Our Thursday episodes are all about big topics in the news, and this week we're wrapping up our short series on one of the biggest topics of all: generative AI. In our last couple episodes, we talked a lot about some of the biggest, most complicated legal and policy questions surrounding the modern AI industry, including copyright lawsuits and deepfake legislation. But we wanted to end on a more personal note: How is this technology making people feel, and in particular how is it affecting how people communicate and connect? Verge reporter Miya David has covered AI chatbots — specifically AI romance bots — quite a bit, so we invited her onto the show to talk about how generative AI is finding its way into dating. We not only discussed how this technology is affecting dating apps and human relationships, but also how the boom in AI chatbot sophistication is laying the groundwork for a generation of people who might form meaningful relationships with so-called AI companions. At our Virtual Morning Minyan on September 28th, Rabbi Lizzi puzzled over the plight of Moshe at the end of the Torah. Why does the man who delivered us from bondage (and received the Torah itself!) not live to see culmination of that labor? Why does the narrative of the Torah leave off with Moshe dying before making it into the Promised Land? Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks may have some insight into this Mosaic mystery.Every weekday at 8:00 am, Mishkan Chicago holds a virtual Morning Minyan. 'Customers are always going to say, oh, the reason that we don't do business with you is your price. That's BS. Price is not the reason. It's a good excuse. It's your job to find the real reason."A question that has come up recently: “Why are we the last choice for a specific customer? They call us when they're in crisis and we help them out. Then, nothing. How do we move to being a first-choice or regular supplier?”In this episode of The Chemical Show, host Victoria Meyer explores why some companies are the last-choice supplier for their target customers and provides specific tactics on how to become a first-choice supplier instead. She discusses the various factors that contribute to a company's status as a last-choice supplier, including timing, limited offerings, poor reputation, and corporate fit. By understanding their target customers' business and procurement strategy, fixing any issues in their offering, and demonstrating improvement and value, companies can become a first-choice supplier, rather than a last-choice one.Our Thursday episodes will address key questions from listeners and strategic or tactical topics of relevance to chemical industry leaders.Have a question that you'd like addressed on a future episode? The fans are the winners. Talked about Scott Walker and why he has left the team. Understands why when you couple his family obligations with his style of hockey. Talked about Canada Soccer cancelling the friendly vs Iran. Talked about CFL bargaining. Believes this league is better when you have high-profile American players. Talked about Alex Chiasson. JPat would put him on the bottom of his list for FA’s. Wait till everything has been looked at.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Our Thursday regular, Scott Rintoul, joined for a wide look in the world of sports. Started off with the Canucks win in Vegas. Talked about EP40 and the season he has had. Tied Allvin superstar comments and his 4 point performance. Not saying that it is a direct result but if he had that relayed to him, he should want to go out and prove him wrong. Talked about Bo Horvat. Doesn’t think he will retire a Canuck but is simply playing the odds. Talked about Bruce Boudreau and if he will be back. Talked about the bevy of sports this weekend. Excited for MLB opening day. The Jays have him eager for it. Masters is so special. Our Canucks reporter, JPat joined us. Naturally started talking about how Tiger did in his first round at the Masters. Not a perfect round but expectations were pretty low to start. To be within striking distance of the lead is pretty impressive. Talked about the resurgence of EP40. Thinks he needed 40 games after the layoff and injury last year. Doesn’t want to compare him to Miller but noted that JT has a better production rate in the same amount of time. It was remarkably complete effort by Pettersson. For Jeff, it was the playmaking and the complete 200 foot game. Things that we haven’t seen overall from start to finish. You hope that he can hit next season running with this lead up of 40 games. He will be without the contract distractions. Doesn’t think the Petey took Allvin’s comments personally. Talked about the special teams and turnaround in-season. JPat has never seen anything like it in his career with this club. Talked about Spencer Martin after reports of a one-way contract. Think’s it’s a good move to bring him up. When opportunity knocked, he was there. Nobody will forget the 50 saves vs EDM, even in a losing effort. You’ve hear this management talk about cap space. Talked about Bo Horvat. Logical side of the brain says he doesn’t retire a Canuck. We don’t truly know what this management group thinks of Bo. Not trying to run him out of town but will just say no at this point. There will be another uniform worn by Bo when it’s all said and done. Talked about Brad Richardson. There was 8 years between game winning goals for him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our Thursday regular, Scott Rintoul, joined Matt and Blake for a ranging conversations on a busy day in sports. Started off by chatting about the “ballsiest” effort by the Canucks in COL. Talked about the problem with officiating in the NHL. Answered the poll question by going off the board and saying it’s actually the difference between regular season and playoffs. Talked about the discrepancy in calls for 4th liners and star players. Talked about the week for Jaro Halak. Talked about Canada Soccer. JPat in his regular spot. Started off with talking about the effort in COL and wondered where it’s been all season. Talked about the remainder of the road trip. Glad that the team was able to overcome some bad calls last night. Happy that isn’t the narrative and final nail in the coffin. Talked about the effort of Jaro Halak.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our Thursday regular, Vancouver Sportscaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake in his regular slot. Talked about the Canucks winning games despite peak Demko. Talked about who he sees getting moved at the deadline, league wide. Talked about who the Seahawks could be targeting. Don’t see them going the Mayfield route. JPat joined us in his regular spot. Tells us that it’s possible to go to bed in a playoff spot. It’s absolutely crazy to think of when you think about where they were. You are required to scoreboard watch on a nightly basis. JPat doesn’t see a way that Motte with be here by noon on Monday. Talked about Thatcher Demko and his usage. We don’t fully know where his breaking point is, if you want to use that term. Talked about the run of form lately for the Red Wings. It’s not good… Talked about agent twitter with Miller’s agent chiming in. Former Canucks AGM and Daily Face Off Contributor, Chris Gear joined Matt and Blake to talk about the upcoming trade deadline and what it looks like on the inside of an organization. Says it’s weird to be focused on 32 teams, rather than just one. Talked about a few of the deals that have already happened. Talked about the Canucks. Says they have some choices to make with Motte. He is a bit of Swiss army knife. Talked about Boeser. They could reverse salary arbitrate if they want. Lots of options. Current management are very capable. Players take teams to arbitration all the time. There is nothing wrong with it even though it doesn’t happen often but Chris thinks it's a viable option. Talked about Vegas. Talked about Edmonton. Goaltending has been a little better. They made a trade for Kane earlier so they may not want to tinker too much. If you have McDavid and Draisaitl, you need to make the playoffs. So Holland might be feeling it a little bit.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our Thursday regular, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake. Talked about JT Miller. Believes that his value won’t necessarily decrease as the deadline looms, Talked about Bo Horvat. Says his numbers aren’t for a lack of effort. The leadership changes with the times. Talked about Connor Garland. If this is a team that gets into the playoffs, this is a player that would show up. Talked about how the forwards should be deployed. Talked about the Whitecaps. Talked about the importance of hand size for QB’s. Says this isn’t a thing and it’s so much to do about nothing. Whitecaps Colour Commentator, Colin Miller joined Matt and Blake ahead of the weekend clash vs NYCFC. Says the Caps have to be at their best vs the defending champions. We need to see more aggression and passion for the jersey. Talked about how they should deploy tactically. Thinks Hasal is going to be a good goalkeeper. Doesn’t think he is a defined number one keeper yet. For the most part he hasn’t let the club down. When you’ve had one of the top 2 or 3 keepers in the league then put a young lad in, it’s the deep end. Saying they need a better keeper isn’t a criticism of Hasal but someone with more experience wouldn’t be a bad thing. Talked about being a member of the only Canadian team to qualify for the world cup. Tony Waiters only took 18 players down and he was one of the four that were left in Vancouver. Talked about this version of the mens national team on the verge of qualification. This is arguably the most entertaining Canada side. Says the timing is good with other teams in the region being so poor. Talked about John Herdman. Says he is the best at detail. Working with him, you think you are going to war with how much preparation there is.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our Thursday regular and longtime Vancouver sportscaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake today. Talked about his thoughts on Cammi Granato being named the Canucks AGM. Says she is a better person than hockey player. Seeing how she is in the Hall of Fame, that tells you all you need to know. Can thank a change in philosophy, spearheaded by Jim Rutherford. Talked about the Leafs coming to Vancouver. Talked about who he likes for SB on Sunday. His heart is with the Bengals. Brain says the Rams find a way to get it done. Chase and Cupp are fantastic to watch. Talked about who could win MVP. Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson joined Matt and Blake. Talked about how he didn’t see so many goals coming vs the NYI. Talked about the plan for Luke Schenn the next 6 weeks, leading into the deadline. Talked about how quickly it all came down with Cammi. Thinks it was important for the braintrust to be in the building to see a first period that was it was against the Isles. Our Go Goat Sports colleague, AJ Mleczko from On The Bus and Olympic analyst joined Matt and Blake to talk about her co-host and new Canucks AGM, Cammi Granato. Talked about how big it is for the industry to have 2 female AGM’s in the Canucks organizations. These aren’t token hires. They are so well qualified. Cammi is an incredible leader. Wondered aloud how Cammi was the first female scout in the NHL. Thinks it will be easier on her family with border crossings not coming into play as much as when she was in SEA. Talked about the Cammi she knows. Not the most raw-raw leader but she unified the team and got them on the same rope, pulling in the same direction. She has a very strong sense of herself and great opinions. She is willing to hear all sides. Talked about the kind of player that Cammi will gravitate to. Says she can appreciate the whole team and that a team needs a variety of different players. She is very detail orientated in the way she scouts players. Believes she is one of the most thorough scouts out there. If she wants this to be the next step to running a hockey team, it will be up to her but it’s in the realm of possibility. Talked about the Canada v US game recently in women's Olympic hockey. Thinks the US dominated overall but they ran into trouble with the shot blocking. Didn’t think the US PP was very good. Canada takes a lot of penalties but are so confident with their PK. Loved the intensity. You can say every game is meaningless but every game these two countries play is another chapter. Both teams will be hungrier for a little bit more if and when they meet for the Gold Medal game. Talked about the TorStar opinion column about women’s hockey in the Olympics. It’s absurd. You can’t watch that game and not be entertained. At some point the rest of the world will catch up. On the men’s side, it is so unpredictable. There is something that makes that very fun.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
