This week Alex and Randy go over all their recent favorites from the site, talking along the way about a heavy-breathing Fairlane, the terrible-or-terrific teals of the early '90s, a bullet-riddled Jeep, a raft of special Z-cars, and one of our favorite sellers. They take a lengthy detour into oddball induction setups before returning to the special Cunningham race car on the site, which prompts memories of Alex's traumatic childhood visit to The Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum.Next, assumed clone status; missing a Rallye in Tahoe; a brief review of '80s box flares, followed by an about-face to perhaps the curviest car ever made; a solid parking lot scene on taco night; fulfilling a 60-year dream for Alex's dad; a visit to Charlie Goodman's place; Randy's upcoming pod episode with Rob Fisher ahead of our appearance at the Hillsborough Concours, the longest-running event of its kind in California; our July gathering at the Rose Cup at PIR (also the location of the first-ever BaT event); and this summer's BaT sponsorship of the vintage weekend festivities in Elkhart Lake.Follow along! Jen takes us back to 1920s America and the story of Henry Ford, anti-Semitic propagandist, Hitler fan, and all-round moral crusader who decided that owning the world's car industry wasn't enough. His next project? Buying 2.5 million acres of the Amazon rainforest to build a rubber empire and implant a wholesome, alcohol-free, jazz-free, union-free Midwestern town in the middle of one of the most hostile environments on Earth. The Soph brings the misery with a story from July 1999. Best friends David and Raffi set off on a road trip from Boston to California. A detour into Rattlesnake Canyon in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, with one and a half litres of water between them, goes catastrophically wrong. Hosted on Acast. In this episode Rosie Moss speaks with widower, writer, coach and devoted girl dad Danny Lesslie.Danny shares the extraordinary love story he built with his wife Rafaela, known to everyone who loved her as Raffi. They met on the bluffs of Santa Monica, fell hard, built a family together and chose each other every day. But when Raffi was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive squamous cell carcinoma at just 30 years old, everything changed. What followed was five years of treatment, uncertainty, heartbreak and anticipatory grief. As the cancer spread, Danny and Raffi faced not only the reality of her illness but a cascade of secondary losses including financial pressure, housing instability, job loss and the exhausting reality of navigating a healthcare system that often seemed unable to help.In this deeply moving conversation, Danny reflects on caring for Raffi through her illness, raising their daughters through grief, and the faith that carried them when every sense of control had disappeared. He shares the remarkable moments of provision that became known in their family as “Jesus moments”, the decision to be completely honest with their children throughout Raffi's illness, and the legacy she left behind through her journals, which became the foundation of their book, Thank You, Cancer. This is a conversation about great love, devastating loss, family, faith, fatherhood and the complicated work of learning how to hold gratitude and grief in the same hand.A beautiful and profoundly honest episode about what it means to keep choosing life after the person you love most is gone.

In this episode of Reading With Your Kids, Jed welcomes back legendary children's singer, songwriter, and author Raffi to celebrate his new picture book "Mama Loves It." The book is based on a song Raffi recorded with Canadian trio The Good Lovelies, all about kids pitching in with household chores. Through joyful lyrics and warm illustrations, it encourages children to see chores not as burdens, but as chances to help their families and feel like part of a team. Raffi talks about his long creative journey—over 50 years of making music for children—and what keeps him energized: the pure magic of songwriting and the knowledge that millions of fans are waiting for new music. His upcoming album centers on the power of love, which he describes as the most powerful, infinite energy we know—something the world needs more of, especially in turbulent times. He reflects on his audience of "Beluga Grads"—the adults who grew up with his music and now share it with their own kids—and the joy of performing for children who come ready to sing, laugh, and enjoy his famously silly jokes. Raffi also shares his Child Honouring philosophy and the work of the Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring, which promotes principles like respect, nonviolence, and emotional intelligence, especially in the early years of life. In the final segment, Jed chats briefly with Dr. Rekha Rajan about her lively picture book "Can You Dance Like A Peacock?", which invites kids and families to move, dance, and learn animal facts together, blending STEM learning with the arts and joyful, interactive reading.

The Communicate & Connect Podcast for Military Relationships
Have you ever felt like you and your partner are speaking two completely different languages? You're trying so hard to explain your side, but the more you talk, the further apart you feel. It's incredibly lonely to feel unheard by the person who matters most to you. In this episode, I'm joined by Raffi Bilek, couples counselor and author of The Communication Book, to talk about why we get "stuck" in these cycles and how to finally start hearing each other again. We talk about: How to use "I" statements to stay the main character of your own story (without blaming). Why "Empathy" doesn't have to mean "Agreement." The "Drunk Brain" analogy—why you shouldn't try to resolve things when you're emotionally flooded. >>>Make sure to like, review, and subscribe to get all the future episodes and help the podcast be found by others who would benefit the most. What happens when one of Silicon Valley's most accomplished engineers decides the system he helped build is broken—and walks away to fix it? Today my guest is Raffi Krikorian, CTO of Mozilla and one of the most civic-minded technologists I know. We explore why the fight for open-source AI isn't just a technical debate; it is really a fight for who controls our relationship with knowledge itself. Raffi's career path is uniquely fascinating. He spent his early years scaling massive engineering teams at Twitter and launching Uber's first self-driving fleet. But then he did something rare. He pivoted to public service, becoming the first-ever CTO of the Democratic National Committee to rebuild their cybersecurity from the ground up. He then went on to drive social-impact technology at Emerson Collective, applying his engineering mind to systemic issues like immigration and climate change. At Mozilla, he is now on the frontlines of the AI revolution. We talk about what it means to be "technically optimistic" right now—which also happens to be the name of his excellent podcast. For Raffi, optimism isn't about blind faith in algorithms. It's about demanding that our tools are trustworthy, transparent, and built to serve humanity, rather than exploiting it. In our conversation, we explore: → The Twitter crash that taught him his job was not to be the architect, but to create the conditions for others to do their best work → Why he left Uber's self-driving program after discovering their models misclassified people based on skin color → How a week of Google Sheets transformed an asylum-seeker nonprofit more than any AI chatbot could → His conviction that we need seven billion AGIs—one for each of us—not seven controlled by massive corporations → Why patience, not speed, is the leadership skill that actually builds movements "We have outsourced dreaming to a few people who are building companies and we all need to dream again." — Raffi Krikorian, CTO, Mozilla If you have ever wondered whether the technology on your phone is truly working for you—or for someone else—this conversation will completely change how you think about what comes next.

Latin Grammy–nominated musician and debut picture book author Sonia de los Santos joins Jed to talk about birds, borders, and the magic of bilingual stories. Sonia shares the inspiration behind her new picture book La Golondrina, based on her song of the same name. The story follows a young girl who becomes fascinated with swallow birds while visiting her grandmother, and slowly begins to see her own migration story reflected in their long journeys. Sonia connects this to her real life, growing up in Monterrey, Mexico, then moving to the New York City area to pursue musical theater, eventually finding her calling making music for children and families. She and Jed swap bird stories (including a backyard turkey named Stella), talk about performing in less‑than‑glamorous multipurpose rooms, and celebrate the joy of seeing every child's face during school concerts. Sonia explains how her music evolved into books, how it feels to let an illustrator "finish" her story visually, and why she's committed to creating bilingual, welcoming spaces where all kids and families feel seen. They dive into big themes—migration, identity, empathy, and the courage to speak a second language (and make mistakes out loud!). Sonia also teases that La Golondrina is the first in a three‑book series, "Books That Sing / Libros que cantan", complete with lyrics, chords, and a QR code so families can read and sing together. Plus, we take a listen back to a conversation we had with children's music legend Raffi during his tour to promote his Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times project and his lifelong commitment to honoring and respecting children.

For decades, women with ADHD have been told they're "just anxious," "just depressed," or "just stressed." Meanwhile, their physical symptoms - heavy periods, migraines, gut issues, dizziness when standing - have been dismissed as separate problems. They're not. They're all connected.Dr. Asad Raffi has assessed thousands of ADHD women and discovered something revolutionary: ADHD is a brain-body condition. The female presentation doesn't even resemble what's in the diagnostic manuals. So how is a clinician using a checklist going to diagnose any woman? They can't. And they haven't.In this raw and honest conversation, Dr. Asad explains why 50%+ of women sitting in GP waiting rooms could actually have undiagnosed ADHD, why the medical system has failed women for so long, and what actually needs to change. We explore the micro-fractures of accumulated trauma, why ADHD can look like complex PTSD, the "whole heap of shit" happening beneath the surface that single-lens diagnosis misses, and the critical importance of understanding hormones, inflammation, and the brain-body connection. And in the most moving moment of the interview, when asked what he said to his teenage daughter when she got diagnosed with ADHD, his answer was simple:"Welcome to the club."This conversation will change how you see ADHD, your body, and yourself.IN THIS EPISODE:✨ Why physical symptoms are the primary indicator of ADHD in women✨ The connection between hormones, inflammation, and brain health✨ Why women have been chronically misdiagnosed for decades✨ ADHD vs complex PTSD - understanding micro-fractures and accumulated trauma✨ Why looking at ADHD from a singular lens will always get it wrong✨ The importance of community, connection, and reaching out✨ What he told his daughter when she was diagnosedDr. Asad Raffi is a leading consultant psychiatrist, founder of Sanctum Healthcare, and father of three girls. His mission was born from his daughter's ADHD diagnosis - and he's determined that no woman is left misunderstood.
In this episode, Phil Argent shares his journey as a dyslexic entrepreneur, exploring how neurodiversity shapes innovative thinking, decision-making, and building global systems. Discover insights on system thinking, leveraging AI, and embracing your unique talents to achieve big goals.TakeawaysThe "Engine" Analogy: Phil views businesses and digital ecosystems as engines. His strength lies in taking them apart, understanding every component, and rebuilding them for peak optimization.Intellectual Off-Switch: A common trait discussed is the "instant-on" brain. Phil and Stephen talk about the challenge of waking up at 100% capacity, often in the middle of the night, and how to harness that energy rather than fight it.Trust and Speed at Virgin: Phil reflects on the "Virgin DNA"—a culture of absolute trust and rapid execution. He highlights how Richard Branson's leadership style empowered neurodivergent thinkers to move at a "relentless pace" without overthinking decisions. The "Parking Lot" Strategy: To combat the "Shiny Object Syndrome" common among dyslexic entrepreneurs, Phil and Stephen discuss the importance of framing ambitions bigger. If you feel distracted, re-evaluate your goal—a big enough ambition requires discipline and keeps you focused on the long-term system rather than short-term pivots. The Power of AI (Raffi & Pip): Both guest and host reveal they use custom AI assistants (Phil's "Raffi" and Stephen's "Pip") to interrogate their thinking, organize tasks, and execute at a speed that would otherwise require a massive team.Dyslexia, Neurodiversity, Entrepreneurship, System Thinking, AI, Innovation, Personal Growth, Business Strategy, ADHD, adults with dyslexia, support for adults.Join the clubrightbrainresetters.comGet 20% off your first orderaddednutrition.comIf you want to find out more visit:truthaboutdyslexia.comJoin our Facebook Groupfacebook.com/groups/adultdyslexia

Healthy relationships are not accidental; they are built on the foundational belief that we carry a personal responsibility to be our best selves. To keep a relationship thriving, we must develop the emotional vocabulary to process our discomfort. Real talk in partnership communications can help us translate our internal world to our partners, thereby boosting their understanding of what we are trying to convey. For communication tips for how to keep a relationship thriving, Harvesting Happiness Podcast Host Lisa Cypers Kamen speaks with Raffi Bilek, a licensed clinical social worker who helps couples hone their communication skills. Raffi breaks down four essential communication skills for couples, offering a roadmap for fighting fair and using real talk in partnership communication to become better partners. By clearing the path to simple, straightforward conversation, he challenges conventional wisdom with a liberating truth: it's actually okay to go to bed angry. Like what you're hearing? On this episode of Perpetual mOetion with Dr. mOe Anderson, couples communication expert Raffi Bilek, LCSWC, joins the show to unpack how modern digital life is reshaping — and often straining — our closest relationships. Raffi, author of The Couple's Communication Handbook, explains why in-person connection matters, how social media and texting create tone-deaf misunderstandings, and why difficult conversations rarely go well over screens. Sound Bites "Social media can distort real-life relationships." "Texting is not suitable for deep conversations." "Going to bed angry can sometimes be beneficial." Topics covered include the common communication traps of digital life (tone misreads, avoidance, comparison), the harmful effects of trying to resolve deep issues by text or quick video, and the cultural myth that you must never go to bed angry. Raffi and Dr. mOe discuss why postponing a heated conversation can be healthier, and when returning to the discussion later produces real progress. The episode reframes conflict from breakdown to opportunity: with the right tools, everyday friction can deepen intimacy, build trust, and create lasting teamwork. Rafi also outlines the most common reasons couples seek counseling — chronic communication problems, infidelity, neurodiversity, and life stressors — and how coaching or therapy can guide repair and growth. Listeners can expect concrete, actionable guidance: when to delay a conversation, how to de-escalate, how to listen to understand (not to rebut), and simple exercises to practice connection. This special episode comes directly from an inspiring day at the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) in Toronto, where the global launch of the Smart Start program was celebrated through a landmark symposium titled Music and the Mind: A Smart Start to Early Childhood Education. The event focused on the transformative role of music in early childhood learning and development. Educators, researchers, policymakers, and arts advocates gathered in Koerner Hall in Toronto to explore how music influences the developing brain, supports emotional and social growth, and enhances early learning well beyond songs and rhythm. The symposium also examined the evolving role of technology and artificial intelligence in education and creativity. Smart Start is the Royal Conservatory of Music's early childhood music program, designed for young learners at the very beginning of their musical journey. Grounded in research on child development and learning science, the program uses play-based, developmentally appropriate activities to nurture musical skills alongside cognitive, social, and emotional growth. Smart Start is about more than learning music—it supports whole-child development through music. For more background on how the program was developed, listen to the previous episode featuring Alexander Brose, President & CEO of The Royal Conservatory of Music: https://www.theartandscienceoflearning.com/blogsidebysidee/124-music-amp-neuroscience-the-royal-conservatory-of-musics-innovative-approach-to-early-childhood-education-alexander-brose The day opened with a powerful keynote from Renée Fleming, celebrated soprano and author of Music and Mind, who spoke about the impact of music and music therapy on health and wellbeing. She invited the audience to sing together in harmony—setting the tone for a day centered on connection, research, and shared experience. Alexander Brose, President & CEO of The Royal Conservatory of Music, welcomed attendees and shared the story behind Smart Start's creation and development. Throughout the day, internationally recognized voices from across disciplines contributed to panels and discussions on music, neuroscience, education, creativity, and innovation. Speakers and panelists included Evan Solomon, Canada's Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Raffi, the beloved children's singer-songwriter, Steve Paikin, the award-winning journalist, Eric Radford, Olympic figure skater and composer, and many more. The symposium also featured hands-on learning experiences led by Catherine West, pedagogy leader and early childhood education specialist, allowing participants to experience Smart Start exactly as children would in a learning environment. This episode brings the symposium to life through three in-depth interviews with key speakers: • Dr. Indre Viskontas – Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of San Francisco, musician, and host of the Inquiring Minds podcast, discussing the neuroscience of music and learning • Kevin Chan – Senior Director at META, exploring the connections between creativity, technology, AI, and education • Dr. Sean Hutchins – Director of Research at The Royal Conservatory of Music and co-developer of the Smart Start curriculum, unpacking the research and educational thinking behind the program Together, these conversations offer a rich picture of why Smart Start matters and how early, play-based music education can help develop cognitive skills, emotional regulation, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, setting children up to become lifelong learners. In this powerful and joy‑filled episode, we sit down with humanitarian, author, and CNN Hero Maggie Doyne for a conversation that left us inspired, grounded, and buzzing with gratitude. Maggie, co‑founder and CEO of the BlinkNow Foundation and subject of the documentary “Between the Mountain and the Sky,” joins us from California during a rare stateside visit. What unfolds is an intimate, honest, and often hilarious exchange about purpose, service, motherhood, grief, art, and the beautiful messiness of being human.Maggie shares the origin story of her life's work in Nepal, beginning with a gap year, a chance encounter with children breaking rocks for survival, and the babysitting money that became the seed for a school, a home, and a community that has now transformed countless lives. She reflects on two decades of building the Kopila Valley community, raising children, navigating unimaginable loss, and learning to lead with heart, humility, and hope.We explore the role of art and storytelling in healing, the decade‑long process of filming her documentary, and the vulnerability of letting the world witness both the triumphs and the raw, unfiltered moments of her journey. Maggie talks about the surprising reactions she's received from audiences, the importance of showing real women in real bodies, and why authenticity matters more than polish. The conversation also touches on self‑care in a world that often turns it into another metric of success. Maggie offers a refreshingly grounded perspective on tending to the basics: medical checkups, community, breath, movement, and the small daily practices that keep us tethered. She shares the voices and music that have supported her through dark seasons, from Raffi to Sarah Blondin, and the rituals that anchor her family. As always, we close with our signature playlist picks, inspired by Maggie's light, courage, and the emotional landscape of her story. Expect sunshine, resilience, childhood joy, and a few nostalgic gems. This episode is equal parts heart‑opening and energizing. A few years ago, industry and political leaders embraced hydrogen as a solution to a laundry list of hard-to-abate decarbonization challenges — steel production, ammonia production, and more. But hydrogen failed to come down in costs and policymakers pulled back support. Ultimately, the bubble burst. So what does it take to drive down the costs of low-carbon hydrogen and rebuild momentum? In this episode, Shayle talks to Raffi Garabedian, co-founder and CEO of Electric Hydrogen. (Shayle is on the board of Electric Hydrogen and Energy Impact Partners, where Shayle is a partner, invests in the company). Shayle and Raffi cover topics like: Why the hype bubble burst: political pullback, high renewables costs driven by AI demand, and high CapEx The real cost problem: Why engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) costs have remained persistently high Competing approaches: Why Electric Hydrogen chose supersized electrolyzers over modular units The China question: Why hydrogen's EPC costs will limit the impact of cheap Chinese electrolyzers Real numbers: Realistic cost targets for fossil parity and Electric Hydrogen's current pricing Where hydrogen wins: Markets where Raffi says green hydrogen can achieve fossil parity by the early 2030s, including Brazilian fertilizer Resources: Latitude Media: is 45v guidance killing green hydrogen production? The Green Blueprint: Electric Hydrogen's bet on supersized electrolyzers Latitude Media: Electric Hydrogen is building through the market downturn Latitude Media: Hydrogen's narrow pathway to positive climate impacts Latitude Media: Why the Electric Hydrogen-Ambient merger is a sign of things to come Fill out our short podcast listener survey for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.
