Editors - Geoff Richman ACE, Joe Landauer, Keith Fraase ACE The Severance editing team of Geoff Richman, Joe Landauer and Keith Fraase discuss their experiences and creative processes for the hit show's second season. They talk about their initial impressions of the project, preparation to join the show, and specific challenges in editing various episodes. Highlights include creating complex montages, handling visual effects, maintaining geographic and narrative coherence, and managing ambitious scenes like Mark's dual-dialogue via a DV camera. They also discuss the excitement of uncovering scripts and scenes as the series progresses. Created by Dan Erickson and exec produced (and often directed) by Ben Stiller, SEVERANCE follows employees at the biotechnology corporation Lumon Industries who have undergone "severance"—a medical procedure that ensures they retain no memories of the outside world while at work and have no recollection of their job once they leave. This results in two distinct personalities for each employee: the "innie", who exists solely within Lumon, and the "outie", who lives their personal life outside of work. GEOFF RICHMAN, ACE Geoffrey Richman, ACE, is a picture editor known for his work on both scripted and unscripted film and TV. Earlier credits include work on documentaries such as Murderball and Sicko, as well as documentary series such as Anthony Bourdain's A Cook's Tour. Geoffrey is also known for his work on the documentary The Cove, in addition to his editing work for Mike Birbiglia's comedy specials Thank God For Jokes and The New One. Additional credits include work on scripted mini series such as Escape at Dannemora. Most recently Geoffrey has worked on 2020's Tiger King, Til Kingdom Come, as well as Palmer for Apple TV+. JOE LANDAUER Joe Landauer is an editor known for Signs (2002), Time Cut (2024) and Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between (2022) KEITH FRAASE, ACE Originally intending to be an actor, Keith Fraase fell in love with behind-the-camera work while at the University of Texas at Austin. Then he thought he wanted to be a cinematographer, but eventually fell into an apprentice editor job with Sandra Adair, ACE, to replace a friend who was leaving that position on Elvis and Annabelle (2007). Since then, he has worked on projects such as This the Night, Naomi Osaka, and Past Lives, for which he was nominated for an ACE Eddie Award. Lucy and Eugene sing Victoria Mboko's praises after her strong showing at the Miami Open where Jasmine Paolini – “The Queen of Italy” – made a run to the semi-finals after taking out Naomi Osaka en route. Osaka, who saw off Hailey Baptiste in the third round, also turned in some good performances during her run to the round of 16. Florida girl Coco Gauff, who dished out a bagel, also reached the last 16. Arthur Fils made it back-to-back Masters 1000 quarter-finals, getting the better of Frances Tiafoe and world No 2 Alexander Zverev along the way, before getting done in by some unfortunate scheduling. We also share our thoughts on the PTPA lawsuit, Daria Kasatkina becoming an Aussie, Sloane Stephen's Doc&Glo brand winning an award, Serena's tennis watching habits and grade the first quarter of 2025. Ben and Tumaini reconvene to try to make sense of the big lawsuit filed by the PTPA and a group of lesser-known players against the powers-that-be in tennis, what we make of the organization, and this big swing they're taking after years of not being recognized. What do we make of the PTPA's 163-page laundry list of claims? What points resonate and which don't? And is there an inconsistency between their purported purpose for players and the arguments they're making? (You can also read Ben's interview with PTPA executive director Ahmad Nassar.) After spending the first 40 minutes on that, we discuss other topics that have emerged in the past week or so, including Novak Djokovic's image being frequently used by right-wing politicians, the current ATP inconsistency, Emma Raducanu's struggles and resurgence, and Naomi Osaka's trajectory. We end with a melancholy happy trails to author John Feinstein, and lots of love for NCR's dear Courtney. Thank you for listening! Novak Djokovic is one win away from a potential Olympic final rematch with Carlos Alcaraz after beating Tomas Machac on Night 6, but not without signs of fatigue. Marathon man Jack Draper has edged out Aleks Vukic in another five-set thriller, leaving Alex de Minaur as the sole Australian left in singles. Arthur Fils' campaign has ended in injury, as has Naomi Osaka's, sending fellow mother Belinda Bencic into the fourth round — her next opponent is Coco Gauff who's a step closer to a SF rematch with Aryna Sabalenka after the world No.1 booked in a R16 date with Mirra Andreeva. Jessica Pegula is out in straight sets at the hands of Olga Danilovic, while Donna Vekic has downed Diana Shnaider in a three-hour epic — experts Simon Rea and Lou Pleming analyse the win and preview Day 7 action: Elina Svitolina v Jasmine Paolini and Ben Shelton v Lorenzo Musetti. Have no fear, I'll still take what's out there and deliver another entertaining hour of sports talk as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck: (6:36) I'd be remiss to not shoutout my son who's celebrating a birthday today as he turns 35 years old. (7:14) The best weekend of the NFL year is upon us. Divisional Playoff weekend is forthcoming. There are plenty of juicy storylines heading into these four matchups. The quest for a three-peat if your'e the Chiefs. The Lions attempt to get to their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Both Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen thirsting for a trip to New Orleans to represent the AFC. I'll breakdown and analyze what will take place on Saturday and Sunday as we're one step closer to Super Bowl LIX. I'll also get into the circus in Dallas surrounding departed head coach, Mike McCarthy. Is it possible that Deion Sanders is waiting in the wings? Why this isn't a good move for Deion OR Jerry Jones, if this were the case? (50:10) All is quiet in the Association and not much has happened over the past few days in the NBA. (54:32) Same can be said for the NHL as you have a slew of games over the next few days that aren't anything to write home about. (57:46) Japanese star pitcher Roki Sasaki has narrowed down his list to three teams that he'll sign with. (Dodgers, Padres, Blue Jays) I'll tell you where he'll be the man, a place where he'll beat the man or be among the men. I'm sure you can figure that out. (1:01:56) There have been a couple of mild upsets down under at the Australian Open, but the big story heading into the first weekend of the tournament is the play of Naomi Osaka. Will she continue her stellar play into next week and generate serious buzz for the two time Aussie champion? Kicking off season 6 with a bang as we head down under to preview the 2025 Australian Open. We look at the odds for the favorites to win on both the men's and women's side. Naomi Osaka was forced to retire up a set in the finals of Auckland on Sunday, but Jimmy is optimistic about her comeback to the game. Can she return to her major winning ways in 2025? Coco Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek and helped propel team USA to a win at the United Cup last week. That's 2 wins in a row for Gauff against Swiatek who had dominated their head to head up to that point, what has Coco figured out? Alexander Bublik made some comments this week about the "circus" surrounding Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal's retirements. Hideki Matsuyama broke the PGA record for lowest score ever in an event by posting -35 to win The Sentry in Kapalua over the weekend. Could this mean a 2nd green jacket could be in order later this year at the Masters for the Japanese player? Ben and Tumaini are back together again in Melbourne, teeing up a season that started earlier than ever before, and a first week that ended with a classic. We discuss the United Cup, which reached a peak in the final with Coco Gauff beating Iga Swiatek, turning what had been a hopelessly lopsided rivalry into an absolute thriller, a shift that could have major ramifications atop women's tennis. We also discuss the rest of the United Cup, a successful event that really seems to have found its footing. We also discuss Naomi Osaka's run to the final in Auckland, which ended in an abrupt injury retirement after winning the first set. We then cover Tumaini's trip to Brisbane, where there was a servebot renaissance and a chatty Novak Djokovic. On a more serious topic, we then cover the WTA confirming the existence of an investigation into Elena Rybakina's controversial coach Stefano Vukov, as reported by The Athletic. What do we know and—what don't we know—about the case at this juncture? Then to end with much more fun, Tumaini takes the "Z" Trivia quiz Ben recently wrote for Bounces. Thank you for listening!
