January 11th, 2025 is the 20th Anniversary of this legendary day at the Tower. Since its the 25th Anniversary, we decided to re-release this episode. Enjoy! January 11th, 2000 is a very historic day in Oklahoma City concert history. Slipknot was scheduled to play the Tower Theater for the 3rd time. The first show, they didn't have enough room to play the show due to being the opener on a Coal Chamber & Machine Head Package Tour. Max & Jimmy Johnson from Element, scramble, put their heads together to figure out how to get Slipknot back to OKC to play a headlining date. They have an off day on a Monday 10 days later, resulting in Slipknot coming back to play for 400 or so people with Element & Lowlife opening the show. Max see's the popularity of the band growing & wants to bring them back through again & the January 11th, 2000 date was booked. Keep in mind, during this time, 23rd street OKC, was not the nice vibrant neighborhood that it is now! It was a dangerous place to be with vacant store fronts everywhere. We set down with Max Baker Jr. & Jeff Brownen to tell their accounts of what happned that day, where they were during the chaos, the discussions between the band management & the booking agent, & paying the band, all before Slipknot decided not to play. There were rumors for years about what happened that night, Hopefully this clears up some of the chaos & confusion & brings people back together! Published & Aired Feb. 28th, 2000 on MTV News - "It was a bad gig, man. We learned out lesson," Corey Taylor (#8) continued. "We're never going to play there again. We're going to play a place that will hold everybody. And he will not be involved," percussionist Shawn Crahan (#6) added. https://www.mtv.com/news/k9uiqu/slipknot-has-its-say-on-oklahoma-city-concert-flap Fast Forward 22 years later to 2022 & Max Baker Jr. was involved in a Slipknot show in Oklahoma, where his company The Baker Boys did production load in & load out.... and yes, Max was in the building, from start to finish! Riverbend Easter 2024, at the Tower Theatre in Bend, Oregon.
Original Air Date: Monday 1 April, 9 pm Eastern Description: It's April Fools' Day, and what better way to celebrate than by spending an hour enjoying the spirited, irreverent conversation of two fools who have been changing the way people listen to the internet since May of 2007? This week, Dean and Phil discuss the stand-up comedy of Ali Wong, the performance artistry of Laurie Anderson, the beauty of the Fox Theatre in Detroit, the Orpheum Theatre in DTLA, the significance of the Tower Theatre just down the street from the Orpheum, and the Apple Store it now houses. They dig into "True Detective: Night Country", and celebrate the great Japanese suspense picture Woman in the Dunes, marveling at the fascinating life of its director, Hiroshi Teshigahara. Two Francis Coppola epics, one disastrous, one just completed, both go under the microscope, and in "Celebrity Deaths", two all-time great actors get remembered.
Mark Forward, who headlines the Letterkenny Presents: A night of Stand-up comedy tour, joined the show this morning. Mark will be performing at the Tower Theatre on Monday, March 11.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Young heroes bound in love and kinship are forced on a quest to discover the truth behind the magic of dragons and seek those that stole it, before their world itself is destroyed by the growing power of the Dark Army.. Raised by former knights in hiding, they have grown up taking on different skills, each one unique and valuable to each other. Not only use of magic or mastery of a sword they are also tied to a great destiny. A destiny foretold in lost tomes they have yet to discover, but their world is cloaked in a great shadow that is spreading like a sickness which they seek to overcome. Young Cordelia the fire mage, squire-in-training Benedict, sailor Zorin and the deadly swordmaster Sophie fall under the tutelage of Elloveve Hawklight. a secretive yet legendary elven scout archer when their home town of OallEnAkhan is destroyed. Destroyed by the local Justice, and Zorin's father, Lord Pallus and his Dark Army. An army growing increasingly more powerful with the addition of a powerful dark cleric of an evil queen of death and her legions of dragons. Finding themselves a decade older yet escaping the ashes of yet another lost home they set out to find passage across the great sea to the Ivory Library. Seeking knowledge within its infinite halls guarded by the ancient order of Stone Monks Cordelia finds the answer. They must find the dragons of virtue and seek their help to turn the tide. All knowledge has its price though, and Cordelia must pay for it by recording her own story, and reliving the worst night of her life all over again. This is what takes place in just the first season of this clean family-friendly, fantasy epic. Originally created simply to record the events of a collaborative roleplaying game it has now grown to a production including over 80 voice actors, original scoring and sound design by the game master himself, and resulting in hours of quality entertainment. Many of the echoes of life's struggles came out organically at the table between the players as friends and were captured in the story. Struggles that come with lessons, and overall those lessons are to be a better person, both to those around them as well as themselves. As 2022 comes to an end, Sunday Morning Matters takes a look back on the year's political news. A year filled with political controversy and investigation, even allegations of extortion and courtroom drama. The year also featured a heated Fresno City Council with disagreements over the Tower Theatre, councilmember pay raises and providing money for Planned Parenthood. Also, school board meetings become ground zero for a war of words and Joseph Castro's rise to become CSU chancellor - then his resignation. The year ended with a midterm election that could impact politics in the Central Valley for years to come. The year's big stories are all broken down in Sunday Morning Matters' Year in Review.

US officials are rushing to provide more help and weapons to Ukraine because, they said, that is making a difference in the war. But that is precisely what Russian officials are blaming for an escalation in this conflict. Former NFL football player and philanthropist Jack Brewer is demanding MSNBC host Joy Reid apologize for her tweet claiming a photo of young Black boys attending an event where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an anti-critical race theory bill "is tantamount to child abuse." Brewer explained the boys in the photo are students of his education and mentorship programs and were well aware of why they were attending the event. After a delay of nearly a week, the Florida Department of Education has released two examples that it says back up its rejection of dozens of math textbooks because they contained questions and exercises based on Common Core or critical race theory, issues that opponents say are not actual problems. Despite being told by the city attorney that his options are limited, Mayor Jerry Dyer is looking into what authority he has over the Fresno City Council's vote to purchase the Tower Theatre. Raised by former knights in hiding, they have grown up taking on different skills, each one unique and valuable to each other. Young Cordelia the fire mage, aspiring knight Benedict, bright-eyed mariner Zorin and the deadly swordmaster Sophie are not only bonded by use of magic or mastery of a sword, they are also tied to a great destiny - a destiny foretold in lost tomes they have yet to discover. But first their world is one now cloaked in a great shadow that is spreading like a sickness which they seek to overcome. In this scene our heroes are locked in the defense of the celestine tower, an ancient castle watching over the vast plain of the great valley. They are under siege by dragons and other dark forces of an invading army. While some of our heros are exploring its ancient halls above looking for assistance we begin by joining young benedict, to stand by his side on the battlefield. Originally created simply to record the events of a collaborative roleplaying game, Dice Tower Theatre has now grown to a production including over 80 voice actors, original scoring and sound design by the game master himself, resulting in hours of quality entertainment. Many of the echoes of life's struggles came out organically at the table between the players as friends and were captured in the story. Those struggles come with lessons, and overall those lessons are to be a better person, both to those around them as well as to themselves.
