Aaron has been into the paranormal since childhood, growing up in what he calls a mildly haunted house. He followed this thru high school and college, doing solo investigations with a tape recorder, film camera and note pad. He joined East Tn Paranormal Research Society in his late 20s and spent 10 years with them, as an investigator, Promotions Director and then Lead Investigator. He's been on more investigations that he can remember and had the opportunity to both provide rational answers to families in distress, and witness things that left him without rational answers.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beyond-the-tin-foil-hat--5335638/support.

Yuri Bukhenik was the only witness to take the stand as he walked in with bins of evidence. There was confusion regarding John O'Keefe's sneakers being initially misidentified a being the one from from 34 Fairview versus from the hospital. Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan and Bukhenik talked briefly in the beginning about Proctor, calling him Mr. Proctor instead of Trooper Proctor but we know Defense Attorney Alan Jackson will call him Former Trooper Proctor. Sgt. Yuri Bukhenik explained that there was an investigation against him due to failure to properly Supervise Michael Proctor. His punishment was that he lost 5 vacation days. He continues to work in homicide and has not been demoted from Sargent. When Bukhenik read the text message thread from Proctor, which contained horrible messages that he said he acknowledged with a thumbs up emoji, we can only image what was going through the jurors minds.Bukhenik presented a video timeline of Karen Read drinking at CF McCarthy's and The Waterfall before we got to Cross Examination!Sgt. Bukhenik refused to call Proctor the Lead Investigator of this case and said he was only a "Case Agent' and/or "Case Officer." He was questioned about the integrity of the investigation and whether Michael Proctor's involvement tainted it, to which he responded that the investigation was done with honor and integrity. When asked if Proctor handled the case with honor and integrity, Bukhenik relented and only said yes with integrity. Access to evidence, specifically John O'Keefe's clothing, was discussed, noting that "anyone with a key card" had access to the room where it was stored for six days. The timing and documentation of evidence collection, particularly clothing and items from 34 Fairview, were questioned. It was noted that reports about the searches weren't written until November 4th, 2023, despite the events happening in February 2022!RESOURCESWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQ Karen Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-vo Karen Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy
Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D Baker YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/live/QZlJIBMCSsMDay 11 of the Karen Read Retrial happened on May 7, 2025. It feels like Deja Vu for Emily because it is her birthday and last year she was covering Day 6 of the first Karen Read trial! The Prosecution's case said it would take 3 weeks and half to present their case and they are more than halfway through, but several key witnesses, such as Former Trooper Michael Proctor, have not yet been called.Trooper Connor Keefe took the stand and displayed physical evidence, including pieces of tail light and a shoe, was shown to the jury. There was an issue with the evidence bag containing tail light pieces being marked as "two pieces" when there were actually three. Defense Attorney David Yanetti had an effective Cross Examination and Keefe tried to distance himself from Former Trooper Proctor or even say that he does good work. Yanetti pointed out that Keefe is a junior detective, and he was the only person who attended John O'Keefe's autopsy. It is usually the Lead Investigator that attends the autopsy and the fact that his partner, Trooper Bukhenik, didn't attend either is also strange. The fact that a fallen officer, John O'Keefe, was not treated with respect is baffling. Jessica Hyde, the Digital Forensics Examiner, took the stand to take about the Cellebrite data of Jen McCabe and John O'Keefe's phone. She talked about the various tools she used to decipher the information and her opinion on the "Hos long to die in cold" Google Search began at 6:23:49am because that is when Apple Suggested Term gave her, "How long does it take to digest food." After that, is when other variations of search happens like "how long ti die in cikd" at 6:23:51am, 6:23:57am, 6:24:18am, & 6:24:47am. Hyde also explained that a browser tab cannot be deleted and that Jen McCabe didn't manually delete any calls from her log. The phone has a limitation that it only stores 200 calls records and from Jan 29 to February 1st, when her phone was imaged, she must have made over 200 calls because the older calls were being erased from the phone in order to store new incoming calls. This is believable because we've heard her make 5 calls in 10 mins when the FBI unexpectedly showed up at her house for questing. Another notable instance is that Jessica Hyde noted in her report that John's phone interaction is at 12:20am but Ian Whiffin's report showed that the phone was locked with a button at 12:32am. In Jessica Hyde's testimony indicated that John O'Keefe's phone did not appear to have been secured in a Faraday bag or placed in airplane mode, as evidenced by the fact that SMS messages and ring notifications were still being received on the phone. This raised concerns about whether the phone was properly handled and secured by law enforcement, as new information could potentially still be added to the device.Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan played a clip from ID Docuseries, April 30, 2024, where Karen Read says, "Jen McCabe- It's me or her. Either I'm going down, Jen, or you are!” The implications of these statements and how the jury might interpret them are considered. The Prosecution can infer that Karen is using Jen as a scapegoat and with more videos he will use at his disposal, make it to where she has no choice to take the stand to clarify her statements. The Prosecution is presenting a stronger case in this retrial compared to the previous trial. However, concerns are raised about upcoming testimonies, such as the accident reconstructionist and medical experts.RESOURCESDay 6 of the first Karen Read Trial -

Cross Examination of the Lead Investigator ended, and the State rested their case. The Defense argued dismissal of the case, but the judge denied it. Sarah Boone then took the stand. After the first part of her testimony, her Defense argued there were overt acts in order to present a battered spouse syndrome to the jury. The motion was granted.Cross Examination was very short and focused more on getting a timeline. In a significant development following the mistrial in the Karen Read murder case, the Massachusetts State Police announced that Trooper Michael Proctor has been relieved of his duties. The decision came on Monday, July 1, shortly after the announcement that the sensational, months-long trial had ended in a mistrial. Colonel John E. Mawn, Jr., interim superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, stated, “Upon learning today's result, the Department took immediate action to relieve Trooper Michael Proctor of duty and formally transfer him out of the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office State Police Detective's Unit.” Proctor will be transferred from his current unit on Sunday, July 7. He did not respond to requests for comment when approached by PEOPLE. Proctor's inflammatory and derogatory text messages about Karen Read, which emerged during the trial, have sparked significant controversy. Read's defense team accused Proctor of attempting to frame her, alleging he planted evidence at the scene to protect others involved. During the trial, Proctor admitted on the stand to sending unprofessional messages about Read, including calling her derogatory names. “She's a whack-job,” Proctor texted to fellow troopers. The judge intervened during the trial, making Proctor spell out the vulgar term he used to describe Read. The internal affairs investigation into Proctor's conduct is ongoing. “This follows our previous decision to open an internal affairs investigation after information about serious misconduct emerged in testimony at the trial. This investigation is ongoing,” Mawn added. The mistrial in the Karen Read case was declared by Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Beverly Cannone after the jury reported being unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Prosecutors have stated their intention to retry Read, who is accused of second-degree murder. Read, 44, allegedly backed her SUV into her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, 46, and left him to die on January 29, 2022. Read claims she dropped O'Keefe off at a house party and left, while her defense argues that O'Keefe was involved in a physical altercation at the party and was later left outside. Read's defense team has alleged a massive cover-up involving local and state law enforcement officials. They claim that retired Boston police officer Brian Albert and others at the party know what happened and are framing Read to protect themselves. The defense has specifically accused Proctor of having personal ties with the Alberts and of manipulating evidence. In a dramatic exchange captured by CBS News, Proctor was made to read aloud his derogatory messages during the trial, highlighting the extent of his misconduct. “This investigation is crucial to ensure the integrity of our law enforcement practices and to address any violations of department policy,” stated an official from the Massachusetts State Police. The trial and its ensuing controversies have captivated public attention, with many eager to see how the retrial will unfold and whether justice will ultimately be served. On Tuesday November 7, Sam Haskell IV, hires a couple day laborers to take 3 bags of rocks to to the dump. The bags don't feel like rocks, they feel like meat. A block away from Haskell's home the men open a bag. Seeing a belly button, the men returned the bags and the money to Haskell who claims they saw Halloween props. The workers go to the police to tell their story, but end up having to call 911 from the parking lot of the police station. By the time cops get to Haskell's place to investigate, Haskell is gone and so are the supposed bags of body parts. An investigation starts. The next morning at 6:15 am a 911 call comes in from a homeless man who was dumpster diving when he finds a has headless body. The headless torso of a female identified after an autopsy, confirmed to be the wife of Sam Haskell IV. According to the autopsy report whoever did this "dismembered torso with a single sharp force injury at the base of the anterior neck. No fatal injuries were found on the torso. The report further states Haskell's "head, majority of the neck, and majority of all four extremities" as absent and the "amputation sites" as "remarkably smooth" which suggests a sharp power tool was likely used. One of the most shocking facts found in the autopsy report is that Mei Haskell may have been alive when her head was severed from her torso. According to the autopsy report "there was no definite indication that dismemberment occured antemortem." However, "the possibility that the head and neck removal was initiated prior to death cannot be entirely excluded." Massachusetts State Police have confirmed an ongoing investigation into Trooper Michael Proctor, a lead investigator in the murder case against Karen Read. The revelation follows assertions made by Read's defense team regarding "significant relationships" involving Proctor, just one day prior to the announcement. In a statement provided to media sources on Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police acknowledged that Trooper Michael Proctor "is being investigated for a potential violation of department policy." However, specific details regarding the nature of the potential violation or its relation to a particular case were not disclosed by the department. Proctor's involvement in the Karen Read case has come under scrutiny amid defense allegations of impropriety. Read stands accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, purportedly by striking him with her car and abandoning him outside a fellow police officer's home. However, Read's defense team has launched a vigorous defense, accusing the police of conducting a flawed investigation and suppressing crucial evidence. During a recent court appearance on Tuesday, defense attorney Alan Jackson presented multiple motions, including a motion to dismiss the case against Read. Jackson highlighted what he described as deliberate "distortions" of evidence that misled the state grand jury into issuing an indictment against Read. One such instance involved Proctor's purported interactions with Julie Albert, raising questions about potential biases. Jackson pointed out that ten days prior to O'Keefe's death, Proctor exchanged text messages with Julie Albert regarding babysitting arrangements. Furthermore, just three days after O'Keefe's demise, Proctor allegedly received a text from his sister discussing a future "thank-you gift" from Julie Albert, to which he responded, "Get (my wife) one." Responding to inquiries, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police confirmed that Trooper Michael Proctor remains on full active duty status during the ongoing investigation. Karen Read's trial, scheduled for April 16, hangs in the balance amid these revelations. The developments surrounding Proctor's investigation have cast further uncertainty over the proceedings, with implications for the integrity of the case against Read. As the investigation unfolds and legal proceedings continue, the defense maintains its stance, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability in the pursuit of justice. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts State Police assure the public of their commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism within their ranks. Massachusetts State Police have initiated an internal investigation into Trooper Michael Proctor, the lead investigator in the Karen Read murder case, as confirmed by a spokesperson on Wednesday night. The investigation comes amidst the ongoing legal proceedings against Karen Read, who stands accused of second-degree murder in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Boston police Officer John O'Keefe. O'Keefe was discovered dead outside a Canton home belonging to the Albert family in January 2022. During a recent pretrial hearing, Read's defense team raised concerns about potential misconduct within the investigation. Defense attorney Alan Jackson alleged that Proctor had undisclosed relationships with key witnesses, including members of the Albert family. Jackson presented evidence, including text messages, suggesting a personal connection between Proctor and the Alberts. In response, Assistant District Attorney Adam Lally stated that while there was contact, the alleged babysitting arrangement never materialized. However, these allegations were refuted by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey in an August 2023 public statement. Morrissey denied claims that Proctor had any motive or opportunity to tamper with evidence, emphasizing that Proctor had no personal relationship with parties involved in the case. Despite the ongoing investigation, Proctor will remain on full duty. The nature of the alleged violation remains undisclosed, and it is unclear whether it is directly related to Read's case. In light of recent developments, Read's defense team filed a motion requesting information from the State Police Internal Affairs Unit, although the specifics of their request have not been made public. Furthermore, supporters of Karen Read are planning a protest outside the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office in Canton on Thursday afternoon. The State Police's internal investigation raises questions about the integrity of the Karen Read case, casting further doubt on the prosecution's claims and emphasizing the need for transparency in legal proceedings. As developments unfold, the Massachusetts State Police and Norfolk County District Attorney's Office face increasing scrutiny over their handling of this high-profile murder case. This news comes amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions and public interest surrounding the case, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting further updates on its progress. Today, we delve deep into the realms of audio phenomena and Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), intertwined with a discussion around poltergeist phenomena. Joining me on the podcast is Tony Hayes, a seasoned investigator on the frontline of paranormal exploration. Get ready to be captivated by Tony's firsthand experiences and insights into the peculiar audio phenomena linked with poltergeist manifestations. Tune in as we uncover the unexplained and unravel the secrets of the unseen! My Special Guest Is Tony Hayes Tony grew up in Cheshire, England. After graduating in Science and Physics with Chemical giants ICI, he left the security of this large company and moved into Government Service and later the Police Service. He has investigated reports of spontaneous paranormal activity since 1989 and is a member of the SPR and ASSAP. He is the Case Manager and Lead Investigator for Paranormal Investigation UK operating a small team of psychical researchers. He is currently jointly working with the SPR investigating a high end live poltergeist case in Essex including the apports of over 460 coins into the property. EVP Audio and Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) refer to the purported manifestation of voices or sounds on recorded media, often without any identifiable physical source. Sceptics attribute EVP to artefacts of audio recording processes, such as interference, signal bleed, or pareidolia—where the brain perceives familiar patterns in random stimuli. In this episode, you will be able to: 1. Explore how to analyse EVP recordings and what to be aware of. 2. Discuss what may be different about EVP and sounds recorded to ordinary sound. Matthew Perry wrote about his issues with addiction to alcohol and drugs. In his memoir, he said he began drinking at 14 and was an alcoholic by 18. Perry first went to rehab and completed a 28-day program at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation after a jet-ski accident led to an addiction to Vicodin. In his 2022 memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big, Terrible Thing," Perry claimed to have been to rehab 15 times, detoxed 65 times, and spent about $7 to $9 million trying to get sober. After years of addiction, Matthew Perry spent 5-months in the hospital after his colon burst from prolonged opioid abuse. Perry says he was in surgery for seven hours and in a coma for two weeks. Doctors told his family he had a 2% chance of survival. After leaving the hospital, Perry used a colostomy bag for months. Two years after his near-death experience, Matthew Perry goes to a Rehab facility in Switzerland. He wrote that he faked pain symptoms to get Oxycontin during COVID. He was also getting daily Ketamine infusions. While at the facility, Perry needed to have surgery and was given propofol. When he woke up 11 hours later, he found out his heart had stopped for 5 minutes and during the long CPR process 8 of his ribs were broken. The doctor then refused more meds. On October 28, Matthew Perry went to his country club to play a game of Pickleball with friends. Perry returned to his home after the game and was seen by his assistant, who was leaving the house to run errands. At 4 p.m., the assistant returned home and found Perry floating face down in the heated end of the pool. Paramedics pulled Perry out of the pool and pronounced him dead at the scene. The DailyMail reports the actor died from an overdose of the "party drug ketamine."
