On our last episode, God sent spies into the land of Canaan, the land He promised to give them, but when they saw their foes, they brought back a negative report, and refused to venture onward. Today, God resolves to wipe them out for their rebellion, but Moses intercedes for the people, pleading with God to act with faithful and steadfast love. Instead, God resolves to keep their generation out of the land, promising that their children would inherit it instead. Later, a man named Korah incites a rebellion against Moses, questioning his authority. Armed with the conclusion that the entire community of Israel is holy, he contends that Moses and Aaron have no right to go before the Lord exclusively. Korah and 250 men appear before the Lord, and what happens next is unprecedented.Numbers 14 - 1:14 . Numbers 15 - 9:30 . Numbers 16 - 16:26 . This episode Noah breaks down Psalm 33. He discusses the reliability of speech that ancient Israelites believed. God acts as creator through the power of speech. God's words are a stability that the psalmist relies on and sees as more powerful than horses and kings. Noah relates these ideas to the comfort John brings to Christians and the responses to Jesus that incited love of him or fear and distrust. Some episodes are going to be action-packed and some are going to sound like you're reading an instruction book, and this episode may tend toward the latter of the two. It's important to remember, however, that the tabernacle is the place where the God of the universe, perfect in all His ways, matchless in power and authority, would meet with His people in a unique way. If it were up to you to build that, wouldn't you want detailed instructions? Right worship is important to God, and these detailed instructions gave the Israelites the freedom of knowing their worship was pleasing to God Almighty. Today, God gives instructions on how the Israelites would build the place where He would be worshipped, how to collect funds to put it together.Exodus 25 - 1:02 . Exodus 26 – 7:00 . John 4:21-24 New King James Version 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Have you ever considered how many times we are told to "Praise the Lord" in scripture? May we do just that as Mike Dahl opens Psalm 33 for us.
In Genesis 28 we are told that Isaac in response to Rebekah's entreaty sends Jacob to Haran to seek for a wife who is of the Abrahamic faith. The Abrahamic promises are given to Jacob in verses 3-4. Jacob took his journey in haste still worrying over Esau's intention of killing his twin. Verses 6 to 9 tell us that Esau has not the faintest idea of what being a faithful believer means. He takes two more wives, who have descended from Ishmael. In verse 10 we are told of Jacob's arrival at Bethel (“the house of God”); although referred to earlier in the record, it was most likely so named because of the incidents in this chapter. Jacob must have been wearied from his journey as he took a stone for a pillow; and dreamed of a ladder stretching from earth to heaven. There were angels on the ladder; and, we are told that they were first ascending, and secondly descending upon the ladder. Word order is critical to observe and carefully read in the Bible, as Hebrews 5 explains. If they ascend first that means they are already with Jacob to help him(see Hebrews 1:14). They go to heaven and return after having been instructed in what further aid is needed (Revelation 3:5). Verse 13 tells us that Yahweh (most likely Michael – the angel who bore the Name of his God) stood, as a caring supervisor of those providing the help, at the top of the ladder. All things associated with the salvation of His children are of God and from Him. Some people have mistakenly used this chapter to suggest that the text teaches “we go to heaven when we die”. In fact, it teaches the very opposite. The angels were with Jacob on earth providing him aid. Notice also in the words that immediately follow Jacob is promised the Land covenanted to Abraham and that through the seed of Jacob (the Lord Jesus Christ) blessing will come to all nations of this earth (the NT says the same, Romans verse 13). Next the Almighty offers to Jacob daily care and protection throughout his sojourn; until he returns to the Promised Land (verse 15). On awakening Jacob felt the awesomeness of the place, where he had slept; and reverentially names it “the House of God” (Bethel). He set up the stone upon which he had slept, and “anointed (Hebrew Massiah – i.e Christed it) the stone and declaring it to be the pillar of the house (Matthew 16 verses 16 to18 and 1 Corinthians 3 verses 11, 16 and 17 Ephesians 2 verses 11to 22, please read them slowly and consider carefully. This is the first use of “anointing” in the Bible. In acknowledgment of the overshadowing care of the Almighty and the promise of inheritance and providence of the LORD Jacob promises to give a tenth of all (a tithe) back to his Sovereign to show that all we receive is a blessing, of which we are unworthy, from the Father.

Side note: The recording begins with applause, but that's not for me (the pastor) -- rather, it's from a congregational stereo song that just ended that ends with applause. :-)

A blessed and happy New Year to you! 2024 is now in the past and we look forward with great expectation and perhaps a bit of trepidation to 2025. Today is a perfect day for you to sit with your kids and talk about the days in which we live, the reasonable expectations we must have, and where to find our hope. I've gotten into the habit of using each and every New Year's Day to pause and pray. I thank the Lord for another year. I ask his blessing on my family. I ask Him to protect us from harm and to provide for our well-being. And, because our world is filled with brokenness, there will be unexpected bumps in the road during the coming year. I ask the Lord to prepare me to handle whatever may come. Perhaps today you can share these words from Psalm thirty-three with your family: Our soul waits for the Lord. He is our help and shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
Does your praise and worship ever get stale? It shouldn't. We praise the Lord for who he is. Join Pastor Mike and Tyler as they look at Psalm 33 and the reasons it gives us for praising the Lord.Support the show

Welcome to Day 2502 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2502 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 33:18-22 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2502 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2502 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we'll look at Psalm 33, verses 18 through 22, from the New Living Translation. In these verses, we see a beautiful shift in perspective, moving from focusing on human limitations to God's boundless strength, compassion, and reliability. This passage reveals God's faithful character and the importance of placing our trust and hope in Him alone. Let's start by reading Psalm 33:18-22: Psalm 33:18-22 (NLT) 18 But the Lord watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love. 19 He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. 20 We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. 21 In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. 22 Let Your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in You alone. God's Watchful Care (Verse 18): Psalm 33:18 opens with a powerful truth: “But the Lord watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love.” Here, David assures us that God is aware of those who honor Him and actively watches over them. In this verse, the Hebrew concept of “fear” isn't about terror or dread, but rather a reverence and respect for God's holiness and authority. It's a posture of humility, recognizing our dependence on Him and honoring His place in our lives. This watchful care is not random or conditional. It's directed toward those who choose to lean on God, who rely on His unfailing love. This idea of “unfailing love” is such a beautiful aspect of God's character. It's the Hebrew word chesed, which encompasses loyal love, mercy, and faithfulness. God's love is steadfast and unwavering, and we can cling to this reliable, enduring love. When we truly understand that God watches over us, we can rest in His protection and guidance. We can trust that we're not alone or lost or forgotten in a world full of challenges. Instead, we have a God who sees us and is actively involved in our lives. Knowing this can bring us a profound sense of security and peace, especially when life feels uncertain or overwhelming. God as Our Protector and Provider (Verse 19): Verse 19 builds on this theme by describing God's role as our protector and provider: “He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.” This verse speaks to the essential truth that God is both a deliverer and a sustainer. When it mentions that He “rescues from death,” it's a reminder that God is ultimately sovereign over life itself. He holds us in His hands, and our lives are under His protection. In times of famine or scarcity, God promises to keep His people alive. Now, “famine” here doesn't just refer to...
Welcome to Day 2500 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2500 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 33:13-17 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2500 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2500 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we'll be exploring Psalm 33, verses 13 through 17 from the New Living Translation. These verses are filled with incredible insights into the nature of God's watchfulness over humanity, His wisdom in assessing our hearts, and the limitations of human strength. We're invited to recognize that while we might rely on various sources for security or strength, ultimately, God alone is our true source of help and hope. So, let's start by reading these verses: Psalm 33:13-17 (NLT) 13 The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. 14 From His throne He observes all who live on the earth. 15 He made their hearts, so He understands everything they do. 16 The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. 17 Don't count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. God's Perspective on Humanity (Verses 13-14): Starting with verses 13 and 14, we're given an incredible image of God's position and His all-seeing nature. “The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From His throne, He observes all who live on the earth.” Here, we're reminded that God's perspective is vastly different from ours. He sits enthroned above us, seeing everything—every action, every choice, every hidden motive. From His heavenly vantage point, He isn't limited like we are by time, location, or understanding. When we think about God “seeing” us, it's important to remember that His vision is not just a surface-level glance. God is fully aware of each life, each heart, and every thought. He isn't just watching; He's profoundly aware and invested. In our fast-paced world, it can be easy to feel unnoticed or even insignificant, but these verses remind us that no one escapes God's attention. He's aware of the entire human race, yet He cares about each individual person. This truth should be both humbling and comforting. To know that the Creator of the universe watches over us with care gives us assurance. We are not alone, unnoticed, or left to wander aimlessly. God sees each of us, and He is personally aware of what we face, what we need, and what weighs on our hearts. God's Knowledge of Our Hearts (Verse 15): Verse 15 takes this even further by revealing that God doesn't just observe us from a distance; He understands the depths of our hearts. The verse says, “He made their hearts, so He understands everything they do.” This is a profound truth. Since God crafted our hearts—our innermost being—He has an intimate understanding of who we are and why we act as we do. When David says that God “understands everything we do,” it's a reminder that God's knowledge of us goes beyond mere observation. He sees beyond...
Welcome to Day 2498 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2498 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 33:6-12 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2498 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2498 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we're exploring Psalm 33, verses 6 through 12. These verses are rich with awe, reminding us of the power and sovereignty of God in creation, in the direction of human history, and in the lives of those who trust Him. David, the psalmist, calls us to look beyond ourselves and into the greatness of God, whose plans and purposes are solid and unchanging. I'll start by reading Psalm 33:6-12 from the New Living Translation. Psalm 33:6-12 (NLT) 6 The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. 7 He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. 8 Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. 9 For when He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command. 10 The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. 11 But the Lord's plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken. 12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people He has chosen as His inheritance. God's Power in Creation (Verses 6-7): Let's dive into verses 6 and 7, where David speaks about God's role as Creator. Verse 6 begins, “The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.” Here, we're reminded that God's power is unmatched. Creation wasn't a struggle or a lengthy process for Him—God simply spoke, and everything came into being. In a single breath, all the stars in the heavens burst into existence, vast and uncountable, each one a testament to His power and glory. This speaks to the ease with which God can do things that, to us, are utterly incomprehensible. Imagine the scale of this. Every star, every planet, every galaxy—God created them effortlessly. His words have the power to shape reality. This is a powerful reminder for us to trust His word. When He speaks, it carries weight, authority, and the power to bring things to pass. Verse 7 continues: “He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.” God not only created the world but also established its boundaries and order. The seas, powerful and relentless, obey Him. He has set the boundaries for the oceans and keeps them within their limits. This detail isn't just about the physical boundaries of creation; it's a reminder that God's power is vast, yet precise. He governs every detail of the universe, large and small. In a world that often feels chaotic, it's comforting to remember that God has ordered creation with care and intention. He is in control, not only over the great expanses of the universe but also over the smallest details of our lives. When we feel overwhelmed or out of control, we can look to...
