If you've heard the name Winklevoss, it's likely that you've watched the movie The Social Network. The movie featured a memorable depiction of the Harvard twins and Olympic rowers who sued Mark Zuckerberg for allegedly stealing their idea for a social network. Or you might know that Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss set up a crypto exchange called Gemini, which is currently involved in a very public dispute with the folks over at Genesis. Both Genesis and Gemini - We know, so many G names - are facing serious allegations from US regulators about their products and services. Or you might be familiar with their cover band, Mars Junction. Tyler's the lead singer; Cameron jams on guitar. The twins certainly lead a very interesting life - and according to the Bloomberg Wealth tracker, they're worth billions of dollars. That wealth comes in part from their early adoption of digital assets like Bitcoin - when they settled out of court with Zuckerberg, for around $65 million, they put some of their assets into crypto. To break down what's up with the Winklevoss twins and their presence in digital assets, Bloomberg reporter Olga Kharif joins this episode. Genesis Redone The 2021 COVID lockdowns meant we couldn't get together to record. This really impacted the sound quality on a couple of episodes, particularly the one about Genesis (Season 1 Ep 15)So, we've re-recorded that episode. The key facts are the same, but because our podcasts are a conversation and we don't work from a tight script, it's basically a new episode. If you've listened to the original episode already, you might like to see how different this one is. We think you'll be impressed. *************Genesis is regarded by many as one of the most exceptional bands ever produced by England, and never better than their 5-man line-up in the early 70's. Both Genesis and Steve Hackett completed COVID-delayed tours this year, so it's a great time to discover (or remember!) some of the finest music you'll ever encounter. In particular, we talk about two sublime albums, Selling England by the Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. “Selling England......” contains “Firth of Fifth”, a 9-minute-long ensemble piece with fluid guitar, delicate piano & synth parts, flute & vocal pieces, underpinned by a strong rhythm section in Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford. It's regarded by many to be the finest single work by Genesis! The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, regarded by Genesis fans as their best complete work, is a complex story targeted at the US, with many American cultural references mixed with mythical and supernatural elements. It contains both their most delicate AND hard-edged pieces, still sounding fresh decades later. ************************* Oh, by the way, we're taking a short break to travel around Australia. We'll be back with a bunch of new episodes on October 16. Stay with us – there's some great stuff coming up! Both Genesis 1:28 and Matthew 28:18-20 tell God's followers to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth with generations of faithful covenant-keepers. In this final Paradise Restored episode, Gary discusses how the knowledge of the glory of God will cover the earth, as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).
Both Genesis of the Hebrew Bible and the book of John from the Christian New Testament start off by describing, "In the beginning..." Although seemingly very different, both accounts uplift a personable God that resembles humanity in God's ability to speak, see, and work to uplift us away from the void and into the light and warmth of his/her love. Let's explore these verses side-by-side and see what empowering insights they can provide for our personal and communal walk in this life with the living Lord/Lady. Both Genesis 1-2 and Galatians 3, speak of the equality of men and women at creation, and as new creations in Christ. This does not mean that man and woman are identical or the same, but of equal value and standing with each other, and with God. Does this mean they equally share the same roles or functions in the church, or are any of these unique to gender? This week began to explore the two main views on this discussion and consider whether the diversity of roles of men and women was part of God’s creative design or a result of The Fall. The is one of 3 messages that are part of CBC's review on what the Bible teaches about appointing women to the position of Elders, Pastors and Teachers in the local church.
Krum & Rob Viktum || Bare Knuckle Gospel No one is perfect and most of us have regrets. We’ve hurt the ones we love most. We’ve made decisions that didn’t turn out the way we wanted. Those are the days we wish R. Kelly’s song “If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time” could come true for us. Then there are some who reminisce and wish they could go back to the days of old. So, what are we to do with those memories? No matter which boat we’re in, we’d be wise to heed three words Jesus spoke in Luke 17:32, “Remember Lot’s wife.” What’s so important about Lot’s wife? Both Genesis 19 and Luke 17 give us some context. Lot and his family lived in the city of Sodom after he separated from his uncle, Abraham. Sodom was a wicked and perverse city and God decided to destroy the city because of their wickedness. Yet, because Abraham prayed for his nephew, God showed mercy and provided a way of escape for Lot’s family by forewarning them of the impending destruction. They were told to flee without delay & to not look back until they reached safety. Lot …
