Sie ist der Ansicht, die US-Regierung habe mit dem 14-Punkte-Papier das Mullah-Regime gestärkt, nicht geschwächt. In dieser Folge des Brettspiel-News-Podcasts begrüßt Host Stephan zwei der drei Designer von Believe in Me! (Please): Erik Haffner und Cornel Krizsan – zwei Menschen, die nicht nur Brettspiele entwickeln, sondern auch an deutschen Comedy-Meilensteinen wie Bernd das Brot, Pastewka und Sketch History mitgewirkt haben. Mit am Tisch sitzt außerdem Steffen, der die wichtige Rolle des Mannes übernimmt, der gelegentlich nickt und Fragen stellt.Believe in Me! (Please) erscheint noch 2026 bei Wyrmgold. Das Spiel wurde über fast fünf Jahre entwickelt – begonnen noch vor der Corona-Pandemie – und verbindet das Thema falscher Gottheiten mit einem wilden Mix aus Tableau-Building, Deckbuilding, Worker Placement und einem verdeckten Stichmechanismus. Das Besondere: Das Thema stand zuerst da, inspiriert von Terry Pratchett und Monty Python, und die Mechaniken wurden darum herum gebaut. Ein Verlag, der das Götter-Thema durch Autos ersetzen wollte, bekam eine klare Absage.Die MacherDass der Humor so präzise sitzt, ist kein Zufall. Alle drei Designer kommen aus der Filmbranche:Erik Haffner ist Autor und Regisseur im Comedy-Bereich. Er war Regisseur bei Bernd das Brot, Pastewka und Sketch History und viele Jahre Companion von Tommy Krabbeweiss' Produktionsfirma.Cornel Krizsan begann als Regieassistent an Eriks Seite und ist heute selbst Regisseur, unter anderem für Soko Köln und Soko Stuttgart.Henneke Holst (in dieser Folge nicht dabei) arbeitet als Skript-Supervisor und achtet am Set darauf, dass keine Anschlussfehler passieren.Kennengelernt haben sie sich an Filmsets – und in den typischen Wartezeiten zwischen den Drehs ihr gemeinsames Hobby entdeckt: Brettspiele.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Lazar Focus. Each Friday, join host diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman for a deep dive into what's behind the news that spins the globe. Last week, Germany failed to secure a temporary seat on the powerful United Nations Security Council. There were several theories about the reason for Berlin's failure, but Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul offered a striking one — that it could be that Germany's support for Israel cost it the coveted seat. Germany is indeed one of Israel's closest allies in the world, and has been for decades. At the same time, the special relationship Israel enjoys with Berlin -- like its ties with other key allies -- has come under strain in the wars it has pursued in the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. In August 2025, Germany announced a partial arms embargo on Israel over its decision to conquer Gaza City. To discuss the roots and the state of the Germany-Israel relationship, German Ambassador Steffen Seibert joined the podcast, weeks before he wraps up his four-year tenure and returns to Berlin. He rejects the idea that Germany's approach to Israel is guided by "Holocaust guilt." Instead, he says that the Shoah is a compass for Germany, which has the responsibility to learn the appropriate lessons from that dark period and let them guide its foreign policy. Seibert stresses that the Germany-Israel relationship is also rooted in shared democratic values and common interests. At the same time, he emphasizes that the special relationship exists within the pre-1967 borders, and that it sees Israel's presence in the West Bank as a violation of international law. On the war in Gaza, Seibert calls Israel's military response "inevitable and logical." Still, he says, there are questions over "how it was fought, how long it was fought." Still, he says that Hamas bears the main responsibility for the plight of Gazans. Seibert explains that Germany's decision not to intervene on Israel's behalf in the ICJ genocide case against Israel is a tactical move, as Berlin faces its own charges over its support for Israel: "It changes the assessment that we took at the beginning of the conflict. It's to do with the court case that we find ourselves in." Turning to the Iran war, Seibert says the Israeli-US campaign was "definitely understandable," but that continued fighting won't achieve much, and that it is now time to turn military gains into a political arrangement. Seibert, who learned Hebrew during his tenure, says that he is not sure what he will do next, but intends to continue spending time in Israel while he works to "reinvent" himself in the next phase of his career. Training a frontier AI model today requires hundreds of thousands of GPUs, months of compute time, and a budget that only a handful of companies on earth can afford. Steffen Cruz, co-founder and CTO of Macrocosmos, thinks that model is about to break, and he's spending his time building what comes next. His project IOTA, operating within the BitTensor blockchain ecosystem, uses distributed training to split large language models across thousands of devices located around the world, coordinated by blockchain, and powered by surplus cheap energy wherever it exists. After nine months of research, the system can reproduce baseline benchmark performance using what Cruz calls "wonky vegetables" - unreliable, churning, globally distributed compute - and turn it into something indistinguishable from centralized training if you use the right approach. The conversation with Craig Smith covers the mechanics of how this actually works, why the blockchain's role is far narrower and more practical than most people assume, and why the Mac mini stockpiling trend creates an unexpected supply of distributed compute that can earn passive income when idle. Cruz's target: a 70 billion parameter model by mid-2025, trained at 10-20% of what it would cost through a hyperscaler, and aimed squarely at the legal firms, hospitals, and cash-strapped startups that have been waiting to train their own sovereign models but couldn't afford the price tag. What if you could train a frontier AI model without building a single data centre? In this episode of Eye on AI, Craig Smith sits down with Steffen Cruz, co-founder and CTO of Macrocosmos, to explore a radical alternative to the way AI models are built today. Instead of billion-dollar GPU warehouses, Steffen is training large language models using idle compute from devices distributed around the world, coordinated through the Bittensor blockchain. Steffen breaks down why the centralised data centre model is heading toward a wall. Projects like Stargate and Colossus cost tens of billions of dollars, and as appetite for larger models grows, the economics simply stop making sense. He explains how distributed training flips this on its head, tapping into surplus energy, underutilised GPUs, and even consumer devices like Mac Minis to train models at a fraction of the cost. We also get into IOTA, Macrocosmos's flagship technology, an orchestration layer that takes compute nodes scattered across the globe and makes them act like a single supercomputer. No single device runs the full model. Instead, each one carries a small slice, a technique called model parallelism, and together they can train frontier-scale models that would otherwise be out of reach for startups, researchers, and enterprises.
