We're back on that Uncanny X-Force ride y'all! This week we're covering issues 19-22, starting a long story arc full of Captain Britains and art that is hard to read. Special note: we skipped 19.1 as it didn't relate directly to this story, but we may come back to it later. Enjoy! Reminder that you can read along with and ahead of the show by subscribing to Marvel Unlimited (we don't get paid for you doing that, so it's not an ad, it's just a cool service). 2023 is here and that means it's time for Elias and Jaina to litigate their 2022 predictions for Marvel. Who will win? Will there be another tie? And how disappointed with this make them? Oh, and we announced what the stakes are for our 2023 predictions. If Elias wins, we're forced to read "Major X" by Rob Liefeld and if Jaina wins, we'll be forced to read the "Captain America" arc 'Castaway in Dimension Z' by Rick Remender & John Romita Jr.Next time, however, we've got more Eternals in a VERY weird set of books: "Heroes for Hire" (Vol. 1) #4-7 (from November 1997 - January 1998) and "The New Eternals: Apocalypse Now" (also known as Eternals: The New Breed) #1 (from February 2000.) You can find these issues collected in "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus" and "Luke Cage, Iron Fist & the Heroes For Hire Vol. 1." It may be easier to read on Marvel Unlimited though, if that is something you have access too. The episode should be accessible even if you don't read the issues!

90s Eternals got dark! But maybe that's a good thing? At least dark is a tone; it's better to be dark than bland. Or is it? We talk about some very tacky comics that have a bit of life to them. It's the end of the year holiday season, so we are taking a break from our regularly scheduled program. The Eternals are forever, that's kind of the point of them (but will anyone care?) This week's episode takes a look back at the year in Marvel. The MCU may feel like it's going off the rails, but there are still some fun comics, even beyond the world of "X-Men." Find out which comics we think we'll find ourselves returning to again and again. We also have our annual predictions bet, where we try and guess at what's going to happen with Marvel stories across media. The movies have felt like the center of Marvel for so long, but maybe 2023 is the year that changes. Did this year teach us to love crossover events? Is there hope for the future of Marvel video games? Are there romance options in Marvel: Midnight Suns? Next time, we return to the huge mega Eternals read, and it's the last time the issues will be easy to find for a good long while. We are reading Eternals (vol. 2) issues #1–12, a limited series that ran from October 1985 - September 1986. It's collected as the second half of "The Dreaming Celestial Saga," and you can also find the story on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla Digital.

Not a hoax! Not a dream! Dedicated comics coverage has returned to Place To Be Nation Pop at long last! Welcome to Traders of the Lost Arcs, a loving look back on the comics we love. In our inaugural episode, Tim Capel leads Shawn Kidd, Scott Shifflett, and Andy Atherton through the one that started it all: an infamous 1992 biweekly saga known as "Man & Wolf." Doesn't ring a bell? Perhaps you're familiar with the story by its more colloquial association - Cap-Wolf! In a nutshell, a simple missing persons case sees Captain America transformed into a werewolf! With guest stars galore, including Wolverine, Cable, and basically every canine-adjacent character in the whole damned Marvel Universe. PLUS: palace intrigue with Diamondback and Crossbones (aka "What the hell is a back-up story?"), Cap's cast of missing friends, the protracted adventures of D-Man and Bernie in the park, and the INSANE origins of Dr. Druid!   Far from a mere back-issue review, we analyze not only the story itself, but the context in which it was published. How exciting was it being a comics fan in 1992? What else was on the spinner rack at the same time? WHY did this see print? Plus, we heap praise on the writing talents of the late Mark Gruenwald and have... questions about those of artist Rik Levins. Enjoy this first time outing wherein Andy learns comics, Shiff exudes patience, and Shawn changes his mind! It's a wild kick-off to our monthly comics adventures!   On this episode: Captain America vol. 1 #402-408. Read along with us via Marvel Unlimited at https://www.marvel.com/comics/series/1996/captain_america_1968_-_1996.

100 episodes! This is a milestone we've been thinking about for months and we wanted to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for listening this long, be this your first episode, your fifteenth, your fiftieth, or your hundredth. We've got a lot of fun things planned for the next 100 (or at least the next 15-20) and we hope you'll join us for the ride.To kick our 100th episode off, we're starting our walk through Eternals history - another mammoth book club series, though one a little less coherent than the Annihilation Saga - by chilling with the King and reading the first ten issues of the series that started it all: "Eternals" (1976.) Jaina and Elias debate the merits of the series, the demerits of the premise, and decry the sexism that pervades the book...and the eternal smugness of our protagonists. If you are reading along at home, you can find these issues on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla. Trade readers can find them in "Eternals By Jack Kirby," Vol. 1 or the first half of the “Complete Collection” or in "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus." And yes, we know the first volume has #1-11, not #1-10 but it was a cleaner breaking point.Next time, the rest of the issues (#11-19 and Annual #1). Find them in the same place as above (and in "Eternals By Jack Kirby," Vol. 2, of course.)And a big thank you to Carol Romo for our new theme, "Excelsior." Isn't it just grand, true believers?

The series had some incredible highs, but some dreadful lows. Unfortunately, the latter probably eclipse the former, but that's what makes the conversation interesting! If you are reading along with our book club you'll want to check out "Taskmaster: Unthinkable" from 2010.
