We can't really quote any of Busta Rhymes' iconic HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION lines because they could get this blurb censored. But trust us, they are just one of the many reasons to celebrate Michael Myers' foray into reality TV. Critics, boring as they can be, slapped a 10% Tomatometer score on the movie, not that any true fan cares. Is HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION the worst entry in the franchise? Or is it merely the most inconsequential? Is it easier for a casual fan to enjoy its silly attempt to introduce Michael Myers to the wonders of the internet? And does Busta Rhymes' performance make it all worth it anyway? Horror fans come in all shapes and screams—there's the trivia-obsessed purist who thinks anything post-1980 is trash, the franchise defender who swears Halloween: Resurrection “isn't that bad,” and the A24 devotee who insists horror isn't real unless it's “elevated.” In this episode, we dive into the most iconic (and sometimes insufferable) horror movie fan tropes, from the gorehounds to the “I liked it before it was cool” crowd. Are we calling ourselves out? Probably.
We already name-dropped Daredevil and Hitchcock in the Contrarians Corner write-up, so let's reference our friend Peter Bogdanovich in Real Talk, because… wouldn't he had loved this elevator pitch? But what happens when director Sriram Raghavan takes ANDHADHUN in a different direction? Do we have an overload of reversals here? What's with the ending? Michael Myers is so good at oxygenating his blood! Mandy's tongue is too big for her mouth. Kam did a boo-boo. Joel McHale is not Patrick Dempsey. Why is The Shape wearing makeup on his mask? RIP crunchy hair gelled hair. And, we review a movie as well. www.franchisefrightspodcast.com
In this episode of The Whole Damn Enchilada, you dive into a double-feature review of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection, tackling two films that took the Michael Myers saga in very different directions. The discussion kicks off with Halloween H20, exploring how it brought back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in a high-stakes showdown with Michael after two decades, and how the late '90s horror aesthetic and themes of trauma added depth to the series. You might touch on the Scream-inspired influences and the return to a more grounded approach compared to the supernatural elements of previous sequels. As you shift to Halloween: Resurrection, the tone of the episode might become more critical. There's likely a conversation on the choice to kill off Laurie Strode early on, the bizarre direction of a reality-TV setup, and Busta Rhymes' memorable one-liners and martial arts showdown with Michael. You'll dive into fan reactions to the film, perhaps talking about how Resurrection's tone and style made it polarizing.

Welcome to Guilty Pleasures, where we dive headfirst into the cinematic abyss to uncover the hidden joys of films that are often maligned. This episode is a special treat as we celebrate Stephanie's birthday month with a double feature of epic proportions. Prepare yourself for a slasher showdown as we pit two infamous entries from horror's heavyweight franchises against each other: Halloween: Resurrection and Jason X. In part one, we discuss Halloween: Resurrection, serving up a blend of early 2000s reality TV culture and slasher tropes, featuring the unforgettable showdown between Busta Rhymes and Michael Myers. In part two, we'll tackle Jason X — a film the catapults the iconic killer into the far reaches of space for a sci-fi horror spectacle that's out of this world. Join us as we dissect the absurdity, the camp, and the unexpected charm of these films. Are they misunderstood masterpieces or just cinematic missteps? From the curious decisions that lead to Laurie's controversial fate to the space-age antics of Jason Voorhees, we leave no stone unturned in our quest to crown the ultimate guilty pleasure. Will Stephanie's picks win over her skeptical co-hosts, or will they remain unconvinced? Welcome to Guilty Pleasures, where we unabashedly dive into the most delightfully absurd corners of cinema. This week, we're taking a wild ride into the cosmos with Jason X, the tenth installment of the Friday the 13th franchise, where Jason Voorhees trades Crystal Lake for the vastness of space. Yes, you heard it right—Jason is in space, and it's as ludicrous as it sounds. Join us as we dissect this cinematic oddity that catapults the iconic silent slasher into the year 2455 aboard a spaceship. In this episode, we explore the film's self-aware humor, its outrageous premise, and the sheer entertainment value it offers despite—or perhaps because of—its nonsensical plot and one-dimensional characters. We debate whether Jason X is a misunderstood masterpiece or simply a guilty pleasure that delivers a laugh-out-loud experience for horror fans. Our hosts are divided, with some reveling in the film's campy charm and others questioning its very existence. From virtual reality simulations gone awry to the transformation of Jason into the formidable Uber Jason, we leave no stone unturned in our quest to understand this bizarre entry in the Friday the 13th saga. We also discuss how well it fares against October's other Guilty Pleasure pick: Halloween Resurrection. So, grab your popcorn and join us for a journey into the absurd as we decide if Jason X deserves a place in the pantheon of guilty pleasures or if it should be jettisoned into the void of space. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guilty-pleasures-film/support
It's Halloween time again! Put on your sexy Star Trek costume and make sure you're fully in control of your faculties because you might not be entirely you in there! This time, our Casual Explorers decided to explore some of the many psychic and or energy beings who can just pop inside your flesh and blood as easy as a pair of boots. In Enterprise's ‘Observer Effect,' Trip and Hoshi get sick off Klingon rubbish while Travis and Reed get possessed by one very eager energy being and one who is basically #quietquitting, in Deep Space Nine's ‘The Assignment,' O'Brien's life is once more a living hell when his wife gets taken over by the Pah'Wraiths and Rom struggles to make friends at work and finally, we round it off with our main event, Dr. Beverly Crusher's adventures with sex-ghosts who live in candles ‘Sub Rosa' and Charlie and Miles find themselves watching one of Star Trek's worst-ranked episodes and ask the most important question, 'Do the Scottish know there's a Scotland in Space?' Honestly, it's much more fun to watch Troi get heavily involved in talking about Crusher's sex dreams than it ever is to have to engage in discussions on the ethics of terrorism as we did last episode. If you or anyone else is showing signs of possession, please don't come to us for help, Google it. Or ask us on Ko-Fi.Episodes Discussed: Observer Effect (12:25), The Assignment (42:12) and Sub Rosa (01:13:40)SHOW NOTES: The FULL English Breakfast, Miles forgot to do his Crypt-Keeper Schtick this Halloween, he also has opinions on the Halloween series of films, the Leprechaun films, Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, Jailhouse Rock's surprising appearance on the charts and a quick diversion into British music magazine the NME, Let Me Love You is possibly the WORST song we've had to listen to for the show (you win this round, Sheeran!) Despite it's female audience Star Trek always has a Male Gaze on the Cosmos, SF complaining about romance and sexuality, the SCOTTISH PLANET, the fact there's a church leads us to wonder if the Abrahamic Religions are still practised and worshipped in the often-secular Star Trek, consent in ‘Sub Rosa' comparing to consent in ‘Plato's Stepchildren,'PEDANTS CORNER: It's Busta Rhymes who kung-fu'd Michael Myers in Halloween Resurrection, The Defiant actually came first with Deep Space Nine's Season 3 in 1994 Babylon 5 introduced the White Star in Season 3 in 1995. HALLOWEEN: THE NIGHT OF THE BOOGEYMAN - An attempt to edit John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II into one movie, BUT with around a 90 minute running time common for many movies and slasher films of the 80s. JAW II: THE AMITY HORROR - An edit that attempts to bring out the more slasher-esque elements of JAWS II; the shark is a lot like Jason Voorhees in JAWS II with the setting being the ocean rather than the woods JAWS III: MONSTER - An ambitious edit of JAW III that amps up the B-movie disaster movie element of JAWS III and, amazingly, adds in a new monster to fight Jaws in the finale: Jaws vs. Octopus! FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: JASON'S LEGACY - An edit of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V that, through color regrading and trimming of scenes, brings the movie more in line with Joseph Zito's much beloved entry in the cult franchise, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER. HALLOWEEN 5: THE SHAPE OF RAGE and HALLOWEEN HOMECOMING - Two fanfix fanedits that attempt to address the problems of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS and HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION to make both movies a better viewing experience for fans of the Michael Myers saga! We also discuss the wild JAWS: THE SHARKSPLOITATION edit that faneditor TheManBehindTheMask did (it's literally a grindhouse version of Jaws with an insane twist at the end), David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy, editing Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II, the character of Tina in Halloween 5, color regrading and color correction in fanedits, the opening credits of HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS, Halloween's Thorn trilogy and similarties with the Druid cult storyline in HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, the role of pacing in edits, and much, much more!

Trick or treat motherf**ker! After the triumphant return of Jamie Lee Curtis and the cathartic killing of Michael Myers in 1998's H20, there was nowhere to go but down. Unfortunately, Rick Rosenthal's 2002 follow-up failed to meet even the lowest of fan expectations with an ignominious death for Laurie Stride, a terrible Blair Witch inspired premise and a karate kicking Bustah Rhymes. Join Sebastian and the Mighty Peculiar podcast's Matt Anderson as they investigate this rotten pumpkin of a sequel.

As part of our 3rd Summer Drive-In Special, we are watching two sequels that are vastly different than their predecessors. Resurrection is a direct sequel of H20 for 15 minutes and then goes so far from the Halloween story that it has gained a copious amount of hatred. Unhappy Campers has its fans, but it also has a lot of hate for being a complete 180 from the first Sleepaway Camp. Dumping the moody and creepy vibe of the first movie for over-the-top, well, CAMP. And we couldn't be more excited.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
