PH senior students bring the sermon this week on the PH podcast, sharing encouragement and God's Word with the next generation.
Goooooood morning, Woodland!
Lead Offs For 9 Year Olds Are Insane and I Will Die on This HillIn this episode of "the world's most dangerous youth baseball podcast," host Deven Morgan takes listener questions and goes deep on the nuts and bolts of coaching young players — how to develop first-year kid pitch arms without overusing your two best strike-throwers, why ranking 7-year-olds is absurd, when leadoffs and holding runners should actually be introduced (not before 12), how to use Blast sensor metrics like bat speed and attack angle with youth hitters, and how to structure an 8–12 week competition on-ramp for a national team. The throughline: simple external cues, ball-flight-driven intentions, and equitable opportunity beat the professionalized, performance-first approach that's driving kids out of the game by ten. The episode closes with an emotional reflection on coaching Max Rojas for 11 years — from a seven-year-old to an 18-year-old signing with Tacoma CC — and an amazing Senior night experience. CCF Seniors share their wisdom.
This week, Alyssa and Nadia skip having a guest and instead share a personal life update. There's no set topic — just an honest check-in on how they're doing. It turns into one of their most open and candid episodes.Alyssa revisits her Hume Scale results by getting a DEXA scan, the gold standard for body composition. The scan showed slightly better results, suggesting the scale is fairly accurate. More than the data, she reflects on how her mindset has changed — getting the same “B” result as in 2018, but this time feeling more motivated to improve. Her results showed weight gain since 2018, but mostly from muscle, not fat. Bone density dropped slightly and visceral fat increased a bit, but the muscle gain surprised her. It highlights how our perception of our bodies doesn't always match reality.Nadia shares her update, balancing co-op work, gymnastics, and trying to eat healthier. She tested her nutrition with a carotenoid scan and scored average, but wants to improve. Alyssa also reveals they hired a private chef, leading to a funny but practical discussion about cost, food waste, and meal prep. The conversation shifts as Nadia talks about her MCAT dilemma. She's behind on studying and deciding whether to take it. Alyssa emphasizes that whatever she chooses, she needs to stay intentional with her prep.Beyond the MCAT, Nadia is also navigating big life decisions — career plans, where to live, and friendships changing after graduation. Alyssa reassures her that this uncertainty is normal and that this stage of life, though messy, often becomes one of the most meaningful.TakeawaysOur perception of our own health and fitness doesn't always match the data — and that gap is worth paying attention toThe same result can land completely differently depending on where you are in life and what you've been told to care aboutSocial media has meaningfully shifted how women think about their bodies, health, and fitness — especially for women in their fortiesMuscle gain can happen without dedicated weight training, and sometimes the body surprises youPractical barriers to eating vegetables are real — variety, prep time, and portion size all get in the way for small householdsThe private chef math is more defensible than it sounds when you factor in food waste, time, and the cost of eating outPostponing a high-stakes test isn't just a scheduling question — it changes your entire relationship to studying for itMedical school applications mean every MCAT score is visible, so the decision of when to sit for it carries real weightThe 22 to 27 window is one of the most uncertain periods of adult life — and almost everybody gets through itHaving friends scatter after college is a real emotional transition, not just a logistical oneA carotenoid meter is apparently a thing that exists and your workplace might have oneChapters0:11–1:24 — No Agenda, Just Life: What This Episode Is and Why1:24–4:28 — The DEXA Scan Follow-Up: How Accurate Was the Hume Scale?4:28–7:05 — The Same Grade, Eight Years Apart: What Changed and What Didn't7:05–11:15 — The Discourse Around Women's Health: Jane Fonda, Dr. Stacy Sims, and What's Different Now11:15–12:05 — Nadia on Exercise Post-Gymnastics: The Gym That Never Quite Happens12:05–15:50 — The Private Chef Reveal: Nadia's Reaction and the Actual Math15:50–19:30 — Vegetables, Carotenoid Meters, and Eating Like an Adult19:30–24:00 — Senior Season: Nationals, Senior Night, Grad Photos, and the Transition Feeling24:00–29:05 — The MCAT Decision: July, September, or January — and What's Really Holding It Back29:05–31:33 — Jobs, Leases, Moving, and What 22 to 27 Feels Like from the Other Side650.701.7686 (o)650.332.2739 (f)510.673.8712 (m)Sports & Dance Rehab | Pilates | Group ClassesOn the Move Physical Therapy501-D Old County Rd. North Carolina completed an 18-0 home slate on Tuesday night with a 67-63 win over Clemson on Senior Night. While Seth Trimble struggled in his last game in the Smith Center, his other teammates stepped up to provide enough for the Tar Heels to get by the Tigers and set themselves in good position for a double-bye in next week's ACC Tournament. Luka Bogavac banged in six three-pointers on his way to 20 points and Jarin Stevenson grabbed a career high ten rebounds in the winning effort. Inside Carolina's Sherrell McMillan and Tommy Ashley discuss the win and the play of multiple Heels including Derek Dixon and Henri Veesaar. McMillan highlights the group effort aspect of Hubert Davis's team in the absence of Caleb Wilson and how game to game, a different player rises up to provide enough firepower for winning basketball. McMillan and Ashley close the show taking an early look at Saturday's Carolina/Duke matchup and discuss what UNC will need to do to have a chance to take down the Devils in Durham. **Call to Action:** **Subscribe:** Follow 'Inside Carolina' wherever you get your podcasts to never miss an episode **Review:** Leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify to help us reach more Tar Heel fans **Visit:** Explore http://www.InsideCarolina.com for breaking news, recruiting updates, and expert commentary on all things UNC sports. The episode opens with a lighthearted conversation about Valentine's Day plans before shifting to the Super Bowl, which, despite best efforts, felt underwhelming. The commercials did not deliver either, but the halftime show definitely sparked discussion. With J. Cole releasing his long-anticipated retirement album The Fall Off, there was no avoiding a conversation about what this moment means in hip-hop. The discussion moves to comedy, including a review of Katt Williams' latest special, and a reflection on being grateful that 2026 is not starting as turbulent as it has for Corey Holcomb. A recent trip to San Diego for a work-related symposium leads into a meaningful moment of getting home just in time to see a son off for Senior Night. There is also a breakdown of the Keystone leadership course, including a standout quote that left a lasting impression. Current events take center stage. The USS Truxtun was involved in a collision with a USNS supply ship during a replenishment-at-sea, raising concerns not only about the incident itself but also about individuals recording and posting the event. A recent arrest of a Naval Officer in uniform for lewd conduct prompts a broader discussion about accountability and representation. Questions are raised about the HPO program and what it actually entails, while a social media post about a mother PCSing sparks dialogue about perspective and sacrifice. The CNO's recent interview with Military Times is examined, followed by a response to a listener's question about finding the motivation to reenlist. The conversation turns reflective. What should a Sailor understand before becoming a Chief? How important is it to truly know the details of your people's family lives? Should non-Chiefs ever see the contents of a charge book? Is it wrong to withhold feedback on a weak package? Practical leadership topics round out the episode, including Career Development Board do's and don'ts, before closing with a spirited Do Better segment. One critique about physical fitness standards and incentives sparks debate. These and more topics are covered in this episode. https://teachhoops.com/ Senior Night is a high-stakes emotional event that requires the same level of strategic preparation as a conference championship game. For parents, this night represents the culmination of years of early-morning carpools, travel tournaments, and emotional investment in their child's athletic journey. As a coach, your goal is to manage the logistics so flawlessly that the families can focus entirely on the celebration. Start by distributing a clear timeline and "Day-of" protocol at least two weeks in advance. This should include exactly where parents need to meet, the order of the ceremony, and instructions for photos. By removing the guesswork, you reduce "event anxiety" and ensure the focus remains on honoring the seniors' dedication to the program. Effective Senior Night management also involves balancing the emotional ceremony with the competitive demands of the game. It is a common "Senior Night Trap" for the team to come out flat or overly emotional after a long pre-game presentation. To combat this, keep the on-court ceremony concise and impactful. Use "Senior Profiles"—short, pre-written bios read over the PA system—that highlight the player's favorite memories and future plans. This provides a personal touch without dragging out the timeline. Coaches should also have a clear plan for the starting lineup; while it is traditional to start all seniors, communicate this with your underclassmen early in the week to maintain team chemistry and ensure everyone is locked into the game plan once the ball is tipped. Finally, Senior Night is the ultimate opportunity to strengthen your long-term relationship with the parents and the community. A small, thoughtful gesture—like a handwritten note to the parents thanking them for their support or a framed photo of the player—goes further than any expensive gift. This is the moment to reinforce your program's "Culture of Gratitude." After the game, regardless of the outcome, take a moment to personally thank the senior families for their "tenure" in your program. By treating Senior Night as a professional, heart-centered production, you turn a simple game into a lifelong memory, proving that your program values the people just as much as the points on the scoreboard.
