Jim Noblitt is the District Manager at Auto Care USA in Houston, Texas, with more than four decades of automotive experience. He entered the industry in 1979 as a mechanic's helper, advanced into technician and dealership roles, and later helped launch Cornerstone Automotive; a business that contributed to the early operating model behind Christian Brothers Automotive.Noblitt went on to build and operate Mission Car Care in Katy, Texas, for 20 years before selling the business in 2022. His experience as a technician, owner, consultant, and multi-location operator gives him a practical view of recovering lost profit in an auto repair shop through disciplined processes, stronger financial controls, and better use of shop data.In this episode…Revenue does not disappear only through weak sales or low car count. It also disappears through unreturned cores, defective parts, missing credits, incorrect shipments, and paperwork that never gets reconciled. Noblitt estimates that these overlooked details can represent four to five percent of annual sales losses, money the shop has already earned but failed to collect.Multi-location operations carry even greater exposure because the same process failure repeats across every store. A return shelf filled with aging parts represents trapped cash, and an unverified credit slip represents money that has not reached the bottom line.Shop metrics expose another layer of lost opportunity. An extremely high close ratio often signals that advisors are presenting only the customer's original concern. A very low close ratio signals that customers are receiving large estimates without clear priorities. Digital vehicle inspections, average written repair orders, and close ratios reveal whether advisors are identifying needed work, communicating value, and separating urgent repairs from services that belong in a future visit.Recovering lost profit in an auto repair shop requires owners to study what the numbers are saying, assign accountability for routine financial controls, and correct small operational gaps before they spread across multiple locations. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: [01:17] Jim Noblitt's four-decade automotive industry career[03:25] Advancing from technician to dealership operations[04:12] Helping shape Christian Brothers Automotive's early model[08:46] Building and selling Mission Car Care after 20 years[12:20] Applying decades of experience through shop consulting[14:24] Recovering profit through stronger parts return controls[18:55] Using shop metrics to diagnose operational weaknesses[22:54] Why experienced shop owners still need business coaching[24:34] Leadership built on fairness, trust, and quality workResources mentioned in this episode:Tread PartnersGain Traction Podcast on YouTubeGain Traction Podcast WebsiteMike Edge on LinkedInQuotable Moments:“The numbers will usually tell you where your holes are.”“Knowing your numbers is so important.”“You're presenting all the facts now.”“Nobody cares like the owner, you know.”“Do a good job and treat people the way you want to be treated.”Action Steps:Audit every return shelf tomorrow morning.Assign one person to own parts returns and credits.Create a weekly return-credit report for every location.Review close ratios beside average written repair orders and DVI results.Build recovering lost profit in an auto repair shop into the management scorecard.

Your bookkeeping changes everything from a tax standpoint. If your books are messy, outdated, or based on guesswork, your tax planning is already working with bad information. You may miss deductions, misjudge your profit, make poor year-end decisions, or overpay the IRS without realizing it.In this episode, Mike breaks down why bookkeeping is not just administrative work. It is the foundation of smart tax planning. He explains what bookkeeping actually is, how your profit and loss statement and balance sheet affect your taxes, and why clean, accurate books help business owners make better decisions, reduce tax-season stress, and uncover more opportunities to lower their tax bill.

This week, Chris and I are sitting down together to talk about one of our favorite topics: building real, sustainable wealth without the overwhelm. If you've ever felt like you're behind, like it's too complicated, or like you just don't know where to start — this episode is for you. What We Cover: We break down the four pillars of wealth that Chris uses with his clients every single day: The Safety Pillar — Your emergency fund. This is priority number one. We talk about why three to six months of expenses matters, what that actually looks like for your life (hint: it's different for everyone), and the magic of just having enough to sleep at night. The Future Pillar — This is your retirement strategy. RRSPs, TFSAs, first home savings plans, permanent life insurance — we break down why diversification here is non-negotiable and why the tax strategy behind your withdrawals matters just as much as the saving itself. The Freedom Pillar — Our favorite one to talk about. This is where your money starts working for you — rental income, dividends, non-registered investments — the assets that buy back your time and give you options. Could you retire earlier than you think? Maybe. The Legacy Pillar — What do you want your money to do after you're gone? We get into wills, estate planning, life insurance, and charitable giving — and why taking care of yourself first is actually the most loving thing you can do for the people you leave behind. We Also Talk About: Why building wealth is honestly kind of boring (and why that's a good thing) The stats on why women tend to outperform men as long-term investors Why lottery winners go broke (and what that teaches us about money mindset) The most common wealth-building mistakes: starting too late, keeping cash under the mattress, spending your raise before you get it, not having a will, and trying to time the market Opportunity cost — why your daily latte isn't the villain, but your intention behind it matters How Chris breaks down $1,000/month across all four pillars (a simple rule of thumb you can actually use) Why your definition of financial freedom might be different from your partner's — and why that conversation is so important Questions to Ask Yourself After This Episode: Which pillar am I strongest in right now? Which pillar needs the most work? Do I have a will? Do I have life insurance? What does financial freedom actually look like for me? What's one thing I can do this month to strengthen my weakest pillar? Let's dive in! Thank you for joining us today. If you could rate, review & subscribe, it would mean the world to me! From cruise-ship chaos to boardroom clarity: how systems, not willpower, quietly run your life and business. In this episode, David and Londa jump from cruise ships and long-haul flights to COVID recovery and daily routines to uncover a single theme: your success is built on systems, not spur-of-the-moment effort. Through personal stories—missed entertainment, health scares, and a home-organization overhaul—they show how questioning narratives, taking personal responsibility, and reactivating simple systems can transform both your life and your business. Three Business Takeaways 1. Systems beat motivation. Relying on willpower is fragile; simple, repeatable systems (like Londa's “Sidetracked Home Executives” approach) create predictable results in both home and business. 2. Question the narrative. Whether it's media blame or conventional health advice, top performers pause, ask better questions, and take ownership instead of waiting for someone else to fix things. 3. Operationalize the basics. Turning everyday responsibilities into scheduled, systematized tasks (daily/weekly/monthly) frees mental bandwidth for higher‑value work and bigger opportunities. With host retail coach Wendy Batten https://wendybatten.com/podcast-intro/ Episode Overview I'm hearing from so many shop owners right now about the sheer volume of donation requests coming through their doors and inboxes. Silent auctions, raffles, sponsorships, gift cards: it can feel constant. For many of us, it brings up a mix of emotions ranging from generosity to frustration. In this episode, I'll walk you through a practical way to stay community-minded while also protecting your business. This is about setting a necessary boundary and creating a simple, intentional system. It will allow you to make donations in a way that feels aligned, without the stress or emotional weight that often comes with these requests. You'll leave with a clear approach to setting boundaries, making thoughtful decisions, and turning the right opportunities into meaningful visibility for your shop. Our Key Topics How to navigate the volume of donation requests without overwhelm What to include in a clear donation and marketing budget How to create a simple application process for requests How to filter opportunities based on alignment and fit What to consider when turning donations into visibility opportunities When and how to use systems and boundaries to reduce stress Key Takeaways for Shop Owners Set a clear budget for donations as part of your marketing plan. When you decide in advance how much you're able to give, it removes the guesswork and emotional decision-making. This helps you stay generous without overextending your business. Use a simple application process for all donation requests. A Google form or application creates consistency and professionalism. It also takes the pressure off in-the-moment decisions and allows you to review requests on your own timeline. Filter requests based on alignment, not obligation. Not every request is the right fit, and that's okay. When you choose based on your values, customer alignment, and brand, your giving feels more intentional and meaningful. Look for visibility and marketing opportunities in the right donations. The right partnerships can introduce your business to new customers. By asking for simple things like signage, email mentions, or bounce-back offers, you can extend the impact of your giving. Create boundaries to remove emotional stress. Clear policies, timelines, and responses help you avoid resentment and decision fatigue. Boundaries allow you to be both generous and a responsible steward of your business. "We can't donate to everyone, and we also can't continue to be upset with everybody that asks." -Wendy Batten I'd love to hear if this episode inspired you to come up with a donation request application. Landscaping businesses don't fall behind because of the work—they fall behind because there's no clear system behind it; in this episode, Keith Kalfas breaks down how he turned a single lead into a $19,500 job from first call to final payment, showing how to capture clients on the spot, send clean quotes that convert, collect deposits without chasing, and handle add-ons without underpricing—giving you a simple, repeatable workflow that turns chaos into consistent, profitable jobs. "The way to make the most amount of money is to sell more work to the existing clients you've already paid to acquire." – Keith Kalfas What You'll Learn in This Episode: How to capture and organize leads instantly (even from your truck) The fastest way to send quotes that actually convert Why trust matters more than overcomplicating your pricing How to collect deposits without awkward follow-ups The exact workflow from quote → job → final payment How to handle change orders without undercharging yourself Why email marketing to existing clients prints money The underrated feature that can boost your revenue (without raising prices) Key Takeaways: A simple system beats raw effort every time. Most businesses try to "work harder" to fix inconsistency, but the real fix is structure. When you have a clear flow—capture the lead, send a professional quote, secure a deposit, execute, then collect final payment—you remove friction at every step. It's not about doing more work, it's about making each step predictable so deals move forward without constant follow-up. Speed and clarity build trust (and close deals faster). The moment a lead comes in is your biggest advantage. Responding quickly, setting clear expectations, and sending a clean, easy-to-approve quote positions you as the professional. When clients understand exactly what they're getting and how to move forward, they're far more likely to say yes—and do it quickly. Control the scope or it will control your profit. Extra requests mid-project are where a lot of money quietly disappears. Instead of casually agreeing and figuring it out later, locking in changes through a clear process (like change orders) keeps everything documented, priced, and approved in real time. It protects your margins, removes awkward conversations, and keeps you in control of the job. Most organizing advice focuses on where to start or how to declutter (which we cover on this show often), but what doesn't get enough attention — and often makes the biggest difference — are the small systems that make everyday life easier to maintain. Recently I was invited to consult on an organizing project for a nonprofit in Boston, and one word kept coming up over and over again: function. Not just how things look, but how they actually work for the people using the space. It made me reflect on what we've been working toward in our own home too — creating systems that support how we actually live in this season, not just how we want things to look. In this episode I'm sharing 10 small organizing changes we've made that are reducing daily stress and making life run a little smoother. Nothing dramatic and definitely nothing perfect — just practical adjustments that are working right now. Praying you find clarity in your next steps!

Many parents assume their kids are fine—but in reality, many teens are quietly questioning, struggling, and even drifting from their faith without their parents knowing. In this episode of Calibrate Conversations, Brady Cone sits down with Peter Kupisz, an apologist and ministry leader who has worked with students and families around the world. Peter shares what he's seeing globally when it comes to faith, culture, and the growing influence of identity issues on young people—and why so many teens feel forced to choose between being “loving” and believing the Bible. He also introduces Dinner School, a simple, practical tool designed to help parents disciple their kids through short videos and guided conversations—making it easier to build a strong, thoughtful Christian worldview right at home.
Hi mama, Summer can be one of the most magical seasons when you have kids. Beach days, ice cream runs, pool time, backyard dinners, and those long evenings when the sun doesn't seem to set. But for working moms, summer also comes with a lot of logistics and planning. Between camps, sports schedules, vacations, childcare, and work responsibilities, it can feel like summer becomes another schedule to manage instead of a season to enjoy. In today's episode, I share a simple framework to help working moms plan an intentional summer so you can handle the logistics while still creating meaningful family memories. Instead of letting summer fly by in a blur, a little planning now can help your family experience a season that feels more relaxed, fun, and connected. What You'll Learn in This Episode

Send a textA shrinking market doesn't have to shrink your sales. We sit down with Canadian dealer Adam Bruno to unpack how he turned uncertainty into momentum using simple systems, steady follow-ups, and trust‑driven videos that make high‑ticket shed and cabin shells feel safe to buy—often without ever meeting the customer in person. Adam walks us through his journey from spreadsheets and crossed wires with his dad to a clean homegrown CRM and a daily rhythm that keeps quotes moving and phones ringing. We dig into the tactics that actually convert: short selfie intros, calm one‑take walk‑throughs on YouTube, and clear calls to action that push viewers to call or request a quote. Adam explains why he bypasses 3D configurators for many 40+ buyers and instead gathers details on a quick call, returning a custom quote that reflects regional realities like spray‑foam floors, dual‑pane windows, 2x6 walls, and upgraded overhead doors built for brutal winters. That local expertise becomes the edge, especially when buyers are choosing the person they trust over the logo on the brochure. You'll also hear how he trims automation to what helps—timely emails and text nudges—while keeping the human touch for late‑stage deals. Small details matter: logging travel notes in the CRM to ask “How was Mexico?” weeks later, answering calls at odd hours across time zones, and following up faster than competitors. We explore growth paths with higher‑margin add‑ons like hunting blinds, ramps, or stoves, plus the power of filming real‑world installs at lake lots and cabins to let prospects imagine themselves inside the build before they buy.If you want a practical blueprint to sell more with less chaos—especially when demand softens—this conversation gives you the moves to make now. What if the quickest way to feel calmer isn't another mindset shift… but clearing one small corner of your home? February on Chasing Brighter was all about resetting our nervous systems, resting without guilt, and reconnecting with ourselves. Now as we head into March, we're gently moving forward—starting with the space we live in every single day: our homes. In this episode, Jessica and Kelly welcome back Diana Moll, founder of D's Declutter and host of Organizing With Ease, for a grounded, realistic conversation about how clutter impacts stress, energy, and daily life—and how simple, sustainable systems can help your whole family function with more ease (without chasing Pinterest perfection). In This Episode, We Talk About Why decluttering isn't “having less”—it's making room for calm and clarity How your home can either drain your energy or help restore it The real challenge: not starting… but maintaining your systems How to stop comparing your home to “perfect” online spaces and meet yourself where you are Kid-friendly routines that actually work (and yes… the legendary “black bag” story
Why sustainable motherhood sometimes requires stepping back If you're an overwhelmed mom trying to build peaceful routines while still feeling stretched thin… this episode is an honest conversation about sustainability. Because here's the truth: You can't teach peace while running on pressure. You can't preach margin while living in burnout. And you can't build something meaningful without pausing to evaluate what's working. In this episode of Mama's Tired, I'm sharing why I'm pressing pause on the podcast for a season - and what this shift means moving forward. This isn't a goodbye. It's a “I'll see you next season.”. And if you're a busy mom feeling like something in your life needs space to breathe, this conversation will resonate deeply. In This Episode, We Talk About: Why creative work needs sustainability How burnout can hide behind productivity Recognizing when something feels misaligned The pressure moms put on themselves to “keep going” Why stepping back can be strategic — not a failure Building a life that reflects the rhythms you teach For the Mom Who Feels Stretched Thin If you've been: Ending each day exhausted Feeling behind no matter how organized you are Trying to simplify your home but still overwhelmed Carrying the invisible mental load of motherhood Wondering if you need a reset This episode offers permission. Permission to pause. Permission to reassess. Permission to build sustainability into your life — not just talk about it. The Big Reminder Peace isn't built by pushing harder. Sometimes it's built by stepping back. And sustainable motherhood requires rhythms that protect your energy — not drain it. From Chaos to Control: Simple Systems That Actually Scale with Tim Martinez Find Rocky Lalvani @ www.ProfitComesFirst.com or email him at rocky@profitcomesfirst.com If your business feels like it's growing… but also getting messier, heavier, and more dependent on you, this conversation will hit home. Rocky Lalvani sits down with Tim Martinez, a seasoned operator and advisor with 20+ years of experience helping founders, CEOs, and executive teams build companies that actually scale. Tim has worked across software, media, retail, gaming, and finance, and he's also owned, operated, invested in, and exited multiple businesses, so the insights here are practical, not theoretical. Learning Insights Why so many owners get stuck in "manageable chaos" (Tim's $3M wall observation) and what it really takes to break past a plateau How to use Profit First and Traction/EOS as flexible tools, and why adapting frameworks beats trying to follow them perfectly The difference between busy work and scalable execution (and how founders accidentally become the bottleneck) What "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" looks like in real operations and decision-making How to spot vanity spending vs. investments that actually create ROI (systems, tech, training, leadership) Why culture = what you allow (and how standards at the top shape everything downstream) How to identify performance drag: A-players, C-players, and why top performers won't stay in a low-standard environment Why time is currency, and how meetings, rework, and unclear ownership quietly destroy margin What Tim looks for when evaluating companies: profitability (EBITDA/SDE lens), customer concentration risk, and realistic growth story How to create accountability after meetings so action items don't disappear (clear owners + follow-through) Big Takeaway Scaling isn't about adding complexity, it's about removing friction. Tim's core message is that the businesses that "feel in control" don't have fewer problems; they have clearer systems, clearer ownership, and higher standards, so problems get handled without everything funneling back to the founder. When you treat time like currency, invest intentionally (not emotionally), and build accountability into execution, you stop relying on heroics—and that's when growth becomes sustainable. Bio Tim is a seasoned business operator and advisor with more than twenty years of experience helping founders, CEOs, and executive teams build companies that actually scale. His work spans operations, strategy, leadership, and growth, with hands-on experience across software, media, retail, gaming, and finance. Having owned, operated, invested in, and exited multiple businesses, Tim brings a practical, real-world perspective to building durable companies that create value for employees, customers, and communities. The goal isn't just to grow revenue—it's to build a durable company that creates value for employees, customers, and your community, while giving you more freedom and better options (including a future exit). In today's episode, I break down why attention is the engine, monetization is the transmission, and brand is the fuel that makes both go farther for less. I explain why spreading content everywhere weakens results, how to rank platforms by attention density, and why one or two primary channels outperform five distracted ones. I walk through aligning native monetization paths with where people already watch, save, share, and act, instead of promising to monetize later. I also cover the go no go plan, reducing friction inside the platform, and using rapid feedback loops to systemize what works. The focus is clarity, concentration, and building a repeatable system that compounds attention into revenue.
