D. Firth Griffith is a writer, teacher and land-based practitioner whose work sits at the intersection of ecology, myth and lived relationship with the natural world. He is a father, horse handler, sacred butcher and leather tanner, as well as an award-winning independent author of books on kincentric ecology, mythology, fantasy, horror and language.  His writing has appeared in publications including The Stockman Grassfarmer, Resilience.org and the Permaculture Research Institute. His books have received several honours, including Independent Publisher Book of the Year in Fantasy and the National Indie Excellence Award in Nature Writing.Across his books and countless conversations, Daniel has challenged many of the assumptions that underpin modern agriculture, food systems and even contemporary environmentalism.  His work asks difficult questions: What does it mean to eat with honour?  What has been lost when food becomes commodity rather than a relational, animistic consent-based approach?  This conversation felt particularly alive for me because last year we field harvested one of our own cows within our community's farm.  The experience stirred reverence, grief, gratitude, responsibility and many questions that continue to unfold within me.Daniel's work offers a language for some of those questions, while also opening many more. What follows is a conversation about food, consent, ceremony, kinship, grief, horror, foraging, hope and what it might mean to become fully answerable to the places and beings that feed us.Firth has generously offered a fortnight of a 75% discount code for any and all of his books, which is for the patrons of this podcast and also for our paid subscribers on Substack. Daniel's Award-winning Irish Myth “Rimwalker” series now has three books, all available on his website. CMO Awards Podcast Episode 14: The cheeky challengers: CMO winners from amaysim, Australian Pork, Mountain Culture Beer Co on breaking the marketing and creative mould

Host: Nadia Cameron, Publisher | Editor – Marketing They all work for cheeky challenger brands in their respective categories, they’re not afraid of doing unconventional things – and now they’ve all been recognised as top 20 CMOs of the Year for committing to innovative and distinctly different approaches to realising growth ambitions at hand. In this latest CMO Awards podcast episode, we’re looking at how marketers ‘break the mould’ by exploring three of our most compelling CMO submissions this year: amaysim’s Pete MacGregor (#7), Mountain Culture Beer Co’s Brad Firth (11th and SMB CMO of the Year), and Australian Pork’s Rob Farmer (#13). Each of these marketing chiefs shares how they’ve respectively been tackling ‘big M marketing’. For Farmer, it’s about bold brand decisions to get pork on the fork. To realise this, he’s leveraging the triumvirate of creative, commercial and science to challenge rusted-on cooking habits while also tackling confronting – and commonly misunderstood – perceptions of the industry head-on. For Firth, listening to research enough – but not too much – has led to unusually creative product innovations such as a fruit hazy, defiantly full-strength beer inspired by hallucinogenic insights and the consumer’s desire for enhanced experiences. The bold bet has paid off: Juice Trip represented 20 per cent of volume sales in its first year thanks to its talkability and differentiated approach. Over at amaysim, meanwhile, MacGregor is going all-in on AI creative to gain velocity, speed and differentiation in market, while pursuing simplicity and responsiveness inside the challenger telco brand. He’s also resetting the dialogue around what it means to be ‘courageous customer champions’, getting into the weeds of customer insight and strategy, then owning the fixes in a way that’s building connection and cultural buy-in. For all three, ‘courageous marketing’ comes down to a belief in – and then being accountable to – the bold strategies they’ve set out to deliver. “There’s so much noise, there are so many inputs, there are so many opinions everywhere you turn. I find it really easy to start to second guess, see things watered down, and even just get distracted,” comments Firth. “So for me, a really courageous marketer is just one who sticks to the strategy, rides it, and then obviously learns from it.” Likewise, Farmer believes in “playing your own game”. “Having the confidence to stay focused on doing not what you would love to be doing because it's not in strategy. I think that that is the most courageous thing to do – hold the line, then hold it over the long term.” Equally, MacGregor backs conviction over consensus. “You’ve got to really back yourself, whatever role you have, as you’re in that role because someone believed in you and trusted you,” he says. “Know what your internal superpower is. If you really believe in someone, whether it be a strategy, idea of whatever it is, you have to really back yourself.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Most of us aren't stuck. We're cluttered. That's one of the first things Diana Firth said in this conversation. Diana is an Intuitive Guide, Author, and Speaker, and one of my closest friends for over 25 years. She's also one of the clearest, most grounded people I know when it comes to helping people cut through the noise and actually hear themselves again. In this episode of the Game On Girlfriend® podcast, I sit down with Diana to talk about spiritual simplicity — what it really means, what spiritual clutter actually looks and feels like, and why the feeling of being stuck is almost never what it looks like on the surface. One thing worth noting before you press play: Diana recorded this conversation in the middle of her own grief, having recently lost her father. The grace and clarity she brings to this conversation, from inside that loss, are something I hope everyone gets to witness. It's a living example of something she teaches — that our emotions are here to guide us, even the hard ones. If things have felt loud, heavy, or like you can't quite hear yourself right now — this episode is going to help.   WHAT YOU'LL LEARN  Why feeling stuck is almost always a clutter problem, not a you problem What spiritual simplicity is — and what spiritual clutter actually looks and feels like in real life How to train your mind to come back to the present moment without overhauling your entire life Why your purpose and your job don't have to be the same thing — and why that matters What opened up for Diana the moment she let go of the fear of judgment How working with your emotions instead of storing them changes what's available to you   SPECIAL GIFT FROM DIANA FIRTH Diana is offering a single-session intuitive guidance experience at a special introductory rate for the first six months of this year. If something in this conversation stirred something in you — and you're ready to get quiet enough to get clear — this is a meaningful next step. Using intuitive insight and the ability to read emotional and energetic patterns, Diana helps clients identify the mental, emotional, and energetic noise that keeps them stuck in overwhelm, self-doubt, and misalignment. Her work is grounded, practical, and centered on nervous system safety, self-trust, and clarity. Through her company, Simplify with Di, and her memoir Love Doesn't Pay the Bills, Diana teaches that simplicity is not about minimalism or productivity — it's about removing what no longer serves so people can live with greater ease, stability, and alignment.   READY TO BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE? They discuss their own on‑site experiences at marquee matchups like Hopkins–Maryland, touch on standout women's games, and bring in analyst Craig McMichael to break down national trends as the postseason begins. Together, they preview major conference‑shaping games in the Atlantic 10, Big East, Ivy League, ACC, and Big Ten—evaluating RPI implications, at‑large chances, stylistic matchups, and which teams are peaking or fading at the wrong time. Their analysis covers Richmond–High Point, Georgetown–Villanova, Harvard–Cornell, Duke–UNC, Syracuse–Notre Dame, and Maryland–Rutgers, with each host offering predictions and broader context for Selection Sunday.Cornell's leading scorer, junior attackman Willem Firth, joins the show to talk about his journey from Ottawa to Hill Academy to Cornell. He reflects on Cornell's first national championship in 48 years and shares how the team approached the 2026 season. He emphasized the team's focus on building a new identity rather than replicating last year's success, highlighting a balanced six-man offense and a strong defensive unit anchored by goalie Matthew Tully. Willem discussed his background in Ottawa, his time at the prestigious Hill Academy where he was coached by legends like Jeff Teat and Brody Merrill, and how that experience shaped him as a player. D-Fly & Willem drafted a Hill Academy alumni Sixes Team that could compete with any in the world. He also touched on the upcoming high-stakes Ivy League game against Harvard, which could earn Cornell the No. 1 seed and home-hosting rights. On the lighter side, he named the Celtics as his favorite team, called out two SSDM as his basketball teammate picks, and revealed that house music and 90's throwbacks dominate the Cornell locker room playlist. GAME PREVIEWSFRIDAYNo. 4 Richmond (11-1, 5-0 A10) at High Point (6-6, 5-0) | 5 p.m. | ESPN+ | Spiders -6.5/25.5No. 12 Georgetown (7-4, 4-0 Big East) at Villanova (6-6, 3-1) | 7 p.m. | ESPN+ | Hoyas -5.5/22.5SATURDAYNo. 10 Harvard (9-3, 3-2 Ivy) at No. 6 Cornell (9-3, 4-1) | noon | ESPN+ | Big Red -2.5/24.5No. 16 Duke (8-4, 0-3 ACC) at No. 3 North Carolina (11-2, 2-1) | noon | ESPNU | Heels -1.5/23.5No. 5 Syracuse (11-3, 2-1 ACC) at No. 1 Notre Dame (9-1, 2-1) | noon | ACCNX | Irish -1.5/21.5No. 20 Rutgers (8-6, 1-3 Big Ten) at No. 11 Maryland (6-5, 3-2) | 6 p.m. | B1G+ | Terps -4.5/18.5 GIVE & GOIn this week's Best of TV-themed Give & Go, the guys share their favorite all-time TV drama series and see where those shows compare on an official list of the greatest of all time.

We also explore concerns about LinkedIn's business-focused content and its constant upselling tactics, particularly how the platform promotes corporate narratives over independent creators.A major focus becomes celebrity podcasts and authenticity in the medium. We discuss our frustration with famous people who hire others to create content while taking all the credit. Sean uses Dax Shepard's podcast as an example, arguing that Shepard essentially copied his producer and format from Michael Rosenbaum's show without putting in the creative work himself. We debate whether true podcasting comes from passion and creative freedom rather than outsourcing the work. The episode shifts gears into a music identification game, where we explore various artists and styles. We dive deep into the band Tora Tora, discussing their first album "Surprise Attack", Genesis's "Firth of Fifth" and Big Black's grunge-era track from "How to Win Friends and Influence People", Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Possess Your Heart," a previously unreleased track from Sean's band Salty Bear called "Rugburn," T-Rex's "Buikm McKane".Throughout, we discuss the challenges of discovering new music in the pre-internet era and the importance of finding albums with multiple strong tracks.Linktree: https://linktr.ee/seangeekpodcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/seangeekpodcastWe are a part of the Boneless Podcast Network: https://goboneless.lovable.app/Merch:Tee Public: https://www.teepublic.com/seangeekpodcastRed Bubble: https://www.redbubble.com/people/seangeekpodcast/shop@seangeekpodcast on Twitter, Instagram and FacebookMentioned in this episode:New Merch AdAn ad that incorporates Red Bubble and Tee Public

This film is a powerful story about friendship, perserverance, and duty.  The King's Speech showed us the incredible talents of both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. It is a special movie that may be slower paced than other films from 2010. However, it is worth your time. It feels even more powerful because it is a true story. A wonderful telling of a king who's voice was truly needed during WWII.Looking back, was it deserving of the Best Picture Oscar for 2010? This week, I'm joined by Henry Firth & Ian Theasby, the founders of BOSH!, to explore how an audience-first approach helped them build one of the most recognisable plant-based consumer brands in the UK. For founders scaling challenger brands, this is an incredible lesson in brand growth through content & community first. Long before their recent Tesco launch with their delish PIZZA, BOSH! had already spent years building attention, trust and demand through daily recipe content, bestselling cookbooks and a clear mission to put more plants on plates. What makes this conversation especially useful is that Henry and Ian did not stumble into this model by accident. They set out to build a food brand, but chose to do it the lean way: validating demand, learning from audience behaviour and evolving from videos to cookbooks, licensing and then fully controlled product ranges. We talk about how they used views, comments, polls and first-principles thinking to shape products, why they moved away from licensing, what it took to launch into Tesco in just nine months, and what all of this means for founders who want to think more like media companies and less like traditional CPG brands. What You'll Learn- How BOSH! built an audience before building a food brand- Why a media-first strategy can reduce risk for scaling consumer brands- How social content, polls and engagement can inform product development- Why Henry and Ian moved from licensing to building their own supply chain- What founders can learn from BOSH!'s rapid Tesco launch and lean operating modelKey Topics Discussed- Building one of the world's biggest plant-based video channels- Using The Lean Startup mindset to validate product-market fit- The shift in plant-based eating from niche to mainstream- Why BOSH! focused on taste first, then health, then sustainability- Using audience insights, comments and polls to shape NPD- Moving from content to cookbooks, TV and supermarket shelves- Why licensing was useful, but ultimately too limiting- Building an in-house team and supply chain for greater control- Choosing product categories like meals, pizza and curry from first principles- Launching into Tesco and trading ahead of forecast- Co-founder dynamics, leadership and role splitting- AI, learning mode and operating leaner as a modern brand teamUSEFUL LINKSConnect with Henry on LinkedIn Connect with Ian on LinkedIn BOSH! An urban planning specialist believes Auckland's density plan is far too important to meddle with. The Government again revised the super-city's plan yesterday to reduce minimum housing capacity to 1.4 million. It's the second revision within weeks from the original two million after continued push-back in some suburbs. Mt Hobson Group's Hamish Firth told Mike Hosking the plan needs to be done by and for Aucklanders. He says it's been wrongly directed from the start, as it was lunacy to mandate two-million houses. An urban planning specialist is advising the Government to be careful changing a development plan he believes was already working. The Government's revising the city's housing capacity number in its new plan from just over two million to 1.6 million. It is focusing more on building in the city and by transport hubs, rather than suburbs. Mt Hobson Group Director Hamish Firth told Mike Hosking you're creating fear from something that people don't get. He says you create paper capacity, but also community backlash, land value distortion and probably not any extra homes. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Along the way, they discuss Rahab, Caleb, Jael, Uriah the Hittite, Elijah, and more—and why modern immigration debates often flatten biblical categories into political talking points.Topics include:- Are “foreigners” consistently portrayed negatively in the Old Testament?- Rahab, Achan, and the question: Who belongs to God's people?- Key Hebrew terms for “foreigner/sojourner” and why context matters- Why “legal vs illegal” can distract from the deeper biblical question: what is just?- A fresh take on ḥerem (חרם) as renunciation/devotion rather than simply “destruction”- Refugee language and why modern labels can cause Christians to talk past each otherResources mentioned:

Meanwhile, excise tax continues to rise automatically in New Zealand every year. Brewers Association executive director Dylan Firth told Mike Hosking fewer people are going to the pub because the tax is driving up the cost of a pint. We sit down with Amanda Firth to unpack the hidden seams of maternity care: where well-meaning screening tools miss people, where interpreters enter too late, and where equity hinges on small, repeatable habits in busy clinics.Amanda traces a path from home births and district hospitals to a PhD on refugee and asylum-seeking women's perinatal mental health. She reveals how identity, migration status, and access to interpreters shape outcomes, and why midwives sometimes reword screening tools just to get women the help they clearly need. We break down trauma-informed care that protects both women and clinicians, and explore the overlooked solution of training midwives and interpreters together so mental health conversations become safer, clearer, and culturally grounded.Beyond the consult room, we tackle workforce realities: staffing ratios, burnout, and the urgency of continuity of carer. Amanda shares how to translate research beyond paywalls into practice people can use—turning dense papers into plain language and peer learning that sticks. It's an honest, hopeful look at building fair maternity systems, starting with what you can change today while the bigger machinery catches up.If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a colleague, and leave a quick review. Rachel catches up with Nick Ray who previously kayaked around the coast of Scotland, sharing his journey and mental health challenges on social media throughout that year. He's just completed another journey but walking this time, from far north to south via east and west. Rachel finds out why he decided to hang up his kayak for this challenge.Mark's in Aberdeenshire and hears from Jim Wilson from Soil Essentials .who tells him how a spot sprayer is going to change the world!Bobby Motherwell, the poet in residence at RSPB Lochwinnoch has been keeping a close eye on the wildlife there. He shares a poem, inspired by his surroundings. The Mounthooly Roundabout in Aberdeen is one of the city's busiest roundabouts and it's a spot where hundreds, if not thousands of people pass by every day – But this is no ordinary green oasis! Recently a community group have been transforming the roundabout into a food forest – Last week, I took a wander down to Mounthooly to meet up with Graham Donald, community development officer along with some of the other folk involved in the project to see their progress.Mark and Rachel chat with Richard Reynolds, who, 21 years ago, was one of the UK's first modern guerrilla gardeners, and ask how attitudes have changed over the years.Tucked away on the Moray Coast lies Culbin Sands, a remote stretch of fragile shoreline where the golden sands meet the crystal clear waters of Findhorn bay. It's not the easiest place to reach, unless you're up for a three-hour hike through the Culbin Forest, or you could go for the slightly less strenuous option which is to go by water taxi. Morven Livingstone and Phil Sime, along with guide dog Striker met up with Jane Campbell Morrison from Findhorn Water-Sports who gave them a tour around the bay.Sand in Your Eye are a sand sculpture group who depending on the tide are creating a sand sculpture of Beethoven on Elie Beach. Rachel pops along hoping to see the end result.Scotland's last remaining Timeball has just been restored and is back in place at the top of Edinburgh's iconic Nelson Monument. Once a vital tool for sailors navigating the Firth of Forth and Port of Leith, this Timeball helped ships set their clocks precisely to 1pm Greenwich Mean Time 365 days of the year. Earlier this week, Mark caught up with Karl Chapman, Head of Heritage at Cultural Venues, Museums and Galleries, to learn all about the fascinating restoration project and why this historic timekeeper still matters today.
