Breaking Free from Your Inner Pharaoh There are things in your mind that want to keep you trapped. Come learn God's plan to break you out of there! When I speak about “breaking free from Pharaoh,” I'm talking about the inner rulers that corner us with worry, shame, distraction, or that relentless inner critic that never seems satisfied. Scripture shows this pattern again and again, and Swedenborg opens it with such tenderness, reminding us that God bends every moment toward freedom and joy. Somewhere inside each one of us is a Moses moment where something holy catches fire and asks us to turn aside. I feel it when I see people realize that their spiritual captivity is real yet temporary, because God is already moving the waters that once looked impossible to cross. The journey takes time. Arcana Coelestia 1871. I cannot describe how the Lord’s Word appears before angels, but it can be grasped to some extent by people who have seen optical cylinders in museums. These cylinders reflect beautiful images from distorted drawings projected in a circle around them. Although the surrounding drawing appears to have no shape, organization, or pattern but to be simply a confused projection, it presents a lovely picture when focused onto the cylinder. 1 That is how the Lord’s Word is, especially the prophetic part of the Old Testament. Hardly anything can be seen in the literal meaning besides a disorganized jumble; but when it is read by a person on earth (particularly a little boy or girl), it gradually rises up, turning more beautiful and more pleasing as it goes. In the end it presents itself to the Lord as a human figure representing the whole of heaven — not as heaven actually is but as the Lord wishes it to be; in other words, as his likeness. 1. Although one scholar (Potts 1888-1902, under “cylinder”) understands this device to be a kaleidoscope, Swedenborg seems here to be referring to a device called an anamorphoscope, which produces an optical illusion called an anamorphosis. The cylinder is polished (as indicated in similar descriptions in New Jerusalem 260; White Horse 11:4; Spiritual Experiences [Swedenborg 1998-2002] §2164) and acts as a curved mirror; it is set next to a distorted drawing that is composed in such a way that the reflection of the drawing on the surface of the cylinder appears properly proportioned. For examples of anamorphoses from Swedenborg’s time and before, see Leeman and others 1976. (A reflecting cylinder may be seen in plate 53 there.) Further examples, though not of the same historical interest, can be found in McLoughlin Bros. 1979. [SS, LHC] AC 7847. Angelic ideas are of such a nature that natural things bear relation to such things as belong to man. The reason is that the spiritual world or heaven is in the form of a man, and all things of that world, that is, all spiritual things, which are truths and goods, bear relation to this form, as has been shown at the end of many chapters in treating of correspondences. And whereas in angelic ideas natural things become spiritual, so also does a house, which to the angels is the mind of man; the bedchambers and inner rooms being the interiors of the mind; and the windows, the doors, the posts, and the lintels, the exteriors of the mind, which introduce. As angelic ideas are of such a nature, they are also living; and so when the things in the natural world which are dead objects, pass into the spiritual world, they become living objects; for everything spiritual is living, because it proceeds from the Lord. On reciprocity Intercourse of the Soul and the Body 12. [4] Furthermore, unless the understanding could be separately perfected, and the will by means of it, a man would not be a man, but a beast. For without that separation, and without the ascent of the understanding above the will, he would not be able to think, and from thought to speak, but only to express his affection by sounds; neither would he be able to act from reason, but only from instinct; still less would he be able to know the things which are of God, and God by means of them, and thus to be conjoined to Him, and to live to eternity. For a man thinks and wills as from himself, and this as from himself is the reciprocal of conjunction; for there cannot be conjunction without a reciprocal, just as there cannot be conjunction of the active with the passive without reaction. God alone acts, and man suffers himself to be acted on, and he reacts in all appearance as from himself, though interiorly it is from God. Divine Love and Wisdom 49. With respect to God: it is impossible for Him to love others and to be loved reciprocally by others in whom there is anything of infinity, that is, anything of the essence and life of love in itself, or anything of the Divine. For if there were beings having in them anything of infinity, that is, of the essence and life of love in itself, that is, of the Divine, it would not be God loved by others, but God loving Himself; since the Infinite, that is, the Divine, is one only, and if this were in others, Itself would be in them, and would be the love of self Itself; and of that love not the least trace can possibly be in God, since it is wholly opposed to the Divine Essence. Consequently, for this relation to be possible there must be others in whom there is nothing of the Divine in itself. För länge sedan var det omsusat och vida känt, ett hus som inget annat hus i världen. För här serverades de döda semla med kokt mjölk, och här tänktes tankar och skrevs ord som stammade direkt från Gud. Just i detta lilla lusthus, på den tiden beläget vid Swedenborgs gård på Södermalm.Gården förföll efter Swedenborgs död och revs till slut. Kvar stod det ensamma lusthuset i uselt skick. Ett tag tjänade det som förvaringsbod och tillhåll för tjuvar, för att sedan bli museum: ett skynke med stjärnor fästes i taket, man ställde dit en kista med siaren som vaxdocka, och tog 10 öre i entré. Sedan fick Artur Hazelius upp ögonen för huset och på 1890-talet lyckades han köpa och flytta det till Skansen.Det blåser kallt i trädkronorna när jag en bister vårdag är på besök. Snart är det stängningsdags och de omgivande stadskvarteren ligger öde. Men vandrande i rosengården som omger lusthuset tänker jag på en annan vårdag, år 1745 i London. Där sjuder de trånga gränderna av liv. Klapprande hästkärror samsas med gastande fiskmånglerskor, garvare, slaktare och tiggande barn. Från dikena stiger stanken av jäsande sopor, byrackor skäller, studenter hyllar Newtons snille. Fred mellan Österrike och Bayern, ropar tidningsförsäljarna.In på källarkrogen längre ner på gatan stiger en adelsman, klädd i sliten svart rock, kråsskjorta och med peruk av tidens snitt. Under de pudrade lockarna skymtar ett avlångt ansikte med vaken blick och det försiktiga leendet är samtidigt barnsligt som distingerat. På en gropig gata i London hälsar han hövligt på den bibliske Moses, och tillbaka i Stockholm tar han emot de döda i sitt lusthus – han möter storheter som Platon, Aristoteles och Martin Luther, och en hel del vänner och fiender från sin egen tid.Vad nytt från jorden, brukar andarna nyfiket fråga.Inte sällan handlar nyheterna om den svenske profeten själv, vad han skrivit och förkunnat. Diskuteras religiösa frågor ger de döda honom alltid rätt – det är ju trots allt Gud själv som viskar i hans öra.På sina strövtåg i andevärlden möter han även varelser från andra planeter. Folket från Jupiter bor i låga hus med tak av vitblå bast och tycker om att sitta på fikonblad och äta långsamt, medan andarna från Saturnus är så troende att deras händer blir till knivar om någon vill locka dem bort från Gud.Hur kan då Swedenborg göra sig förstådd med dessa utomjordingar? Det går enkelt – alla talar svenska! Alla är de också noggrant indelade i olika mindre samfund, i en andlig värld som har formen av en gigantisk människokropp, homo maximus. Ja, det är ordning och reda i änglavärlden. Var sak på sin plats. Nästan som ett slags förtida folkhem för de döda, kan man tänka.Trehundra år efter Swedenborgs bortgång blickar lusthuset ut över de hårt tuktade blomsterhäckarna på Skansen. Rosorna har ännu inte slagit ut. Över Saltsjön sveper mörka molnslöjor in. Lusthuset står igenbommat och tyst. Men en gång i tiden var det fullt av musik och besökare. Här tog Swedenborg emot både döda och levande, och allsköns ärenden och trosfrågor avhandlades. För visst hade ämbetsmannakarriären bytts mot ett mer fritt liv, men var ändå inte lusthuset som ett slags kanslihus, öppet mot hela universum? Och Swedenborg den som bringade svensk ordning, också i livet efter detta.Några av de samtida besökarna såg sin värd som ett geni, medan andra hånade honom bakom hans rygg. Också hans biografier skildrar en komplex person: en man som med fradga kring munnen yrar om sig själv som Messias och rullar sig i gyttja, och en enastående intelligent människa, en av de mest betydande svenskarna genom tiderna.Jag slår mig ner på den kalla stentrappan utanför lusthuset och väntar på ett tecken av något slag. Men det andliga kanslihuset ruvar sina hemligheter väl. Precis som Swedenborg själv framstår det som en slags dubbelnatur. Stumt och uppryckt med rötterna förmår det inte riktigt vittna om sin storhetstid, men i en dikt av Hjalmar Gullberg för det sin egen talan:Kring anden som har flytt, var jag ett skal.Nu står jag övergiven med min sorg.Men jag var fylld av harpa och cymbal,när Gud kom på besök hos Swedenborg.Vad nytt från jorden, brukade andarna fråga sin besökare från livet. Trying to recover from defeat in 1812, Napoleon had enormous obstacles to overcome.  But these were NOT obvious at the time, surprisingly to us, most of the great and the good expected Napoleon to win in 1813.Tsar Alexander had some very unusual motivations for a major head of state in the Europe of the time.  These motivations, including the mysticisms of the day, are still fascinating.  Swedenborg, Lavater, and Saint Martin all get a look. And then there was a man of almost equal priggishness, Kaerl Heinrich Vom Stein, whose remarkable career and how he ties together Napoleon, Alexander and Frederick William and the new nationalism and new artistic and intellectual movements beginning to arise is worth a deep dive.Stein urged the King of Prussia “Make use of the authority granted you by God to break the chains of your people.  May its blood no longer be spent on behalf of the enemy of humanity!”  But the king was more interested in getting a Bonapart bride for the Crown Prince.The crusade against Napoleon, developed int a crusade for Legitimacy, against Usurpation, but even this early, the Allies could not help using the language of the Revolution and the tools of Napoleon.

Progressive states, no one(state) is condemned until they know (it is seen for what it is) ... Arcana Coelestia 7795... By these “wonders being multiplied” are signified the successive degrees of their states. The reason why there are so many degrees is in order that the evil may be confirmed in the fact that they are in evil; and also that the good may be enlightened concerning the state of those within the church who have lived evilly (n. 7633). Except for these reasons, the evil might be condemned and let down into hell without so many successive changes of states. [2] That before the evil are condemned and let down into hell they undergo so many states is altogether unknown in the world. It is believed that man is at once either condemned or saved, and that this is effected without any process; but the case is otherwise. Justice reigns there, and no one is condemned until he himself knows, and is inwardly convinced, that he is in evil, and that it is utterly impossible for him to be in heaven. His own evils are also laid open to him, according to the words of the Lord in Luke: There is nothing covered up, that shall not be revealed; or hidden, that shall not be known. Wherefore whatsoever ye have said in the darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in the bed chambers shall be proclaimed upon the housetops (Luke 12:2-3; Matthew 10:26-27; Mark 4:22); and what is more, he is also warned to desist from evil; but when he cannot do this because of the dominion of evil, the power is then taken away from him of doing evil by falsifications of truth and pretenses of good, which is effected successively from one degree to another, and finally condemnation follows and the letting down into hell. This takes place when he comes into the evil of his life. [3] The evil of the life is evil of the will and of the thought thence derived; thus it is the man's inward quality and what would be his quality outwardly if he were not hindered by the laws, and likewise by fears of the loss of gain, of honor, of reputation, and of life. This is the life which follows every man after death, but not the outward life, except that which proceeds from the inward life; for in outward things a man pretends what is contrary; and therefore when a man after death is being vastated in respect to outward things, it then plainly appears what had been his quality both in will and in thought. To this state every evil person is reduced by means of degrees of vastation, for all vastation in the other life advances from outward to inward things. From all this it can be seen what is the nature of the justice in the other life, and what the nature of the process before an evil person is condemned. From this it is evident that by “My wonders being multiplied in the land of Egypt,” is signified that the evil may be confirmed in the fact that they have been in no faith, but in evil. Heaven and Hell 513 1. [Swedenborg's footnote] Shattering experiences do happen in the other life — that is, some people who arrive there from the world are shattered there: Arcana Coelestia 698, 7122, 7474, 9763. Upright people are shattered as regards false elements, and evil people as to true ones: 7474, 7541-7542. Shattering experiences happen to upright people so that they can shed the earthly and worldly preoccupations they acquired while they were living in the world: 7186, 9763; and so that evil and false things may be removed, providing room for the inflow of good and true things out of heaven from the Lord, and providing the ability to accept them: 7122, 9331 [9330?]. We cannot be raised into heaven before things like this are removed because they get in the way and do not agree with heavenly values: 6928, 7122, 7136 [7186?], 7541-7542, 9763. This is how people who are to be raised into heaven are prepared: 4728, 7090. It is dangerous for people to enter heaven before they have been prepared: 537-538.

And Jehovah said unto Moses and unto Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month is to you the head of the months; this is the first to you in the months of the year. Speak ye unto all the assemblage of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month they shall take to them everyone a lamb* for the house of his fathers, a lamb for the house; and if the house is too little for a lamb, then let him take he and his neighbor near unto his house in the number of the souls; everyone for the mouth of his eating shall ye count for the lamb. A lamb unblemished, a male, a son of a year shall be for you; ye shall take it from the lambs and from the she-goats;** and it shall be for you to be kept even unto the fourteenth day of this month; and the whole congregation of the assemblage of Israel shall kill it between the two evenings.  Exodus 12: 1-6 * The word “lamb” here (Latin pecud-, Hebrew seh) must be understood to mean the young of both sheep and goats, as defined in verse 5, and also by Swedenborg himself in n. 8020. Thus it is either a lamb or a kid. We have no word in English that will precisely render either the Hebrew term or the Latin one. In verse however, the word “lambs,” near the end of the verse, is agnus in the Latin, and keves in the Hebrew, and thus is correctly rendered “lambs.” [Reviser].** Latin capra, Hebrew ez, a “she-goat,” the mother being taken for her little one. Both “kids” and “she-goats” signify “the innocence of the external or natural man, thus the truth and the good of innocence” (Arcana Coelestia n. 3518, subdivisions 3 and 4). [Reviser.] Arcana Coelestia 7814. Man has been so created that he can look upward, or above himself; and can also look downward, or below himself. To look above himself is to look to his neighbor, to his country, to the church, to heaven, especially to the Lord; but to look below himself is to look to the earth, to the world, and especially to himself. AC 7816. To look above oneself is to be uplifted by the Lord; for no one can look above himself, unless he is uplifted by Him who is above. But to look below himself is of man, because then he does not suffer himself to be uplifted. AC7822 THE CONTENTS. The subject treated of in this chapter in the internal sense is the liberation of those who are of the spiritual church, and the damnation of those who are in faith separate from Charity. The damnation of these latter and the liberation of the former are represented by the passover, and the states in respect to charity and faith of those who are liberated, by the things to be observed on the days of the passover. AC 7823 In the supreme sense by the passover is represented the damnation of the unfaithful and the liberation of the faithful by the Lord, when He had been glorified. The quality of the state of the faithful at that time, and also what its quality would be afterward, both in the universal and in every particular, is described in this supreme sense by the statutes of the passover. Chelsea Rose Odhner is the Vice President of Publishing for the Swedenborg Foundation, a Level 1 trained Internal Family Systems practitioner, and a licensed massage therapist. Chelsea's work spans writing, music, and spiritual content strategy, including their original spiritual music album “Confident Hope.” Trained in yoga philosophy and interfaith dialogue, they work to highlight important intersections in the areas of spiritual growth, psychological understanding, and creative expression. Chelsea works one-on-one with clients virtually and in person in Glenside, PA at their practice Locus of Healing.Robert Falconer is best known for his extensive involvement with Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy as a practitioner, teacher, and writer. For the past decade or more Bob Falconer has devoted himself full-time to IFS work. In that time he has attended all levels of IFS training offered, and has been at many workshops and events with Richard Schwartz both as assistant and participant. Rose, Ph.D., is a scholar and translator of the works of Emanuel Swedenborg. My guest this month is Dell Rose. Dell is working on a project for his PhD dissertation on Charles Augustus Tulk and the role that Swedenborgianism played in the reforming societies of 19th century Britain. Though Tulk is often only known as the artistic patron of William Blake, he was also one of the earliest advocates of "public science" and his quest to show the spiritual nature of the material world based on Swedenborg's revelations would be widely acclaimed during the period.In addition to his PhD work, Dell is currently researching the medical theory and physicalism of Franz von Baader. Baader was one of the most important thinkers of 19th century Germany and was instrumental in establishing academic interest in the theosophy of Jakob Boehme, a very important figure in Esotericism.Dell has a lifelong interest in Christian theosophy, and millenarianism; he is interested as well in understanding the role and influence that national mythologies have played in Western esotericism, as well as esoteric currents in Germany during WW1; and also the inter-religious dialogue between Protestantism and Jewish sectarianism.This discussion, however, concerns 'ornamental' hermits. We explore this in the context of cultural history and significance of the garden and the esoteric influences that were built around this idea. In the first half, novelist, playwright, and marketing executive Penelope Holt shared her research on angels, reincarnation, and the metaphysical. Her exploration of the 1999 discovery of the 'Angel Scroll,' an alleged Dead Sea scroll that described a tour of heaven, along with apocalyptic imagery, sparked a sense of wonder and curiosity. Despite the Angel Scroll being more or less debunked, its ideas stimulated her interest in studying the ancient sect known as the Essenes, who lived near the Dead Sea, and the theory that Jesus was one of them. She noted that the Essenes were influenced by Egyptian mysteries and Hinduism and were oriented toward anti-violence. Some scholars claim that in Jesus' 'lost years,' he traveled to India, studied Buddhism, and believed in reincarnation.She also traced how the pagan Druids in England merged some of their ideas with the gospel of Jesus into an early form of Celtic Christianity after the biblical figure, Joseph of Arimathea, was said to visit post-crucifixion. On the possibility of an angelic realm, she related this to the work of philosopher and scientist Bernardo Kastrup, and physicist Donald Hoffman, who suggest that the nature of the universe is consciousness itself, and that our reality arises in consciousness. Holt believes that people who have expanded consciousness or perceptions may see angels or aliens who could inhabit a realm where there is no time-space or, past or future.--------------Susanne J. Wilson, known as the Carefree Medium, is an educator, spiritual teacher, and medium whose abilities have undergone scientific study and validation. In the latter half, she discussed what she has learned about the afterlife and the phases the soul goes through on the Other Side. Where we go when we pass over "seems to be dependent upon our thoughts, words, and actions while we were in our bodies here on Earth," she remarked, adding that Swedenborg, in his book "Heaven and Hell," wrote about how souls are kind of automatically transported by their energy to where they belong on the Other Side. While Wilson does not believe in a hell per se, she noted that there is evidence certain deceased individuals might self-create their own version of that.Further, she continued, various deep trance and direct voice mediums, such as Leslie Flint, have suggested that heaven is more real than our existence here. In a sense, she said, we are living in a dream now, and we wake up when we die. Wilson, who works with spirit guides, said she sometimes refers to them as interdimensional allies. "I think that we have all kinds of friends and intelligent non-humans in the unseen world on standby, helping us," she said. While illness or pain leading up to one's demise can be awful, death itself is an ecstatic experience, she mused, and we need not fear being judged in the afterworld. "There's no fire and brimstone, no judgment, just an opportunity to review your life," she revealed. During the last hour, she offered readings to callers.
