In this episode of Terrorism 360°, Founding Director of START Dr. Gary LaFree interviews Dr. Jonathan Wilkenfeld, a professor at the University of Maryland and Director of the ICONS simulation project at START. He is a specialist in foreign policy decision-making, crisis behavior, and mediation, as well as in the use of simulation in political science. Since 1977, Wilkenfeld has served as co-Director of the International Crisis Behavior Project, a cross-national study of international crises in the twentieth century.

His research mission is to develop, implement, and evaluate psychosocial interventions that are feasible, acceptable, and effective with respect to the complex real-life contexts where migrants and refugees live.

In this episode of Terrorism 360°, Founding Director of START Dr. Gary LaFree interviews Dr. Jessica Stern, an expert on perpetrators of violence and the possible connections between trauma and terror in the field of terrorism studies. She has written on terrorist groups across religions and ideologies, among them neo-Nazis, Islamists, anarchists, and white supremacists, writing also about anti-terrorist movements. She is currently working on a study of Radovan Karadzic, a former politician indicted for war crimes in Bosnia.

In this episode of Terrorism 360°, Founding Director of START Dr. Gary LaFree interviews terrorism expert Dr. Marc Sageman, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia and a Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Center for the Study of Terrorism. Dr. Sageman is also the special advisor to the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff, and has testified before both the 9/11 Commission in the U.S. and the Beslan Commission in Russia.

Dr. Jenkins is a senior adviser to the president of the RAND Corporation, and formerly served as chair of the Political Science Department at RAND. He is a research associate at the Mineta Transportation Institute where he directs the continuing research on protecting surface transportation against terrorist attacks.

In this episode of Terrorism 360°, Founding Director of START Dr. Gary LaFree interviews Dr. Gina Ligon, an Associate Professor of Management at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Director of Research and Development in the Center of Collaboration Science. She is currently the Principal Investigator on a START project examining the leadership and performance of transnational Violent Extremist Organizations. Her research interests include violent ideological groups, leadership and management, and she has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these subjects.

In this episode of Terrorism 360°, Founding Director of START Dr. Gary LaFree interviews Dr. Clark McCauley, a psychology professor and Co­Director of the Solomon Asch Center for Study of Ethnopolitical Conflict at Bryn Mawr College. His research interests include stereotypes, group identification, group dynamics and intergroup conflict, and in recent years he has focused on the psychological foundations of ethnic conflict, genocide and terrorism. He is a Lead Investigator of a number of projects for START.

Dr. Rapoport has received 12 Awards from a variety of Foundations including the Social Science Research Council, Ford Foundation, Fulbright, American Council of Learned Societies, National Institute of Mental Health and Harry Frank Guggenheim. He founded the Journal Terrorism and Political Violence in 1989 which he continues to edit to this day.

He has testified regarding terrorism on several occasions before the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, as well as the National Research Council.
