BREAKING: The Penguins have made a minor trade, acquiring Matt Dumba from the Dallas Stars. Will the Pens make a big trade at some point to dump one of their bad contracts? The discussion turned to baseball and we centered it around Andrew McCutchen, who is apparently ‘untouchable' at the trade deadline. Cutch has never played in a championship series. Should the Pirates give him that chance? The feeling is surely mutual, but we thought it was bizarre that McCutchen has never gotten a chance to play for the whole thing. Steve Palazzolo from the 33rd Team joined the show. Steve said the trade that landed them Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith made them better, even if Minkah Fitzpatrick was part of that cost. Steve is confident that Ramsey is still a good football player and has better positional value than Fitzpatrick. Steve would still play Ramsey at outside corner, but he has the ability to move around with Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay also on the defense. Steve brought up how Ramsey played safety, nickel corner and outside corner during his time at Florida State. Steve explained how Smith can work best in the Steelers offense. How many teams would be in the running for TJ Watt if he really is made available? Steve still thinks Myles Garrett is a better player than Watt and he came with an explanation. After Los Angeles Dodgers' SP Clayton Kershaw was given a spot in the All-Star Game by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson discuss whether or not Andrew McCutchen should be given similar treatment.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news and breaks down a number of recent Steelers trending topics, including Terry Bradshaw's controversial comments about Chuck Noll. Is prime Aaron Rodgers better than prime Patrick Mahomes? Paul reacts to Big Ben's recent comments and discusses why the Steelers' former Super Bowl-winning QB would come out and say that on his podcast. Also, was Bill Cowher correct in saying that Rodgers needs "the keys" to Pittsburgh's offense in order to be successful this season? And are the T.J. Watt trade rumors viable, or will Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin and company finally get a record-setting deal done before training camp? Lastly, Paul weighs in on the Pirates' recent slump back to reality and why owner Bob Nutting and general manager Ben Cherington still need to clean house for everyone not named Paul Skenes and Andrew McCutchen. Rob Manfred is allowed to make one selection to the All-Star Game, but has a special exception to allow more if he wants. Manfred selected Clayton Kershaw, but Jason wanted Manfred to pick Andrew McCutchen as well as a special exception. We want to see McCutchen in one more All-Star Game before he retires. Is this it for Cutch? Should the NFL eliminate everything with the Pro Bowl?
Hour 3 with Jason Mackey: Rob Manfred is allowed to make one selection to the All-Star Game, but has a special exception to allow more. Manfred selected Clayton Kershaw, but Jason wanted Manfred to pick Andrew McCutchen as well as a special exception. Jason wonders if it's worth it to pay an edge rusher $40 million. We would rather pay T.J. Watt around $38 million and figure out the guaranteed money to be more than Myles Garrett.
Ryan and Dustin are back with Kevin Wilson to talk all things MLB. They dive into Clayton Kershaw's 3,000 strikeout milestone and debate his place in history. The New York teams' struggles take center stage as the guys break down what's gone wrong for the Yankees and Mets. Plus, they explore the curious case of Andrew McCutchen's Anthrocon connection and share their favorite number 49s in baseball lore. Shane Gillis will host the ESPYS this summer. Which Pittsburgh athlete would you want to see host? We want to see Andrew McCutchen call games but Jason said McCutchen said he doesn't want to. Ben Roethlisberger would be great. Our top 5 athletes of the past 25 years.
The Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Jason Mackey size up the NFL free agent wide receiver market now that Aaron Rodgers is officially in the fold for the Steelers as QB. Should GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin be targeting Amari Cooper as one of the biggest names remaining? Allen Lazard as one of Rodgers' personal favorites? Or could they still convince Keenan Allen to come to Pittsburgh to play alongside names like DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods? Our duo tackles those topics, as well as Jason's column on why Rodgers is the most important person in Pittsburgh sports right now. Then the guys pivot to hockey ahead of the NHL draft later this week. Should GM Kyle Dubas look to trade up? Or hold onto both of his first-round picks? Could he move draft capital to add firepower around Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? Move out bad contracts to guys Erk Karlsson, Ryan Graves and Tristan Jarry? Or could names like Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust be on the trade block? Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason analyze recent hot streaks for players including Spencer Horwitz and Nick Gonzales. Are they sustainable in the long run or just the latest flashes in the plan? Could those two guys preserve GM Ben Cherington's job by playing well? What should manager Don Kelly do with the struggling Oneil Cruz? Why is Bubba Chandler having trouble in the minors? And should Andrew McCutchen have a roster spot with this team next year if he continues to perform?
Joe included Sidney Crosby, Ben Roethlisberger, Evgeni Malkin, Andrew McCutchen, Troy Polamalu. McCutchen is one of only three players in Pittsburgh this century to win an MVP. Malkin won Rookie of the Year, MVP, two scoring titles, playoff MVP, and three Stanley Cups. Mario Lemieux is the only other Pittsburgh sports athlete to win Rookie of the Year, MVP, and playoff MVP.
Hour 2 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: James Palmer is hearing there is a chance T.J. Watt gets over $40 million from the Steelers. Paying Watt over $40 million is extravagant. Do the Steelers need to sign Watt before Parsons? Jay Glazer thinks Tomlin-Rodgers is a 'perfect match.' Joe included Sidney Crosby, Ben Roethlisberger, Evgeni Malkin, Andrew McCutchen, Troy Polamalu
Should T.J. Watt be in our top five Pittsburgh athletes of the past 25 years? Watt should be a 3x Defensive Player of the Year. We would have to bump Andrew McCutchen, Evgeni Malkin, or Troy Polamalu. Jeff Patton of Baseball Card Castle joined the show with a Nick Gonzales signed card for Starkey's Card of the Week.
David Samson got roasted by Andrew McCutchen, and JuJu Gotti is here to share his thoughts on the Kevin Durant trade to the Houston Rockets. In his first show back after a personal hiatus, Mike Asti drops the mic on several of the most talked about Pittsburgh sports topics today. First, Asti explains why he can be classified as an Aaron Rodgers believer but it his Steelers tenure does have a ceiling. Next, he touches on why the new head coach of the Penguins is only a bridge guy and won't around whenever the franchise wins again. And to close the show, Asti goes over why Andrew McCutchen has no shot at making the Baseball Hall of Fame and the debate is insulting to players with better resumes who aren't getting in either. Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Colin Beazley discuss the Pirates' three-game series against the Padres, in which they won one of three but could have realistically won either of the games they lost. Hiles and Beazley start by discussing the overall series and how the team is feeling after blowing a late lead Sunday, then talk about the starting pitching, headlined by a fantastic month of May for Bailey Falter. Beazley compares the series to one earlier in May, in which the Padres swept the Pirates handily. The two conclude with a look at Andrew McCutchen, who had a strong series and tied Roberto Clemente with his 240th Pirates home run.

The Pirates delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, shutting out the Padres 5-0 in San Diego.
