On today's episode, Javier takes a second for some fun before Opening Day to take a look at AJ Preller's history of big trades! Javi looks at everything from the 2015 disasterclass (Justin Upton, Wil Myers, Matt Kemp, Craig Kimbrel) to the legendary Tatis trade, if Mike Clevinger was a miss for either side, the Juan Soto blockbuster in retrospect, how the Yu Darvish trade has aged, if Preller has more W's than L's, and much more! Take 10 with Tim – Trade deadline reviewWe will review some of the big trades and discuss the players involved.1.The Astros acquired Justin Verlander from the Mets for two outfield prospects, Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifforda. The Astros and Verlander reunite. They are surging. Is this enough to overcome/hold off the Rangers2.The Rangers acquired Max Scherzer from the Mets for LuisAngel Acuna and pay a pick part of his salary.a.The Rangers acquire Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton from the Cardinals for Thomas Sagesse, Tekoah Roby, and John Kingb. The Rangers remake 40% of their starting rotation and give up some prospect capital in doing it. Does this help/hurt Scherzer and Montgomery's fantasy output?3.The Marlins acquired Josh Bell from the Guardians for Khalil Watson and Jean Segura, whom they releaseda. They also acquired Jake Burger from the White Sox for Jake Ederb. They then acquired Ryan Weathers from the Padres for Garrett Cooperc.WOW…you got to give the Marlins credit for trying. Do you know what they are doing? Will it work?d.In Cleveland, is Kyle Manzardo a player that people should be targeting? Isn't the path open for him?4.The Orioles acquired Jack Flaherty from the Cardinals for Cesar Prieto and Drew Roma.A lot of people were disappointed that the Orioles didn't do more, what is your take?b.Does Flaherty help them? Will he better than his 4.43 ERA has been this year with the Cardinals?5.So the Mets… They trade many of their older players and according to Max Scherzer will likely not compete next season. There's also rumors that they will shop Pete Alonso and Nimmo over the winter.a.It feels like what the San Diego Padres did circa 2014-15 when AJ Preller was just hired. He brought in many big-name players to win (James Shields, Matt Kemp, Ryan Haniger, Wil Myers (the big deal that sent Trea Turner to Washington), etc., to dismantle it and start over again with Tatis Jr. as the base. b.Your thoughts on what they are doing?c.We will talk about what that team might look like the rest of the year and next. 6.The Angels brought in a bunch of players as well. Lucas Giolito, CJ Cron, Randal Grichuk.a.Does this push them over the threshold?b.Is this enough to convince Ohtani to stay?c.Pickups in Colorado?7.Any other trades of note for you?8.What one hitter will you be targeting this weekend?9.What one pitcher will you be targeting this weekend? This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3306394/advertisement

The Reds are serious about winning as Nick Krall showed in his press conference announcing the DFA of Wil Myers. The Reds will be buyers at the deadline. The Reds bullpen has performed well, this season, but is it being used too much? Are we headed for some tired arms in the Reds bullpen? Joey Votto, Nick Senzel, Wil Myers, and Tony Santillan are all on rehab assignments and due back with the Reds at certain times in the next three weeks. How will the Reds accommodate the moves and add back the players? When will they call up Christian Incarnation-Strand? Ji-Hwan Bae, 2B/OF, PIT (CBS: 43% rostered, ESPN: 7% rostered): Why is Ji-Hwan Bae rostered to such a low level? He's 19-of-24 swiping bases, good for fifth overall as we enter mid-June. It's time to give your Free Agent pool a scan to see if somehow he has been overlooked. He shouldn't be.Will Brennan, OF, CLE (CBS: 9% rostered, ESPN: 3% rostered): In the past seven games, Brennan has gone 11-for-29 with two homers and seven RBI. On most teams, that would be a good week. In Cleveland, it's otherworldly.Kerry Carpenter, OF, DET (CBS: 8% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): The injuries to Riley Greene and now Akil Baddoo have allowed Kerry Carpenter to play full-time. He has gone 10-for-15 in his past four games and should see a steady diet of at-bats until the walking wounded are back walking.Colton Cowser, OF, BAL (CBS: 28% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): If it wasn't for the quad injury, there's a good chance Cowser would already be plying his trade in Baltimore. Now recovered, how long will it take to see him plying his trade in Baltimore? My guess is not very long.Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 3B, CIN (CBS: 45% rostered, ESPN: Everyone else has been called up in Cincinnati. It's only a matter of time before Encarnacion-Strand gets his opportunity. With 17 home runs and a .427 BA in 177 at-bats at Triple-A Louisville, that opportunity will likely come sooner rather than later.Stuart Fairchild, OF, CIN (CBS: 1% rostered, ESPN: not rostered): Jake Fraley once again hits the IL, joining Wil Myers and Nick Senzel. Stuart Fairchild has helped pick up the slack and thus far has done an admirable job, slugging a couple of homers with 19 RBI and seven thefts. The outfield has taken a big hit injury-wise in the past couple of weeks. Fairchild could provide at least a temporary option.Nolan Jones, OF, COL (CBS: 42% rostered, ESPN: 8% rostered): Are we finally seeing a breakout from Nolan Jones? In five games this week, he has gone 6-for-16 with a pair of homers. It's worth a small bid to determine if this hot streak is sustained.Corey Julks, OF, HOU (CBS: 10% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): Long-term, Julks is more than likely a fourth outfielder, but short-term, the stolen base potential is providing sneaky value. He has four thefts this week with more to come, and for a small investment could be accumulating them on your Fantasy squad.Nick Pratto, 1B/OF, KCR (CBS: 29% rostered, ESPN: 4% rostered): Over the past seven games, Pratto has gone 6-for-22 with a homer and 3 RBI, hitting mainly out of the leadoff slot. Playing time should not be an issue with Vinnie Pasquantino on the IL with right shoulder instability.Emmanuel Rivera, 1B/3B, ARZ (CBS: 4% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): It's crowded in Arizona, with Josh Rojas and Emmanuel Rivera in a job share, but Rivera appears to be slowly winning the battle. The power and speed are limited, but there's no doubting Rivera's ability to control the strike zone. In deeper Leagues, that .860 OPS provides value.Tarik Skubal, SP, DET (CBS: 25% rostered, ESPN: 4% rostered): The rehab clock has started, and so far, so good. We're looking at a much-anticipated early July return to the Tigers rotation. Buying in early will save you some of that precious FAAB.A.J. Smith-Shawver, SP, ATL (CBS: 58% rostered, ESPN: 13% rostered): The 20-year-old righthander got that first start under his belt and handled it in fine fashion. He went 5 1/3 innings allowing two unearned runs in a no-decision. That has earned him another start against the Tigers. Go get him and get him active.Mark Vientos, 3B, NYM (CBS: 17% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): Pete Alonso got plunked on the wrist last Wednesday, suffering a bone bruise and sprained left wrist that will leave him sidelined for the next month. There will be opportunities in New York for additional at-bats, and it's worth a small bid to see if Vientos and that power potential gets his share of them.Bryan Woo, SP, SEA (CBS: 13% rostered, ESPN: 1% rostered): The first game was underwhelming, to say the least, but Woo bounced back nicely in his second outing, holding the Angels to two runs over 4 2/3 innings while chipping in with seven strikeouts. He has earned another start. The Closer ReportAdbert Alzolay, RP, DET (CBS: 12% rostered, ESPN: 2% rostered): With two saves in his past five appearances and sporting a 30/4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 30 appearances, Alzolay has moved into the setup role with an eye towards working the ninth regularly.Scott McGough, RP, ARZ (CBS: 8% rostered, ESPN: 2% rostered): McGough got off to a rough start and lost the closer job but has rebounded nicely. He hasn't allowed an earned run since May 12, a span of 10 appearances (14 IP). Over that span, he has amassed 21 strikeouts. In Leagues that count holds, it's time to include him in your future plans.A.J. Minter, RP, ATL (CBS: 24% rostered, ESPN: 12% rostered): The season has been one of very high highs and very low lows, but after both the success and failure, Minter has shown a return to the “good AJ”. He has two saves and a win this week and has solidified his hold on the setup gig. It's time to get him rostered and active, again.Andres Munoz, RP, SEA (CBS: 51% rostered, ESPN: 47% rostered): There was considerable debate as to whether Paul Sewald would own the ninth inning for the M's heading into 2023. A right shoulder strain suffered by Munoz back in early April made that decision a moot point. Well, Munoz has returned from the IL and is already flashing that huge strikeout potential. In a worst-case scenario, you wind up with a high K/9 setup man. At the best, a job share closing and save opportunities. It seems like a win/win to us.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3306394/advertisement

The Cincinnati Reds got a much needed win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday thanks to something the Reds can replicate throughout the season. Timely hitting comes from grinding out at-bats and the Reds have done that in every game this season. The Reds hitting mentality is permeated by guys like Tyler Stephenson, Spencer Steer, TJ Friedl, and Jake Fraley. This Reds team can continue to hit like this and if the bullpen improves, they will take that step forward. Steer is showing why Jeff was so excited for what he saw last September and Nick Senzel returned. Before we get into why, we look at why we are getting ahead of ourselves with Joey Votto as Mo Egger joins Jeff at Fretboard Brewery in Blue Ash, Ohio. We must figure this one thing out about Joey before we worry about if he will continue playing for the Reds or be traded to another team, or when he will retire. The health of Jonathan India and Tyler Stephenson will go a long way toward the Reds being better this year. India realizes his strength is as the lead-off man for this team and the Reds plan to protect Stephenson is sound. Also, two new outfielders for the Reds will bring big dividends in different ways. Will Benson and Wil Myers are just two more reasons to be optimistic about the 2023 Cincinnati Reds.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Cincinnati Reds announced the fourth and fifth starters for the starting rotation to be Luis Cessa and Conner Overton. The reasoning behind the Reds choosing Overton and Cessa is faulty, we'll explain why. This also leaves the Reds bullpen in a lurch, although Hunter Strickland was released (thankfully). How do the Reds plan on filling out the rest of the bullpen? Where do Derek Law and Joel Kuhnel factor in? Will there be another lefty for manager David Bell to use in close games? The Reds are still not sure if Joey Votto will be ready for Opening Day and the future hall of fame had some not-so encouraging comments about how he's feeling about the comeback. If he is out, look for Jason Vosler to make the roster and Wil Myers and Tyler Stephenson to share time at first base. Also, Elly De La Cruz and Christian Incarnation-Strand will begin the year on the injured list. This pushes back their possible debuts for the Reds this season but could mean good things for a couple of players.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeDownload the Gametime app, create an account, and use code LOCKEDONMLB for $20 off your first purchase.Ultimate Pro Baseball GMTo download the game just visit probaseballgm.com or look it up on the app stores. The Cincinnati Reds Opening Day lineup has a chance to be electric with a fast start. David Bell should put Jonathan India, Tyler Stephenson, and Wil Myers as the top-three hitters to get the run scoring going fast. Give Hunter Greene a lead before the second inning and he will cruise. India looks like the leadoff hitter he was for the Reds in his rookie of the year campaign. Stephenson is this team's best hitter and would provide an awesome one-two punch at the top of the Reds order. The middle of the lineup would then build on that momentum. Jake Fraley could rake from the cleanup spot, the Reds could ease Joey Votto into the season at DH and batting fifth, and get Spencer Steer going in the sixth spot. Then Will Benson leads the bottom of the lineup which is a wild card for the Reds.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Cincinnati Reds need Lucas Sims to bounce back and he is working toward that. Lucas joins the podcast today to talk about his return to the mound for the Reds. Sims gives us an inside look at the Reds locker room and what David Bell is doing to get the team ready for a better 2023 season. Lucas also looks at MLB new rules and how he can take advantage of them on the mound. Also, what would Lucas say to Reds skeptics out there? Sims gies us his answer. There were also some encouraging signs from the Reds fourth Cactus League win in a row, this one over the San Diego Padres. The young bats continue to show out as Spencer Steer, Matt McLain, and Christian Encarnacion-Strand all had hits. Jonathan India and Wil Myers also showed why the Reds lineup could be more formidable than people give it credit for.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
MLB has a bunch of new rules and they actually favor the Cincinnati Reds, according to a new stat. The Reds youth and focus on team speed is a huge reason the new rules favor them, according to the MANFRED metric. The metric also shows the Reds are right there with the St Louis Cardinals. Part of that youth will be in the outfield and Will Benson is making people take notice. John Sadak talks about what makes Benson excite him and why he may be a key member of the Reds outfield. Will Nick Senzel break out for the Reds? What can Wil Myers bring to the Reds outfield? Also, what effect do the new rules have on how Sadak and other baseball broadcasters do their job?Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Cincinnati Reds most important position battle in Spring Training is the fourth and fifth spots of the starting rotation. Tuesday's win against the Los Angeles Dodgers underscored how important good pitching is to a team that may or may not have consistent run producers in the lineup. Brandon Williamson and Luke Weaver have begun to set themselves apart from the pack while, for differing reasons, it looks like Conner Overton and Luis Cessa will be in the Reds bullpen. The outfield is also an important position battle, especially if Wil Myers has to play a lot of first base in Joey Votto's absence. Jake Fraley looks like a lock while TJ Friedl is making the case. Will Benson is right there with them, but that means there needs to be some right-handed bats, too. Is Nick Senzel going to be there? Will an unknown in Henry Ramos make the Reds roster? Also, could the Reds possibly take advantage of a trade opportunity?Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
