Series: PsalmsService: Sun PMType: SermonSpeaker: Ryan BoyerPs. 69: I’m drowningPsalm 69 is laid out in alternating sections of pleas (requests to God) and problems (reasons for the requests).v. 1a - Plea: “Save me, O God!”This one is pretty straightforward. It’s the main request of the psalm.vv. 1b-4 - Problem: I’m drowning! This section can be broken down into three subsections. The first is the metaphor of drowning (v. 1b-2). You can also see this picture in versus 14, 15, and 20. Verse 20 is especially helpful because it describes the situation as despair. The next section is asking where God is in all of this despite the authors…

Series: PsalmsService: Sun PMType: SermonSpeaker: Ryan BoyerPsalms 14 and 53 are nearly identical. There are a few differences. Both refer to God seven times, but Ps. 14 uses the divine name, Yahweh, four of those seven times, where Ps. 53 uses Elohim for all of them. Psalm 14:3 says “all turned aside” where Ps. 53:3 says “all fallen away.” Most notably, most of Ps. 14:5-6 is different Ps. 53:5 and they each have their own emphasis. Despite their differences, I’m going to treat them together as a single message from God.As for why two nearly identical psalms are included, I don’t know, but here’s a guess.…

Series: PsalmsService: Sun PMType: SermonSpeaker: Ryan BoyerPsalm 46 is ultimately an encouragement to God’s people to not fear. It is divided into three sections: - vv. 1-3 - do not fear what may be- vv. 4-7 - do not fear because of what is- vv. 8-11 - do not fear because of what will bePsalm 46:1-3 begins with the basis for courage and confidence. I’m going to describe this basis as two themes that run throughout the psalm, which I will summarize at the end. Those themes are God as refuge, strength, help, and protection, and God as present. Verse 1 in my ESV says God is,…

Series: PsalmsService: Sun PMType: SermonSpeaker: Ryan BoyerPsalm 40 is both a song of praise for past salvation (vv. 1-10), and a plea for help (vv. 11-17), but neither of these is the main purpose of this psalm. (This is one reason why it may not be the best idea to hyper-focus on trying to label the category of each psalm.) The main purpose of this song is to inform the readers that God desires public praise, and it is demonstration of how to do it.Psalm 40:1-5 is an overview of the entire message.v. 1a - I waited patiently. The Hebrew here says, “Waiting I waited…”, which,…

Series: PsalmsService: Sun PMType: SermonSpeaker: Ryan BoyerSpeaker - Ryan BoyerDive into Psalm 32, a powerful exploration of guilt, confession, and God’s forgiveness. This psalm reveals the weight of unconfessed sin and the incredible relief of coming clean before God. In this lesson, we break it down: Verses 1-2: The blessings of forgiveness—rebellion lifted, sins covered, and iniquity not held against us. How? Jesus carried the load, erased the debt, and paid the price (1 Peter 2:24, Colossians 2:14, Isaiah 53:6). Verses 3-4: The torture of guilt—wearing, weighty, and withering. You can’t outrun your conscience! Verse 5: The solution—confession. When we stop covering our sin, God covers…
