As a sophomore he suffered a serious injury to his spleen during a baseball game. He was airlifted to the hospital and was out of action for 3 months. Barron is now Covid free and back coaching his team in practice and they will play their first game in a month next week to open sectionals. The last few weeks have been extremely difficult for Barron. Covid-19 forced him into the hospital and he said he was praying a lot to get through. South Bend native Danny Pinter is expected to hear his name called in this week's NFL Draft, which will takes place Thursday through Saturday. Pinter only had one scholarship offer coming out of of Adams High School and has certainly made the most of it. He even transitioned from tight end to offensive line and put on 50 pounds towards the end of his career to be in position to play at the next level. He says his faith, family and time at St. Joe grade school, Adams and Ball State have all led him to this moment. He will watch the draft at his parents' home in South Bend this weekend. Beating your arch-rival twice in one season is not easy. After losing in overtime in the regular season meeting to St. Joe, the Marian girls basketball team was determined to win the rematch in the sectional semifinals. This week, Redeemer Radio 95.7FM Sports Director Angelo Di Carlo spoke with Marian boys basketball coach Robb Berger and senior standout Jerry Bracey about Marian's outstanding season being cut short because of the coronavirus. Marian exceeded expectations en route to winning a sectional championship and many believed they could make a run to the state finals but they were never given the chance because of the need to cancel the state tournament. I’ve loved sports since before I can remember. When I was 4-years-old, I was copying the standings from the newspaper, writing them down and running up the stairs waking up my brother and reading off the standings to him. It’s been something I’ve been incredibly passionate about. March Madness is my favorite time of the year. I love the NCAA Tournament and I love the high school basketball tournament. These weeks are incredible. And now---the coronavirus is taking that all away. I’m not here to debate whether it is the right decision or not. I leave that to the experts to decide. I’m just here to say that for the high school seniors who won’t get the same experience their peers of years ago received, it really stinks for them. The most important thing is the safety of everyone—absolutely-- but that doesn’t mean us sports fans can’t be sad over everything that has happened. I’m sad and I had to talk about it. Thankfully the IHSAA regionals will continue. Fans won’t be in the stands but the basketball playoffs will get to play the games.
