Chris Athavle Ephesians 6:5-9 Slaves, Obey Your Masters in the Lord!
Christian employees are called to a higher standard in the workplace. All Christian work is to be done from the heart to the Lord. We do this because we are in Christ and He is Supreme over our lives.

3-3-24 | Part 8 of our Colossians sermons series, "Slaves and Masters". Today's Bible verses are Colossians 2:22-4:6. When Paul wrote his letter to the church in Colosse from prison, he taught them that Christ is all that matters. Not religious rituals, not current culture teaching, but Christ is enough. This series looks verse-by-verse in the book of Colossians to see what the Holy Spirit is telling the Church about how to live as the body of Christ.

Introduction: The sermon begins by setting the historical context of slavery in Roman times, clarifying that it differed significantly from the chattel slavery known in American history.Biblical Text and Interpretation: Ephesians 6 is examined, highlighting instructions for both slaves and masters. The focus is on obeying and serving as unto Christ, not just human masters.Principles for Modern Application: The sermon applies these principles to modern employer-employee relationships, advocating for respect, sincerity, and service in the workplace.Motivation for Work: Emphasis is placed on working for the glory of Christ, not merely for personal gain or recognition.Equality Before God: The sermon stresses that in Christ, there is no distinction between slave and master, as all are equal before God.Practical Implications for Employers and Employees: It calls for employers to treat employees justly and with dignity, recognizing them as fellow image-bearers of God.Spiritual Application: The sermon ties the themes of work, obedience, and authority to the broader Christian life, urging believers to view their work as a means of glorifying God.Conclusion: It concludes with a reminder that our actions in the workplace can lead others to Christ and should reflect our commitment to Him.
Today, we justly look with abhorrence at slavery. It has not been that way throughout all of history. Slavery has been practiced in various manners, even in biblical times. Listen as Dr. John teaches on Paul's commands in Colossians to both slaves and masters. We are reminded that any condition can be a vehicle of grace for God's glory. The True Christian: There are forgery works of art hanging undetected in museums. They look authentic but are false. There can be false Christians in our congregations. It can be hard to discern the fake from the authentic. The book of Colossians is aimed at understanding the real Jesus and being real Jesus followers. This series of messages by Dr. John Neufeld will clarify our beliefs and fortify our living of the truth in Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:22-4:1 The post Kingdom of the Son: Household Code Slaves and Masters appeared first on Faith Community Church Lakeside.
God gives instructions on how slaves were to act toward their masters and how masters were toward their slaves. For many modern readers, this makes us uncomfortable and leaves us confused. We assume that instructions are inferred endorsements but this couldn't be further from the truth. Join me as we dive into this challenging text and discover how Christianity is the moral code that led to slavery being seen as what it is, evil. Pastor Jeff Lewis preaches on Ephesians 6:5-9.
Embrace God’s Word with us as Dave Shumaker (Elder at Midland Free) preaches from Ephesians 6:5-9 in the message, Slaves and Masters? ///// FACTS ABOUT SLAVERY: 1) Slavery is endemic to fallen humanity. 2) Slavery has taken various forms: Kidnap Slavery, War-capture Slavery, Indentured Servitude, Voluntary Slavery (Bond-Servant), and Sexual Slavery (Ancient & Modern). 3) Rather than being the source of slavery, the Judeo-Christian West was the first to abolish it. 4) The pernicious thing about American slavery was that it made slavery a racial issue. 5) Sadly, there are currently more slaves in the world than were ever brought to the United States in all its history. ///// WAYS THE SCRIPTURES UNDERCUT SLAVERY: 1) Men and women are all made in God’s Image—and are therefore intrinsically valuable. 2) God’s primary picture of salvation was the delivery of Israel from slavery in Egypt. 3) Being a kidnap slaver is a sign of being an unbeliever (1 Timothy 1:10). 4) War-Capture slavery seems to be a disincentive for war. 5) All Israeli “slavery” was, by definition, indentured servitude. 6) God Gives all His children equal access to the Father through Jesus Christ. 7) Paul even hints at releasing the slave, Onesimus, in Philemon. ///// APPLICATION: 1) To those tempted to reject the Scriptures due to misunderstanding its role in history, we would invite you to find true freedom in Christ. 2) As Christians, we should be the hardest workers in our respective workplaces because we work for the LORD. 3) As Christian “bosses” we should model Christlikeness in how we lead in the workplace.
Hear more in this week's message from Pastor Anthony!Discussion Questions:1. As an employer, am I leading through Christ, like Christ, and for Christ?2. As an employee, am I working through Christ, like Christ, and for Christ?3. Do I fully accept Jesus as my master?
There are two strong Christian traditions when it comes to robust political or industrial action such as strikes. One argues for enduring oppression and unfair employment in the manner of Jesus and points to Paul's teaching in the Bible on slaves and masters. But a second position throws its weight behind efforts to challenge injustice and protect the vulnerable, noting Jesus's clear teaching on care for the widow, orphan and stranger. In this episode we consider these two strands of Christian thinking and how they end up being applied, sometimes poorly, to the question of public servants going on strike. And is there a third response to the paralysis and conflict which has erupted in British society – the distinctively Christian virtue of reconciliation? Josiah Riser - Ephesians 6:5-9 | 2023-02-22 PM | High School
The Bible was written in a very different age and time. One of the challenges of studying scripture is learning how to understand its meaning then and now. Certainly one of those challenging topics is Paul's advice to slaves and masters. In today's episode, Pastor Jim takes a closer look at that advice, giving it historical context and helping us recognize what it says to us today. As the pastoral epistles previously reminded us, all scripture is God-breathed and useful. It's true even of hard passages like today's.

It's another hard chapter for Leif here, one that lead him towards questioning his fundamentalism. If God is all loving why would he be so for something that is so unspeakably horrible. Slaves obery your masters, Fuck Ephesians 6.
