It's another Mark it Down Monday as Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis discuss who they think will be the next Ohio State players to earn trees in Buckeye Grove as first-team All-Americans. As part of the discussion the three talk: Will a defensive player earn the honor after not having a single player do so for the past three seasons? OSU has constantly had elite quarterback play, but had one earn a tree since 2006. Does that drought end in 2024? How many first-team All-Americans will Ohio State have and which side of the ball will have more? Thanks, as always, for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. On this Friday Buckeye Talk on the eve of the Ohio State spring football game, Doug Lesmerises, Nathan Baird and Stephen Means are talking recruiting. First (0:30), the guys check in on texter thoughts from two previous podcasts. There are texter survey results on the idea of Haskins Heisman Hill in Buckeye Grove (3:30), and there are the answers about whether Ohio State could put together a mini-dynasty in the next decade (10:10). Then it's onto recruiting (14:19) and whether Ryan Day is feeling momentum after six commits in the last three weeks. One is quarterback Air Noland (20:46) and another is linebacker Payton Pierce (26:29). What do their pledges mean? Then the guys get into a debate about the current offensive line recruiting strategy (35:07) and what needs to happen next at that position. Finally (1:05:17) the talk turns to the latest collective and if it might be more effective in helping Ohio State get the NIL money to land some major national recruits. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk, and talk to you after the spring game on Saturday with a postgame pod. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On this Monday Buckeye Talk, Ryan Day joins Doug Lesmerises for a half-hour interview on Dwayne Haskins, who died a year ago, on April 9, 2022. Day talks about coaching Haskins, about the quarterback's greatest strengths, and about how he should be remembered as part of Ohio State history. Also discussed is the spring quarterback battle in 2018 between Haskins and Joe Burrow five years ago,. Then it's on to audio clips from Haskins' career, as the quarterback in 2018 talks about his decision to come to Ohio State, that spring battle, and settling in as the starter. Clips are also included from Burrow and from Quincy Avery, Haskins' private quarterback coach. Finally, Doug has a proposal for a way Ohio State could honor Haskins and a handful of other great players from this era who aren't in Buckeye Grove. Consider this a Dwayne Haskins legacy podcast, adding to the previous C.J. Stroud episode in our Legacy Series on Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It's Mark it Down Monday, and Nathan Baird, Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means are picking the Ohio State football players they think will be first-team All-Americans this season and earn trees in Buckeye Grove. But first, they discuss check-in at the Ohio State team hotel on Sunday night and what some players wore. Then (8:59), a discussion begins about the latest Ohio State basketball recruiting commitment, which leads into a debate over whether the OSU football team or basketball team will finish with a higher-rated recruiting class for 2023. Both are currently No. 3. Then, Doug has an idea (24:20) to expand Buckeye Grove to include quarterbacks who weren't first-team All-Americans, but did finish in the top 5 of the Heisman Trophy voting. After that, the discussion about offensive skill players who could be All-Americans begins (35:40.) Then the debate moves on to the offensive line (57:54). And then the podcast wraps up (1:09:45) by looking at which defensive players, if any, have the best All-American chances. This Buckeye Talk gets into a lot, but it's smooth.
