Stuffed with turkey and cake, the podcast is back and stuff with news on present and former Blue Jays! Ryan Andrews begins with a look at the underlying stats of newest Blue Jay Julian Merryweather, with the help of Jeff Quattrociocchi of JaysfromtheCouch.com. Andrews believes that Merryweather's current injury status will help the Blue Jays in the short-term with its roster conundrum, and in the long-term with Merryweather potentially following David Paulino and Taylor Guerrieri into the bullpen. The second and third segments are dedicate to seeing how former Blue Jays are performing in the playoffs. Andrews laments the loss of Seunghwan Oh from the postseason, but cheers the brilliant run from former Jay Erik Kratz, who has a .625 average for Milwaukee. In the American League, Andrews discusses how the ex-Jays did not perform for Cleveland, and how J.A. Happ struggled to show Boston anything new in his start. It took some to recover, but Ryan Andrews is finally ready to talk about what happened last night, with your help! The host tries to wrap their head around what exactly the Blue Jays managed to do in last night's stunning seven-run comeback in the ninth inning against the Rays. Recapping what occurred, Andrews waxes poetic about how innings like that can restore faith in baseball, and praises the youngsters (Dwight Smith Jr., Rowdy Tellez, Jonathan Davis, Danny Jansen and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.) as well as the steely veteran Justin Smoak, who delivered the final blow. Sam Gaviglio is the focus of the second segment. Andrews cites Karen Soutar's assessment of Gaviglio as a future swingman for the Blue Jays and Roy Widrig's article on JaysFromTheCouch.com about the state of the 2019 Blue Jays rotation and where Gaviglio fits in. The bullpen also gets a look, complete with more praise for Tim Mayza and some for David Paulino as well. Andrews closes with a discussion about the news that MLB has placed Addison Russell on administrative leave. The host draws parallels to the Roberto Osuna situation and stresses the need for MLB to start taking its domestic violence problems seriously. Special thanks to @KarenSoutar1, @rolewiii, @melmora_, @dodgerfanalways, @gsnap_abk6, @dodgesroadkill, @LittleLostPixie, @Jellybean_bzkit and @brightskies99 for their contributions! After a medical issue forced the shared observance of an off-day, host Ryan Andrews is back for another week of Blue Jays talk as the season winds towards its conclusion! Andrews leads a dissertation on the lessons learned from the Cleveland series, starting with everyone's favorite son Rowdy Tellez. Andrews examines where Rowdy's performance has put him on the Blue Jays map moving forward and what the club can do with him in 2019 given Justin Smoak and Kendrys Morales occupy his position. In the second segment, Andrews turns to the pitching and the starts that the Blue Jays delivered over the weekend. Marco Estrada was solid, but the Nova Scotian believes the Magician will need to put a couple more good shows together if he wants to reappear on the 2019 roster, then wonders if Thomas Pannone hasn't edged ahead of Sean Reid-Foley in the battle for a 2019 rotation slot. The final third is dedicated to the bullpen and a new strategy that the Blue Jays seem to be adapting from Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro's Cleveland days. With Taylor Guerrieri and David Paulino both working single innings in the series, Andrews wonders if this isn't a tactic to get longer arms in the Toronto bullpen to combat the durability and length issues that the team has seen sink their starters this year.
