Strokes happen to people of all ages in all walks of life. Recognizing the signs and reacting fast can make all the difference. Understand the signs and symptoms of a stroke to be prepared to help in this medical emergency.
The story of Regina Spektor is one of a truly self-made artist. In 1989, at nine years old, Spektor and her family emigrated from Moscow to the Bronx in New York. Her love and affinity for playing the piano found her studying in high school at the Manhattan School of Music, and as she continued her classical studies she was also being exposed to and fell in love with pop music, hip-hop, and punk rock. Her self-released albums 11:11 and Songs led to a growing audience and opening slots for The Strokes and Kings of Leon. She was soon signed to Sire Records, who released her third album, Soviet Kitsch. Fast forward many years, and the list of accolades and accomplishments for Regina is long. She has released eight studio albums, featured at the Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Glastonbury festivals, performed at the White House for the Obamas, wrote the theme song for the Netflix series Orange is the New Black, and has had songs appear in multiple films. She recently reissued her albums Begin to Hope, Far, What We Saw From The Cheap Seats, Remember Us To Life, and Live in London all exclusively on vinyl. Geoff Stanfield caught up with Regina from her home in New York to discuss her early years, her passion for the craft, and takeaways from working with producers such as Jeff Lynne, Jacknife Lee, John Congleton, and Mike Elizondo. Enjoy!

Much like our own personal performance, we often turn to someone who has been there and done that, to give us guidance. So why not consult someone from a sport that was in the same growing phase years ago, that we are in now. Enter David Pingree. David was a professional Motocross and Supercross racer that watched the sport of Supercross grow from its humble roots in the late 80's/early 90's, to what it is today, which is a multi billion dollar industry. Where they were in the late 80's, is comparable to where our sport is now. So, Jason flew to California to take David shooting and give him some context for the podcast. David had some very interesting advice and things to beware of as we grow. Not to mention, David prides himself on being politically incorrect, so this episode is very entertaining as well!DEAD PAIR / KOLAR DRAWING - https://e.givesmart.com/events/HpS/i/_All/u1g0/?search= -- - - - - Kolar Arms - https://www.kolararms.com- Fiocchi USA - https://fiocchiusa.com- Atlas Traps - https://www.atlastraps.com- Rhino Chokes - https://rhinochokes.com- Ranger Shooting Eyewear - https://www.reranger.comRanger 10% Discount = DEADPAIR - Taconic Distillery - https://www.spirits.taconicdistillery.com/ Discount code -DEADPAIR10- Long Range - https://www.longrangellc.com- Score Chaser - https://scorechaser.com/- National Sporting Clays Association - https://nssa-nsca.org/- Clay Range Design Works - https://traptowers.comSupport the showThe Dead Pair Podcast - https://thedeadpair.com FACEBOOK- https://www.facebook.com/Thedeadpair.
Damian Lazarus joins me for a wide-ranging conversation tracing his path from the early 2000s electroclash scene to his position today as one of dance music's most consistently influential figures. We talk about how it all began — from getting his first DJ residency at 16, to working as music editor at Dazed and Confused, to his A&R role at City Rockers, where he helped shape the early sound of electroclash alongside labels like Gigolo and Turbo. He shares stories from that era: warehouse parties in Shoreditch, impromptu gigs in disused toilets, and encounters with everyone from The Strokes to Jarvis Cocker. We also get into what came next: founding Crosstown Rebels, building immersive events like Day Zero and Get Lost, and working with artists like Jamie Jones, Francesca Lombardo, and Maceo Plex.Damian also talks candidly about sobriety, how it affected his creative process during the making of his Magickal album, and what changed for him on a personal level. He describes the early signs — creative blocks, burnout — and the shifts that followed once he made the decision to stop.We cover a lot: longevity in music, what it means to stay curious, and how looking back at music's past helps him think about where things might go next.Listen to Damian Lazarus' music:

On May 28, 2010, Gary Coleman — the child star who became a household name as Arnold Jackson on Diff'rent Strokes — died at the age of 42 following a fall at his home in Utah. Behind the catchphrases and sitcom fame was a life marked by legal battles, health struggles, and a constant fight to reclaim control over his image and earnings. Though his voice was silenced far too soon, his legacy lives on in the conversation around child stardom, entertainment industry exploitation, and the resilience of those who refuse to be defined by a single role. Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. In today's episode, the question is straightforward, but the format is not. Greg is absent, so Mark is taking on a few of the podcast listeners. The question: from 125 in the fairway, how many strokes would it take a scratch and a 10-index golfer on average to finish the hole? Can Mark guess better than our (very educated) audience? Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap. Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee! Data is sourced from Arccos Golf. They have over 1 BILLION shots in their database. David Cross is one of the best of the alternative stand-up comics who emerged in the 1990s. He also co-created a legendary HBO sketch show AND was the actor behind one of the most cringe-inducing characters in a show full of them. We wonder what he does in his spare time! A self-described "misfit" in his Georgia hometown, David found his people when he moved first to New York, then to LA in search of comedy stardom. He found it -- but in an alternative way issuing a number of well-received comedy albums on the SubPop label (at that time mostly known for grunge music), then teaming with Bob Odenkirk on Mr. Show, then owning the role of Tobias Funke on Arrested Development -- a therapist who doesn't really want to be a therapist -- instead he dreams of show business success (without a lick talent to back those dreams). As always, find extended cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more David Cross? Here's a little bonus if you are a Strokes fan -- David sets up this video for "Juicebox" with a perfect take on a bad Morning Zoo style DJ.https://youtu.be/GoltwBHXCx8?si=DUDE1CugtU1IY0j4 Mr. Show remains a favorite many years after its final episode. Created by and starring David and Bob Odenkirk, the show tied together sharp sketches on the oddest topics such as this most unusual talk show. https://youtu.be/mhVbLJvYP8s?si=JHuycsQ5XJjI8kr1 David was a hit in the alternative comedy movement of the 1990s and this 1994 appearance on Conan O'Brien is a good example of his style at the time. Nice sweater, too. https://youtu.be/CNzEK9_4Qyw?si=LIBCwnM2oir-pvPy David was part of the cast that made Arrested Development a cult classic, playing Dr. Tobias Funke, a therapist who really wants to be as star. https://youtu.be/r52Z-GscUwU?si=E5_AKVUUkGzGjhTQ

TrulySignificant.com presents Dr. Gary Seale.Heat levels are climbing year over year, continuously breaking the global heat record. As temperatures rise, so do life-threatening heat-related illnesses like heat stroke, which can cause permanent brain damage. Gary is the Regional Director of Clinical Services at Houston-based Centre for Neuro Skills, is available to talk about essential tips for heat stroke prevention and taking proactive measures to avoid heat stroke that can be the difference between life and death. Centre for Neuro Skills, a brain injury and stroke rehabilitation provider, treats brain injuries caused by heat stroke. “Of all the heat-related illnesses, heat stroke is the most serious. Heat stroke occurs when the body is no longer able to regulate temperature and cool down,” says Dr. Seale. “Body temperatures can rise rapidly to 104 degrees or higher which can cause damage to organs, including the brain, and result in permanent disability. Heat stroke can cause brain swelling, seizures, and lead to chronic inflammation, all of which disrupt brain function.” Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

We sit down with our long time friend Mitchell (a name we've dropped countless times on this podcast) to chat about Kings of Leon's second record Aha Shake Heartbreak. An extremely formative band and record for the 3 of us, we reminisce about seeing the band open for The Strokes in 2003, rushing down to the local record shop to grab a copy of Aha Shake in 2005, and dive deep into every track of the record. We discuss the brilliant lyrical balance of raw vulnerability with unbridled testosterone, and the southern tinged garage rock sound that defined the group just before their meteoric mainstream rise in the years to come. Join us next week for part 2. Many people assume that ingesting cannabis — whether through edibles, oils, or tinctures — eliminates the cardiovascular risks associated with smoking it. While it's true that edibles avoid the harmful byproducts of combustion (such as carbon monoxide and tar), ingested cannabis still carries significant heart health risks due to the effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), its main psychoactive compound. When THC is absorbed through the digestive system, it can cause substantial increases in heart rate and blood pressure — sometimes more dramatically than when cannabis is smoked or vaped. This cardiovascular strain can persist for several hours, making the heart work harder for an extended period. For individuals with existing heart disease, high blood pressure, or other risk factors, this can significantly increase the chances of experiencing arrhythmias, heart attacks, or strokes. Additionally, edible cannabis products often contain higher doses of THC, and because their effects are delayed, people sometimes consume more than intended — compounding the cardiovascular impact. In short: while ingesting cannabis might seem safer than inhaling it, it still triggers systemic effects that can stress the heart and blood vessels — particularly in older adults or anyone with underlying cardiovascular conditions.
Ben Kweller's music first stole my heart back in the early oughts when he released his wonderful debut album Sha Sha, and I have been a huge admirer of his work ever since. I've also had the good fortune of his friendship for more than twenty years, so it was amazing to finally get together with him for the LSQ podcast. Episode 123 features a deep and poignant conversation with BK about his entire creative history, including his excellent latest album, Cover The Mirrors, which was written in the wake of the tragic death of his teenage son Dorian. In addition to sharing how that tremendous loss ended up inspiring him to reconnect with making music in the innocent way he'd done as a kid, he details what those early creative years were like for him — writing Beatles-inspired love songs on the piano as a little kid, starting his band Radish after hearing Nirvana, hustling to get Radish their first shows at Chauncey's Place, a local billiards hall in Greenville, Texas, eventually getting rides from his parents to Dallas to play shows there, recording Radish's demos and the ensuing bidding war to sign them, and more. I was also fascinated to hear about his family connection to legendary guitarist Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and Neil Young's Crazy Horse (as well as being a brilliant artist in his own right), and how Lofgren provided key support at multiple points during Ben's early days. And then we get into his moves toward stepping out on his own as an artist, including how support from the Lemonheads' Evan Dando helped catalyze his solo career. Ben also reminisces about the heyday of the New York City indie scene he was part of in the oughts, and how allyship with bands like the Strokes and Moldy Peaches and Kings of Leon (although not from NYC, the Kings regular touring companions of Ben's and honorary NYC scenesters) created a vital support system. On more recent topics, Ben reveals that Radish's lost sophomore album, Discount Fireworks, which includes early versions of songs like “Wasted & Ready” and “Harriet's Got A Song,” will finally be coming out via his own label, The Noise Company. He also talks about the work he's been doing recently to collaborate with Jason Schwartzman (who is among the guests on Cover The Mirrors) to record new music for Schwartzman's long-dormant band Coconut Records.
