James 3 reveals the incredible power of our words and the responsibility that comes with speaking. Just as a small bit controls a massive horse and a tiny rudder steers enormous ships, our tongue—though small—directs the entire course of our lives. Words can destroy relationships like a spark ignites a forest fire, yet they can also be a fountain of life that builds others up. While humans can tame wild animals, we cannot tame our tongues without God's help. Our speech should be characterized by four life-giving qualities: Loving, Intentional, Factual, and Edifying. The choice is ours—will our words bring life or destruction?
Philemon 1:1-3, Holy Communion, Leader & President: Revd Richard Pendlebury, Preacher: Revd Ian Tomkins
Authentic faith goes far beyond intellectual agreement with biblical truths - it produces genuine transformation in how we live. James addresses the critical distinction between dead faith and living faith, emphasizing that true faith naturally results in good works. This isn't about earning salvation through actions, but rather understanding that works are the inevitable fruit of genuine faith. As John Calvin noted, faith alone justifies, but the faith that justifies is never alone. James illustrates this principle through practical examples, showing how empty words without corresponding actions accomplish nothing. Just as telling a hungry, naked person to be warm and fed without providing help is meaningless, faith that produces no life change is equally useless. Even demons possess correct theology and believe in God, yet they remain in rebellion because their belief doesn't transform their hearts. The examples of Abraham and Rahab demonstrate how living faith manifests differently across various backgrounds. Abraham, the faithful patriarch, showed living faith by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. Rahab, despite being a Gentile prostitute, demonstrated the same living faith by protecting the Israelite spies. Both were considered righteous not merely for their beliefs, but for how their faith produced action. This teaching doesn't contradict salvation by grace - rather, it explains how genuine salvation naturally produces visible fruit in a believer's life.

In this first message for 2026 Phil Mason shares on the theme of Living for God. In an age of ever-increasing lawlessness, where so many are taking the name of the Lord in vain, there is an imperative for those of us who truly believe in God to live for Him. But what does it mean to live for God?Do we really believe that God exists? If we do, we must make the radical decision to live fully for Him; otherwise, we will be swept up in what Paul called the ‘strong delusion' (2 Thessalonians 2:11) that is sweeping away all those who cannot escape the rising tide of lawlessness that is gripping the planet. How do we know if we are under this ‘strong delusion?' The world is full of religious people who profess a belief in God yet are completely unmoved by Him. If we truly believe in God, then we must live for Him. Allow this message to set the compass of your heart for 2026. Be blessed!

Pastor Neil will finish up the Living Out Your Faith Series with the last message from James 5: 13-16 titled - "The Power Of Prayer" James 5:13-16 instructs believers to pray in times of suffering and sing praises when cheerful, and for the sick to call for church elders to pray over them with anointing oil, as the prayer of faith can save the sick and forgive sins. It also encourages believers to confess their sins to one another and pray for one another to be healed, emphasizing that the "effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much". Prayer is powerful. God works when we pray, so pray! Things happen when we pray, so pray! Things change when we pray: mountains move, and perhaps most important, we change, so PRAY! "Don't underestimate the power of your prayers!” So pray!

Pastor Neil will be bringing the next message from this series titled- "WAITING ON THE LORD" from James 5:7-8 The message of James 5:7-8 is a call for Christians to be patient and steadfast while enduring trials and waiting for the coming of the Lord. We must be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. The Lord's imminent arrival should motivate believers to live holy lives, avoid grumbling against one another, conduct themselves with integrity and be sharing the gospel message with as many as we can, as the Judge is standing right at the door waiting for the father to say - GO GET YOUR CHILDREN. WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!!

Sunday Morning, October 12, 2025, Series: Living the Life, 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Pastor Carlos Navarrete
Pastor Neil will continue the Living Out Your Faith Series with the next message titled: Has Jesus made a difference in you? From James 1:19-22 Here's the thing about living according to the Word of God: it's not optional. If a person says they accept God but they do not accept what God says to do, then they have not actually accepted God. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). If we think we can follow God apart from obedience, we're only deceiving ourselves. When God's ways are most prevalent in our hearts then God's ways will come out. But if it's the world's ways filling our hearts, then it's the world's ways that will come out. Has Jesus made a difference in your life?

This is Part 1 of our 4-part A Back to School Series on Live Vedanta. From navigating loneliness and evolving friendships to maintaining family connections from a distance, this conversation offers Vedantik tools for clarity and self-rootedness during young adulthood. Whether you're starting college or simply stepping into a new chapter, this episode reminds you that even through change, you can grow with intention and connection. In this episode, Sumanji sits down with Akshaya to explore what it means to live away from home while staying anchored within. Having grown up always hearing from his parents, “we want you to be happy, we want you to be independent,” Sumanji strove to do just that in all the ways society and the world had to offer. Leaving medical school in hopes of achieving more fulfillment through a career in IT, Sumanji found himself still wanting, wondering what it meant to be truly happy, truly independent. It was clear happiness was what everyone desired for themselves and each other, but it remained ever elusive. It was then that Sumanji went to his first Satsang in Pittsburgh, PA, and met Shri Vivek Gupta, who shared with him the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta. Convinced and compelled that he, too, could experience this for himself, Suman joined the two-year residential Vedanta course under the guidance of Pujya Swami Prakashananda at Chinmaya Mission's ashram in Trinidad & Tobago.Returning in 2018, Sumanji now lives in Providence, RI, where he works full-time as an Information Technology Manager. He serves Chinmaya Mission Niagara and Cleveland through various classes and study groups, traveling every opportunity he gets to share the message that gave his life meaning: that perpetual, independent joy is one's nature.Register to be a part of our Seeking Culture CommUnity for young adults.Edited by Dhruv Panicker.Follow Seeking Culture on Instagram

In today's episode we discuss how we live in a materialistic world.
Message by Kerrie Bauer, recorded live May 18, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. Scripture read by Greg Hart.Living Water FlowsJesus is our living water and in powerful ways he shows us how it flows between us to bring new life. Note that John points out that Jesus was “tired out” from the journey. Imagine yourself in a hot and dry climate, coming upon a lone man sitting beside a well, visibly tired. How does it speak to you to consider Jesus as tired? What does it mean to hear Jesus ask for a drink?Read John 4:1-42. Notice the questions asked. Who asks questions and who is afraid to ask questions? What do the questions reveal about the asker? What does the silence reveal about those who do not ask questions? How does the Samaritan woman experience Jesus' insight into her life? How does she respond? How does living water flow between people in this text?John 4:1-101 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, “Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John” 2 (although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized), 3 he left Judea and started back to Galilee. 4 But he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.7 A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”John 4:13-1513 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.”

By calling His followers salt and light Jesus is saying that we are vital to the world as a preserving agent in society, restraining corruption and shining as a visible witness. We are challenged to consider that salt loosing its saltiness is equivalent to Christians loosing their Christlikeness.

In this episode we explore how our "material world" influences the manifestation of TMS/MindBody Syndrome. Interestingly, the very symptoms that one experiences is influenced not only by one's own personal experiences, but also subconsciously through collective and cultural influences. This leads to the infinite expression of TMS symptoms that one may experience at any given time.Since your belief system is also a factor of the world in which you live, it can be difficult to break free from the mythology of physical symptoms resulting from physical causes. This is especially true when navigating the medical system (both conventional and alternative) as well as simply going about daily life in relationships with friends, family, and the general public.Healing TMS means breaking free from the belief system from which TMS is bred, seeing the holes in the materialistic logic so that you can embrace the truth of the multidimensional mindbody phenomenon.Hopefully you can start to get a glimpse of freedom from TMS - it's closer than you might think! For more support in your healing, check out the TMS Free Life Program (https://www.alter.health/tms-free-life) or 1-1 coaching with Dr. Ben (https://www.alter.health/mind-body-coaching) Links to more good stuff - GREEN FORCE! - www.visfoods.co (use the code AlterYourHealth for $10 off)- Eat More, Weigh Less Program - www.alter.health/eat-more-weigh-less- 1-on-1 Nutritional Analysis Package - www.alter.health/nutritional-analysis - Get the Alter Health weekly WFPB Meal Guides: www.alter.health/meal-guides- Thrive on Plants Program: www.alter.health/thrive-on-plants- TMS Free Life Program - www.alter.health/tms-free-life
