Are you ready? Our old-timey podcast is going full Matrix with the co-creator of the digital comics platform ComiXology: John Roberts! A genius of the ones and zeroes, this is the guy who took our precious four-color heroes, digitized them, and created a whole new reading experience for comics. We get into his early days creating and refining DotComics at Marvel, the inception of ComiXology as the winner of an NYU business plan competition, and all of the innovations throughout the years, from Guided View technology to ComiXology Submit and Originals. And yes, we do get into the Amazon buy-out and recent app updates. This one's a bit different than our usual creator interviews, but we know you'll dig it!(FYI: He wants you to know that Steve Gerber, not Steve Englehart, was the creator of Destroyer Duck; and that Atomic Robo was created by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, who he apologizes to for butchering their names.)You can follow John on Twitter: @johnnystorm0.__________________________________ Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you liked this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. It should come as no surprise to listeners of Funny Book Splatter that I love indie comics just as much, if not more than the books coming out of the larger publishers.  Between platforms like Kickstarter and Patreon, there are a lot of ways for creators to get their comics out into the world.  This week I spoke with a creative team publishing digitally through ComiXology Submit with The House.  Writer Phillip Sevy and artist Drew Zucker have created one of the scariest comics I’ve read in recent memory and each issue has really upped the ante.  The House follows a group of Allied Soldiers in World War II who find shelter in an ancient and creepy house during a snowstorm only to find that the building is trying to kill them.  It’s great atmospheric horror that really builds up over time.   I have a tone that I aim for with every episode of Funny Book Splatter and this conversation with Phillip and Drew is exactly what I’m looking for.  It’s a fun chat with two guys that love the horror genre and are making some excellent horror comics.  The first four issues of The House are currently available on ComiXology.   Phillip can be found online on Twitter.  Drew can be found online on Twitter and Instagram. I want to give a quick shoutout to Mr. Roberts who gave Funny Book Splatter its first review on iTunes.  It was five stars and very much appreciated.  As a reminder, reviews and ratings on iTunes help the show tremendously so please be like Mr. Roberts and help spread the word.  Thank you again.   SUBSCRIBE: RSS | iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher Music by Eric Matyas (www.soundimage.org)

Faith is the first comic to star a plus-sized superhero! Graphic Policy Radio welcomes special guest, writer Jody Houser who is part of the team at Valiant Comics bringing Faith to life in one of the year's most anticipated comics. Jody Houser earned her MFA in Creative Writing at Emerson College in Boston, where she completed her master's thesis in screenwriting and was a winner of the Rod Parker Fellowship for Playwriting. She began experimenting with webcomics in 2006 and is the creator behind the webcomic Cupcake POW!, which has updated weekly since 2010 and is currently available on comiXology Submit. Jody has been a contributing writer to numerous comic anthologies including Womanthology: Heroic and Womanthology: Space from IDW, CMYK: Magenta from Vertigo, and Avengers: No More Bullying from Marvel, as well as Dead Roots and Rise: Comics Against Bullying. Recently, Jody has written Orphan Black for IDW and Agent May for Marvel. Faith was the break out star of Valiant's Harbinger. A psionically gifted “psiot” she has always aspired to greatness. Now this once-ordinary teenager is taking control of her destiny and becoming the hard-hitting hero she’s always known she can be – complete with a mild-mannered secret identity, unsuspecting colleagues, and a day job as a reporter that routinely throws her into harm’s way! Well, at least she thought it would… When she’s not typing up listicles about cat videos, Faith makes a secret transformation to patrol the night as the City of Angels’ own leading superhero – the sky-soaring Zephyr! But flying solo is going to be tougher than she ever thought. Tweet us your questions @graphicpolicy.
