Vielen fällt es schwer, jemandem aufrichtig und geduldig zuzuhören. Ich kenne das von mir selbst – in solchen Momenten würde ich mich lieber selbst mitteilen. Zuhören ist vor allem dann anstrengend, wenn man aus dem Gesagten für sich selbst keinen Nutzen ziehen kann. Selbstdarstellung hingegen hat in der Gesellschaft einen hohen Stellenwert. Das Reden des Gegenübers dient hier nur als Ausgangspunkt, um die Aufmerksamkeit zurück auf sich selbst zu lenken. Dadurch wird der Gesprächspartner als austauschbar eingestuft; es gibt kein ehrliches Interesse. Für oberflächliche Smalltalks funktioniert das gut, doch ein tiefgehendes Gespräch ist nur möglich, wenn man dem Gesprächspartner zuhören und sich auf das Gehörte einlassen kann. Als zuhörendes Gegenüber zeige ich Neugier, Wertschätzung und Mitgefühl. Wer zuhört, nimmt sich selbst zurück.Der Tagesvers besagt, dass Gott ein besonderer Zuhörer ist: Er ist sehr geduldig und zeigt echtes Interesse. Wenn Christen mit Gott reden (nichts anderes ist Gebet), können sie mit allem zu ihm kommen, was sie beschäftigt: Bitten, Klagen, ja, selbst Vorwürfe hält er aus. Und er freut sich, wenn sie Dank und Fürbitte für andere vor ihn bringen. Eine weitere Besonderheit an Gott als Zuhörer ist, dass er uns Menschen in- und auswendig kennt. Er weiß um unsere Bedürfnisse und Nöte genau Bescheid und ist in der Lage, uns für unsere Situation das Beste zu geben.Wenn wir jedoch den Eindruck haben, dass Gott überhaupt nicht reagiert, dann hängt das u. U. damit zusammen, was der Tagesvers im zweiten Teil sagt: Es gibt eine Schranke, die uns von Gott trennt – unsere Sünde. Und die muss beseitigt werden, indem wir ihm unsere Sünden bekennen, sodass er sie vergibt. In Nehemia 9 kommt das Volk Israel zu einem Fastentag zusammen. Noch wenige Tage zuvor war ihnen das Trauern verboten worden (Nehemia 8), weil das Volk zunächst die Freude über Gottes Wort lernen sollte. Nun aber ist die Zeit gekommen, ihre Schuld vor Gott zu bringen. Drei Zeichen der Trauer werden genannt: Fasten, Trauersack und Erde auf dem Kopf.Fasten ist ein bewusster Verzicht auf Essen, um zu zeigen, dass die Begegnung mit Gott wichtiger ist als alles andere. Jesus betont in Matthäus 6,17–18, dass Fasten nicht zur Schau gestellt werden soll, sondern vor Gott geschieht. Für uns kann es bedeuten, bewusst Zeit und Dinge zur Seite zu legen, um uns auf Gott auszurichten. Interessant ist dabei der Gedanke aus 2. Samuel 24,24, als David sagt, dass er Gott nichts opfern will, was ihn nichts kostet. Wahre Hingabe hat immer auch einen Preis.Der Trauersack war ein raues Kleidungsstück, das ständig daran erinnerte, dass man sich in einer Zeit der Buße befand. Ähnlich wie ein sichtbares Zeichen trug man die Trauer bewusst am Körper. Die Erde auf dem Kopf war ein äußeres Zeichen der Demut und Trauer vor anderen Menschen.Dann geschieht etwas Entscheidendes: Das Volk trennt sich von den fremden Völkern und bekennt seine Sünden sowie die Schuld seiner Väter. Einen Vierteltag lang wird aus dem Gesetz Gottes vorgelesen und einen weiteren Vierteltag bekennen sie ihre Sünden. Das Hören auf Gottes Wort führt zur Sündenerkenntnis.Darauf folgt in Nehemia 9 das längste Gebet der Bibel. Es beginnt mit Lobpreis. Gott wird zuerst für seine Schöpfung gepriesen: Er hat Himmel, Erde und Meer geschaffen und allem Leben gegeben. Damit erinnert das Gebet daran, dass Gottes Größe schon in der Schöpfung sichtbar ist (vgl. Römer 1,20).Dann geht das Gebet durch die gesamte Geschichte Israels: von Abraham über den Auszug aus Ägypten, die Wüstenwanderung, die Gabe des Gesetzes bis zur Einnahme des Landes. Immer wieder wird Gottes Treue und Geduldbetont. Selbst als das Volk ungehorsam war – etwa beim goldenen Kalb oder in der Zeit der Richter – blieb Gott barmherzig und rettete sie immer wieder. Ein großer Teil des Gebets zeigt Gottes Treue gerade in Zeiten der Zucht und des Gerichts.Erst am Ende kommt eine Bitte: dass Gott das Leid seines Volkes nicht übersehen möge. Bemerkenswert ist, wie viel Zeit im Gebet auf Lobpreis, Erinnerung an Gottes Handeln und Schuldbekenntnis verwendet wird – und wie wenig auf konkrete Bitten.Als Antwort auf diese Erkenntnis treffen die Israeliten in Nehemia 10 eine verbindliche Entscheidung. Sie halten ihre Verpflichtung schriftlich fest und versiegeln sie. Führer, Priester, Leviten und schließlich das ganze Volk schließen sich an. Rechenschaft und gemeinschaftliche Verpflichtung spielen dabei eine wichtige Rolle.Das Volk verpflichtet sich besonders in drei Bereichen zur Treue gegenüber Gott:Treue in Beziehungen – Sie wollen ihre Kinder nicht mit fremden Völkern verheiraten, um ihren Glauben nicht zu vermischen. Für Christen bedeutet das heute, dass unsere Beziehungen ebenfalls unter Gottes Herrschaft stehen sollen.Treue im Umgang mit Geld und Arbeit – Sie verpflichten sich, den Sabbat zu achten und keine Geschäfte zu machen, die Gottes Gebote umgehen. Wirtschaftlicher Gewinn soll nicht über Gottes Willen stehen.Treue in der Unterstützung von Gottes Werk – Sie sorgen für den Tempeldienst durch Opfer, Zehnten und Erstlingsgaben. Sie wollen sicherstellen, dass das Haus Gottes nicht vernachlässigt wird.Am Ende steht der Satz: „Wir wollen das Haus unseres Gottes nicht vernachlässigen.“Im Neuen Bund ist der Tempel nicht mehr ein Gebäude – wir selbst sind der Tempel des Heiligen Geistes. Die Frage lautet deshalb heute: Sind wir bereit, unser Leben Gott neu hinzugeben und uns bewusst zu verpflichten, diesen Tempel nicht zu vernachlässigen?

Upton graduating from Bridgeport's Central High School, Michael went on to further his education, first attending Southern Connecticut and then UConn. While winning multiple championships as a national martial arts competitor, Michael became a Special Education teacher at Wilbur Cross Elementary School in Bridgeport.Bitten by the acting bug in college, while teaching, Michael began auditioning for commercials and acting gigs on weekends and summer breaks. Michael landed the lead role of Tom Robinson in the first Off-Broadway adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird, starring opposite Tony Award Winner George Grizzard. Shortly after, Michael began landing jobs in commercials and guest starring roles on television shows and films; he eventually left teaching and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career full-time.Before long, Michael would go on to guest star on such hit television shows as Saved by the Bell, Martin, NYPT Bue, and CSI. Summary: Brendan, a Bitcoiner from Uganda, shares his journey into the Bitcoin space, which began in 2016 after discovering it through a scam. This led him to research Bitcoin and eventually build a Bitcoin-only company called GorillaSats. He emphasizes the importance of community and sharing knowledge in the Bitcoin space. His personal journey is intertwined with the evolution of his community, starting with sharing Bitcoin knowledge with friends, then university students, and eventually leading to the creation of a Bitcoin circular economy. Brendan recounts winning a ticket to BTC Prague in 2023 after pitching his circular economy idea, which he crowdfunded through Geyser. At the conference, he met Haman and Fernando, who inspired him to realize that he was already building a circular economy. Upon returning to Uganda, he focused on finding a place to build this economy, which led him to an orphanage already accepting Bitcoin. The orphanage became the perfect place to start, addressing the needs of the children and the community. They implemented the "Fruits for Sats" project, providing daily fruits to the children and paying with Bitcoin using bolt cards. They also improved the orphanage's premises, providing beds, mattresses, and paying for healthcare and tuition fees, all funded by Bitcoin donations. By the end of 2023, the project had received 1.4 BTC and significantly improved the lives of the children. However, they faced a setback when the owner of the school where the children attended decided to close it. Brendan and his team signed an agreement to use the school for two years and eventually bought it, planning to design a Bitcoin-focused curriculum and provide hands-on skills to the children. The orphanage and school are now fully Bitcoinized entities, with teachers being paid in Bitcoin. Brendan highlights the importance of addressing a community's problems with Bitcoin to facilitate its adoption. Brendan discusses the unique challenges faced by the community surrounding the orphanage, including a high ratio of children to adults, early marriages, and a lack of family planning. The orphanage was founded by a barren woman who wanted to give back and provide family love to orphaned children. The main causes of death in the community include poor health habits, AIDS, and drug abuse. Despite these challenges, the project has been successful in improving the health and well-being of the children. GorillaSats is a tourism company focused on East Africa, with a competitive advantage of saving clients money by accepting Bitcoin. Brendan explains that the company's name represents their belief in the tourism space in East Africa and their commitment to Bitcoin values. He sees SATs as the future layer of transaction in Africa. The company aims to remove the high transaction fees associated with traditional payment methods in the tourism industry. By accepting Bitcoin, GorillaSats saves clients and service providers money and enables instant payments. The company has also created a small merchant ecosystem in Uganda, where people can on-ramp and off-ramp via Lightning from GorillaSats. Brendan is piloting Bitcoin mining in Uganda, partnering with a local power generator who uses bio-waste and solar to generate electricity for a local community. The project aims to create a proof of concept for Bitcoin mining in the country, which has a lot of excess energy. GorillaSats also offers itineraries that combine tourism with visits to Bitcoin projects and energy sites. Looking ahead, Brendan will be at Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town in January and is organizing Adopting Bitcoin East Africa in June 2026 in Nairobi, aiming to connect and share knowledge among East African Bitcoin builders.
