This week on The Business of Watches, we go behind the scenes with the man who compiles and crunches the numbers for the Morgan Stanley Swiss Watcher report, the most influential and widely read annual financial league table on the industry. Oliver Müller has been around the sector for some three decades, beginning his career at Omega before executive roles at a series of brands, including Laurent Ferrier, where he served as Chief Executive Officer. He's now a consultant to the industry and has helped shape brand strategy and positioning for the likes of Akrivia and Rexhep Rexhepi, among others.  Müller's most high-profile gig these days is compiling the estimates of Swiss brand revenue and volumes for the Morgan Stanley report. It's the top league table for the sector, and he tells us how he calculates and decides on the estimates that get published. Not everyone is a fan. Swatch Group has long criticized the report, now in its 9th edition, and Müller tells us why he believes Swatch and its leadership don't always appreciate the numbers. Edited by Amelia Munson (SLC'26) Dael Orlandersmith is an acclaimed playwright known for works such as Stoop Stories, Yellowman and Until the Flood. She was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and Drama Desk Award nominee, and won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for The Gimmick. Her honors include a New York Foundation for the Arts grant, the Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, Doris Duke grant and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Orlandersmith's play Forever premiered at the Mark Taper Forum and was subsequently performed at venues including Long Wharf, New York Theatre Workshop and Portland Center Stage. Until the Flood debuted at St. Louis Repertory and has since been staged at numerous theaters, including the Arcola Theatre in London. She's worked on commissions for Rattlestick Theatre and Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, including Watching the Watcher and Antonio's Song/I Was Dreaming of a Son, and collaborated with David Cale and Robert Falls on You Don't Know the Lonely One. In 2023, Orlandersmith performed Spiritus/Virgil's Dance at CATF Theatre in West Virginia, followed by performances at Rattlestick Theatre and Merrimack Theatre in Lowell, Massachusetts in 2024. She also appeared in Pre-Existing Condition by Marin Ireland, directed by Maria Dizzia, at Connelly Theater in New York City. Additionally, she is currently working on a book of autofiction.

Tonight we're doing something a little different here on Sasquatch Odyssey. We're setting aside the witness interviews and the evidence analysis and the investigative reports, and instead we're gathering around the fire to tell a story the old fashioned way. This is a Christmas tale about a young Sasquatch named Thorn who has spent the autumn watching a human family from the treeline above their mountain cabin.He's fascinated by their laughter, their warmth, their strange rituals of carving pumpkins and roasting marshmallows and dragging trees inside their homes to cover them with lights. His kind has always kept their distance from humans, but something about this family calls to him in ways he doesn't quite understand. On Christmas Eve, when the teenage daughter Emma leaves a plate of cookies on the porch railing and looks up toward the treeline with a knowing smile, everything changes. Thorn makes a decision that will alter the course of his life and theirs.
