Prof. Kevin Ellis and Dr. Zenna Tavares talk about making AI smarter, like humans. They want AI to learn from just a little bit of information by actively trying things out, not just by looking at tons of data. They discuss two main ways AI can "think": one way is like following specific rules or steps (like a computer program), and the other is more intuitive, like guessing based on patterns (like modern AI often does). They found combining both methods works well for solving complex puzzles like ARC.A key idea is "compositionality" - building big ideas from small ones, like LEGOs. This is powerful but can also be overwhelming. Another important idea is "abstraction" - understanding things simply, without getting lost in details, and knowing there are different levels of understanding.Ultimately, they believe the best AI will need to explore, experiment, and build models of the world, much like humans do when learning something new.SPONSOR MESSAGES:***Tufa AI Labs is a brand new research lab in Zurich started by Benjamin Crouzier focussed on o-series style reasoning and AGI. This week on In a World!, we're stepping into the pastel-colored, chaos-filled world of The Royal Tenenbaums—Wes Anderson's bittersweet tale of genius, failure, and questionable parenting. But this episode is more than just a deep dive into one of Anderson's best films—it's also a tribute to the legendary Gene Hackman, who delivered one of his finest (and most hilariously selfish) performances as Royal Tenenbaum.Join me as I break down the film's perfectly dysfunctional family, Anderson's signature style, and why The Royal Tenenbaums still hits just as hard over 20 years later. Plus, we'll discuss Hackman's incredible career and why this movie would have been the perfect final bow. So grab your Dalmatian mice, avoid BB gun fights, and settle in for a Tenenbaum-sized dose of film talk

Renowned aging in place expert Louis Tenenbaum shares his thoughts on today's $150 billion remodeling industry to meet the needs of older adults. The author of the CAPS Certified Aging in Place course and Aging Place 2.0 white paper shares information on his SBIR grant and introduction of a bill to Congress that would provide incentives for making aging place home modifications. About Louis Louis Tenenbaum is the Founder and CEO of HomesRenewed Ventures. He is a multifaceted professional who has left an indelible mark on the intersections of building, aging, and policy. With a dynamic career spanning several decades, he is recognized as a leading figure in advocating for aging in place and home accessibility. Key Takeaways The CDC definition of aging in place is the ability to remain in your home throughout your life, regardless of your health or condition. Aging in place is carrying out your years with dignity in the home. People have changed and the built environment needs to change to catch up. “Hospital at home is a trend but there is no infrastructure. Family homes are not designed to provide medical care. Roughly 5% of homes in the U.S. meet three out of these five accessibility factors, according to the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS). Five accessibility factors: 1. No-step entries, 2. Single-floor living, 3. Wide doorways and hallways, 4. Accessible bathrooms, 5. Lever-style door handles. Aging in Place 3.0 is about interconnected ROI—a seamless, systematic model for delivering aging in place services. Stakeholders need to understand that their ROI depends on other stakeholders. The interconnected return comes from the system. Fall prevention needs to move upstream. Once you've fallen, you have missed out on the value of prevention. Since most falls happen in the shower, why not have grab bars?

A legal note: Over the course of this podcast, a number of allegations are made against Viaguard Accu-Metrics and its employees. When asked, company owner Harvey Tenenbaum said he stands by the test, and that any errors were caused by customers during sample collection.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Few pop groups are making music as imaginative as Magdalena Bay. The Los Angeles-based duo of singer Mica Tenenbaum and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Lewin, have been steadily releasing music since 2016, eventually breaking out with their viral hit “Killshot,” four years later. In the last four years, their work has dabbled in everything from 70's disco-pop to Y2K pastiche. Their music, often narrative-based and paired with equally stunning visuals, excels in balancing tension; there's gossamer-sounding production juxtaposed with dark, conceptual lyrics, or chaotic cacophony placed alongside ironic euphoria. Their sophomore album Imaginal Disk is out today, and is no exception. The record is a concept album of sorts, as it follows the story of a character named True, after receiving a “consciousness upgrade” in the form of the titular “imaginal disk.” Over the course of fifteen songs, Tenenbaum and Lewin tell a story about identity, technology, and what it means to be a human. It's a lofty record, so Switched On Pop's Reanna Cruz sat down with Magdalena Bay to talk about how this album manages to sound so gorgeous — and took some cues from ABBA in the process. Mica Tenenbaum and Matt Lewin of Magdalena Bay love hybrid cars. While I'm sure they appreciate the environmental benefits, it's the humming sound the cars make that the duo finds inspiring. In fact, they find inspiration in everything around them, visually and sonically—even the act of Swiffering, as you'll hear on the podcast. Small surprise that Tenenbaum had 2002 voice memos of ideas on her phone when we spoke. Magdalena Bay's new album Imaginal Disk is out on Mom + Pop Records. The band's videos are incredible, so check those out too.
A week ago today, NATO wrapped up its 75th anniversary summit. At the event genuine support of Ukraine was on full display. Discussion of how to Trump-proof NATO dominated the agenda, partnerships with NATO's southern periphery were side stepped and the war in Gaza was largely ignored. All of this was choreographed to project unity and paper over disagreements within the alliance. But do such optics actually help to Order the Disorder? To find out we're joined by Jane Kinninmont – who was in Washington at the Summit. She tells Jason about the discussions on the margins of the summit – mostly about Joe Biden – and the glaring omission from the formal agenda: the Israel-Gaza conflict. She also shares a live-show discussion among her; Élie Tenenbaum, the Director of IFRI's Security Studies Centre in Paris, just back from a mission to Kyiv; and Dr. Isabelle Werenfels, a senior fellow at the German think tank SWP. The trio opine on their impressions of the summit, the key announcements on Ukraine (which were quite minimal), the role of Spain in raising the Gaza issue, and what a Trump presidency might mean for NATO. In this episode of Parenting Understood we speak with Dr. Harriet Tenenbaum about the importance of parent-child talk for a child's development. As we discuss, parents who speak more about emotions with their children help their children understand emotions better. Interestingly, there does not appear to be a large difference between explaining emotions to children and asking them questions about emotions in supporting their learning about emotions. We also address the role of parent talk in both children's understanding of scientific principles, and in gender stereotyping. It's almost reunion season — translated into stories, that theme seems to always include unrequited love and crushes, frustrated ambition, embarrassing attempts to impress, reliving lost youth, and shattered dreams. Some are dramedy, some straight-up drama, but reunion movies have one thing in common: characters whose pasts collide with the present in endlessly fascinating ways. And the plots nearly always involve a search for connection, romantic or otherwise. CW: explicit descriptions of sex acts, references to suicide, adult themeshttps://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comTV Show How to describe the first season of the anthology show The AfterParty?! Take one part Colombo, a dash of Magnum PI, a jigger of the most charming and cynical British whodunit, more than a smidge of Knives Out, the hilarious, streetwise, no-BS attitude of Tiffany Haddish set against an afterparty hosted by a celebrity for their high-school reunion, and you've got it.MoviesThe dancing in the kitchen! The deep affection! The musical beds! Reminisces and lost hope! The Big Chill captured a mood and a time, and the soundtrack and ensemble of gorgeous, talented actors was a big part of that."We can go to the reunion and just pretend to be successful!" Their simple plan goes gloriously haywire in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. Personally, I think this movie has become a modern classic thanks to the deliciously sarcastic Janine Garofalo, the daffy performances of Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow as Romy and Michele, and this interpretive dance scene. The soundtrack is a perfect time capsule as well. The Royal Tenenbaums isn't nearly as precocious and precious as Wes Anderson's later films (which I happen to love) and maybe he's an acquired taste. But the quirky intellectual Tenenbaum children are supposedly influenced by characters in JD Salinger novels, and that makes them fascinating to me. I wouldn't want a reunion with this family, but they sure are interesting to watch. This Is Where I Leave You starts with infidelity and siblings reuniting to mourn the death of their father, but that that doesn't prevent them from thrashing and fighting their way through some absurd, emotional situations. The script is subtle and quietly funny, leaning on the excellent ensemble cast to bring it home, and do they ever. It reminds me of another excellent reunion film, The Family Stone, which takes place at Christmas, with siblings trading partners —unexpectedly of course, for maximum dramady. I'm so not the demographic for raunchy comedy like Zack and Miri Make a Porno but I laughed out loud throughout this movie. Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen do such a beautiful job of anchoring the amusingly outrageous friends to lovers plot in their affection, and eventual love, for each other.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, please click share in your podcast app and tell your friends! Join us, if you like, in the perfectly imperfect house on Archer Avenue, where lived the once—great Tenenbaums, a family of geniuses. A decade of failure has brought us here, the Tenenbaum children scattered across New York and the seas, and their father, Royal, at last estranged. What will happen when we get everyone back under one roof? This is the start of our mini-series on the works of Wes Anderson, everyone's favorite symmetry-obsessed, pastel-painted auteur. In our exploration of The Royal Tenenbaums, we'll uncover mythological and historical connections hidden in the pastiche. Greek mythology, Roman family law, masculinity, and patriarchy are at play. — Check out our merch store for Midnight Myth, Boomerangerang, Sleep & Sorcery and Wheel of Ka tees and totes! Hello everyone and welcome to Some Like It Scott's newest Countdown miniseries: the Wes Anderson Countdown. To honor one of the great still-working indie writer-director auteurs, who's next film ASTEROID CITY comes out later this year, Scott, Scott, and Jay will be watching all 10 of the American filmmakers' works to-date, from his origins with the '90s heist-comedy BOTTLE ROCKET, all the way to his latest feature, 2021's star-studded anthology drama THE FRENCH DISPATCH. Join us each week over the next 10 weeks as we progress through Anderson's full oeuvre in the buildup to ASTEROID CITY! On the third episode of the Anderson Countdown, Scott, Scott, and Jay review Wes Anderson's 2001 family comedy-drama, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS. Created in the same style as RUSHMORE - directed by Wes Anderson and co-written by Anderson and Owen Wilson - THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS is narrated by Alec Baldwin but led by Tenenbaum family patriarch, Royal (Gene Hackman), who has been separated for over 20 years from his wife, Etheline (Anjelica Huston), who has custody of their 3 children, Chas (Ben Stiller), Richie (Luke Wilson), and the adopted Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow), all savants in one subject or another in their own right and who Royal takes advantage of without giving much, if anything, in return. Now down on his luck, Royal is evicted from the hotel he had been living in, and has nowhere to go except crawling back to the house where Etheline now lives out her retirement years. There, he learns that Etheline's new boyfriend, an accountant named Henry (Danny Glover), has proposed to her, and as a result, fakes having stomach cancer to try to win back his wife's and children's affections through pity. Chas, whose wife recently died as a result of a plane crash and who has become overprotective of his two children, Ari and Uzi; Richie, who is traveling the world on a cruise ship following his most recent breakup and who professes his love of his adopted sister Margot to his not-quite friend and confidant Eli (Owen Wilson); and Margot, who is married to an older neurologist, Raleigh St. Clair (Bill Murray) and who is depressed and hiding this fact from her husband and family; are all summoned to their father's "deathbed", a ruse which of course unravels rather quickly as each member of the Tenenbaum family is deeply familiar with Royal's wiliness. Royal will have to work a lot harder to win back the favor of his somewhat-estranged family and maybe even find personal redemption along the way. The countdown crew give their thoughts on Anderson's third film, including the nuanced themes, the ensemble cast's performances, and how Anderson's filmmaking style continues to refine and evolve.
Drew's back and he's carrying exactly $3,937 cash in a bag! (Or is it just a bunch of birdseed?) When Arnold, Gerald, and Sid find a bag filled with thousands of dollars in “Bag of Money”, it kicks off a nightmarish plot of distrust and cynicism among the friends. It's one of the most infamous episodes of Hey Arnold!, up there with “Arnold Betrays Iggy” as an episode nobody really likes! Why's that? Tune in! Mr. Wartz is OUT and Mr. Simmons is IN – as principal! – in “Principal Simmons”! When the crochety principal finally caves to criticism, the genteel educator steps into his shoes, but he doesn't really like what he finds. Yelling at kids all day long ain't exactly easy, y'know. Dr. Paul Alexander Liberty Hour – Suddenly, we have this flurry of research papers showing immune evasion from BQ and XBB sub-variants/clades. It is clear. The booster has failed. Yet we warned them, McCullough, Vanden Bossche, Risch, Yeadon, Tenenbaum, Oskoui, Ladapo, Cole, myself, etc. What did we know that they did not?
The Fun In Dysfunction theme continues with Dave's selection, 2001's The Royal Tenenbaums! What does the gang make of this ensemble cast of quirky characters colliding as a family unit? Does the film achieve a sense of grounded realism, or does Anderson walk us through a fairy-tale vision of New York City populated by larger-than-life figures? Which member of the titular Tenenbaum family do we each individually want to console with a hug? Throw on your signature red tracksuits and sprint through these questions and more this week! CW: This episode features discussions of incest and suicide that may prove difficult to some listeners.

Much of what we talk about on this podcast comes from a professional's perspective: the clinical interpretation of tests and what that means for women who need specific care. However, we relish the opportunity today to get the perspective of someone who works more personally with patients in the ultrasound room. Sara, one of the sonographers at Carnegie Imaging, joins us today to talk about her journey into sonography and how her role shapes the pregnancy experience for her patients.
THE THESIS: The greatest human rights crime in our lifetime has been imposed upon Americans by a group of bureaucratic tyrants and the so called party of small government refuses to run on it as an issue. They prefer war and gas. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Matthew 21:12-13 12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it ‘a den of robbers. THE NEWS & COMMENT: Daniel Horowitz has a comment for John Cornyn: “That's exactly how we felt when democracy was sacked here at home for two years. Why is it you only find a moral compass on foreign conflicts?” Pfizer offered me $1 million & $50,000 month wage; essentially to stop writing & hammering them/Bourla; I have had limited patchy broken income due to being canceled, smeared; I said NO!
