Midnighters!Proud to welcome Emison to The Midnight Project.I've been keeping an eye on his sound for a while now — raw, hypnotic, and straight from the underground. When we connected on our track, Demonic, it clicked immediately. He's got that rare instinct for tension and groove that drives a dancefloor without letting go.This guest mix is precisely that: no filler, just full-pressure techno—a glimpse into the world of a Sicilian artist who lives and breathes the club.Hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting this collaboration together.More to come.Sebastiaan
John in 1967-1968, a senior at Alamo High School at Alamo, Tennessee. The Deep State Assassination of Martin Luther King Order Book Here The Deep State Assassination of Martin Luther King - Available at Shotwell Publishing Martin Luther King Congressional Cover-Up: The Railroading of James Earl Ray Order Book Here Len inquires how John got interested into the MLK assassination and the set up of James Earl Ray. John lives in Alamo, Tennessee, about 75 miles northeast of Memphis. John was a senior in high school in the spring of 1968 when Martin Luther King was assassinated. After high school, John attended Memphis State University, obtaining his master's degree while living in Memphis. From the start, John had inside information about the situation with James Earl Ray. Harry S. Avery, John's maternal Great Uncle was Commissioner of Corrections at the time in 1969. Prior to this, Mr. Avery had been a government arson investigator for years, started an independent MLK investigation. Mr. Avery had worked with the prosecution on the Jimmy Hoffa Chattanooga jury tampering case. John's curious and inquisitive uncle, Harry Smith Avery died December 18, 1989 at Dandridge, Tennessee. Before Harry died, John had several talks about Harry's investigation into James Earl Ray. Harry was fired by Governor Buford Ellington after two months of his investigating. James entered Brushy Mountain Correction Complex on March 21, 1970. As a reporter for the Oakridger, a daily paper, John was able to interview James Earl Ray Twice in person at Brushy Mountain. You wouldn't hire James Earl Ray to wash your car, he would mess something up. James was not a mastermind. When met Ray, James had already been in prison for 12 years or so, becoming well read with his excess time in prison. Even with all of the reading James had done while in prison, John could still tell he wasn't highly intelligent. Len and John discuss the catalyst that inspired John to start an independent investigation into MLK's murder. John's uncle had overheard a phone conversation while at the Govenor's office, when James Earl Ray was being discussed. This conversation was heard BEFORE James Earl Ray had the opportunity to go to court and make the guilty plea. The person in the office was reassuring the person on the phone that James was going to plead guilty, with no trial. Who was the person on the other end of the phone? The Attorney General? It was definitely a person of authority. While attending to his laundry one day, an interview with Gerald Posner was aired, filled with disinfo, infuriating John. Len created "50 Reasons For 50 Years" video series for the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination for the same reason. Since the early 90's, John knew that it was in his future to write a book regarding what he knew about MLK's murder. The first time John met James at Brushy Mountain in the early 90's, it was a contact visit, where they shook hands. It appeared as if there wasn't a serious amount of observation to their meeting by security, communication was easy. James Earl Ray gave John 2 cassette tapes, that James had had in his jail cell for the past 12 years in his cell. These recordings were of John's uncle, Harry Smith Avery! Avery had been interviewed by Ray's wife! In the recordings, Avery talks about suspicious letters that came in to Ray, including one with a McGill University letterhead! It was clear to John that the assassination was being orchestrated by military intelligence. McGill = MKUltra Ray identified the person who directed him and gave him money. The government denies the existence of Ray having a handler. Who was Raoul? What is Raoul's true identity? Clearly both the Canadian and American governments know. Len and John agree that if you look at any one aspect of this case, it falls apart!

“If you can outsource it and if it's not something that makes you different, you should use a service, because you'll always be asked to do more things than you can build that are differentiated to your organization.” Are you ever frustrated by your software development team getting bogged down doing undifferentiated tasks, leaving less time for innovation? In this episode, Joseph Emison, co-founder and CTO of Branch Insurance and author of “Serverless as a Game Changer,” suggests how serverless technology can streamline the way we do software development. Joe starts by explaining the existing gap between the best and average software development teams, highlighting how teams often prioritize undifferentiated tasks instead of focusing on what truly sets them apart. He challenges the conventional wisdom that code is an asset and explains why it can be a liability. Joe breaks down the definition of serverless technology and delves into the real costs of software development. He addresses a few of the most commonly raised objections to adopting serverless: lock-in, security, and uptime. You'll also learn the Branch development principle and how they successfully implement serverless architecture and gain many benefits from the approach. This episode is a must-listen for any developer or engineering leader looking to gain an understanding of serverless technology and revolutionize the way we approach software development. Ever wondered how a unicorn insurance company like Branch came to be? Join us for an insightful conversation with Joe Emerson, whose vision for simplified, bundled home and auto insurance is reshaping the industry. Joe provides us with a peek behind the curtain of Branch's early days, discussing the importance of strategic team building and harnessing software to enhance the customer experience. He also shares his philosophy on focusing on unique offerings and buying everything else that doesn't differentiate the company, a tactic that distinctly positions Branch in the market.Shifting gears, we tackle the evolution of software development, likening it to constructing intricate designs from Lego blocks. I reflect on the role of reliable services and components in building efficient products, drawing from a well of both veteran insights and innovative strategies. We also dissect the importance of aligning technology updates with a company's mission, plus the challenges of overly complex engineering that can lead companies astray from their core objectives. These anecdotes stem from my personal consulting adventures, where I've witnessed the transformative power of maintaining simplicity and clarity in tech development. The episode wraps with a vibrant discussion about why Columbus, Ohio, is the new frontier for burgeoning businesses. We unpack the strategic advantages of this growing metro area, from affordable housing and good public schools to the explosion of the startup scene fueled by local universities like Ohio State. Through the lens of Branch's experience, we share invaluable advice for any entrepreneur eyeing Columbus's potential, and the practical considerations that come with scaling a business state by state. As we unwrap the city's magnetic appeal, we show why central Ohio's business environment just might be the springboard needed for your next big venture.
It's been a long time coming. It's been a long time (It's Ellie and Leigh!). It's been a long time coming (It's fearless). It's been a long time coming (big reputation)...It's been a long time coming (And they said, Speak Now). It's been a long time coming. (We are Lez Hang Out and we were born in 2017!) It's been a long time coming (Loving her was Red). It's been a long time (Meet me at Midnight). It's been a long time coming (Lover). That's right, gays! Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are back, baby with Season 7 of the little lesbian podcast that could! Thank you so much to everyone who has been listening whether you started the journey with us 6 years ago or are brand new to the pod. We are so excited to have you here! An overview of what's been going on in queer news and media would be too depressing, so we are doing something a little different this time and reminiscing about the gay old days. If you are a gay of a certain age like us, you probably had a very different high school experience than what is currently depicted in tv shows and movies. Many millennials and older gays did not get to have quintessential high school experiences like playing Seven Minutes in Heaven or bringing a date of their desired gender to the Prom. When we watch shows and movies like Hulu's Crush, what stands out the most is just seeing the characters be openly queer without it having to be a whole thing. We can't even imagine playing Spin the Bottle and not having to first have an intense discussion about what to do if it were to land on someone of the same gender. While we are sure it's still not easy to come out and be openly queer (especially depending on where you live), it gives us hope to see that at least within the realm of queer media representation, things have improved for the youth. They are living their best gay teenage years and we love to see it! Can you even imagine how much better life would have been if the gay representation you had as a teenager was something like Crush instead of the biphobic love triangle in South of Nowhere, the hypersexualized relationships in The L Word or the barrage of Bury Your Gays attacks? Even more recent teen media like the OG Pretty Little Liars (which we refuse to believe was over a decade ago) gave full on softcore p0rn love scenes to the heterosexual couples and faded to black on Emison. It's only very recently that the media has finally stopped cutting away every time a gay couple does anything even remotely sexual. Although a lot has changed (for the better!) about queer representation, there are still some things that are largely the same – namely the tropes. These tropes exist for a reason and we do love certain ones, but others really deserve to be left in the past. We would be very happy to never watch another ‘lesbian student falls for her highkey predatory teacher' love story for the rest of our lives. Instead, we want to see more tropes spun on their heads! Give us more of the too cool for school gay kid who is the one doing the bullying or show us a teenage lesbian hitting on a straight friend without it absolutely ruining her entire life. A Veteran of the Marine Corps, Josh Emison is another Vet from a military family. With siblings in the armed forces and a Navy Veteran for a father, Josh grew up all over the world. Virginia in the US, England, Puerto Rico…well, you get the idea. Josh new early on he wanted to have a military career, and his father's advice was, not surprisingly, go to the Naval Academy. Not really knowing what to expect, Josh applied and was accepted and met a bunch of terrific Marine officers. That directed him to the Marine Corps where he spent five years as an infantry officer. He had two non-combat deployments. First to Spain where he got to work with the Spanish military, then to Okinawa, where he trained with the Korean Marines. In Okinawa, he also got to do a lot of scuba diving, so not all work! He then went to Jordan for 13 months working at the embassy in charge of administration and logistics. Josh worked with the Jordanian military, but also got to interact with a lot of the civilians. The Jordanian culture and the people really appealed to Josh and remains one of his fond memories. The biggest takeaway from all that travel? At the basic level, all people are the same. Yes, we may dress differently and eat different foods, but we are all going through the human experience together. And if you can embody that philosophy, you can be comfortable almost anywhere. As rich as his Marine experience was, Josh was wanting to do other things besides a military career. One downside to the Marines in Josh's experience was learning. He was around a lot of smart Marines, but found the schools and the true learning was lacking and felt he would eventually be held back from his true potential. Teach For America caught Josh's attention. Interestingly enough, Josh also had a fascination with Jackie Chan Kung Fu movies, so he tied the two together: Get an assignment in China teaching so he in turn could learn Mandarin and Kung Fu, and it worked. Always an independent thinker, he decided while in China he wanted to start a business. Back in the States, he was set to go back to China when the COVID lockdown began. Scrambling for money, Josh sold his car and somehow made it back to his parent's house and asked to crash for a time. Not knowing what kind of business to start, he eventually landed as a franchise consultant, which meant if nobody bought a franchise, he did get paid. That lasted for the first nine months since few people wanted to start a franchise during lockdown, but it gave Josh a chance to read volumes of business books and study what franchises were available and what made them interesting. Qualifying franchisees made Josh realize that the prime audience was accredited investors, those with sufficient net worth. He also was learning about block chain at the time and wondering how this world-changing technology could work. So how could he help the non-accredited investor world participate in building wealth? Josh came up with the idea to used blockchain to offer fractional real estate ownership and own real estate debt. This gave high, stable returns to “regular” people, and that was the beginning of Sans Bank. For as little as $100, many people can participate in real estate investments. This is no longer tainted by boards and by people who are going to demand you make a profit at the expense of society. That's what the blockchain has to offer." - Josh Emison 8:29 - "The problem that I want to solve is an education problem. It's a problem with the belief and the attitude of the people with the education system and maybe on a larger scale." - Josh Emison 18:08 - "A lot of people, when they think about the blockchain, they just think about Bitcoin. And that's not it. But what it is, it's like this Excel spreadsheet where you can't delete things, you can only add to it." - Josh Emison 30:41- "The blockchain is just the rails that allow us to do the service without banks, without transfer agents, and without all these other things and to organize information a lot more efficiently." - Josh Emison 1:01:54 - "I want to support anyone who's doing it (blockchain) because you are creating a world where it's still based on a free market economy, but it's done in a way that is benefitting all the people that live in it, not just the select few." - Josh Emison 1:05:36 - "When somebody is promising you that this (digital coins) token's going to be worth more in the future than it is, that's impossible. Nobody knows what it's going to be like in the future. So if someone's promising you that, you probably shouldn't trust them." - Josh Emison Engage with Joshua EmisonLinkedInSANSBANKTwitterEmail Connect with Expert(ish) Podcast Host JAY JOHNSONCall (858) 925- 4536WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagram Listen to more episodes of the Expert(ish) PodcastiTunesSpotify

Joe Emison is a technology entrepreneur and bold believer in people. He is the co-founder and CTO for Branch (www.ourbranch.com) We swap stories and lessons we've learned. You're going to love him. Please support our sponsors: http://www.saasalerts.com and http://www.csoadvisors.com.
Steve Lekas, Co-Founder and CEO, Branch Insurance A 20-year insurance veteran, Steve began his career at Allstate, followed by Esurance, where he built the first U.S. online home insurance business. Prior to Branch Insurance, Steve was President of the Insurance Services Office's personal lines business for Verisk Analytics. Steve co-founded Branch in 2017 to make insurance less expensive and reintroduce insurance to society as a communal good. Branch launched in 2019 and is expanding nationally. Joe Emison, Co-Founder and CTO, Branch Insurance Prior to Branch, Joe founded BuildFax (acquired by DMGT), Spaceful (acquired by Xceligent), BluePrince (acquired by Harris Computer), and EphPod (acquired by Wind Solutions). Joe graduated with degrees in English and Mathematics from Williams College and has a law degree from Yale Law School. Highlights from the Show You need a reason to be valuable to consumers in a different way Branch's mission is to make insurance less expensive so more people can be insured In their early consumer research, Joe asked people what they would do if they had a magic wand relative to their insurance, and roughly 90% said they'd make it cheaper Insurance is based on exclusions through underwriting that result in tens of millions of drivers (for example) going uninsured and more being under-insured Branch started a 501(c)(3) called SafetyNest that takes a small portion of the premiums paid and sets them aside to be able to make grants to those who suffered a loss and can't cover the cost of making them whole again, which could be because of being under-insured or uninsured, or paying the premiums of those in need to ensure they stay covered The intention is to take the national uninsured percentage from 15% to 2% It applies to Branch customers and non-customers, so it is genuinely aiming to help the larger problem in the country With the "Build vs. Buy" debate, Joe believes you should try not to build anything, and code is a liability, not an asset The mission has helped keep them focused on efficiency, which means they build fewer things themselves, located in a city (Columbus) that is lower cost than where many startups are, and keeping the team as small as possible to help keep their costs down This leads to really empowering their staff to do what they need to do in serving their customers, which has lead to happier staff and happier customers, with a Google rating of 4.9 stars, which is outrageously high for insurance This episode is brought to you by Medallia (Medallia.com), and the book series, "The Future of Insurance: From Disruption to Evolution" by Bryan Falchuk (future-of-insurance.com). In this episode, retired West Tennessee lawyer Jim Emison discusses his quest for justice for the brutal murder of Elbert Williams, a founding member of the NAACP in Haywood County. In June 1940, two officers from the Brownsville, Tennessee Police Department took Elbert Williams to jail for questioning. His body was later found floating in the Hatchie River making him one of the earliest members of the NAACP murdered for his civil rights work. While his death was ruled a homicide, no one was ever prosecuted. After learning about the case, Jim Emison began what has become an all-encompassing crusade to ensure Williams' sacrifice is remembered and any responsible parties still living are brought to justice.
In this episode, we’re brandishing our makeshift weapons with Love ShAck, Baby. We talk the Liars’ many secrets stacking up like a game of Jenga, Spencer and her dramatic cape calling out Peter’s hypocrisy, Emison getting one of their best and most complex scenes of the series, Prezria’s compelling Mr. and Mrs. Smith dynamic, the apocalyptic conditions of the DiLaurentis properties, and how Hanna’s big hookup reveal might have hit harder (shocker: we think it should have been queer). On this episode, Jeremy chats with Joe Emison about why you should think buying before building, how choosing for organization-wide maintainability makes those decisions easier, why developing trust with stakeholders is so important, and the process that Branch Insurance uses to build and deliver software.
Brett Emison of Langdon and Emison is a nationally known trial attorney who is heavily involved in both the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the American Association of Justice. In fact, Brett just finished a term as President of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys (“MATA”) during one of the more challenging and unique years any President has faced. Beyond his time in the Missouri Capitol as President of MATA, Brett has spent countless hours meeting with National, State, and local legislators advocating for the rights of his clients and tort victims across the State. As “tort reform” measures continue to sweep the country, Brett talks about how developing relationships with state and local legislators play a crucial role in putting a face and name to the trial bar and to the importance of ensuring our clients’ 7th Amendment rights are protected. This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Kent Emison of Langdon & Emison (https://www.langdonemison.com/) and Hoyt Tessener of James Scott Farrin (https://www.farrin.com/). Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review Episode Details: Missouri personal injury lawyer Kent Emison of Langdon & Emison and North Carolina trial lawyer Hoyt Tessener of James Scott Farrin share how they secured justice for an 11-year-old boy who was paralyzed in a car crash due to an inadequate seat belt design. Positioned in the rear center seat of his father's 1999 Ford Escort, Che-Val Batts' two-point lap belt jackknifed him when another car suddenly pulled out in front of the Escort, leaving Che-Val with damage to his internal organs and spinal cord, rendering him a paraplegic. The other passengers, who were restrained by three-point seat belts, sustained significantly less severe injuries. Despite knowing the higher safety rating of three-point seatbelts and including these more effective restraints in other models, Ford continued to manufacture Escorts with a rear center seat two-point seat belt, violating the company's own safety policies. The defense's attempts to blame Che-Val's injuries on his own misplacement of the lap belt swayed some Nash County, North Carolina jurors and resulted in a hung jury. The case was ultimately settled for $31 million, with details of the settlement remaining confidential.
