Healing Sciatica vs Healing The Disc: Why You Keep Relapsing

Does your sciatica seem to vanish for a few days, giving you hope that you are finally "fixed," only to return with a vengeance the moment you try to resume your normal life? This cycle of relief followed by relapse is incredibly common and deeply frustrating. In this session, we explain the critical difference between symptom relief (the absence of pain) and structural healing (the repair of the tissue). Understanding this distinction is the key to breaking the cycle of recurring back pain and preventing future flare-ups.Using the analogy of a grazed eyelid, we explore a vital concept: just because you can see perfectly clearly (function is 100%), it doesn't mean the wound on your eyelid has healed (structure is still damaged). In the same way, your back can often move pain-free while the disc is still fragile. We discuss the "Scab Phase"—that dangerous window where you feel capable but are clinically vulnerable. Learn why "testing" your back during this phase is exactly like picking a scab, and how to navigate this timeline safely to build true, long-term spinal resilience.

Send us a textThis week on Project Weight Loss, we're diving into something that doesn't get nearly enough credit — fun. Not the kind that just happens when everything's perfect, but the kind you can choose, plan for, and use as strategy. In this episode, I talk about why laughter, joy, and connection aren't distractions from your goals — they're essential to reaching them. From a weekend in San Francisco that reminded me how powerful community can be, to research that shows fun lowers stress and builds resilience, we're exploring how to hold both the hard and the happy, the serious and the silly. So tune in and let's talk about what it means to laugh deeply, live intentionally, and see fun as fuel — for your body, your mind, and your Project Weight Loss journey.Because laughter isn't just a feeling — it's a strategy.Quote of the Week:“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.”— Ralph Waldo EmersonDisclaimer:The information shared in this podcast is for educational and inspirational purposes only. From the very beginning, humanity has believed a dangerous lie—the idea that someone else has to make us feel whole, loved, or worthy. The “Make Me” Myth says, “You have to make me happy, make me better, make me feel valuable.” But when we depend on people to do what only God can do, we end up disappointed, disconnected, and drained. In this eye-opening message, we'll look back to the Garden of Eden to uncover how that lie first took root, and how it still affects the way we interact with other people's souls today. Our relationships were never meant to carry the full weight of our identity—they're meant to reflect the love of the One who already made us complete.

Mama, let's be real—healing isn't easy. It feels scary, painful, and sometimes even overwhelming to open up those places in our hearts we'd rather keep covered. But if you've been feeling stuck in anger, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, or unhealthy coping habits, it's time to take a courageous step toward freedom. In this episode, I walk you through six practical steps to begin your healing journey—from admitting you're not okay, to letting safe people in, to praying for God's direction, and ultimately taking a step of faith forward. Do you avoid hard things thinking you’re protecting your peace? Are you mistaking short-term comfort for real self-care?What if the things you run from are the key to your healing? How do you know when a boundary has become a wall? In this episode of A Really Good Cry, Radhi Devlukia takes a deep, honest look at avoidance—why we do it, why it feels so good in the moment, and why it can quietly sabotage our happiness, relationships, and growth. She explores how modern “self-care” culture has blurred the lines between protecting our peace and avoiding discomfort, and why choosing the harder, messier path is often the most loving thing we can do for ourselves. From subtle coping habits like overworking or overthinking, to more obvious escapes like walking away from relationships or avoiding difficult conversations, Radhi reveals how avoidance not only delays pain but also keeps us disconnected from our truest selves. She offers practical, compassionate ways to face discomfort, process the past, and build the resilience that creates lasting peace. In this episode, you’ll learn: The difference between true self-care and disguised avoidance How unprocessed pain lingers in your body and shapes your present Why short-term comfort can lead to long-term struggle How to spot avoidance in subtle everyday behaviors Practical ways to face discomfort and build emotional resilience Why doing “hard things” boosts self-trust and confidence How building resilience in one area of life strengthens all others The long-term freedom that comes from choosing the harder path now Whether you’ve been putting off a conversation, ignoring a past hurt, or avoiding your next big leap, this episode is a compassionate call to stop running—not because life will be pain-free, but because you are stronger than the pain you fear. It's a welcome return after being essentially absent from the music world for five years, and the band hasn't missed a beat with their funny, vulnerable style of alt rock. Matt joins us in this episode to talk about how the new album came about, including a very honest song written with Scott Stevens, tracking down album art from Fred Stonehouse, and the improbable story of how he ended up with his wife, Brazlian punk rocker Karen Dió. Want to fall in love with your ADHD brain and make it work for you? Learn more about my patented program, Your ADHD Brain is A-OK Academy  here: programs.tracyotsuka.com/signup___What if your doctor could prescribe a fishing group instead of another medication? A birdwatching club for your anxiety. An art class for your depression. Welcome to social prescribing—a healthcare movement that's changing how we think about healing by focusing on connection, not just pills.Julia Hotz is a journalist and author of The Connection Cure, the first book to explore the science behind social prescribing. As someone who recognizes herself in ADHD symptoms—the scattered attention, the 10,000 browser tabs, the plates left out for days—she's discovered something fascinating: when do we feel our symptoms the least? In this conversation, Julia and Tracy dive into why ADHD brains are particularly sensitive to loneliness and disconnection, and how social prescriptions can be game-changing. From Dave's fishing group that helped him overcome addiction and ADHD symptoms, to forest bathing backed by Japanese research, to bibliotherapy that eases anxiety, Julia shares real examples of how connection-based healing works. They explore attention restoration theory, why 20 minutes in nature can work as well as Ritalin, and how moving from "what's wrong with you" to "what matters to you" can transform everything. Julia shows us how giving our brains what they actually need—connection, nature, purpose—can help us thrive alongside traditional treatments.Resources: Website: https://www.hotzthoughts.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hotzthoughtsLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/julia-hotz-06510161 Send a Message: Your Name | Email | Message Learn more by connecting with Tracy through Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or visit adhdforsmartwomen.com.Are You Ready to Discover Your Brilliance?
