Turn left and go up the mountain to the Eastern Continental Divide and beautiful vistas. (Bring your camera) Then it's 25 miles down the mountain and back to Cumberland. Time on the bike is about 35 miles. You can add miles by going beyond the Continental Divide.Cumberland is 148 miles from Pittsburgh, about 2 hours and 40 minutes. We talk the big grungey four and recall way back to the time Jaybo left his cozy life in St Augustine in search of sparkling adventure and a musical pathway. A tale of illicit substance, beat poetry and just plain making due in a new city and a new coast. Recorded in a 5 story house on the richest street in Cumberland MD on a silver laptop and mic sitting weirdly on a bed in a rose wallpapered room a couple days before Halloweed 2018. Enjoy!

Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis

Matt Philippi is not currently looking to do a thru-hike of the AT. For Matt, biting off sections is a satisfying way to de-stress from his job. He contacted me to talk about the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath. It is quite some towpath, running from Washington DC to Cumberland MD and measuring over 184 miles. I had previously intended speaking with Matt but I dropped the ball on that, so it was good to hear from him again. This time, we combined his C&O hike with his experiences hiking the AT in sections. Matt shared a link to the C&O Canal Towpath. https://www.nps.gov/choh/index.htm. If you'd like to know more about this trail, or indeed, section-hiking the Appalachian Trail, email me and Matt will be happy to respond to your questions. As you can see from the waterfall below, it certainly has some great sights. Matt completed the hike with his work colleague and is as proud of his "summit" picture as I am of my own on Katahdin–as he should be. Dr Lynne and I discuss arthritis and joints this week on Doc Spot. Don't forget, we're going to be losing Dr Lynne soon because she's run out of trail ailments. On the other hand, if you have some hiking-related medical questions that we haven't covered, she'd be delighted to answer them on a kind of wrap up show. Don't forget to support our sponsor, Trailtopia and make sure you follow Bruce as he gets closer to his start date in late February. You can find his great show, Returning To Katahdin wherever you listen to podcasts.

Welcome back to the show! This week is by far the Friendiest podcast ever! Inspired by the first song I played, I challenged myself and some friends to, "Remember When We Were Young." I spoke to four great friends.  We get to speak to Ryan Dougherty, long time friend, painter, whose work was featured in the Monkelion comic and is also featured on the cover of this episode and Cali-based tye dyer (like he will tye-dye anything).  We get to speak to Tim and Lydia, hometown friends from Cumberland MD, Delfest Foundation Board members and just plain great people.  We get to speak to John Griffin, former owner of Larry’s Landing in St. John, USVI, great friend and a guy I have looked up to since the day I met him.  We get to speak to Colby Dix, one half of the comic gold that is Touchpants, guitar player, and album releaser. We got to speak to all these great people and hear songs that helped shape their musical journeys young in life.  It was a true honor and something we are going to do again.  If you’d like to be on the next show or have questions you want answered on the show, email me at eli@cosmiclionproductions.com
