Kia ora,Welcome to Monday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news that despite the Trump-generated spectacle of intimidation and violence in Los Angeles against immigrant communities, the economic news has been contained. This coming week is not a big one for local data releases, but in Australia we will get updated surveys of both consumer (Westpac/MI), and business (NAB) sentiment surveys. Not a lot of change is expected in either. There will be a June update of American consumer sentiment from the widely watched University of Michigan. And we will get CPI updates for May from both the US (expect a small rise to 2.5% (and China (expect slightly deeper deflation at -.2%). India will also release May CPI data (expect little change). The Chinese will also release export and import data. Japan will update its machine tool order data. And Germany will release some wholesale price data too.Over the weekend, and in something of a relief, the US May non-farm payrolls growth came in at +139,000, little different to the expected +130,000 and only a minor retreat from the +147,000 growth in April. But that is a bit below the average for 2024 and well below the average for 2023, and the lowest expansion for a May since 2020. In data not seasonally adjusted, it was the lowest since 2016. The US labour market seems to be plateauing after a rather strong recovery in the prior four years.Average US weekly earnings rose +3.9% in May from the same month a year ago, similar to earlier 2025 months and the same as the average for a May over the past ten years. The jobless rate was unchanged at 4.2%.But hiring freezes and production cutbacks seem to be the themes coming out of corporate America. The landscape for reshoring isn't good, apparently. And the data is becoming clearer that foreigners are avoiding the US as a travel destination, and not just Canadians, with anti-American sentiment on the rise in Europe too. Companies like Airbnb, Booking.com and Expedia all said that their financial results will be weaker than expected because of the softening demand.Total US consumer credit rose by +US$18 bln in April or +4.3%, up from a +$10 bln increase in March and better than expected. So this expansion, while modest, is back to a 'normal' pace. Revolving credit (credit cards) increased at an annual rate of +7%, while nonrevolving credit (car loans and similar) rose at a letter 3.3% rate. There was May Canadian labour market data out over the weekend too. Somewhat surprisingly, that delivered an expansion of +8,800 jobs when a -15,000 reduction was anticipated. Even better, +57,700 new full-time jobs were added in May balanced by a reduction of -48,800 part-time jobs. So, overall a rather surprising net gain. However, their jobless rate rose to 7%, the first time it has hit that level since 2016 (apart from the pandemic), so that probably raises the chance of a rate cut at their next review at the end of July.In Japan, the level of central bank bond buying tapering continues to raise concerns and undermine demand by other potential investors. It is also raising questions about the value of the yen. There is elevated debate about the right level from here and the central bank may have to slow its tapering operation. The void their tapering is leaving is not being filled by the private sector. And that could seriously twist Japanese interest rates.Late on Friday, the Indian central bank cut its policy rate again, with an outsized -50 bps cut to 5.5% when a -25 bps trim was expected. That makes it a full -100 bps reduction since February. They say the outsized move was required by the combination of fast- easing inflation and ongoing uncertainty surrounding global trade tensions. The Russian central bank also surprised with a rate cut when one wasn't expected. It cut -100 bps to 20% under Kremlin pressure, and claiming that "inflation is under control".EU retail sales for April came in surprisingly strong. They report these on a volume basis and were +2.8% higher than in April 2024. Only a +1.4% expansion was expected, and the March expansion was +1.9%. So a great result for them. Most other countries are not getting inflation-adjusted retail growth anything like this.Today is a public holiday in Australia, so our markets will be quiet.Meanwhile, both sides seem to be gearing up for trade talks between China and the US - in London. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.51%, and unchanged from Saturday, up +9 bps for the week. The price of gold will start today at US$3,308/oz, and down -US$10 from Saturday. That is up +US$24 from US$3294/oz a week ago.American oil prices are holding at just on US$64.50/bbl while the international Brent price is still the same at just on US$66.50/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at 60.2 USc, and unchanged from Saturday at this time. Against the Aussie we are also unchanged at 92.7 AUc. Against the euro we are still at 52.8 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just on 68.2 and unchanged from Saturday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$106,270 and up +1.5% from Saturday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been low at just under +/-0.6%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.

This week on Inside the Economy, we address consumer attitudes and market trends, specifically considering the S&P 500 entering correction territory. Revolving consumer credit as a percentage of disposable personal income is hovering around 6%, which has historically been considered a healthy level. Mortgage debt as a percentage of GDP continues to stay on track. What is the current level of foreclosures in the housing market compared to 2008? Are trends in auto delinquencies showing signs of concern? The S&P 500 has reached correction territory but may have also entered oversold territory. Could the correction be a sign of trouble, or simply volatility? Looking at the timeframe from election day to now, treasuries are now beating stocks. How might future Federal Reserve meetings impact treasuries? Tune in to learn more! Key Takeaways: • U.S. Core CPI at 3.1 (YOY) • 30-year Mortgage rate at 6.65% • S&P 500 1-year return of 10%

Kia ora,Welcome to Monday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news it doesn't look like our trading partners are going to be that helpful getting us out of recession. This week we will be watching for the Selected Prices inflation indications on Friday. And financial markets will be doing their final jostling for the following week's set of monetary policy decisions, first from the RBA on the Tuesday of that week, and the RBNZ the next day. But this coming week the US will release its CPI and PPI reports, and the Fed will face a partisan Congress to explain the Monetary Policy Report they released over this past weekend. India will release updated inflation data, and the EU its Q4 GDP growth result. And this week a set of sentiment surveys will be released in Australia.Over this weekend there were some major releases from the US.First, the Fed released its semi-annual Monetary Policy Report. Although it got almost no wider media coverage, it does point to some very interesting stresses they are going to have to work their way through. And they are issues that could have global consequences. While they see banks having 'ample' liquidity at present (previously they saw 'abundant' levels, so a shift), in fact as a proportion of their economy it is historically low. If banks have low liquidity, that puts the Fed in a tough spot if it want to keep shrinking its balance sheet. The Fed's 'normalisation' is an economic tightening process that only works without consequences if the banking system has excess liquidity. When that shrinks, as it seems it is, then overall low liquidity could jerk benchmark interest rates higher. Something will give, and the Fed may have to stop its QT process. Announcing that is a big market signal and this MPR suggests it is close.Secondly, total US consumer credit surged by almost +US$41 bln in December, far exceeding the forecasted +US$$12 bln. In fact it was the largest increase in the history of this metric. Revolving credit, which includes credit cards and personal lines of credit, jumped by +US$23 bln. Meanwhile, non-revolving credit, which covers car loans and student debt, increased by +US$18 bln. The overall +2.4% year-on-year rise suggests consumers are only modestly taking on more debt however, similar to inflation's rise. Third, US January non-farm payrolls growth came in less that expected, up +144,000 when the average of market estimates was +170,000. In 2024 that would have been regarded as a "big miss'.The data collectors said that wildfires in LA and severe winter weather in other parts of the country, had “no discernible effect” on employment in the month.Their jobless rate ticked down to 4.0% and average weekly earnings rose +4.2% from a year ago, so overall a mixed picture. And fourth, the University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey for February fell from January and quite sharply. It's the second straight month of retreat and is now its lowest reading since July 2024. Both the 'conditions' and 'expectations' measures fell. There was also a large slide in buying conditions for durables, in part due to a perception that it may be too late to avoid the negative impact of their tariff policy. In addition, inflation expectations for the year ahead soared to 4.3%, the highest since November 2023, from 3.3%. This is only the fifth time in 14 years we have seen such a large one-month rise in year-ahead inflation expectations. Many consumers appear worried that high inflation will return within the next year. Not only is this measure of sentiment down in February from January (-4.6%), it is down even more sharply from February a year ago (-12%).And it is not going to get better. Trump is signaling 'reciprocal tariffs' on many countries, also expected to raise costs for Americans. It will be a major international escalation. No indication here on how that will affect New Zealand that basically doesn't have any tariffs with anyone. (In his alternate reality, he may just invent that we have some, of course.)An uncertain and fearful American middle class may have a much bigger impact on the global economy than even their new public policy direction. Of course the two are related.North of the border, Canada turned in a very strong jobs report again, it's second consecutive big gain. +76,000 new jobs were added in January, far higher than the +25,000 expected. Their jobless rate fell to 6.6%. Of course, this too is much more uncertain when looking ahead, for the same US-based reasons. As the New Zealand dairy industry knows, Canada has an [illegal] trade protection scheme operating for its dairy industry, a system of "supply management". Their industry leaders "don't think it [is] being threatened" in the current stoush with the US.And while we are reporting about dairy, we should note that American milk consumption rose +3.2% in 2024 while artificial 'plant milk' consumption fell -5.9% in the year. (Source.) That happening at a time when US milk production is steady (+0.7%) will no doubt create some interesting market supply stresses. But these signals may turn that around in the next season. The cost of feed for the mostly barn-housed industry will be the main indicator of how enthusiastic the response will be.Japan is reporting that household spending jumped in December and by very much more than anticipated. It was up +2.7% in December from November when only a +0.5% rise was anticipated. That large monthly shift now means that the year-on-year rise is +2.3%. If Japanese consumers are opening their wallets, it is both a sign that sentiment is rising, and it will be some counterbalance to the US ructions and the Chinese slowdown. We should not forget that Japan is the world's fourth largest economy, larger than India. It is similarly important for New Zealand exports.India cut its policy rate by -25 bps to 6.25%, its first cut since April 2020. Their forecasts indicate rising growth and falling inflation. Although that will be what PM Modi wants to hear, they may be 'brave' forecasts. But they are juicing up the stimulus, with this rate cut part of a two-part action to compliment last week's income tax cuts.In China, their January CPI inflation is meandering close to zero, although it picked up to +0.5% from a year ago in this latest update, and that was because of the +0.7% rise in the month from December. So perhaps they have avoided deflation - in this official data at least. But beef prices were little changed month-on-month but down -13% from a year ago. Lamb priced were up marginally, to be -5.6% lower than a year ago. Their milk prices fell rather sharply in January, taking the annual dip to -1.7%. China's producer prices remained disinflationary, down -2.3% year-on-year.China said its official reserves rose marginally in January, now at US$3.2 tln. US$769 bln of that is US Treasury debt, and falling (Nov-24). (Those holdings may now be lower than those the UK holds in US Treasuries.)Global world food prices were little-changed in January and are still running lower than a year ago. There was a small dip in sheepmeat prices, a rise in beef prices, and big rise in dairy prices. In fact dairy prices are now at two year highs, but are still -10% lower than when they peaked in June 2022.The UST 10yr yield is at 4.50%, up +5 bps from Saturday at this time. The price of gold will start today at US$2860/oz and little-changed from Saturday. But this is up +US$50/oz from a week ago. In between, gold hit its record high of US$2883/oz. Also note, China is now allowing its insurers to 'invest in gold'.Oil prices are little-changed at just on US$71/bbl in the US and the international Brent price is still at US$74.50/bbl. But these levels are -US$1.50 lower than week-ago levels. The Kiwi dollar is now at 56.6 USc and up +10 bps from this time Saturday. Against the Aussie we are unchanged at 90.2 AUc. Against the euro we are also unchanged at just under 54.8 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today just on 66.9, and the same as on Saturday, down -30 bps from a week ago.The bitcoin price starts today at US$96,463 and a minor -0.3% slip from this time Saturday. And it is -6.8% lower than this time last week. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been low at +/- 0.8%. And we should note that El Salvador has ended its experiment where bitcoin was legal tender. It isn't anymore. You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. The Manor In The Woods By FenellaAshworth. Listen to the Podcast at Steamy Stories. The landscape was almost entirely white now and dusk was starting to descend with surprising haste. As they walked, Emily observed how their route was bordered by thick, low hedges, laden with frosted, blood-red hawthorn berries and holly leaves; one of the few plants that remained green, within a mass of death and decay which mid-winter always conveyed. Continuing along the path, they soon found themselves submerged in a dark, dense coniferous forest. It was deathly quiet here, the evergreen trees packed so tightly that only the lightest sprinkling of dusty snow had so far been able to penetrate the shadowy depths. And yet the temperature seemed to have dropped even further. Emily felt a momentary waver in the high levels of confidence she'd shown, by accompanying Sam. She quietly questioned whether her normally good instincts were continuing to serve her well. ‘Still cold?' Sam asked, picking up a little on her apprehension. Unable to voice any words, she simply nodded in response. 'I always find singing warms me up. If you'll join me?' he requested. 'Sure,' she croaked, surprised at his suggestion. Causing a sudden jolt of pleasure to travel up her spine, Sam began to sing in a soft, clear voice, filling Emily's imagination with the aroma of chestnuts roasting over a gently crackling, open fire. How was it possible that this man was making her feel an excitement for Christmas that she had barely felt since childhood? And certainly not in the past few years. Immediately recalling the lyrics, as though they were pre-programmed into her very being, she shyly joined in with him. Although hesitant at first, the two of them quickly relaxed. They rattled off all manner of Christmas songs from 'White Christmas' and 'Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer' through to 'I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus'. The tunes were often accompanied by much guffawing, when they started to make up their own lyrics in the absence of knowing the correct ones, as well as adding in all manner of questionable vocal percussion. Consequently, it felt like no time at all before they were passing out of the thick canopy of trees and back into the white, snowy wilderness. Their singing naturally petered out as they trudged around the edge of a huge field which provided a much less intimate setting for vocal melodies, or lack thereof. Indeed, it would have been drowned out by the unmistakable noise of squawking pheasants and distant shotguns filling the air. Skirting beside a river, the looming silhouettes of Giant Hogweed could be seen rising out of the mist, before they turned a sharp corner to follow an alternative footpath which led them directly into a churchyard. Too tired now to be spooked by the lopsided gravestones rising creepily out of the mist, Emily simply kept her head down and focused on Sam's boots, which marched just ahead of her along the narrow path. It was all but dark by the time they wearily emerged into the main body of the village. Emily noticed that parts of the main road through the village had been cleared by helpful residents. However, as the temperatures began to plummet once more, sheet ice had formed on the exposed sections, making it more dangerous than ever. Therefore, instead of slipping and sliding her way along the icy road, Emily tucked in behind Sam and followed the channel that his footsteps had made through the deep snow. It was a route which required more strenuous effort but, on the positive side, was less likely to see her fall arse over tit, and make a complete fool of herself. As they fought their way onwards, Emily found her attention drawn to a huge, eighteenth century manor house, complete with lead-latticed windows and two smoking chimneys at either end of a long, bowing roof. Every light was blazing and a low pulse of music echoed from an open downstairs window. The place was a flurry of activity; the front door wide open, as caterers carrying various trays and boxes continuously made their way across the threshold. Whoever lived there clearly had no respect for the electricity or heating bills. 'Really well done. We've made it,' murmured Sam, sounding relieved. 'Here?' asked Emily, doing a double take. 'This is your Aunt's house?' 'Yeah,' confirmed Sam, gently dusting away the snow which had accumulated on her shoulders, before turning his attention towards his own. 'I was assuming she was a little old lady, living in a flat perhaps,' admitted Emily, her eyes wide with astonishment, as they made their way up the sweeping driveway. 'She'll love it, when she hears that,' laughed Sam, pulling off his gloves to reveal large, strong hands with clean, neatly-trimmed nails. Emily froze. In that instant, all of her attention was directed towards him, as those same hands began to unwind the scarf wrapped around his face. At last, she would see what he looked like. 'Well, please don't mention it then,' she stuttered. 'What's it worth?' he teased, leaving Emily all but speechless. Was he flirting with her? 'Darlings!' cried a woman who appeared on the doorstep. 'You poor things! How awful! Come inside!' Emily stared at her in disbelief; in her sixties, the woman that greeted them was tall, slender, elegant and incredibly attractive. She was adorned with silk scarves, expensive jewellery and an expression of uninhibited delight, as though she knew a very great secret that she couldn't wait to share. 'Emily, this is my Aunt Rosamunde,' introduced Sam proudly. 'Aunt, this is Emily Jones.' 'Rose, to my friends,' she explained, putting her arm around Emily and drawing her into the warmth of her home. 'Of which you already are.' Emily found herself unsure of where to look. Part of her wanted to soak up the interior of the amazing house into which she was now being led, but equally, she was desperate to find out what lay beneath Sam's exterior layers of clothing. 'Oh, Sammie, Darling? Before you get too comfortable, ' Rose added, glancing backwards. Excruciatingly, her words made him pause in his partial state of undress, just as he was about to remove his hat and scarf. 'Please could you grab another wheelbarrow full of logs from the woodshed and put them in the boot room? I'm sure we'll run out otherwise.' 'Only on the condition that you look after Emily, while I'm gone,' he stated, before looking directly at Emily. 'If that's okay with you, of course?' he asked. She nodded shyly in response, touched that he'd bothered to ask. 'Of course I'm going to look after her!' the older lady exclaimed. 'Then, of course, I will get you some more logs, Auntie Rosie,' he teased, walking once again into the cold evening and pulling his gloves back on. 'Oh! Get away with you, you cheeky boy!' exclaimed Rose with a chuckle. 'He always calls me that whenever I accidentally revert back to his childhood nickname. He knows full well it makes me sound like I'm a hundred years old,' she explained, hanging up Emily's dripping coat and leading her through to the kitchen. Not unexpectedly, the kitchen was incredible; a huge room, with painted white walls, infilled with thick black beams and bordered by a selection of Welsh dressers and overflowing granite work surfaces. Against one wall stood an enormous navy blue Aga throwing out a serious amount of much-welcome heat. Meanwhile, the centre of the room was taken up with a scrubbed pine table and chairs which looked as though they had served the needs of several generations before. 'Now, let's get you defrosted. How about a nice warming drink?' asked Rose. 'That would be wonderful,' admitted a lightly shivering Emily, subtly making her way towards the Aga, to share some of its precious warmth. 'A coffee would be lovely if you have one.' Almost unnoticed, one of the catering ladies who was silently floating around the room, flicked a switch to set the coffee machine into action and laid out two coffee cups, cream and sugar on the table. Meanwhile, Rose had marched to the back of the room and was scrabbling around in a cupboard. 'Or how about something a bit stronger?' she asked, waving a bottle of Whiskey above her head, whilst wiggling her eyebrows in Emily's direction. 'You could have an Irish coffee, best of both worlds?' she suggested with a smile. Giggling, Emily shook her head. 'Just a coffee would be great, for now,' she added, receiving a nod of approval from her host. 'Of course, you're right,' agreed Rose, making her way back to the table and pouring out their coffees from the jug which had seamlessly been delivered. Emily accepted the welcome beverage, wrapping her frozen hands around the cup and gratefully inhaling the steam. 'We should definitely pace ourselves. My dear, late husband would have said just the same,' she confessed, smiling fondly. 'I'm sorry,' said Emily sadly, as she received confirmation that Rose was indeed a widow. 'Oh, my dear,' she said warmly, laying her dainty hand over one of Emily's and squeezing gently. 'I knew love in my lifetime. True love, the kind that inspires people to write songs and write books and do all manner of other glorious things. So I absolutely forbid you to feel sorry for me.' 'How wonderful,' murmured Emily, sighing with deep contentment. 'Would you tell me about him?' And with great delight, Rose did just that. As she launched into the story of how they first met, Emily provided a completely rapt audience, wanting no more in that instant, than to hear their true love story. Sam returned a short while later, to find Emily and his aunt sitting cosily in the kitchen, holding hands, giggling outrageously and chatting ten to the dozen. Neither of them had noticed his arrival, so with great pleasure he simply stood and observed the two women, between which an indisputable spark of friendship had already been ignited. 'Darling!' Rose exclaimed with delight. With her concentration broken, Emily twisted around in her seat to be confronted by a sight that she knew was already being meticulously downloaded into her memory, to remain imprinted there for the rest of time. Quite simply, the most gorgeous man she had ever set eyes on, was leaning against the oak-framed doorway watching them. Utterly relaxed, with his arms folded, it was his wide smile, piercing dark eyes and perfectly messed up dark hair that immediately caught her attention. Slowly, her eyes dared to drop down and devour the rest of him. She processed every tiny detail, from his lithe body and strong forearms, right down to the thick navy blue socks he wore, stretched over his large feet. Unable to drag her eyes away, Emily's gaze tracked his progress as he loped across the room, to grab another mug from the cupboard. Although she caught only a fleeting glimpse, unbelievably his back view seemed comparable to the front. Gulping in disbelief, she looked across at Rose for support. Her host seemed unusually quiet; half smiling, half grimacing, apparently incapable of speech. Glancing down at the table, a horrified Emily realised she was tightly clenching Rose's hand. Too good-mannered to complain, relief flooded across the older lady's face when the firm grip was eventually relinquished. 'Sorry,' whispered Emily. Apologising had the added bonus of making her aware that, until that point, her mouth had been hanging open in utter shock. Swiftly rectifying her vacant look, Emily clamped her mouth tightly shut and tried to breathe as calmly as possible through her nose. There wasn't anything she could do about her flushed face, but with any luck, that could be blamed on the extremes of temperature she'd been subjected to over the past few hours. By this time, the man had joined them at the table and was pouring a steaming coffee into his own mug. Emily subconsciously licked her lips as his mouth wrapped around the cup and swallowed with contentment. The low groan he made, as that initial sip slid down his throat, caused a twinge to flutter across her tingling, already swollen pussy. This man was beyond gorgeous. Emily's mind was whirring, unable to believe he might actually be Sam. Surely this couldn't be the man she'd spent the last two hours joking and chatting with, whilst methodically annihilating Nat King Cole's back catalogue, could it? She would never have mildly flirted and nonchalantly shared a chocolate bar in the snow with a man who looked like, well, THAT. She shuffled slightly in her seat as a surge of blood pumped towards her abdomen. And then his familiar tone filled the room and her question remained unanswered no longer. God help her, it was definitely him. 'It looks like you two are destined to be great friends,' he observed wryly. Neither of the two women responded; Emily because she was speechless, Rose because she was delightedly watching Emily's reaction to the arrival of her favourite nephew. 'So, what's the big joke?' pressed Sam. 'You were laughing hysterically a moment ago and now there's nothing but silence. What's up?' Recognising the signs of Emily's distress, Rose stepped in to help. She had personally only observed a reaction like this once before in her life, decades earlier. It was etched on her heart because it was the precious night that she had met and fallen in love with her beloved husband. 'I was just sharing some stories about dear Arthur,' explained Rose swiftly, but she had already lost her audience. 'You're trembling,' observed Sam, looking kindly at Emily. 'Come on,' he said, taking another swig of his beverage before standing up. 'I'll show you to your room. Then you can have a nice long bath and warm up again.' With both of them gazing at her, as though waiting for her to take some form of action, Emily felt she had little choice but to follow Sam out of the kitchen. She wasn't entirely convinced the cold was responsible for making her tremble, but that wasn't something Sam needed to know. Instead, she allowed him to lead her through the house. Together, they ascended the grand staircase before turning off a long corridor. 'This is you,' he explained, making his way into a large bedroom with a four-poster bed. Her bag had already been delivered and placed in a wing-backed armchair. 'And the en suite is just through there,' he added, pointing towards an adjoining bathroom. 'Wow, it's amazing,' she croaked, overwhelmed by such a beautiful room. 'Thank you so much. Are there enough bathrooms for you to take a bath too?' 'Why do you ask?' he teased. 'Would you rather share?' 'No!' she gasped quickly. 'Is everything okay, Emily?' he asked with concern. 'You seem different compared to earlier, more tense?' 'I'm fine. Thanks,' she said a little flustered. Apart from the fact she'd surmised he had children and so probably a wife, it really wouldn't do to let him know the overwhelming effect he was having on her body. 'Okay, if you're sure,' he replied, clearly not convinced. 'Help yourself to whatever you need and I'll see you downstairs when you're ready. And don't rush, I know from experience that sometimes, only a long, luxurious bath will do when you're chilled to the bone. There's tons of hot water, always is, so don't hold back. My aunt doesn't know the meaning of the word economising!' He was just closing the door behind him when a final thought occurred. 'Oh, and don't forget to call your folks,' he added, walking back into the room and handing his mobile phone to her. 'The four-digit keycode to unlock the screen is my age,' he grinned. 'See if you can guess it.' 'Seriously?' she protested, temporarily knocked-out of her shyness. 'Yep,' he laughed. 'I'll give you a clue. The first two numbers are zero, zero. Don't forget to tell your parents you're staying with a perfectly respectable lady. Probably best not to mention her far from respectable nephew.' With a wink that made Emily's cheeks and neck flush, their eyes met lingeringly before Sam closed the door firmly behind himself. With the huge bath gradually filling, Emily took Sam's phone with a significant level of apprehension and tried to guess his keycode. Starting with an estimate of thirty-five, which was her own age, Emily gradually added one year until the phone unlocked at zero zero three nine. With a level of willpower she was unaware she possessed, Emily entered her parents' home phone number, without once scrolling through his photographs, previous texts, or any other personal information Sam had willingly entrusted her with. Her parents' relief when they realised their daughter was safe was palpable. Indeed, it only served to emphasise how right Emily had been not to contact them, before she could give them good news. Providing as much information as she could, Emily described the events of the day and her current location and plans. With a promise to try her best to see them tomorrow, although she had no idea how, she rang off and sank into the welcoming, deep, steamy bubble bath with a satisfied groan. Following several top ups of hot water, during which time she could hear more and more partygoers gathering downstairs, Emily eventually stepped out from the bath, her cold, aching body now warm, supple and relaxed. The sounds of excited chatter, clinking glasses and increasingly raucous laughter echoed up through the floorboards below. Wrapped in a thick, soft bath sheet, she wandered back into the opulent bedroom and emptied her rucksack. Her clothing choices were very limited; she was going to have to wear what she'd purchased for Christmas day. Having dressed in the dark-green, velvet dress, coupled with her favourite lace underwear, Emily felt classy, elegant and unsurprisingly sexy. It was either that or jeans and, glancing out of the window to see what some of the late arrivals were wearing, it didn't look like a jeans kind of event. Once she was satisfied with her physical appearance, Emily turned her attention to her questionable emotional state. It was time to give herself a thoroughly stern talking to. In all probability, Sam wasn't single. Besides which, he was utterly, gloriously, perfectly gorgeous. Only in her very wildest dreams would she end up with a man like that. Furthermore, it was clear he had enjoyed spending time with her on their walk, when she'd been behaving like her normal self. So acting like some love sick teenager, incapable of rational conversation, wasn't going to be helpful on any level. It would be much more sensible to just relax and enjoy their limited time together as friends. And with that mantra firmly lodged in her mind, Emily took a deep breath, retrieved his phone from her bed and drifted downstairs. The party was a roaring success. Even though the bad weather had prevented many from attending, the majority of the village had still turned out to help make it a night to remember. Emily found herself chatting non-stop, not just to Rose and Sam whom she naturally gravitated towards, but to an array of other guests, many of which were delightful company. Towards the end of the evening, Sam sidled up behind her, taking her quite by surprise. 'Dance with me?' he murmured into her ear. Looking around to see his smiling face, she felt her stomach drop with lust. Up close and personal, dressed in black tie, he truly was faint-making. 'Sure,' Emily replied, in the calmest tone she could muster. She watched in astonishment as he picked up her hand, stroked her sensitive palm gently with his thumb and led her towards the dance floor at the far end of the house. The beat was slow, sultry and purposeful as 'Please come home for Christmas' oozed out of the speakers. Gently, Sam pulled Emily's body against his own. In a heightened state of bliss, Emily lay her head against his shoulder and closed her eyes. Revolving slowly around the room, they were aware of no one but each other. With her hands placed properly around his back, she could feel his taut muscles moving beneath her fingertips and the easy sway of his hips against hers. It was, quite simply, overwhelming. Disappointment flooded her as the song naturally came to an end. When it was replaced by 'All I want for Christmas is you,' Sam readjusted his hold on her and continued to dance, causing Emily's heart to soar once more. With a wide smile, Emily was unable to prevent herself from gazing up at him, her admiration blatantly discernible. 'Is everything okay?' he asked gently. 'Everything's just perfect,' she replied, beaming. Chuckling slightly, he shook his head before laying his cheek against her forehead. 'You look beautiful tonight,' he murmured matter-of-factly into her hair, as they continued to revolve around the floor. Those words had a devastating effect on Emily's pulse, which shot through the roof as a tingle of pleasure flooded every cell in her body. They danced all the way through the tracks that followed, until the final song of the evening began to play. When the chords of 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' boomed out of the speakers and the entire party seemed to cram into a single room, Emily and Sam were forced to step apart. The time for slow dancing had concluded. It was a little after midnight when all of the guests had finally departed and the elderly house fell still once more. 'That was the best party ever!' Emily confided to Rose as she collapsed beside her on the sofa, in front of the gently crackling fire. 'Thank you so much for letting me stay.' 'I'm so pleased you enjoyed yourself, my dear. I saw you dancing with Sam,' she added mischievously, before taking a final sip from her mug of hot chocolate. 'Yes,' admitted a blushing Emily. 'We danced.' 'He's a good boy, that one,' sighed Rose as she eased herself up to standing. 'Faithful, trustworthy and very, very decent. And now I absolutely must go to sleep, so I'll say good night, dear girl.' 'Good night,' echoed Emily, watching the older lady leave the room. But listening to the muffled hum of conversation between Rose and her nephew in the hallway, Emily couldn't help but feel a sense of loss. Had Rose just warned her off Sam? Had she been trying to help her understand that he would not betray the trust of his partner; of his children? Emily gazed into the middle distance. Out of the window, thick snowflakes continued to fall silently from the dark sky. Lost in her own thoughts, she wasn't aware of Sam's presence, until he dropped down onto the sofa beside her. Luxuriously, he rolled his head around on his shoulders and stretched. 'Hey,' he growled. 'Hey,' she replied, glancing across at him. The look in his dark eyes, which danced and twinkled back at her in the firelight, forced her to inhale swiftly. 'Bed time?' he asked. Emily nodded in agreement, with no appreciation as to whether he was making a statement or an offer. As they made their way out of the room and up the sweeping staircase, curiosity prevailed. 'Won't your children miss you tonight?' Emily asked. 'My children?' he clarified, turning off lamps as they went. 'Yes, in the photo on your phone.' 'Ah, Sally and William? Probably not,' he explained. 'But I still have no doubt they'll be as excited as ever, by my arrival tomorrow. I've always spoilt my niece and nephew with an excessive amount of Christmas presents; they'll be pleased to discover that this year will be no exception.' 'Niece and nephew? Oh, right,' croaked Emily. They had come to a halt outside her bedroom door and she had absolutely no idea what to do next. Her eyes rose slowly upwards, on the off chance that a thoughtfully placed piece of mistletoe might make things easier. To her disappointment, there was only a dusty light fitting and a spider's web. 'Well, good night Emily,' said Sam softly, dipping his head to her cheek and allowing his lips to brush across her soft skin. He stayed there for a beat longer than necessary before straightening up. Smiling down at her, he nodded his head decisively. 'Happy Christmas.' 'Happy Christmas,' she murmured to his departing back, unexpectedly overwhelmed by an acute sense of loss. On the other side of the corridor, he opened his own bedroom door, paused and turned back to face her. For a long moment, they gazed at each other, although their friendly smiles had all but disappeared. Somehow, over the course of the evening, their relationship had transformed into something more intimate, perilous and demanding of attention. Emily found herself unable to do anything other than stare back, utterly spellbound. Eventually, he sighed and nodded almost imperceptibly, before retiring into the bedroom and closing the door behind himself. To be continued in Part 3 By FenellaAshworth for Literotica.

Now. I second. Here, too, I second, I third, even for not I as you, And you both as I, And how, The sun has set upon us, Why, death is sure to come As I rise, But give me no mercy, this Mellow now, I only beg What here has transpired Silence here, Between myself and I— Brethren. What do Anthony Hopkins, Dan Aykroyd, Courtney Love, Daryl Hannah, Jerry Seinfeld, Albert Einstein, Heather Kuzmich, Elon Musk, Lionel Messi, Eminem, and Satoshi Tajiri have in common?Celebrity? Creativity? Fame? Fortune? Yes, all of them have these things to varying degrees. Each and every one of them also has (or in Einstein's case, had) autism. So does author, actor, autism advocate, and animal rights activist Daniel Keith Austin, creator of the children's book series, Chelsea's New Journey. I was especially interested in hosting Daniel on the show because there are a lot of misconceptions around what autism is and how people with it interact with the world. It's a topic that's near and dear to my heart because my nephew is on the spectrum. Daniel was raised with the core beliefs of striving to be a good and decent person who treats people well, does things for the overall benefit of mankind, and helps people lead better lives. He also grew up as one of four autistic siblings and experienced many challenges. He was a disruptive kid who struggled in an educational system that just wanted him to follow orders and behave while doing little to support him in learning to form relationships and communicate effectively. He didn't find out he had autism until he was 14 years old. In Daniel's case, you could say things were never “fine” – for him, Fine is a 4-Letter Word and always has been.In a moment, when you meet Daniel, you'll discover how his passion for writing, performing, and storytelling led him to create a series of children's books about Chelsea the Golden Retriever.Revolving around the life story of a Golden Retriever based on Daniel's childhood dog, this series breaks down and transforms complicated, contentious themes into an understandable, relatable tale that powerfully addresses themes of abandonment, the need for acceptance and belonging, and triumph over adversity through seemingly impossible challenges from the perspective of someone who lacks a human voice.Through Chelsea's eyes, Daniel invites you to join an engaging and thought-provoking story arc around Chelsea becoming a therapy dog for people on the autism spectrum.Daniel's hype song is “Something's Coming” from West Side Story.Resources:Daniel Keith Austin's websites: https://danielkeithaustin.com/ and https://www.chelseasnewbeginningbook.com/ Facebook: https://facebook.com/chelsea.the.golden.retrieverInstagram: https://instagram.com/chelseathegoldenretriever88/X (formerly Twitter): https://x.com/ChelseaTheGold2Invitation from Lori: Before we get to this thought-provoking, emotional conversation that delivers a new perspective on thriving with autism, let me mention that in my special guide, 5 Easy Ways to Start Living the Sabbatical Life, you can discover, step-by-step, how you can stop settling for “fine” and look at your life with a fresh set of eyes. Even if, like many people in today's high-speed world, you're not in a position to take a month or year-long sabbatical. You know how you normally hear the disclaimer “Don't try this at home!” In this case, you CAN try this at home. And not just “try,” DO. Once...

Episode Notes: ~The overall goal of parenting is to bring up a biblically and morally responsible child.~ •The significance of marriage in parenting is that God has created a family first and foremost in the marriage relationship. A child/children are a welcome part of that family; they are subordinate to the marriage relationship, not the center. •Practical advice: prioritize spending the first ten minutes at home connecting with your spouse and modeling that in front of your kids. •Child-centered parenting is incredibly dangerous. Revolving your entire world around your child cultivates self-centered/self-absorbed perspectives in your child that will negatively impact them into adulthood. Marriage-centered parenting cultivates greater security in the life of a child. •Marital conflict plays a significant role in the life of a child. If an argument starts in front of your kids, ensure that the resolution does as well. When conflict happens (whether between spouses or between children), practice: •Repentance- I was wrong •Forgiveness- will you forgive me •Restoration- kiss and make up If you're struggling with keeping conflict out of the line of your kids, get someone to watch them and go get help. (Sunnybrook has marriage mentor couples or a list of professional counselors to help – contact laurievc@sunnybrookchurch.org) Your child can find security in witnessing your own dependence upon God in the midst of struggles with or the absence of a spouse. Discussion Questions: 1. Would you say that you have a marriage-centered or child-centered approach to parenting? How has this podcast impacted your perspective on this subject? 2. How might you practically invest more in your marital relationship so that your children might experience greater security? 3. What are your tendencies when it comes to conflict resolution between you and your spouse? How might you model healthy conflict resolution before your kids? 4. How might you help your kids practice healthy conflict resolution within the home? 5. In what ways can you practically model dependence upon God in the midst of struggles at home, either between you and your spouse or with your kids?
On today show we are looking at whether increasing interest rates is effective at combatting inflation. The theory is that when interest rates rise, people are encouraged to save money and benefit from the income that is available from those higher interest rates. This is particularly true if interest rates are higher than the rate of inflation, so that you get a real positive rate of return on interest-bearing instruments. When I think back to the early 1980s, I can remember conversations with my mother about putting my savings into high-yield bonds that were government-backed. I did not truly understand the math behind nominal interest rates versus real interest rates at the time I was particularly impressed when in that one year, I earned 18% interest on a $10,000 bond. For a teenager that $1800 in interest was a lot of money. In the late 1970's the personal savings rate was around 9% and then in jumped in the early 1980's to around 13%. These were the days when Pauli Volcker pushed Fed interest rates all the way up to 19%. That steadily declined until it hit a low in 2005 of 1.4% and then another low again in 2007 of 1.9%. We witnessed a bit of a recovery in personal savings through the 2010's to about 8.5% in 2019. Then with all of the stimulus money during the pandemic, personal savings jumped to 32% in 2020, before falling down to 12%, and then spiked again to 26% in the second wave of the pandemic. Personal savings rates are now down to 3.2% after nearly two years of rising interest rates. The increase in interest rates is not having the desired effect. People are not saving more. Not only that, credit card balances are through the roof. Revolving consumer credit increased to nearly $1.1T in the first quarter, up from $727B in April of 2021. This supposedly strong economy is being funded by credit card debt. People are running out of credit. ---------- Host: Victor Menasce email: podcast@victorjm.com

Get ready to decrypt the complexities of cyber safety and stay informed. Stand at the frontier of cyber security news, where every insight is a key to unlocking the mysteries of the digital domain. Your voyage through the cyber news vortex starts now. [00:00:29] offsetkeyz: Welcome back to the daily decrypt. Today we're joined by hot girl farmer. Who's going to. Help recap the breaches from the last week. your favorite segment who's been popped. Then we're going to be talking about the magnet goblins gobbling up one day vulnerabilities. And finally. The word, press pop-up plugin vulnerability persists popping approximately 3,300 sites. [00:00:54] transition: Thanks for [00:01:00] watching! [00:01:00] hgf: first up on our list is a chili tail from the tech giant Microsoft on March 9th. Microsoft announced that Russian hackers, chilly from their previous solar winds attack, decided to warm up by spying on some emails of Microsoft, senior leaders. The hack evolved into a frosty situation with some of Microsoft secure source code stolen. Switching over to Switzerland where things got a bit too neutral for their liking on March 8th, the Swiss government found itself in a knot tighter than a Swiss wristwatch. A ransomware attack leaked 65,000 government documents. It appears the hackers played their cards, right with the play ransomware gang, proving that sometimes neutrality attracts more than just peace. You know, what if only they had some witches watching those Swiss wristwatches, which, which would, which, where, which Swiss watch. There were three witches. And there were three Swiss wristwatches, which witch would watch which Swiss wristwatch. Absolutely not. [00:02:00] Now pour one out for the Duvel Moortgat brewery on March 9th found its production as stale as the beer in a forgotten glass. The brewery known for its spirited, Duvel faced a ransomware attack that halted it's hops. It's a sobering reminder that no industry is immune and perhaps it's time for cyber attackers to barley there. Brew up some better hobbies, maybe. They be brewing up something. Yikes. March six, brought a cold front to Canada's fin track freezing some of it systems or the cyber incident as crisp as the Canadian winter, while their intelligence system stayed snug and warm. It's a stark reminder that even those guarding the treasure need to watch their own chest. Lastly Hamilton, a Canadian city got a taste of digital disruption, but services paralyzed faster than a moose caught in headlights. The ransomware attack confirmed on March 5th has shown that even city services can get frozen over in the cyber blizzard. It's a digital reminder that in the game of cybersecurity, sometimes you go hockey stick and sometimes you're [00:03:00] the puck. Mm. Canadians love hockey. Us too. That's what I hear anyways. [00:03:06] transition: Thanks for watching! [00:03:12] offsetkeyz: All right. So the magnet goblins are gobbling up one day. Vulnerabilities. This. Is coming to you from checkpoint research. Published on March 8th, check the show notes for the URL. But if financially motivated cyber threat actor called magnet goblin. Is getting really good at exploiting one day vulnerabilities. And one day vulnerabilities are essentially vulnerabilities that are announced. And discovered already. But not yet patched. So the one day signifies about how much time attackers have to exploit these vulnerabilities before they get patched. And the magnet goblets have gotten really good at exploiting one day vulnerabilities.. The magnet goblins have targeted such systems as Ivanti connect, secure VPN, Magento ClixSense and. [00:04:00] Potentially Apache active MQ. And they use these vulnerabilities to deploy a variety of malware, including the novel Linux version of nerdy and rat, which is a remote access Trojan and warp wire, a JavaScript credential stealer. Magnet goblins, rapid adoption of one day. Vulnerabilities really just emphasizes the problem we have with patching. And the need for it. There. Operations have historically centered around financial gain. As opposed to some other motivations, like. Political or social or hacktivism. They're all about the money. And they usually use techniques. Revolving around data theft to include ransomware. Really whatever they can use to get their money. There isn't much news here other than the fact that the magnet goblins. Are out there and we really. Are behind. On our practices of updating as well as on our updates. . So as soon as a one day vulnerability comes out, make sure to check. The specifics of [00:05:00] that vulnerability and look for the indicators of compromise surrounding it. [00:05:15] offsetkeyz: Alright, and to wrap up today's stories, We're going to be talking about that. WordPress pop-up plugin. Vulnerability that was announced last November. Recently seen an uptick. In exploits. It's impacting. The plugin version is 4.2 0.3 and older. And involves a cross site, scripting vulnerability. And really highlights the reluctance of WordPress users to update their plugins. So if you're a WordPress administrater or consumer of WordPress websites, which most of us are one of those two things. If not, both. The WordPress plugin must be active and also creating popups on your site. So for example, this plugin is enabled by default. When you. Launch a new WordPress website, which we don't [00:06:00] love. But the good news is that even though it's enabled by default, It must be creating pop-ups in order for it to be. Exploited. My fear when reading this was that, yes, this is a default plugin. And since it's a default plugin, there are what 300,000 WordPress sites out there, all with this plugin, just chilling, probably on updated. And unutilized but luckily it must be utilized as well as enabled. And that's because the attackers inject PHP code into one of the events. That triggers the pop-up. And that PHP code is then stored on the server, alongside the WordPress site, making it a stored cross site, scripting vulnerability. Which means that anyone who accesses the site and sees the pop-up. Is vulnerable. To that malicious PHP code. And that code can do many things. It can try to hijack your session cookie, which. Is the ultimate goal, because then the attacker is you [00:07:00] without actually having to log in. Or it could redirect you to fishing sites or really anything that they want. So if you're a WordPress admin, obviously update or disable. I'm going to lean towards disabled because pop-ups are really annoying. Especially since they're now vulnerable. Go ahead and use a banner. Go ahead and open up a new tab somewhere, but don't. Pop up right. As I'm about to click something on your website, I'm immediately going to navigate away from your website. If there's a, pop-up sorry for the rant. If you're a consumer. Try grabbing a pop-up blocker from Google Chrome app store. I think Google Chrome even comes with a built in app. For blocking pop-ups. And whether or not it blocks the specific pop-up on the site that you're visiting. It will at least alert you that there is a pop-up. And allow you to confirm or deny pop-ups on that site. So better than nothing. But yeah. Totally against pop-ups as a practice, I'm really glad my WordPress site doesn't have any popups for this reason. . And [00:08:00] also for the reason to not annoy the crap out of the few website, visitors that I get. If you'd like to visit a website with no popups, no advertisements. Go ahead and check out. Daily decrypt.news. Just the words, daily decrypt.news, and you will find words and pictures and sounds. But no ads. And no pop-ups. All right. That's all we've got for you today. Quick episode. Huge. Thanks to hot girl farmer for coming on and delivering the hot breaches in who's been popped. We will talk to you some more tomorrow. [00:09:00]

Does anybody have a bigger gravity around here than him? 250 - Lightning Round!
Consider the humble escalator – a moving staircase that astonished crowds when it debuted in 1896. We hardly pay attention to the dull gleam of its metal treads, swiftly and safely transporting passengers to new heights. Revolving ceaselessly, we hardly notice it. The soft sweep of the skirt guards, the subtle squeak of the rubber handrails, and the dull clunk of each step disappearing below the landing plate as it begins the cycle again. We have come to rely on this powerful, yet familiar machine to make life easier. ---
Send us a Text Message. So, I got to wondering …in both life and love, why do we, as humans, always crave comfort? I mean, I'm sure you can guess…it's really a simple enough answer. We crave comfort because it feels good. Uh…duh. Lol, makes sense. Right?Of course it does. But, what if the comfort we once thought felt so f*cking good suddenly starts to feel a lot less good? Or even just a little less good??Are we meant to beat ourselves up for how we feel differently now? Should we just dismiss our own feelings and stay with the status quo?Are we really “crazy” for having a drastic change in our own POV? Nah. We're definitely not.Because what we are really doing when this happens in our lives is evolving our own mindset. Which *SPOILER ALERT* is a very important step in getting ourselves to where we want to be. Getting our feelings where they feel best for us.So yeah…it's necessary sometimes for old routines, old relationships, old habits and thoughts to be shaken up if we are going to start moving into living our best lives. Sometimes we just have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That's when we learn how to develop our own tools so we can better understand why the change is happening for us and how we can best navigate our lives thru these “uncomfortable changes” whenever they occur. So this week, let's try to answer this: Are we really comfortable enough to embrace our individual evolution or are we just content enough to stay with the same repetitive cycles that we have had set upon us generation after generation?Personally…I like to think the time for evolving has come! ( perhaps, even a little past due,no? ) But as always, I am just here to offer thoughts and how I've grown my own consciousness, only you can choose what's what in your own lives. So, listen on …it's time to decide for yourselves where you truly want to go from here….
In early ‘80s California, a new kind of music was brewing that blended the psychedelic sounds of the '60s with the modern day post-punk ethos. This week, hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot reflect on the Paisley Underground movement. They'll discuss the prominent bands like The Bangles, explore what made the scene so special and explain its impact on indie rock. Jim and Greg will also look back at the 1964 hit by The Shangri-Las, "Leader of the Pack," almost 60 years later. Plus, they'll review the new record from The Hives.
