"Kneel before Zod!" Not even a "please." Movie villains were rude back in the '80s. And Zod, Ursa, Non and Lex Luthor were no exception. Spanning cities, countries and even planets, Superman 2's bad guys really had our hero putting in the frequent flier miles. But now, decades later, does all the action leave us jetlagged. How many villains is too many? And shouldn't Superman have consulted Lois Lane about giving up ALL of his super powers? This week, Shat the Movies finally kneels before Zod—and listener Chris Lloyd—by reviewing Superman II (1980), the sequel that gave us Terrence Stamp's immortal sneer, Margot Kidder's bathrobe thirst, and Christopher Reeve's blue-eyed beefcake perfection. This episode dives headfirst into the Donner vs. Lester debate, asks how much ejaculate the Fortress of Solitude can handle, and questions Lois Lane's true intentions once Clark Kent drops the glasses—and the powers. Gene and Big D examine everything from Superman's bizarre morality and dubious revenge tactics to the wildly impractical Phantom Zone prison system. They also debate if memory-wiping kisses and cellophane logos deserve a place in superhero canon and why Perry White's newsroom features a threatening photo of Bill Cosby. Whether you're team “Mormon Dad Superman” or “Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex,” this episode delivers laughs, awkward truths, and more than a few inappropriate questions about Kryptonian sex. Plot Summary After banishing Kryptonian rebels General Zod, Ursa, and Non to the Phantom Zone, Superman continues his life as Clark Kent—until a hydrogen bomb explosion in space releases the trio. Landing on Earth, they gain Superman's powers from the yellow sun and quickly set their sights on global domination. Meanwhile, Lois Lane grows suspicious of Clark's identity, prompting him to reveal his secret and sacrifice his powers to be with her. But when Zod and his cronies begin wreaking havoc—and Lex Luthor joins their side—Superman must reclaim his abilities and protect humanity. The final showdown brings the villains to the Fortress of Solitude, where Superman uses brains over brawn to save the world, while also redefining the meaning of romantic boundaries with a memory-erasing kiss. The Not Ready for Prime Time Podcast: The Early Years of SNL
SNL continues its late season run of really fun episodes as Margot Kidder, fresh off her star-making role in the blockbuster "Superman, " hosts this memorable outing. Originally airing on St. Patrick's Day, it leans heavily into all things Irish - including with the musical guests, The Chieftans. This episode is FULL of classic bits that would go on to stand the test of time and appear in Saturday Night Live highlight reels and clip shows for decades to come: “Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute,” “Lois Lane” St. Patrick's Day party, and perhaps the most well-known & quotable “Point/Counterpoint” to ever air. And, through it all, Kidder does a fantastic job whenever called upon. If that wasn't enough there is a new “Franken & Davis Show,” “The Mr. Bill Show” takes an unexpected turn, and Father Guido Sarducci's WU appearance is simply hilarious.---------------------------------Subscribe today!Follow us on social media: X (Twitter): NR4PTProjectBluesky: nr4ptproject.bsky.socialInstagram: nr4ptprojectFacebook: The Not Ready for Prime Time ProjectContact Us: Website: https://www.nr4project.comEmail: nr4ptproject@gmail.com
We bid a tearful farewell to our favorite actor, Gene Hackman, by discussing his hilarious evil Lex Luthor in Superman (1978). Richard Donner started the whole superhero movie idea with this film, but we won't hold that against him. How electric are Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder? How great does this movie look? And why are so many children getting smacked by their mothers? Bonus video: We each give our most contrarian film opinion. Watch it on our Twitter, BlueSky, Instagram, or TikTok. Writer-director Lowell Dean has two movies coming out this year; the first, Dark Match, hits Canadian theatres and lands on Shudder in the US this Friday, January 31st. And to celebrate its arrival, he's here to talk about Richard Donner's 1978 blockbuster Superman: The Movie -- which defined superhero cinema, made instant stars out of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, and got a generation to believe a man can fly. Your genial host Norm Wilner always knew, of course.
On this episode, it's Superman's girl friend (two words): Lois Lane! We talk the origins of everyone's favorite "girl reporter" and kick things off with a 1944 story that sees Lois stepping out on her own sans Superman. Then, we zero in on a 1962 issue of Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane that sees the Daily Planet dynamo be "abandoned" by Superman (and face off against an octopus!) and then discover Superman's secret mermaid family on another planet (yep). We wrap up by discussing Lois on screen, why she doesn't have a more regular solo title and what to expect from Rachel Brosnahan's upcoming portrayal. Ep. 152 What if Lois Lane thought Superman abandoned her & hijinks ensued?from Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane #30 (DC Comics)Find us at https://linktr.ee/dearwatchersIt's more silver age silliness! After our recent Jimmy Olsen issue, we are talking about Superman's main squeeze: Lois Lane. We talk her origins from Siegel & Shuster (and Joanne Carter) and then cover an early story from Don Cameron & Ed Dobrotka that sees Lois talk someone off a ledge (literally). We then cover a zany issue of Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane where Lois faces off against gangsters, an opium smuggler and an octopus without the help of Superman (or so she thinks). Plus, lookout for a truly bizarre Krypton cameo! Later in that issue, Lois discovers Superman has a secret mermaid wife and child on another planet but everything might not be what it appears to be in this story from the pencil of iconic Lois Lane artist Kurt Schaffenberger. We wrap up by sharing our love for Margot Kidder, Elizabeth Tulloch, Teri Hatcher and speculate on how Lois will be portrayed in James Gunn's upcoming film. Ilya Salkind is one of the movie's executive producers that started the superhero genre. Superman: The Movie in 1978 taught audiences that you can believe a man can fly. Salkind's father Alexander acquired the rights to make the movie, and its sequels, Superman II and Superman III. He also exec-produced 1984's Supergirl starring Helen Slater. In this episode, Salkind gives an in-depth conversation about making those movies. He discussed casting Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and the legendary Marlon Brando. He also revealed that there was a draft of a never-made Superman V. Entitled Superman Reborn, this script was performed recently as a stage reading, the audio of which will be featured in next week's podcast episode. Salkind explains how the idea of doing the reading came to be, and how he uncovered the draft of Superman Reborn. Proceeds from the reading went to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. In this final episode of our Merry Bingemas series, we dive deep into the chilling world of “Black Christmas,” the groundbreaking 1974 horror film directed by Bob Clark, and it's 2006 remake, directed by Glen Morgan. Join us as we explore how this flick, featuring standout performances by Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and John Saxon, redefined the slasher genre long before it became mainstream. We discuss the film's innovative storytelling, its haunting atmosphere, and the impact it has had on both horror films and holiday traditions. As a fun little experiment, we compare the original film to the 2006 remake and see what changes were made in modernizing the story and if any of those changes resulted in a better take on the horror classic. What is clear is that “Black X-Mas” 2006 may have received negative reviews upon release and didn't light the box office on fire but it has turned into a cult classic among horror fans who have embraced it for all of its guilty pleasure slasher movie thrills. With a cast that includes Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Oliver Hudson, Lacey Chabert, Kristen Cloke, and Crystal Lowe, the 2006 certainly has its appeal but how does it stack up today and against the 1974 original? Listen in to find out! In addition, this episode marks the return of co-host Jackson Pye full time following a very busy school schedule! Welcome back Jackson! Although this movie might be less talked about than other horror films, Mark and Jeff agree that it's their life mission to spread the good word. Plus, they share stories about meeting Margot Kidder and Andrea Martin!

There is a roughly four-minute sequence in the middle of the first Superman movie (1978) that hits the stratosphere of movie emotion -- and of real-life emotion, too. It is the scene in which Superman takes Lois Lane's hand and flies her leisuredly over Manhattan Island. As the pair glide over the city, Lois Lane (played by Margot Kidder) confides her innermost thoughts to the viewer: she has fallen completely in love with Superman, and that is because he has singled her out as the object of his most personal regard. The sequence is monumental in feeling and memory because it sums up the sequence of romantic loving -- and also the sequence of God's loving of poor us. Because Superman has singled out Lois for his most tender regard, she responds with her entire self. She voices her feelings in this way: "Here I am like a kid out of school. Holding hands with a god. I'm a fool. Will you look at me? Quivering. Like a little girl shivering. You can see right through me. Can you read my mind? Can you picture the things I'm thinking of? Wondering why you are all the wonderful things you are. You can fly! You belong in the sky. You and I could belong to each other. If you need a friend, I'm the one to fly to. If you need to be loved, here I am. Read my mind." What this demonstrates is that love does not start with loving someone, but rather with being loved by someone. I need to be the object of someone's love before I can actually love someone myself. Now capitalize the 's' - S - and the analogy to the Christian Gospel becomes palpable. Instantly palpable! All love begins as One-Way Love: not love from me but love to me. So go now and look up that sequence in Superman from 1978. It's easy to find. And it's the truth of life. And not a truth of life. But the truth of life. LUV U.
Halloween Week = extra episodes! Ryan talks by himself here about the 1979 Amityville Horror...and a little about the other Amityville flicks too...all of which are based on a horrific real-life tragedy that led to a (possibly made-up) haunting in that same house. James Brolin and Margot Kidder play newlyweds who move into a place on Long Island with her 3 kids, then it starts messing with all of them...especially Brolin's mind. Chairs rock on their own, furious flies fill a room, fathers get mad and walls bleed...but will the Lutzes listen to what Rod Steiger heard early on and "GET OUT"? In any case, for God's sake, download the 620th edition of Have You Ever Seen as Stuart Rosenberg's fairly-effective horror show is discussed in fairly humorous detail. Bob Clark made his name directing popular comedies in the '80s like Porky's and A Christmas Story, but his 1974 horror flick about a home-invading murderer has become a classic too. And that's good because Scary Movie Month 2024 is here! The ending of Black Christmas is one of the best in the history of horror...even if it also has MANY flaws. Ryan's one-man show gets into that, but also talks about how this film just might be better than ever. Clark's direction and his use of the camera are dynamite. Leading ladies and sorority sisters Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder are lovely, but this is not a nudity-drenched slash-'em-up. And in the annals of the "final girl", Hussey in Black Christmas is one of the greatest. So hang up the phone, be pro-choice and avoid the unseen killer in your attic as you take in Have You Ever Seen episode #614. It's been a long time since we revisited the classics with Elijah (the last one was show 174 where we talked 60's Bond). It's way past time we returned to that fascinating series and our return is SUPER. Yes, we are talking Superman The Movie (1978) starring the late, great Christopher Reeve. A film so big we also had to bring in the talent that is Niall from Movies In Focus. Not only is Niall a fan of this film, he has previously discussed it with the film's legendary director Richard Donner. So, we have three fans in Niall, Graham and Jeff and newbe Elijah who had never seen it before (but, in an interesting contrast, is a fan of Zack Synder's take on the story). The scene is set for a fascinating discussion on a superhero from yesteryear. Just what will you learn listening to this podcast: - Who else was up for the role of Superman - How Brando jokingly described how he was going to play the role to Richard Donner - Who else was in the frame to write the music which has gone on to be one of John Williams most recognisable scores - Which one of the team thinks Margot Kidder is the ultimate Lois Lane (and how all the others then disagreed) - The original endings for Superman The Movie and Superman II. A podcast which like the film is big, full of fascinating points of view and facts. Even Jeff doesn't go off on one this time! Please let us know what you think – if you enjoy it, we will bring our version of the Justice League (and Graham's super villain) back to discuss Superman II. Until then, see you at The flicks, perhaps standing in line with Elijah for the James Gunn take on the caped crusader. Bye for now.
And I Quote: Building Relationships with Insurance Agents and Small Business Owners
How can Insurance agents make a change? Diving into personal and professional development, using science and Netown's law. Chris emphasizes the crucial cultural components for organizations to overcome plateaus and achieve success. He introduces a framework for mapping effort and energy to legacy, highlighting the importance of self-awareness and humility. Chris concludes by discussing the legacy he hopes to build and the impact he wants to have on others. Takeaways The insurance industry has seen significant technological advancements, and agencies need to adapt to these changes. The term 'legacy' has often been associated with negative connotations, but it is essential to reframe this perception and recognize the success and value of established agencies. The Y2K hype and the Margot Kidder effect serve as reminders of the uncertainties and anxieties that come with technological advancements. AI and The Matrix provide interesting parallels, highlighting the need to embrace change and navigate the evolving landscape of technology. Understanding who you are and being clear about your capabilities, talent, and personal beliefs is critical for success. Cultural components, such as transparency, standardization, and defining behaviors, are important for overcoming plateaus and empowering growth. Creating a framework and taking action are essential for implementing important principles and driving change. To Chri Cline, building a legacy means championing outliers and underdogs, being a mentor, and making a meaningful impact on others. This Christmas in July, we are joined by Adam Richard on a sleigh ride that flies right past the Marvel Cinematic Universe and lands on Margot Kidder's rooftop in 1978. Which is, it turns out, not a bad place to be. It's The Return of Doctor Mysterio. Notes and links Steven Moffat's clear inspiration here is Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie (1978), an astonishingly well-made and entertaining superhero movie starring Christopher Reeve as Clark and the wonderful Margot Kidder as Lois. If you haven't seen it, put your phone down at once and go and find a copy. In Episode 271: Eels with Jazz Hands, we mentioned the previous life of director Ed Bazalgette as a member of 1980s one-hit wonder The Vapors. The one hit in question was called Turning Japanese, and it was a massive thing at the time. The CW superhero shows Peter mentions are collectively called the Arrowverse, which started just a few years before this episode aired, and which included shows like Arrow (2012), The Flash (2014), Supergirl (2015) and Legends of Tomorrow (2016), featuring our very own Arthur Darvill. Ang Lee's unloved film Hulk (2003) liberally used comic book panels to transition between scenes (in a way far more sophisticated than what's attempted in this Doctor Who episode). This brief video will give you the idea. It was Adam's job to watch Series 10 of Doctor Who as a regular on the ABC's Doctor Who aftershow Whovians, which covered Series 10 to 12 and screened a day or so after each episode aired. Brendan mentions the Matt Fleischer animated Superman films from the 1940s, particularly the kinds of villains this version of Superman routinely fought. In the second film, The Mechanical Monsters (1941), Superman confronts a group of giant robots who rob banks and museums and inspire artists and filmmakers for generations. Go and watch it at once. Attractive Coal Hill Academy student Ram loses a leg in the first episode of the Doctor Who spin-off Class, which screened over eight weeks leading up to the start of December 2016. And then no one ever mentioned it or even thought about it ever again. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993) was an insanely popular television show in the 1990s, starring Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane and featuring the incredibly beautiful Dean Cain as Clark. (He's a horrid alt-right nutcase these days, which is a grim warning to all of us, I suppose.) Follow us Nathan is on X as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, and Adam is @adamrichard.
