Have you ever taken a picture of toilet paper sitting on the stairs, sent it to your friends with the caption of "when is HE going to get a clue?" Yeah, women take on a huge amount of invisible labor - from 1) concept: we only have 1 roll of TP left, mental note made, put it on the list to get at the store. 2) planning: look at schedule. Wow, I have 60 minutes free between 1-2pm, kids are at camp, I don't have a meeting, guess that's a good time. 3) execution: go to the store driving 90 mph between meetings and pick up everything - make sure not to forget the blueberries. Toilet paper is taking up a lot of mental space just being needed in our house - getting it to show up on the roll when we need it is just part of the puzzle. All of that time and energy is then not spent on us day-dreaming or exploring what we could be doing that will light up our soul. And now the more you think about the toilet paper, the closer you are ready to get divorced...when it's really not about toilet paper, summer camps or the never ending list of things that need to get done in the home. It's really that YOU WANT MORE TIME to explore what lit you up pre-kids. Instead of hoping for your relationship to change by leaving passive-aggressive clues OR putting off what lights you up, get in the driver seat and start to change it. The way to do it is to start asking for what you need. Now think even bigger... Do we want our patriarchal system to change? Hell YES! In this conversation, New York Times Best Selling Author, Eve Rodsky shares about how the first place to set this into motion is in the home. Check out everything Eve is up to here. Buy her book . As we evolve as a society, we've gotten really good at fixing everyone's problems with solutions that are nothing more than just band-aids, therefore, leaving many people with pain, anxiety and complex issues that just resurface. What if we looked at the root cause? What if we started to ask each person individually about what they deal with each day? What if we asked ourselves these questions instead of looking up symptoms on google? We are all unique. Period. If we want to heal ourselves, feel better as a society, there is no one quick fix. In this conversation with Chris Latham, a Functional Nutritionist out of Heal Well Nutrition in Santa Barbara, CA we share a dynamic discussion around getting to the root cause, treating each person as a unique individual that can be healed with the right questions and therefore a plan of attack fit just them. For YOU! This conversation is just the tip of the iceberg of information and knowledge that will help you make more informed choices so that you can feel better and live a vitality-filled life! Being in the work of personal development takes practice. That moment it starts is a call for us to wake up everywhere in our life. It doesn't just happen like that. And if it does, it's usually short lived. It's a process and a practice of peeling back the layers of ourselves. We begin to expose our blindspots - it can happen publicly or privately. But when you say yes to personal development, it will be revealed. The work doesn't end there. We keep living and facing the world while also having a level of awareness that allows us to separate how we used to live from how we want to live. Patty Ivey shares her heartfelt wisdom in our conversation. Patty's openness and relatability is a breath of fresh air and her love for personal development is felt through the sound waves of this conversation. Patty Ivey is the founder of DownDog Yoga in Washington D.C. Above all things, Patty is honest and a woman of integrity. She is a generous listener, empath, leader and a stand for everyone that wants to personally develop. I'm grateful and honored to call her my friend. She has an incredible Leadership program beginning March 6th for yoga teachers. She shares about it in our conversation and you can find out more by following her on instagram at @sweetensweaty
Have you heard the saying that when you say no to something it creates space to say yes to something else? Or taken in reverse, when you say yes to one thing, you are indeed saying no to something else. In any given day, we do this 1,000s of times. In this episode I explore examples of how saying no to some daily tasks can open up the time we need to get going with that....you know, workout we said we wanted to do yesterday. I'll also give you a really simple exercise to use to make resources available for all the things you want to say yes to. Show notes available here
Moving into Action for long term results takes some advance planning - starting with being where we are, then seeing where we want to go, we can move into action with more commitment, enthusiasm and gusto. In this episode, I'll take you through an exercise to move important goals from a concept in your mind, into action that lives and lights up your life.
Most of us, myself included, look at where we are and then get into action to fix what we don't like. Taking the time to look at where we want to go in all areas of our life is a vital part of the process. In this episode, I'll walk you through how to do just that so that the action you take is grounded in what you truly want to be creating, not just a band-aid or quick fix. Tune in to episode 15 or visit the notes to start with the journaling exercises on Being Where You Are first. Be. Look. Move. Get Messy.
In today's episode, I'm talking with Lieutenant Colonel Ed Arntson of the United States Army. His career in the army began 19 years ago and has included 7 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and the U.S. Border all while being married to his wife of 17 years and raising two kids who are now 11 and 9. I wanted to have this conversation with Ed because our lives are so different and I wanted to know more about what it's like to be in his shoes of service. What I got hit with during this conversation was not only the incredible path that he is on, my appreciation for his service to our country but how shared history connects us on a level beyond explanation and understanding. We don't know anything about the day to day woes that we both have but curiosity opens the door to connection and compassion. I hope this conversation brings joy to your heart, can tap into the relatability that we all share even if we are in different jobs. And lastly, that you take a moment to pause and appreciate those in your life who have left an imprint on you being the person you are today.
