Back-up quarterbacks most of the time are insurance policies. You want strong ones, but you hope they do not have to be used. South Carolina has an opening at the spot after Robbie Ashford, last season's back-up, hit the portal for Wake Forest where he hopes to start and Davis Beville ran out of eligibility. Former five-star Air Noland arrived from Ohio State and will be a redshirt freshman, along with returner Dante Reno. True freshman Cutter Woods has a shot as well. JC Shurburtt breaks down the situation. Also, basketball and baseball and what's happening around Carolina as always. It is game day for the final time in 2023 for Ohio State as the Buckeyes will take on Missouri in the Cotton Bowl tonight in Dallas (8 p.m. ET; ESPN). The No. 7 Buckeyes (11-1) are now up to 4.5-point favorites over the No. 9 Tigers (10-2). Are we confident OSU will get the job done and end their season on a high note against a very good team? Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle delve into all things Cotton Bowl, plus: * Is there any smoke to these Will Howard rumors? Some are predicting that Howard -- an accomplished quarterback who is transferring from Kansas State -- will join the Buckeyes' roster in early January. * But what if Devin Brown balls out tonight? Does that change the calculus? Or perhaps Ryan Day is not really considering Howard and is confident in Brown, Lincoln Kienholz and Air Noland headed into 2024? Regardless, we're excited to see what Brown can do in his first collegiate start. * What are our final score predictions for tonight's game? * Which players from Ohio State are likely to turn pro early? * What coaching changes will Day make in the weeks after the game? But for right now Stephen Means and Andrew Gillis will use a Tuesday episode of Buckeye Talk to discuss the future of the two programs by looking at their efforts on the recruiting trail. The two look at the difference in standards in class quality but also what a successful cycle looks like. Then after the break they look at the quarterback commits on both sides and how the two are inadvertently linked together. For OSU that's five-star commit Air Noland and for the Wolverines, four-star Jaydn Davis who was a five-star recruit at one point in his career. Wrapping things up, Andrew reveals which commits on both sides he thinks have a chance to have an impact on the rivalry the earliest in their careers. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Air Noland and Dylan Raiola will forever be linked as Ohio State's quarterback commits in the 2024 class. They went head-to-head this week at the Elite 11 showcase, where Noland showed where he stands next to now-Georgia commit Raiola and the rest of the best. Back home, in-state Class of 2025 quarterbacks Tavien St. Clair and Ryan Montgomery worked out for Corey Dennis and Ryan Day prior to one of OSU's summer camps. Both will be back on campus next week. Has St. Clair's physical development over the past year made him the likely front-runner to be the Buckeyes' QB in that class? Finally, an update on in-state cornerbacks Bryce West and Aaron Scott, who are also both scheduled to camp with the Buckeyes next week. How big of a threat is Michigan to OSU pulling off a sweep of these top-100 prospects? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
