WE'RE BACK! After a holiday break full of fun, family, and a little sickness (cough cough), the Super Halo Bros. return for their first podcast of 2022! There's plenty of news to talk about, both around the league and with the Los Angeles Angels, and Mike and Jon begin with the news from Jeff Passan about the MLB and the MLBPA returning to negotiations on Thursday. What's in store for the next round of talks between the owners and the players? (6:55) Then, the Bros. discuss well-respected MLB journalist Ken Rosenthal and the decision by MLB higher-ups to not renew his contract on MLB Network. What does this mean for us as fans? (14:17) Jumping over to Angels news, Angels beat writer Sam Blum of The Athletic reported the hiring of a new coaching staff, including Phil Nevin, 2002 World Series Champion and former Halo Benji Gil, Bill Hasselman, and possibly Adam Eaton. How does this shape our Angels in 2022? (24:20) Plus, Jon Heyman reports that Angels front office executive Ray Montgomery is going to slot in as the Angels' bench coach this year, an interesting move that might indicate the future of the team. (30:19) Some exciting news on the player and bullpen front; Ty Buttrey made it known that he intends to return to the Angels this season! How do Mike and Jon feel about this news? (37:26) Finally, we take a look at a "What If...?" scenario involving Kendrys Morales and the implications that followed his disastrous walk-off grand slam in the years to come. (42:09) Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Instagram @superhalobros for the latest fan-guided wisdom and Angels memes! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/super-halo-bros/support

This week, the thing Nick, Jordan, and Bill love about baseball is second half stars! This is a serious one, y'all! We talk a lot about Felipe Vazquez, Domingo German, and Joe Torre sputtering moronic, incoherent banalities about why MLB wouldn't let the Mets honor 9/11 first responders - banalities that turn out, we decide, to be cynical in a deeply depressing way.Eventually we climb our way out of the darkness and have some fun: Amir Garrett sprinting away from Kyle Schwarber - our Beef of the Week - the end of September roster expansion, and Ronald Acuña approaching the 40-40 club - not the Jay-Z one. But we're not going to pretend all this bad stuff didn't happen. So it's a serious show! Our other baseball podcast is The Lead from The Athletic and Wondery! (Because it's a co-production, it's the rare Athletic podcast that is not behind a paywall.) It's a general sports podcast hosted by Anders Kelto and Kavitha A. Andrews offers their thoughts on where MLB should be looking to expand, with Montreal a high priority, and how Rob Manfred and the others should take the opportunity to modernize and unify the game. The second segment is dedicated to the first base conundrum facing the Blue Jays next season. While Rowdy Tellez is making a push for an MLB role next year, Justin Smoak and Kendrys Morales stand in his way. Andrews suggests that one of the veterans could be moved, by not in time for Rowdy to start with the club. They also enlist the help of Jays From the Couch writers Shaun Doyle, Roy Widrig and Jeff Q for their opinions on moving Morales. In the final segment, Andrews floats the possibility of the Blue Jays making a move to acquire the beleaguered Sonny Gray in the off-season. Heading to the homestretch, literally, the Blue Jays are giving the host plenty of things to talk about!Ryan Andrews spends the first segment discussing the performances from the 2-1 Blue Jays loss to the Orioles on Sept. 19. The host gives credit to Marco Estrada for delivering a start that the veteran right-hander needed to restablish some value heading into an off-season where he will be looking for a deal. However, Luis Rivera has earned ire once again for a terrible attempt to convert a Kendrys Morales fourth-inning fly ball into a sac fly. There was no reason for Billy McKinney to run there, and Andrews makes it known how they feel about Rivera's tenure. Then, Andrews discusses Jerry Howarth's assertion that John Schneider would be his pick to manage the Blue Jays in 2019, citing Tampa Bay's Kevin Cash. Andrews agrees with the veteran radio man, particularly Schneider's ability to use the speed on his roster to greater effect than the big-league club. Finally, Andrews previews the series opener against Tampa Bay. The Nova Scotian points out what they think is on the line for Sam Gaviglio and what his role will be for the Blue Jays in 2019. Yes he will have a role. After a medical issue forced the shared observance of an off-day, host Ryan Andrews is back for another week of Blue Jays talk as the season winds towards its conclusion!Andrews leads a dissertation on the lessons learned from the Cleveland series, starting with everyone's favorite son Rowdy Tellez. Andrews examines where Rowdy's performance has put him on the Blue Jays map moving forward and what the club can do with him in 2019 given Justin Smoak and Kendrys Morales occupy his position. In the second segment, Andrews turns to the pitching and the starts that the Blue Jays delivered over the weekend. Marco Estrada was solid, but the Nova Scotian believes the Magician will need to put a couple more good shows together if he wants to reappear on the 2019 roster, then wonders if Thomas Pannone hasn't edged ahead of Sean Reid-Foley in the battle for a 2019 rotation slot. The final third is dedicated to the bullpen and a new strategy that the Blue Jays seem to be adapting from Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro's Cleveland days. With Taylor Guerrieri and David Paulino both working single innings in the series, Andrews wonders if this isn't a tactic to get longer arms in the Toronto bullpen to combat the durability and length issues that the team has seen sink their starters this year.Follow the podcast on Twitter @LockedOnJays and follow the host @NeoAC18!Subscribe on Google Play and iTunes! This episode is sponsored by Locked on Fantasy Football 24.7, ZipRecruiter and Locked on College. Some days there are not many things to talk about in Blue Jays land. This is not one of those days.In a rare weekend appearance due to yesterday's absence, host Ryan Andrews discusses the Josh Donaldson trade and the implication of what it means for all parties involved. Andrews discusses reports that the split of the Bringer of Rain and the Blue Jays was a long time coming, and a report from the Toronto Sun's Rob Longley increases the belief that Donaldson did more than his part to hasten this split. The second segment sees Andrews addressing the Blue Jays front office and the missteps it has made, ranking it alongside the Kendrys Morales contract and the constant masking and deception used to protect their assets. The Nova Scotian also addresses the fan base that is looking to abandon the club, noting that there have been other instances that would have been worth leaving the club for. In addition, Andrews admits Donaldson was going to be as much as part of the future as Curtis Granderson, and briefly discusses his departure as well.In the final segment, Andrews discusses the Granderson trade further and does their best to pronounce Demi Orimoloye's last name. The host also praises Justin Smoak and his pinch-hit grand slam that delivered the lone Blue Jays bright spot on a night where the team really needed it. Aaron Sanchez is let off the hook because of Smoak's heroics, and Sanchez is not mentioned in today's show.Follow the podcast on Twitter @LockedOnJays and follow the host @NeoAC18!Subscribe on Google Play and iTunes! This episode is sponsored by Locked on Fantasy Football 24.7, For HIMS and Locked on College. Sam Gaviglio, Danny Barnes, Thomas Pannone, Joe Biagini, Murphy Smith, no one escapes the Nova Scotia's novocaine-fueled wrath. Andrews has good things to say about the performance of Randal Grichuk and a potential role for him in 2019, as well as Billy McKinney. However, Aledmys Diaz does not earn such high praises. In the final third, Josh Donaldson's rehab stint begins and Andrews is still baffled why the Blue Jays are willing part with the former MVP for nothing, as opposed to even getting the qualifying offer draft pick. So sick with the Blue Jays hot takes that they actually fell ill for a little, Ryan Andrews is back to dish out a lot of high praise!Andrews starts with compliments on Kendrys Morales and his recent homer binge, recalling the dark times in May when it looked like the DH would earn the Jaime Garcia treatment and be sent out of town. Morales' recent run has acted as a rejuvenation for the Blue Jays and Andrews is happy to see someone experience success in the offense. In segment two, Andrews heaps more praise on Billy McKinney for what the prize of the J.A. Happ deal has been able to accomplish with the Blue Jays. The host asserts that McKinney has vaulted past Teoscar Hernandez, and reiterates that Teoscar should join the Bisons for the final week of their season. The third segment sees more praise for Blue Jays reliever Justin Shafer following a three-inning outing on Sunday. Andrews sees the Florida native's ability to use three pitches that start similarly but tail differently as key to his success and the Nova Scotian believes that Shafer has already cemented a roll in the Blue Jays' 2019 bullpen.Follow the podcast on Twitter @LockedOnJays and follow the host @NeoAC18!Subscribe on Google Play and iTunes! This episode is sponsored by Locked on Fantasy Football 24.7 and Locked on College. It's Friday and everyone seems to be in a better mood for a Blue Jays Fan Friday edition of the podcast!Host Ryan Andrews first thanks everyone who submitted songs that subscribe the 2018 Blue Jays and details plans for the tidal wave of responses. Then, Andrews goes into a deep dive about the random appearance of Mike Hauschild and what the former Houston farmhand was able to do against the Mariners. However, as much as the host espouses praise for the pride of Dayton, Ohio, Andrews also discusses a Shi Davidi piece on why his success was necessary to begin with and why the team doesn't turn to arms like Sean Reid-Foley, Thomas Pannone or even Drew Hutchison. In the second half, Andrews shines a spotlight on Teoscar Hernandez and his strong day at the plate. The Nova Scotian hopes it leads to a re-establishing of Teoscar's rhythm at the plate and leads to the outfielder some of the offensive load Kendrys Morales has been carrying. Thanks to @nmonaco1981, @jordanmackinnon, @brightskies99, @juddy_96 and @bigticketshow for their contributions!Follow the host at @NeoAC18 and the podcast @LockedOnJays!Subscribe on iTunes and GooglePlay! Ryan Andrews is not in a good mood and needs help sorting their feelings, so Jays From the Couch writer Roy Widrig is on the program to help! The two discuss last night's abomination of an 11th inning that sealed the Blue Jays' fate in a sweep at the hands of the Twins. Andrews laments the shambles that the bullpen has fallen into and the ninth inning double play that Kendrys Morales had no good choices in avoiding. Widrig points out how bench flexibility could have helped that issue and says that Yangervis Solarte may be expendable now, thanks to Lourdes Gurriel Jr.In the second half, the pair break down the trade of Seunghwan Oh to the Rockies and where Forrest Wall and Chad Spanberger will fit in the Blue Jays system. John Salvagno of SAL Notes offers a quick breakdown of Spanberger and his thumping power bat, and Widrig is intrigued by Wall's speed. Thanks to @SALNotes for the analysis! Follow the host @NeoAC18,, the guest @rolewiii, as well as the podcast at @LockedOnJays!  Learn more about your ad choices.
