Bedard is the second No. 1 pick in Blackhawks history. Chicago took Patrick Kane first in 2007 and he helped form the core of a team that won three Stanley Cup championships. Anaheim selected Sweden forward Leo Carlsson second, followed Columbus picking Michigan freshman Adam Fantilli. The Blackhawks took center Oliver Moore with the 19th pick in a previous trade with Tampa Bay. The Red Wings also had two first round selections. With the 9th pick, Detroit took, center Nate Danielson and with pick 17, Detroit grabbed Swedish defenseman, Axel Sandin Pellikka. The draft continues today with rounds 2 through 7 starting at 11 a.m. NHL – Gary Bettman urges fans to boo him, honors David Poile to kick off NHL draft NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman brought one of the league's most beloved general managers with him to the stage to kick off the draft. That may have helped keep the usual booing of Bettman to a minimum. David Poile is the longest-tenured and winningest general manager in league history. Poile is retiring Friday after overseeing the startup of the Nashville Predators as an expansion franchise in 1997. Bettman then told fans they weren't booing him up to their usual standards. He urged them to do better and made sure to appreciate them as the boos grew louder. NFL – NFL finalizing discipline for several players linked to gambling violations Two people familiar with the plan say the NFL is finalizing disciplinary action against more players for gambling violations, including Indianapolis Colts defensive back Isaiah Rodgers Sr. The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because an official announcement won't be made until later this week. Rodgers is the only identified player of the group, identifying himself in a Twitter post as the Colts player accused of gambling earlier this month. The identities of the other players are not yet known. A year-long suspension would be consistent with similar punishments handed down by the NFL. Golf – Thomas enters Rocket Mortgage Classic, hoping to boost postseason positioning Justin Thomas may have skipped the Rocket Mortgage Classic if this was just another usual year in his career. It hasn't been. The 2022 PGA Championship winner with 15 PGA Tour titles has fallen out of the top 10 in the world ranking for the first time in almost six years. Thomas is No. 66 on the FedEx Cup points list, putting him in jeopardy of failing to finish among the top 70 and earn a spot in the playoffs. He says that was a motivating factor for him to compete at the Detroit Golf Club, where the first round beings Thursday. The Los Angeles Angels lose the weekend series to the Texas Rangers, dropping 2 of 3 after starting with an incredible comeback on Friday night. Before we get into the bad of this weekend, we'll recap the way the Angels came back on Friday to walk it off in the 10th! Clutch moments from Luis Rengifo and Chad Wallach allowed Carlos Estevez to keep it tied in the 10th, and with Anthony Rendon at the plate, Zach Neto scored from third to end it 5-4! Jon will give you all the details in segment 1! Then, Saturday night, the Angels' magic ran out, as they had a disastrous 9th inning that put the game out of reach. Despite Reid Detmers only giving up 3 runs and striking out 7, he did not get any longevity in this game, throwing 94 pitches before he was pulled in the 5th. Nathan Eovaldi on the other hand pitched 8 scoreless innings for the Rangers and induced a lot of weak contact to create outs. Jon will explain the difference in their two starts and how the 9th saw the Halos implode. Plus, Sunday's game felt like the Angels were playing on "Very Difficult" mode, as they ran out Jose Suarez to start, and he was out by the 3rd inning with a shoulder injury. Despite getting to Martin Perez for 7 runs, the Halos saw this one slip away due to bad defense, pitching, and mental mistakes all over the field. Jon will dive into what went wrong and why this game felt like a loss before it even started in segment 3. GET IN OUR VOICEMAIL! CALL US: (714) 409-6396 Tell us what's on your mind! The Cincinnati Reds were dominated for seven innings by the Texas Rangers and Martin Perez, but then the eighth inning happened. Even though it was the Reds eighth-straight game without a home run, it was their second-straight game scoring seven runs and beating the Rangers. Nick Senzel came up huge, Jake Fraley delivered in a clutch moment that was set up by brilliant strategy from David Bell, and the Reds scored six times in the eighth to win. The great night from Senzel has us wondering what value he brings to the Reds at this point in his career? Also, the bullpen once again saved the Reds game. After a confusing start for Luke Weaver (allows six runs, strikes out eight) the bullpen provided three and a third scoreless innings for the Reds and shutdown the Rangers lineup. We kick off Season 7 (!) with a World Baseball Classic wrap-up, an Opening Day kick off, and an intro to our flocks of pitchers. The WBC left many happy results in its wake. Team Australia's Mitch Neunborn was signed by the Phils, Nicaraguan closer Duque Hebbert signed on site by the Tigers, and Team Israel built new ballfields. There were so many more eyeballs on the games, fans in the seats, and merch in the shopping carts than ever before. Closing out our Fantasy Boyfriend Baseball League recruitment, Pottymouth claims the Blue Jays as her pitching flock, with a focus on Alek Manoah. Patti takes the newly shiny Rangers, which allows her to reference rodeos *twice.* And we had to make our tough calls to narrow down this year's boyfriend group to fantasy team rosters. NCiB hero Kim Ng is appointed to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, and 13 women will take the field as uniformed coaches this season. MLB gets a sense of humor and uses noted rule-follower Tim Anderson and others to explain the rule changes for this season. We say “I throw a nice party and I gotta big screen,” “bouncing Czechs,” and “Alek Manoah may have gone shopping but so did the Rangers.” Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. If he is, Evan says, the season has either been an utter success or complete collapse, no in-between. He also wishes Luka Doncic happy birthday and says the best gift he can get is more schooling from Jason Kidd.
