What is "Camp"? In 1964, literary critic Susan Sontag investigated this question in her culture-defining essay "Notes on Camp". We discuss how the concept of Camp applies to Eurovision, other forms of pop culture, and our day-to-day lives.

“Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?” That question from Luke 6 is uncomfortable on purpose, and we sit with it all the way to the end. We talk about the gap that can open up between religious words and real discipleship, and why Jesus refuses to let us settle for a faith that only looks right on the outside. From the parable of the wise and foolish builders (Luke 6:46-49), we trace what it actually means to build a spiritual foundation on the rock. We're not talking about earning salvation through effort. We're talking about the evidence of salvation: a growing desire to obey Jesus, shaped by the Holy Spirit through sanctification. We connect the warning to everyday life, where hearing God's Word is easy, but doing it is the hard, life-forming work that prepares us for pressure, suffering, and the storms that eventually come for everyone. We also lean into the idea that the most important parts of the Christian life are often unseen. Like a skyscraper foundation far below street level, prayer, Scripture, repentance, and small acts of obedience quietly build strength. If you've ever wished God would just “deliver” instant maturity, we challenge that shortcut mentality and point toward a steadier path: a long obedience in the same direction. If you want a clearer picture of real Christian discipleship, a stronger foundation for trials, and a fresh call to trust Jesus with your whole life, press play. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review with the part that challenged you most.
In Episode 115 of 2 Minute Disciple, host Nick Oyler leads a contemplative devotional through Matthew 7:24–29 — Jesus' powerful closing parable of the Sermon on the Mount. Two builders. Two foundations. One storm. The difference isn't knowledge — it's obedience. One hears and does. The other hears and doesn't.
In this sobering conclusion to the "Kingdom Now" series on the Sermon on the Mount, Pastor Karl closes Matthew 7:21–29 with Jesus' urgent call to authentic, obedient faith. He recaps the narrow gate—Jesus Himself as the exclusive way to the Father (John 10:9)—requiring self-denial and kingdom priority, a path few find because truth is non-negotiable. The terrifying warning follows: Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom—only those who do the Father's will. Even miracle-workers may hear, "I never knew you; depart from me," underscoring that salvation demands an intimate, mutual relationship: truly knowing Jesus and being known by Him, not superficial confession or religious activity without heart surrender and obedience.Pastor Karl illustrates this with the parable of the wise and foolish builders: Everyone hears Jesus' words, but only doers build on the rock. Storms are certain—far beyond our strength—and they reveal the unseen foundation. Lives built on anything else crumble with great destruction. Hearing or studying the Word isn't enough; we must be doers (James 1:22) for transformed, fruitful lives. He shares the powerful story behind "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus," born from Nokseng's martyrdom in India, declaring unwavering commitment amid tragedy: "No turning back… though none go with me… the cross before me, the world behind me."The message ends with Jesus' astonishing authority as the Word incarnate and a solemn challenge: Will you follow—not with lip service, but with total devotion through the narrow gate? As the congregation is invited to stand and sing the hymn only if they can declare it personally, Pastor Karl urges genuine surrender, heart examination, and reaching out for prayer to confirm a true decision to follow Christ. A grace-filled, convicting call to move from profession to possession, building on the only foundation that endures the storm.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Will the life you're building truly stand the test of life's inevitable storms? As we conclude our journey through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we're confronted with a powerful image: two houses, two builders, two outcomes. Both people heard the same teaching and faced similar challenges, yet one stood firm while the other tragically collapsed. The crucial difference is not merely hearing Jesus' words but choosing to build your life on them slowly, intentionally, and obediently. Let's dig deep beneath the surface, learning how to truly anchor ourselves to the Rock, Jesus Christ, so that when the winds rage and the floods rise, our lives remain unshaken.Thank you for listening to this message from Northwest Hills Community Church in Corvallis, Oregon, on June 1, 2025, at 10:15am. Two houses. Same storm. One stood. One collapsed. In this message, we're not just talking about sand and rock—we're talking about your foundation. Pastor Warren walks through Jesus' mic-drop moment in Matthew 7, calling out the difference between hearing His words and actually doing them. ✔️ Looks can deceive ✔️ Storms always reveal ✔️ Only one foundation will stand Your job, money, relationships—even religion—can look solid on the surface. But when life shakes, only Jesus holds. So here's the question: What are you building your life on?

The importance of building one's life and faith on the strong foundation of Jesus Christ alone
As Jesus concludes his famous Sermon on the Mount, he wraps up with a series of ultimatums. His core question is, "What are you going to do with my words?"
This week, we wrapped up our "Summer on the Mount" series. The Cabin is presented by the Wisconsin Counties Association and this week we're featuring Vernon County: https://bit.ly/3MlEDXWThe Cabin is also brought to you by Group Health Trust: https://bit.ly/3JMizCXCampfire Conversation:Eric, Ana, and Jake welcome Chelsey Knuth into The Cabin for a heady look at Wisconsin's indoor museums, since it's a good time of year to be indoors when doing casual things. Chelsey is known to over 50,000 IG followers as The Wisconsinista, and her extensive travels around the state give her a solid level of expertise and another perspective. All four Cabin dwellers dive in to some of their favorite museums to explore, including Chelsey with some “must see” museums like the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World (complete with Wisconsin's largest aquarium), and the Harley-Davidson Museum for when you're in Wisconsin's largest city. For art, she recommends the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wausau; the Wisconsin Museum of Quilt & Fiber Arts in Cedarburg; and, in a twist, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah - for a more fragile yet just-as-stunning art. Chelsey also delved into children's museums, with great ones in Milwaukee, La Crosse, Green Bay, Madison, Eau Claire and more. On a more somber yet very historical note, the Peshtigo Fire Museum is a great stop once it opens again in spring. Hall of Fame Museums cover the Green Bay Packers, snowmobiles, even bobbleheads. Historic homes and mansions across state to explore include the Pabst Mansion and Villa Terrace in Milwaukee; House on the Rock and Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin home, both near Spring Green; the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh; the Fairlawn Mansion in Superior, and more. Ana delved into cultural museums, including the Menominee Tribe Cultural & Logging Museum; plus, Wisconsin's own State Capitol is a museum in itself. Eric discussed the National Brewery Museum in Potosi, the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, Green Bay's Neville Public Museum and National Railroad Museum, the Copper Culture Museum in Oconto, and - while there's an outdoor component too - the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward. Jake chimed in with the National Mustard Museum in Middleton and - perhaps most unique - Redner's Rescued Cat Figurine Museum in Menomonee Falls.
