We learn that our favorite captain, Picard, has a British accent all thanks to WWII. With the help of Jurati's supped up mind, she and Picard determine that the American tax day, April 15th - which is just 3 days away, is when the timeline changes. In a very clear nod to Star Trek: Voyage Home, Raffi and Seven are on a public bus with a man listening to an 80s era boombox radio. Picard used the Borg Queen's coordinates and safely arrives at 10 Forward Avenue! He runs into a very young Guinan who is not keen on talking or listening to him. Rios is detained in ICE custody. Picard convinces Guinan to help him find the Watcher. Not able to transport to Rios' detention center, Raffi and Seven decide to drive there. Rios in transported from the facility as Jurati attempts to get the Borg queen to help transport them, after a police car chase. We realize Jurati tricked the queen. You know a long time ago in college I took Latin and I learned the story of Caesar and his Crossing of the Rubicon and how just by Crossing the Rubicon it committed him and his troops and the entire fate of Rome was thereafter changed. Our main show, the live show, is recorded live every Thursday to recap the most recent edition of Trek. Right now, that includes Discovery and Picard but will include all upcoming shows. Before we get started, I want to give a brief summary of today's episode. Starfleet wants to stop book and Tarka at all costs because they have already decided to initiate first contact with species 10 C. To ensure Burnham doesn't let her relationship with Booker get the better of her, commander Nahn is back to keep a watchful eye on Discovery's crew. Nahn tells them Starfleet has decided that as a last resort they plan on blowing up Book's ship! As we know, Discovery has a trace on his ship. Burnham, Saru and Culber fill Nahn in on their plan to gain entrance onto Book's ship through a cloaked shuttle. Unbeknownst to Book, Tarka installed a new defense system and it almost kills the away team but not without help from Book, who saved them. After a brief fight, Book and Tarka manage a quick escape. They arrive near the dma and it makes their scanning and other Technologies difficult to use. Not wanting to fire on Book, Nahn and Burnham worked out a compromise that allows them to know how much time they have before the dma strikes another area of space – the current area is an unoccupied area of space. Through the help of Stamets we learn it will be another week before the dma leaves this area. Book accepts the compromise but Tarka takes matters into his own hands and launches the weapon. Tarka destroys the dma but could not find the power source connected to the controller. Saru receives in Overture from president T'Rina. Look at Saru getting busy! Colber had to remind Suru that he was being an idiot by not entertaining the request, of course. In this episode, Hugh Culber's character is resurrected via the mycelial network, reuniting the husbands. The title of the episode is Saints of Imperfection, which is derived from Guillermo del Toro's “Monsters are the patron saints of imperfection.” Also, during this episode, of supreme importance to this show is what we discover about Section 31. Let's put this in context for our new listeners, this show is about exploring the world of Section 31 and to do that effectively we need to take some time to really understand what, who, how, when, where and the why of Section 31, which includes its limitations. Tonight, I have with me my co-host Jason McCammon and William Danger. Remember, before we begin, we're more interested in what we learn about Section 31 through the lense of this episode. Act I We learn S31 is involved in the internal affairs of Starfleet Structure is now identified within Section 31 There is no longer any gray area…S31 is part of Starfleet Intelligence. S31 is no longer cloak and dagger like we saw in Enterprise and they aren't a forgotten or unknown entity like DS9. Act 2 Tyler's entrance into S31 is classified. That isn't alarming or particularly “new” however, it is the first time we've heard this. Act 3 Ashe Tyler opens communications with a nearby ship while on Discovery's bridge using a comm-badge. Another example of S31 tech Leland uses holographic tech to mask his ship as an asteroid (this is a S31 ship) Tractor beam tech Even S31 has court martials! Clearly, this is communicating a lot! They aren't unchecked. Act 4 When Admiral Cornwell enters at the end to tell Pike and Leland the Red Angel sighting left tachyon emissions, Leland emphasized the possibility of time travel.
