You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for June 8, 2026. We open with Border Czar Tom Holman's revelation that the protesters outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark are not grassroots New Jersey residents — they are professional travel protesters identified by facial recognition as having shown up at ICE facilities across the country, many from Portland and Minnesota. We explain why this isn't surprising, why Nancy Pelosi herself coined the term astroturf back in 2010 to describe the exact same tactic, and why the left's first instinct is always to accuse their opponents of the strategies they're already executing. We also ask the question nobody in the media is asking — who is funding this, and why haven't the organizers been charged under the RICO Act for coordinating criminal activity across state lines? In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, Spencer Pratt has apparently been eliminated from the Los Angeles mayor's race — after holding a clear second place on Election Day, his vote share in ballots arriving after Election Day collapsed from 28% to 19%, while Democratic socialist Nithya Raman went from third place to first, gaining 17 percentage points in post-Election Day ballots to overtake both Pratt and Karen Bass. The DOJ is in California investigating the election. Then a 200-page House Oversight Committee report accuses Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of covering up massive Medicaid fraud in his state — including ordering employees to stop investigating fraud in Somali immigrant communities to avoid appearing racist, and then turning the investigative apparatus against the whistleblowers themselves, photographing their cars, monitoring their phones and computers, and finding out where their children went to school. And a nonprofit filed a lawsuit to stop the UFC fight on the White House lawn, claiming it violates federal law and an environmental impact study wasn't conducted before the temporary stadium was built. We discuss President Trump walking out of his interview with Kristen Welker — and our American Mama Teri Netterville says what millions of Americans were thinking when they watched it. We talk about the growing gap between what the media is willing to report on Republicans versus Democrats, how the same anchor who challenges Trump's claim that Capitol Police let protesters into the Capitol has shown that footage on her own broadcast, and why after years of being asked to sit down with people who are going to misrepresent everything he says, the president finally said enough. We also weigh in on Steven Spielberg's new movie Disclosure Day, in which he says he believes aliens have been here, that they are here, and that his film will leave Christians questioning their faith in God. We respectfully decline. We also note that he seems considerably less eager to challenge the faith of groups that don't respond with patience. In our Digging Deep segment, Scott Pelley went to the New York Times after being fired from CBS and complained that his new boss suggested the public thinks CBS is biased — and Pelley demanded to know what evidence exists for that claim. We provide the evidence. Gallup's 2024 poll showed only 31% of Americans had any trust in mass media — the lowest since 1972. In 2025 it dropped to 28%. An Emerson College poll from 2025 found only 18% of Americans have a great deal of trust in national news organizations. Half of Americans believe news organizations deliberately mislead them. AllSides rates CBS with the same left-leaning bias as CNN, the New York Times, NPR, and the Washington Post. All of this was available on the first page of a single search engine query. We say if Pelley couldn't find it, he should have been fired for incompetence, not just insubordination. We cover WNBA player Breonna Turner's objection to the USA 250 anniversary patch on WNBA jerseys — because, she says, none of the players would have been free 250 years ago. We note that basketball wasn't invented until 1891, and more importantly, that America's 250th anniversary is a celebration not of perfection but of the principles in the Declaration of Independence that Martin Luther King himself called a promissory note — the promise that made her freedom possible. For our Bright Spot, the Department of Energy announced last week that a new nuclear reactor reached zero power fueled criticality at a lab in Idaho — the first reactor in 40 years to reach criticality in the United States — a month ahead of President Trump's July 4th deadline that most experts said was impossible. We explain what zero power criticality means, why micro-reactors are a game changer for energy independence, why the U.S. Navy has operated nuclear reactors on submarines and aircraft carriers since the 1950s with zero accidents, and why the future belongs to nations with abundant, affordable, and reliable energy. And we close with Hakeem Jeffries apparently trying to launch his own Contract with America — assembling a Democratic affordability agenda with AOC in charge of healthcare and a transgender member of Congress in charge of caregiving. We wish him luck. We also close with 1,000 avocado growers in the Mexican state of Michoacán setting a world record with 15,000 pounds of guacamole. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Welcome to Mysteries to Die For and this Toe Tag.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is normally a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery. Today is a bonus episode we call a Toe Tag. It is the first chapter from a fresh release in the mystery, crime, and thriller genre.Today's featured release is The Missing Corpse by Yasin KakandeTG Wolff ReviewThe Missing Corpse is a thriller. CIA operative Shawn Wayles has a new mission. Quietly enter Uganda and find President Joel Katila Muaji is dead or alive. Determine if he is alive, has ceded power, is being forced out, or is dead (hint: it's door #4). Whichever it is, bring back proof. In the complicated politics of Uganda, the order is anything but simple.Bottom line: The Missing Corpse is for you if you like powerfully told, hard-hitting thrillers. The story is told from three prospectives. Shawn Wayles is the traditional hero. He is an experienced operative, educated, gutsy and bold, and is a marksman. With no dog in the race, he is determined to execute his mission without prejudice.General Mlevi Kainewaragi is Shawn's counterpart. Son of Muaji, the middle-aged man is power hungry, dictatorial, and shrewd. He is working out of the public eye to orchestrate the next phase of Uganda's history.Joanne Nambatya is the innocent caught in the middle. She and her sister-friend Helen Namusoke work in Uganda's sex trade to provide for themselves and Joanne's son. Joanne has no interest in state politics, and when her association with Shawn puts her on a kidnap list, her only goal is to survive.THE MISSING CORPSE takes us to the beautiful Ugandan countryside but also to it's underbelly. Lovers of hard-hitting thrillers with car chases, fighting, and continuously changing odds will find a lot to sink your teeth into. Trigger warnings apply for depictions of graphic sex and sexual violence and torture. The logic stands-up in this cat-and-mouse style story. Shawn's mission is consistent from the start, as is the General's goal. What happens when the two collide is the thing of thrills. I have a few small questions about Joanne, but nothing that detracts from the story. The ending was very interesting from a storytelling perspective but certainly was satisfying.THE MISSING CORPSE is the second book in The General's Project series. I have not read the first. Book 2 is set some four years later with, from what I can tell, little carrying over. Meaning readers can dive into the series here. The Missing Corpse is published by Black Writers Ink and promoted by Partners In Crime Tours and is available from online book retailersBook Links: Amazon | Kindle | Barnes & Noble | BookShop.org | AudibleAbout Yasin KakandeYasin Kakande is an international journalist, TED Global Fellow, and author of several critically praised non-fiction books, including “Why We Are Coming” and “Slave States,” which offer fresh perspectives on immigration and geopolitics. Detroit: Arsenal of Democracy Again? + New Poll Shakes Up Michigan's Senate Race

On today's Daily Detroit, we dig into a fresh Emerson College poll that shakes up the Michigan U.S. Senate race. If their numbers are right, the Democratic primary is suddenly a two-person contest, with Abdul El‑Sayed and Mallory McMorrow tied at the top and Haley Stevens slipping into third, even as more than a third of voters are still undecided. We talk through the big generational split driving those numbers, and reshaping the Democratic coalition, and why jobs and the economy are still the real deciders for that huge undecided block. We also touch on a few other topics in the poll. Then, we zoom out to a bigger question with deep Detroit roots: should this region become the "Arsenal of Democracy" again? A quiet Pentagon push to involve automakers in weapons production is colliding with the reality that we may be past peak car sales. We talk about what that could mean on the ground here. That means drones and cybersecurity to good-paying munitions jobs in old factory space, plus  the moral, emotional, and neighborhood-level questions that come with it. If forced to pick between the two, would you rather live next to a data center or a munitions plant, and who actually gets the jobs either way? We wrestle with nostalgia, economic necessity, and what kind of future Detroiters really want to build. Your feedback is always welcome - dailydetroit - at - gmail - dot - com 313-789-3211.

One of the most polarizing questions in the mind of any photographer is "Should—or shouldn't I—get an agent?"  The role of an agent in a photographer's career is often misunderstood, leading hungry creatives to think that securing representation is their number one key to success. In truth, the relationship between a photographer and agent is far more nuanced than simply booking more assignments. In today's podcast, we take a deep dive into this complex alliance in a discussion with two generations of top agents, whose combined careers span from the film-era to the latest in media buys.  Listen in for a behind-the-scenes look at the many details involved, from the four P's Jennifer (JP) Perlmutter looks for in a photographer's work to Michael Ash's skill in editing a portfolio to allow a photographer's individual vision and passion to shine. Our experts also shed light on critical topics such as branding, while making distinctions between a physical and emotional brand. Get fresh insights about standing out in an oversaturated marketplace and the matter of seeing ahead of the curve on trends. As JP notes, "You don't have to hop on the current trend. You don't need to create the new trend. You need to create what's true to you, what's true to your vision, and then know that there are enough people out there—that there is your niche. There are the people who are going to love what you're doing." I had the chance to see Academy Award–winning director Chloe Zhao speak at Emerson College's Los Angeles campus, and her insights were some of the most thoughtful I've heard about filmmaking and creativity. In this episode, I break down the biggest lessons from her talk — including how losing two years of footage from her first film forced her to surrender and start something new, a decision that ultimately launched her career. We also explore her approach to working with non-actors, the paradox of authenticity in performance, and the somatic rituals she uses to help actors embody their characters before filming. Zhao also shared insights about casting child actors, the role of synchronicity in creative careers, and why artists must “live the question” rather than chase certainty.Whether you're a filmmaker, storyteller, or artist in any medium, these ideas touch on the deeper realities of creative work: embracing uncertainty, trusting intuition, and earning the privilege of an audience.I also reflect on how these lessons connect to my own work developing The Arbiters, where storyboards and animatics are helping transform a script into something people can actually see and feel.If you're pursuing a creative path, these takeaways from Chloe Zhao might change the way you think about failure, process, and artistic success.

A feminist romp through pop culture that illuminates how women influence and shape the economy. Taylor Swift isn't just a pop megastar. She is a working woman whose astounding accomplishments defy patriarchal norms. And while not all women can be Beyoncé or Dolly Parton or Reese Witherspoon, the successes of these trailblazing stars help us understand the central role of women in today's economy. Swiftynomics: How Women Mastermind and Redefine Our Economy (U California Press, 2026) assesses the complex economic lives of everyday American women through the stories of groundbreakers like Taylor Swift, Misty L. Heggeness digs into the data, revealing women's hidden contributions and aspirations—the unexamined value they create by pursuing their own ambitions. She highlights the abundance of productive activity in their daily lives and acknowledges the barriers they still face. Exploring critical reforms regarding caregiving and gendered labor, this book offers advice for women to thrive in an economy that was not built for them. More about the author: Misty L. Heggeness is co-director of the Kansas Population Center, Associate Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at the University of Kansas, and former Principal Economist and Senior Advisor at the US Census Bureau. I went back and watched Donald Trump's speech at Davos after the reaction to it spiraled into calls for the 25th Amendment. Having seen it in full, I have to say, that response struck me as pretty overstated. The speech was odd, repetitive, and occasionally sloppy, but it was also entirely familiar. Trump no longer has multiple registers. He speaks the same way at Davos that he does in Greensboro, North Carolina. Rally Trump is the only Trump left.Yes, he mixed up Greenland and Iceland, and that matters if you believe he is on the brink of ordering military action. But once the Greenland panic subsided and the White House quietly declared the issue settled, the speech reads less like evidence of incapacity and more like evidence of stagnation. Trump told the same tariff stories, did the same accents, and framed global politics through the same lens of personal deal making. That consistency may be unnerving, but it is not new. If anything, the Davos speech underscored how little adaptation Trump feels he needs to make, even on the world stage.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.DHS Infighting and the Immigration Power StruggleThe most revealing domestic story was the open tension inside the Department of Homeland Security. Reporting that Kristi Noem and Corey Lewandowski are trying to force out CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott is not just palace intrigue. It exposes a deeper divide between political operatives and career enforcement officials. On one side are Stephen Miller's allies, filtering through Noem and Lewandowski, pushing for maximal optics and aggressive deportation numbers. On the other are figures like Tom Homan and Rodney Scott, who argue that certain tactics erode public trust and make enforcement harder, not easier. Homan's recent media blitz reflects that anxiety. He keeps stressing that deportations are happening, that priorities exist, and that blue state resistance is the real bottleneck. When enforcement professionals feel compelled to publicly justify their competence, it usually means politics has begun to overwhelm operations.Congress Moves, Barely, and Voters NoticeOn Capitol Hill, the House narrowly passed funding for the Department of Homeland Security, overcoming Democratic opposition tied to immigration enforcement concerns. It was not a clean win. Only seven Democrats supported the bill, and the compromises focused on oversight rather than substantive limits on ICE. Still, the broader takeaway is that Congress is moving more bills than expected for late January, even as shutdown deadlines loom.At the same time, new polling suggests Democrats are regaining momentum. An Emerson College survey shows Democrats leading Republicans by six points on the generic congressional ballot, alongside Trump's approval sitting well underwater. Six points is not a wave by itself, but it is the range where wave watching becomes justified. Voters are signaling frustration on affordability and foreign policy, and that dissatisfaction is beginning to register in the numbers. If that margin holds or grows, Republicans will not be able to dismiss it as noise.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:03:23 - Davos00:16:05 - Ryan McBeth on Venezuela00:43:29 - Update00:43:58 - DHS Infighting00:47:18 - DHS Funding00:48:28 - Midterms Polling00:50:13 - Ryan McBeth on Iran01:06:19 - Ryan McBeth on Russia-Ukraine01:14:44 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. A recent Emerson College poll in the Texas Senate primary is raising questions, with critics challenging its results. More on that ahead. Tennessee activist Pamela Moses is challenging the state's permanent disenfranchisement laws after she was charged and convicted of voter fraud. Moses eventually had the charges dropped. She and her attorney will be here to talk about the upcoming case. Another example of Black history being erased -- Frederick Douglass excluded from a U.S coin series honoring America's most celebrated leaders. Texas A&M University canceled a graduate Ethics course after a Black professor refused to comply with a discriminatory ban on certain subjects. Catherine (Katie) Ulissey, wife and research partner of geologist Dr. Robert Schoch, found her early years shaped by dance. Conservatory trained, she turned professional at the age of 16, performing with classical ballet and contemporary dance companies, and later transitioning to musical theater, performing on Broadway in a number of productions including the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera". Her early childhood in Saudi Arabia sparked a lifelong fascination with ancient mysteries. Katie and Dr. Schoch met at a conference on the topic in 2007 and married on Easter Island in 2010. Together, they have co-authored works exploring ancient civilizations and their connections to cosmic events. Katie has contributed significantly to her husband's research, including connecting Easter Island's previously undeciphered rongorongo script to global “plasma petroglyphs” first identified by renowned physicist Dr. Anthony Peratt of Los Alamos National Laboratory. This discovery shifted her husband's research toward our Sun as the probable cause of the end of the last ice age. Related to this, she noticed giant Lichtenberg patterns emanating from beneath the Great and Second Pyramids on the Giza Plateau (dendritic patterns would be consistent with plasma ejected during massive solar outbursts). More recently, she has offered an hypothesis regarding the potential “Ancient and Intentional Burial of Ancient Egypt” (in similar fashion to Göbekli Tepe). She holds a B.A. from Emerson College (2002) and stays connected to her dance roots by teaching ballet at Wellesley College. She is the author of a children's book, “Adriana and the Ancient Mysteries: The Great Sphinx”, published in German, Italian, and English (revised edition).Dr. Robert M. Schoch, a full-time faculty member at the College of General Studies at Boston University since 1984, and a recipient of its Peyton Richter Award for interdisciplinary teaching, earned his Ph.D. in Geology and Geophysics at Yale University in 1983. He also holds an M.S. and M.Phil. in Geology and Geophysics from Yale, as well as degrees in Anthropology (B.A.) and Geology (B.S.) from George Washington University. In recognition of his research into ancient civilizations, Dr. Schoch was awarded (in 2014) the title of Honorary Professor of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2017, the College of General Studies at Boston University named him Director of its Institute for the Study of the Origins of Civilization (ISOC).In the early 1990s, Dr. Schoch stunned the world with his revolutionary research that recast the date of the Great Sphinx of Egypt to a period thousands of years earlier than its standard attribution. In demonstrating that the leonine monument has been heavily eroded by water despite the fact that its location on the edge of the Sahara has endured hyper-arid climactic conditions for the past 5,000 years, Dr. Schoch revealed to the world that mankind's history is greater and older than previously believed. The subsequently excavated 12,000-year-old megalithic site of Göbekli Tepe in Turkey confirmed these assertions.Dr. Schoch's more recent research has focused on the cataclysmic events that ended Earth's last ice age, circa 9700 BCE, simultaneously decimating the high civilizations of the time. The overwhelming evidence drawn from varying disciplines, put forth in his book Forgotten Civilization: New Discoveries on the Solar-Induced Dark Age (2021), points to enormous solar outbursts as the cause.Dr. Schoch has been quoted extensively in the media for his work on ancient cultures and monuments around the globe. His research has been instrumental in spurring renewed attention to the interrelationships between geological and astronomical phenomena, natural catastrophes, and the early history of civilization. He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows and is featured in the Emmy-winning documentary The Mystery of the Sphinx, which first aired on NBC in 1993.The author and coauthor of books both technical and popular, Dr. Schoch's works include Phylogeny Reconstruction in Paleontology (1986), Stratigraphy: Principles and Methods (1989), Voices of the Rocks (1999), Voyages of the Pyramid Builders (2003), Pyramid Quest (2005), The Parapsychology Revolution (2008), Forgotten Civilization: The Role of Solar Outbursts in Our Past and Future (2012), Origins of the Sphinx (2017), and the 2nd edition (revised and expanded) of Forgotten Civilization, subtitled New Discoveries on the Solar-Induced Dark Age (2021), among others. Dr. Schoch is also the coauthor of an environmental science textbook used in universities across the United States, and he has contributed to numerous magazines, journals, and reviews on geology, ancient civilizations, parapsychology, and other topics. His works have been translated into a number of languages and distributed around the world.Besides his academic and scholarly studies, Dr. Schoch is an active environmental advocate who stresses a pragmatic, hands-on approach. In this connection, he helped found a local community land trust devoted to protecting land from harmful development, serving on its Board of Directors for many years. And despite acknowledging that our Sun is a major driver of climate on the planet, Dr. Schoch takes an active part in “green” politics; for over a decade he served as an elected member of his local city council. In 1993, an extinct mammal genus was named Schochia in honor of Dr. Schoch's paleontological contributions. It was at the instigation of the late John Anthony West (1932—2018) that Dr. Schoch first began studying the age of the Sphinx. The chamber beneath the Sphinx's paw, which Dr. Schoch, working with Dr. Thomas Dobecki, discovered in the early 1990s and which many people believe is an ancient archive or "Hall of Records" remains unexplored. In 2010 (and grateful to the dignitaries who made it possible), Dr. Schoch married former ballet and Broadway dancer Catherine Ulissey in both civil and traditional Rapanui ceremonies on Easter Island.Dr. Schoch's website is www.robertschoch.com.- - - - -Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.

Andrew Walworth, Tom Bevan, and Carl Cannon discuss this morning's lengthy New York Times article exploring whether President Donald Trump is showing his age. Also, in what many view as a new low, former MSNBC host Joy Reid advances what she calls a “MAGA fairy tale,” in which Vice President JD Vance will leave his wife Usha to marry Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, because “he needs a white queen instead of a brown Hindu.” Reid's MSNBC show was cancelled last February. Next, RCP White House correspondent Phil Wegmann joins the guys to discuss today's leak of a conversation between Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his Russian counterpart, as well as who might have been the source behind the leak. They also discuss Wegmann's most recent RCP article on the split within the Republican Party on foreign policy, as revealed by the latest round of negotiations over the war in Ukraine. Then, they talk about new data from Emerson College polling that shows that the upcoming special election in Tennessee's deep red seventh district is surprisingly close, with Democrat Aftyn Behn now within two points of Republican Matt Van Epps. And finally, they look at annual advice columns on talking politics around the Thanksgiving table. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Shutdown Senate VoteThe shutdown rolls on, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune has already said it is unlikely the Senate will vote this weekend. That means the government shutdown will extend into next week unless something changes Friday morning. He criticized Democrats for demanding an extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies in the stopgap bill and insisted negotiations must begin only once the government reopens. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is predicting GOP unity will falter as the shutdown drags on, but I'm not convinced. From where I sit, the numbers tell the story. Three Democrats voted with Republicans last time. Rand Paul opposes continuing resolutions, so Republicans will need eight Democrats to reach 60 votes because J.D. Vance is the tie breaker. Every time the Senate votes, I'm watching to see if more than three Democrats side with Republicans — that's the real signal of where this is going.I don't believe Democrats are built for shutdowns. They're posturing as if they're ready to see this through, but the longer it goes the more likely rank and file members will embarrass Chuck Schumer into ending it. The real pain — furloughs, firings, and cuts to the federal workforce — is only going to show up if this lasts into next week. That's when the Russ Vought part of the story kicks in, and that's when this gets serious.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. Early voting is already underway with more than 146,000 ballots cast. Among those voters, Spanberger leads 60 to 38 and still holds a 50 to 43 edge among those yet to vote. Her gains have come from independents, men, and younger voters. Independents back her by 19 points, men are evenly split, and voters under 50 favor her by 27 points. History suggests the party that is not in the White House usually wins the Virginia governor's race. Based on that, I'd bet Spanberger, even though this isn't exactly an electric matchup. The only real advantage Sears has is the men's and women's sports issue — a culture war topic, not a kitchen table one. I don't think that will be enough, especially in Northern Virginia, which is heavily government dependent and angry at the president. Add on Sears not being a great candidate and Spanberger looks far stronger heading into November.Bailouts are BackTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the Trump administration will announce substantial support for U.S. farmers next week, likely funded by tariff revenue. Soybean growers have been hit hard as China has halted U.S. purchases during their trade war. Bessent accused Beijing of using farmers as hostages in negotiations but pledged aid, noting their loyalty to Trump. He discussed the plan with the president and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, but details and costs remain unclear. Argentina's discounted soybean sales to China have undercut U.S. farmers and stoked tension. Bailouts are back, and this is classic Trump — he's never been a fiscal hawk and has no problem using the federal government's pocketbook to shape the world as he sees fit. That's where things stand. Farmers are hurting, the administration is signaling payouts, and we'll see next week how big the support really is.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro and Synagogue Shooting00:03:47 - Interview with Gloria Young00:34:28 - Update00:34:44 - Shutdown00:38:08 - Abigail Spanberger00:40:18 - Farmers00:41:49 - Interview with Gloria Young (con't)01:03:18 - Wrap-up This is a public episode.
