Maja Aro is an in-demand stunt performer and stunt coordinator whose credit list includes box office blockbusters, network television, and indie fare. Maja was a stunt artist and stunt coordinator on ABC's hit fantasy series Once Upon A Time and Amazon Prime's delicious dystopian epic The Man in the High Castle, and she recently served as stunt coordinator on A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting, a Netflix production that was helmed by legendary director Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl, Doctor Who). She's been nominated for a Taurus World Stunt Award, multiple UBCP/ACTRA Awards, and in 2017, she won the Innovation Spotlight Award from Women in Film and Television Vancouver. In recent years, while coordinating and performing stunts, Maja has also been developing her voice as a filmmaker. Maja's first solo film – Hoods – won the MPPIA short film competition at Whistler 2015. Hoods placed iconic characters like Little Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood in a dark, gritty, diesel-punk, alternate-1940s fantasy world, and it won Maja the award for Best Director at the 2017 Artemis Film Festival. Maja is also a fashion designer, a graphic novelist, a mentor, and, with her husband, fellow stunt coordinator and performer Jeff Aro, she loves to play: in the snow, on mountains, on dirt bikes and on horseback and upside and sideways. In this wide-ranging interview, Maja talks about #stuntlife, safety, screen storytelling, and the psychology of stunt artists. Episode Sponsor: Liquid Amber Tattoo and Art Collective
