Essa imagem quase cinematográfica é um bom convite para entrar no mundo de Jean Sibelius. Hoje mergulhamos na Sinfonia nº 2, uma obra que muitos chamam de “a sinfonia da independência finlandesa”, ainda que o próprio compositor desse risada dessa classificação mais tarde. O curioso é que cada audição parece revelar uma história secreta escondida nas cordas e nos metais.Sibelius compôs a Segunda em 1901 e 1902, numa época em que a Finlândia vivia tensões políticas fortes sob domínio do Império Russo. A verdade é que o compositor não escreveu a obra como manifesto político. Ele estava descansando na Itália, cercado de sol, paisagens mediterrâneas e cadernos rabiscados com esboços. Ainda assim, o público finlandês escutou algo profundo ali: um espírito de resistência, um sentimento de afirmação nacional.Com o passar do tempo, a própria história se encarregou de fundir obra e país.
