How many times have we talked about an episode from the Paramount+ era of Star Trek in which Ryan says "This is one of my least favorite moments in nuTrek?" Is it just bad luck, or are there just too many of those moments? Anyway, Ryan and Brady talk about the episode of Picard where Seven and Raffi have a really long fight in a parking lot. Look, we promise, there's no more new Star Trek on the schedule for a while after this. We're trying, people! We've got some primo DS9s coming up, some original series... it's gonna be great.
Miscommunication isn't fate—it's fixable. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, marriage counselor Raffi Bilek, author of The Couples Communication Handbook, breaks down why most fights spiral (fight-or-flight, solving too soon) and how to replace them with a clear, repeatable process. We cover the two-conversation framework (explore first, solve second), listening that lands (reflect, don't rebut), using humor without harm, and building a reliable repair system so conflict doesn't erode the relationship. Direct, practical, and immediately usable for couples, therapists, and anyone who wants fewer blowups and more connection. About the guest : Raffi Bilek is a marriage counselor and author of The Couples Communication Handbook: The Skills You Never Learned for the Marriage You Always Wanted. He helps couples move from reactivity to repair with simple, teachable skills grounded in real-life practice. Key takeaways : Don't fix in the fire: pause when activated; come back when you're regulated. Run two conversations: first explore the problem (what's under it—respect, autonomy, feeling unseen); then solve it. Listening ≠ agreement: reflect back what you heard; postpone rebuttal and solutions. Make safety explicit: agree on no judgment / no interruptions / no instant fixes while exploring. Humor connects only when it's not at your partner's expense; don't use jokes to deflect hard truths. Expect work: great relationships aren't conflict-free; they have a reliable repair system. Name emotions directly; increase self-awareness (introspection, therapy, journaling) so your partner can understand you. If one partner won't invest, depth stalls—decide to accept the status quo, re-contract the relationship, or seek change together. Household fights are usually symbols; get curious about the meaning, not just the dishes. Small weekly practice: one explore-only talk (15–20 min); solutions scheduled later. Connect with the guest Website (book + contact): https://www.thecommunicationbook.com/Download first two chapters free; contact Raffi for questions or consults. This week on Page 7 MJ and Jackie start things off by wonderin' if Jimmy Buffett was singin' 'bout a snuff film star, with a song NOT dedicated to the ill Ed Larson, and MJ wishes that Raffi has had a lot of romantic pleasure in his life. Then it's time to flip over to Benson Boone asking people to stop being mean to him for his birthday which predicably backfired, TSwift announcing her new album "The Life of A Showgirl" on the Kelce bro's podcast "New Heights", and Jackie snitches on MJ to Holden about their lack of TSwift worship. The Jonas Brothers are back on tour and ask for ants on a log in their rider because they're stuck as children, and speaking of the Jonas family, Sophie Turner went to see Oasis and everyone's askin' her where ya kids at!?, because no one has ever heard of a sitter. "K-pop Demon Hunters" has totally dominated the summer, Chappell Roan dropped a new track, and Mariah Carey apparently had no idea that Katy Perry went to space! The Goop book continues to ruin Jackie and MJ's lives, and Heather Gay from "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" said Kelly Clarkson's album with "SINCE U BEEN GONE" on it helped HER get through her divorce. A list that's giving "The Big Book of British Smiles", then it's onto the Blindzz, next we got a meatpowder Jackie's Snackies from 1:10:21.545 (with an MJ's Minute Munchies at 1:18:00.577) til 1:22:07.800, and even more on this week's episode! Dave Sobel interviews Raffi Jamgotchian, founder and CEO of Triada Networks, about the current landscape of AI adoption in the financial services sector, particularly among small to medium-sized investment firms. Jamgotchian notes that while some clients are eager to embrace AI, others remain hesitant, mirroring trends seen with cloud technology. For those leaning into AI, Triada Networks is focusing on proof of concepts, helping clients structure their data effectively to leverage AI tools, especially in data analytics and research.Regulatory considerations play a significant role in how firms approach AI implementation. Many of Jamgotchian's clients operate in regulated environments, which affects their choice of data models and the types of large language models (LLMs) they can use. The challenge lies in handling sensitive, non-public information without risking regulatory violations. As firms navigate these complexities, the importance of data preparation becomes evident, with varying levels of readiness among clients impacting their ability to utilize AI effectively.Cybersecurity is a critical aspect of the conversation around AI and data management. Jamgotchian highlights that clients are increasingly proactive in seeking guidance on cybersecurity implications related to their business decisions. This shift is attributed to a combination of heightened regulatory scrutiny and a growing awareness of cybersecurity risks in the market. The conversation has evolved from being initiated by service providers to clients actively engaging in discussions about their cybersecurity needs.Looking ahead, Jamgotchian emphasizes the importance of monitoring regulatory developments, particularly from organizations like FINRA and the FCC, as they relate to AI. He anticipates that AI-related lawsuits will emerge, prompting changes in laws that could impact managed service providers (MSPs). The conversation concludes with a recognition that while the MSP landscape is evolving, the core mission of solving business problems through technology remains unchanged, and those who adapt will thrive in the future. Anika and Liz let their hair down, and as it tumbles over their shoulders in perfect beach waves identical to the hair of every other woman on television in the 2020s, they return to their discussion of hair and hair styling in Star Trek... Liz has a theory about why Janeway's early hair was … like that. And we're sorry, but it does involve Margaret Thatcher and Madeleine Albright Enterprise: the end of the torturous updo WASP beauty standards, "professionalism" and Michael Burnham The Romulans of season 1 of Picard (yes, Anika is going to wax lyrical about the Romulannisters, and you WILL like it) Every single woman in season 3 of Star Trek: Picard except Raffi has American Girl Doll Samantha hair (Anika will explain American Girl Dolls and Samantha) (Una and Batel have The Hair too) Tasha's hair did not necessarily signify queerness in the 1980s, but Ortegas's hair absolutely does today, and so it's weird that they don't … you know … We actually don't have much to say about Pike's hair, save that it looks … sticky

In this enlightening conversation, we explore: Why breaking free from "default programming" is essential for creating a life you won't regret How to identify your unique "superpowers" and leverage them for greater career fulfillment The critical transition from an achievement mindset to a contentment mindset without losing your ambition Why making counterintuitive life choices—like moving next door to your best friends—can lead to deeper happiness than following the traditional script

But it's also incredibly important for parents to read this too. First to better support those that we love as they enter their next phase of life, and second, we need to do the exercises ourselves because it's never too late to take a refresher course on, or maybe learn for the first time “how to be an adult”Buy the book!Support the showKeep up with all things WeSTAT on any (or ALL) of the social feeds:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/westatpod/Threads: https://www.threads.net/@westatpodFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/westatpod/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/westatpod/Twitter: https://x.com/WeSTATpodHave a topic or want to stay in touch via e-mail on all upcoming news?https://www.westatpod.com/Help monetarily support the podcast by subscribing to the show! When Raffi Garabedian co-founded Electric Hydrogen in 2020, he saw existing electrolyzers as too small and expensive to make green hydrogen economically viable. Instead of building standard sub-megawatt units, his team aimed for 100-megawatt systems at half the industry cost. Initial market enthusiasm brought millions in capacity reservations, fueling construction of a Massachusetts manufacturing plant. Then came the "trough of disillusionment" – a global cooling on hydrogen as projects faltered under high costs. In this episode, Lara Pierpoint talks to Raffi about taking big technology risks while building a factory during market volatility. He explains why startups, not incumbents, are best positioned to drive the cost reductions needed to make green hydrogen competitive with fossil alternatives. Credits: Hosted by Lara Pierpoint. I didn't understand why my husband treated my kids differently than his, and I was constantly frustrated that his kids got away with things mine never would. Nacho Kids Academy completely changed my perspective. Instead of comparing, I started focusing on what I could control—my own parenting and my relationship with my husband.
