Mike walks us through what it was like to organize a huge project during a pandemic, and what it was like to shoot his old high school one last time.  The stories are absolutely amazing and his photographs are bringing the life once lived in the hallways back to life.  He will be exhibiting his show at the Allegany Arts Council in July of 2022. David Hill is the founder of Free indeed Ministries, a non-profit located at 201 N. Centre Street in Cumberland, MD. David started out life in Baltimore MD and his path in life lead him here. David started the Hope Against Heroin in Allegany County raising awareness about the opioid epidemic in our area. He has been an outstation "life coach" for those around him for the past 28 years. David's story is one that should inspire you to put kindness and love into your community.

Brian demistifies what his job tittle means and how much power  the office of Mayor possesses, and the reality of how much time and effort goes into this job. The city of Cumberland has issues like any other municipality and our conversation touches on public safety, opiate addiction, infrastructure improvements, green energy solutions, and economic development/job creation. Queen City Film Festival 2018

The Queen City Film Festival is Western Maryland's premier film festival, this year October 4-7 2018 in Cumberland Md. The QCFF is currently in its eighth year and is being held at Mezzo's  114 S. Centre Street on the third floor. The QCFF offers a four-day program of screenings and educational panels, and welcomes filmmakers from around the world.  This year they are featuring 89 Films over eight categories and featuring six Maryland filmmakers. Ryan is gracing the airwaves once again with a few extra letters behind his name. He recently finished his doctorate in conducting and is back to talk about the importance of music. Ryan while studying has been racking up the air miles to come back home to participate and help run Mountainside Baroque a local non-profit. Mountainside Baroque, Cumberland’s early music collective has established itself as a staple of the cultural scene in the mid-Atlantic region, known for its excellent performances of music written before 1800. Frostburg State design students have partnered with the CLA to get poetry in the community. The prose and stanzas will appear under your feet... so go walk in the rain! The CLA is hosting Coffee with the Writer with Lowell Duckert, and his book For All Waters: Finding Ourselves in Early Modern Wetscapes. Duckhert WVU associate professor will be discussing his book on April 28, 2018 from 10am-12pm Expresses your creativity in one-act Submit before the deadline and you might get you see your show in lights! Frostburg Grows is helping you celebrate spring by brushing up on your gardening skills with their Seed Exchange March 11, from 2p-4p at City Place in Frostburg. They have partnered with local master gardeners, that will be providing demonstrations, answering gardening questions, and  seed exchanges.  If you are trying to expand your gardening prowess, by signing up for a community garden plot at Frostburg Grows high tunnels and raised beds.  If you are interested in a native plant sale it will be happening May 12 from 10-3p Frostburg Grows is a sustainable agriculture and training center located in Frostburg, MD. The 5-acre site, formerly used for coal mining, has been re-purposed to demonstrate innovative, sustainable land usage. The organization is committed to growing food for the future, supporting local farms in our area, and training others to do the same. Frostburg Grows is utilizing their growing space to grow food donations for local food pantries. They are encouraging everyone to donate extra foods their garden is producing to the local farmers markets. Our favorite show regular Michael Thompson (last years winner) is back discussing the second annual Photographic Competition and Exhibition. This event is being held April 7, 2018 at the Allegany Arts Council 9 North Center Street in Cumberland Maryland. The call is officially out to submit your photos (do that HERE)  The submissions are due Feb 20, 2018 and the cash prizes over $5,000. The Juror who has the hard job of picking the winners this year is Karen Irvine. Karen is the curator and associate director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP) at Columbia College Chicago. She has organized over forty five exhibitions of contemporary photography at the MoCP and other venues including the Hyde Park Art Center;  Rockford Art Museum; Lishui International Photography Festival, China; Daegu Photography Biennale, South Korea, and the New York Photo Festival. Love Letters; Doug Schwab and Betsey Hurwitz-Schwab

We are kicking off our fourth season with Doug and Betsey. Their voices should sound familiar as they have both been featured on previously.  This episode they join forces to discuss their upcoming debut in Love Letters a play written by A. R. Gurney. This popular play has been performed many times over on broadway, but locally was made famous by Doug's parents Leonard and Jane Schwab.  The performances of past and present have always been a fundraiser for the Cumberland Theatre and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the theatre. The 2018 run will be February 17th and 18th ONLY so our advice is to purchase your tickets early!  Enjoy!

While trying to tackle this subject I quickly realized that this would need to be an on going topic of conversation involving different professionals that can help with understanding the different facets of this topic.

We ventured back to Basecamp Coffee, and my have they grown!            Basecamp has launched their online store so you can enjoy their coffee all over the world.  In order to grow Basecamp has moved to a larger roasting location that will accommodate a larger production facility to bring the freshest coffee to your cup.  Hayden  discusses their signature blends of coffee and where you can enjoy a freshly brewed cup locally. Hayden is very reachable and loves to hear from the customer, it's good to know your coffee roaster say hello at farmers markets and events throughout the year. Basecamp Cafe is in the works so stay tuned to for more information as it develops. The Women’s Action Coalition, Greater Allegany County began following the  the Women’s March in Washington, DC, January 21, 2017. Their mission is to increase our understanding of the current political situation, take action to bridge divides, and acknowledge the inherent value of each person, without exception.  This episode we will be promoting the First  Book Discussion in partnership with the Allegany County Public Library system; Hillbilly Elegy. This book will help kick start dialogue and hopefully bring about change and understanding. The gallery where "Gathering is an Art" is open     nine days a month, from the first Friday to the second Saturday. Each month brings new artwork, a fresh theme and new events. Hours are late afternoon, early evening during the week (Monday-Thursday), later on Friday, all day on Saturdays and Sunday afternoon. Karen Lau and Brent Weber stopped by the show to discuss the FSU Summer Music Academy, in it's second year and very much a passion project for Karen, they have grown the Academy and 24 students will be participating in this fun week long academy. The Frostburg State University Summer Music Academy was created with the mission to promote classical music education all over the world.  The Summer Music Academy will help the young students develop an appreciation of culture through musical experiences. This academy will bring top artists from around the world to the Western Maryland as guest artists and teachers and they will be performing in the evenings. The Academy and the concert series is runs from July 22-28 2017. All performances are in Peeler Hall at 7pm (3:30pm on July 22 only) in the Performing Arts Building on Frostburg State University Campus.
