Bible Reading: Psalm 116:2; Philippians 4:6-7Gabe crumpled up his paper and threw it across the kitchen table. "I hate math. These word problems don't make any sense!""Read one to me," said Mom. "We can figure it out together."Gabe read the problem out loud. "Ryan found forty-five golf balls. His dad gave him three more. Then Ryan sold one-third of all his golf balls to Sam. After Sam took his, Ryan lost six balls. How many balls did he have left?" "Okay." Mom grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. "So what's the first step?"Together, Gabe and his mom calculated the answer, then went on to find answers to five more word problems. But Gabe was still worried. "I'm gonna bomb this test tomorrow," he said, rubbing a hand over his eyes."But you just finished six problems correctly!" said Mom.Gabe shrugged. "With your help! I'm afraid I'm going to forget things and mess it all up."Mom closed the math book. "Gabe, you have done everything you should to prepare for this math test. Everything, that is, except the most important thing.""What's that?" Gabe asked."Throughout the Bible, God tells us not to worry or be scared. Instead, we should ask Him for help with every problem we face, then trust that He will bring it." Mom grinned and ruffled Gabe's hair. "Now, that doesn't mean you shouldn't study hard, do your homework, and listen in class. We should do what we can to prepare for things like math tests. But you also need to pray and ask Jesus to help you do your best. Then give your worries to Him and trust Him with the situation." Mom looked Gabe in the eyes. "And remember that no matter what grade you get on your test, He will always love you and be with you. If things don't go the way you had hoped, you can share your worries with Him then too and feel peace knowing He will take care of you." Gabe closed his eyes and folded his hands. "Jesus, please help me remember that You are with me when I take this test tomorrow. Help me feel Your peace, knowing You'll take care of me, no matter what happens. Thank You, Lord. Amen." Gabe opened his eyes. "Now I'm really prepared!" -Bonnie CarrHow About You?Are you worried about something? Have you spent time working on the problem and still feel nervous things won't turn out well? Don't forget the most important thing you can do is pray. Talk to Jesus about your worries, and remember that He promises to take care of you, no matter what happens. Then prepare as best you can and trust Him with the results. Today's Key Verse:Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (NLT) (1 Peter 5:7)Today's Key Thought:Give your worries to Jesus

Welcome to Day 1437 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomYou Can't Take It With You – Humor UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your Captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1437 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+15:30&version=NLT (Proverbs 15:30) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22&version=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let's jump right in with today's funny which is titled: You Can't Take It With YouOld snarling Sam, was a grumpy miserly man, had no friends. He did live a long life and was quite successful financially. Sam was known for rarely spending his wealth, and since he did not trust banks, he kept most of it in his home. After Sam turned 90, his health rapidly turned for the worst. Just before he died, he asked Dave his doctor, Lew his lawyer, and Mike, his minister, to gather around his bedside. Through a frail voice, Sam said, “I have always heard you can't take it with you, but I am going to prove you can, I have $300,000 in cash under my mattress. It's in three envelopes of $100,000 each. I want each of you to take one envelope now, and just before they throw the dirt on me, you throw the envelopes in.” A week later, Sam died, and his funeral soon followed. Dave, Lew, and Mike attended the funeral promised, and each threw his envelope into the grave. On the way back from the cemetery, the Mike, the minister said, “I don't feel exactly right. I'm going to confess. I needed $50,000 badly for a new church we're building, so I took out $50,000 and threw only $50,000 in the grave.” Dave, the doctor, hung his head in shame and said, “I, too, must confess. I am building a hospital and took $75,000 and threw in only $25,000.” Lew, the lawyer, said in a proud tone, “Gentlemen, I'm surprised, shocked, and ashamed of you. I don't see how you could hold out that money. I deposited the $100,000 into my personal bank account threw in my personal check for the full amount.” I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, “A miser grows rich by seeming poor; an extravagant man grows poor by seeming rich. Here is our verse for today: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2016%3A26&version=NLT (Matthew 16:26) And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?  Just as you enjoy these nuggets of humor, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1436 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are all available at Wisdom-Trek.com.  I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day will be downloaded to you automatically. Thank you for allowing me to be your guide,...

When Michael Sam told his University of Missouri teammates he was gay before last season, it wasn’t a big deal. It’s a safe bet that NFL teams – who know what kind of gum their prospects chew – already knew this, too. But when Sam came out publicly, it changed the equation. The NFL has already had gay players, so that’s not new. But publicly declaring you’re gay is new – and so is the onslaught of media attention. After Sam came out, he dropped from a projected fourth- or fifth-rounder to the seventh and final round. Part of the reason was surely homophobia – though that term isn’t accurate. To paraphrase Morgan Freeman, “If you’re homophobic, you’re not afraid of homosexuals. You’re just an A-hole.” But the NFL teams that passed on Sam probably had other reasons, too. Yes, Sam was named defensive player of the year in the Southeastern Conference, but he’s not a complete player. He’s great at sacking quarterbacks, but not at covering the run. At the NFL Combine, his numbers for speed
