Lotte starter Dallas Keuchel is the guest, we look at the playoff races, go Rockin with Roki, talk a little Shohei Ohtani (with a special appearance by Bobby Valentine), discuss Dragons skipper Kazuyoshi Tatsunami going up in smoke & handle some HighHeat.
The Brewers came out of the all-star break with two tense wins over the Minnesota Twins, and 20-year-old Jackson Chourio is still on fire. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look at a busy week, including the draft, the all-star game and two games with several highlights. As the trade deadline approaches, doesn't this team have to address its pitching, and who are the odd guys out when that happens (or if the team gets healthy). They look at the MLB draft and Milwaukee's surprise first-round selection of Braylon Payne, plus make some second-half predictions. In Three Up Three Down, there are some roster moves to discuss (Dallas Keuchel out, a minor trade taking up a 40-man spot, Brewer Hicklen to the 40-man roster), and Remembrew When looks at another time the U.S. presidency collided with the Brewers in light of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Curt Blanche goes deep into the minors to discuss some future gems. Then, JR sits down with new Brewers starter Aaron Civale (1:12:00), acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays and already with three starts under his belt. He talks about kinda-sorta sneaking in to see the 2013 Red Sox win the World Series, why his corgi is named Stetson West, where he was during the brawl between the Rays and Brewers earlier this year and getting traded midseason in back-to-back years.
The Brewers dropped four of six at home against the Pirates and Nationals heading into the All-Star break. They are 5-8 in July. Dallas Keuchel was designated for assignment. We touched on all the fun of the All-Star break including Cooper Pratt in the Futures Game, the Brewers completing the Burnes trade during the draft, the Home Run Derby, and Yeli and Conteras in the big game! The Brewers will take a 4 1/2 game lead into the all-star break, which isn't bad considering the team limped through the past two weeks, including a clunky 2-4 homestand against the Pirates and Nationals. Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak joins host JR Radcliffe to assess the Brewers at the midway point, including the team's biggest surprises and disappointments. Does this team really have a big postseason run in its holster? What changes should be expected in the rotation, especially now that Dallas Keuchel has been dropped for the roster, and the bullpen, with so many players due back from injury soon? The Brewers made their first four draft picks Sunday, and Three Up Three Down looks back at big performances from Paul Skenes, Jesse Winker and Tobias Myers. Remembrew When revisits a haunting finish to the first half in a previous season, and Todd's Take of the Week looks at the break (or lack thereof) ahead. Then, JR sits down with Rhys Hoskins, the slugging first baseman who's up to 14 homers on the season, tied for the team lead. They talk card games, going undercover, the Home Run Derby, rehab and the possibility of facing the Phillies in the postseason. Musical cues (in order of use): "Strobes" by Epocha, "Ricketts Glenn" by Roy Williams and "Rock is Back" by Got Happy. Royalty-free music available at EpidemicSound.com.
Leo and Balky talk to WHBY and WSCO high school sports play-by-play broadcaster Tony Giordana about what grade he would give the Milwaukee Brewers in the first half of the 2024 MLB season, Dallas Keuchel being designated for assignment and more. Plus, they break down the four players the Crew drafted on Day 1 of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers MLB Pick Prediction 7/13/2024 by Tony T. Nationals at Brewers—Mitchell Parker will start for Washington. Parker in 16 starts in 2024 has an ERA of 3.44 with WHIP of 1.09. The rookie lefthander fans 19.9% with 5.1% walks. Ground balls sit at 40.6% with 1.18 home runs per nine innings. Dallas Keuchel to start for Milwaukee. Keuchel has three starts with an ERA of 4.61 with WHIP of 1.68. The lefty is striking out 14.3% with 12.7% walks. Ground balls dealt at 44.4% with 1.98 home runs per nine innings. A FIP of 6.46 does suggest a rise in ERA based on his form.
We're officially past the halfway point of the 2024 regular season! Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look back at a shaky west-coast trip to Colorado and Los Angeles, which nonetheless ended with a salvageable 3-4 record. But how was Brice Turang not elected to the National League all-star team? The guys have thoughts on player balloting and the recent hiccups by a tired bullpen, plus the full-fledged resurgence of all-star starter Christian Yelich and the work by new pitchers Aaron Civale and Dallas Keuchel. In Three Up, Three Down, it's yet ANOTHER grand slam, a controversial bunt play, a 55-pitch inning and Bryan Hudson's recent struggles. Remembrew When looks back at another unflattering chapter Brewers-Dodgers history, and Curt's Take of the Week is back talking about a Dodger Stadium staple. Then, JR sits down with relief pitcher Trevor Megill, enjoying a breakout season at the back end of the Brewers rotation. They discuss the role water polo and rowing played in his life story, his scary injuries this year and how he arrived at a comfortable place in his career. Musical cues (in order of use): "Strobes" by Epocha, "Ricketts Glenn" by Roy Williams and "Rock is Back" by Got Happy. Royalty-free music available at EpidemicSound.com.
S5, E19: The Brewers got two All-Stars, but four candidates were left off the roster. What's up with that? Can the Brewers count on Aaron Civale and Dallas Keuchel for the rest of the season or are they merely band-aids to patch a much bigger problem? And lastly, how should the Brewers divide playing time with Garrett Mitchell's return? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thebarrelbanter/support
After dropping the first two in the series, the Brewers avoided the sweep by beating the Dodgers 9-2. Dallas Keuchel worked around five walks over four and one third scoreless innings and and the bullpen allowed just a two run home run in the sixth inning. The Brewers were powered by three home runs in their 9-2 win. Dominic Cotroneo broke down the win in Brewers Extra Innings.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Betting Pick Prediction 7/6/2024 by Tony T. Brewers at Dodgers—Dallas Keuchel is the starter for Milwaukee. Since 2021 in MLB the lefthander has an ERA of 6.31 with WHIP of 1.67 striking out 174 batters in 269 2/3rd innings of work. Justin Wrobleski is the starter for Los Angeles. He started 2024 in Triple A with 13 starts and an ERA of 3.93 with WHIP of 1.21 striking out 45 batters in 71 innings. The lefthander has been ineffective in the Majors the past three seasons. An unprecedented grand-slam binge has the Brewers playing an exciting brand of baseball. Host JR Radcliffe and Journal Sentinel Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak look back at the successful run, including more great stuff from Jackson Chourio, a truly elite first half of the season from Brice Turang, the long-awaited return of Garrett Mitchell, the surprising arrival of Dallas Keuchel and an injury to Jared Koenig. Three Up Three Down looks at some sobering moments from the week, including the loss of former public address announcer Robb Edwards and a terrifying escalator malfunction at American Family Field. Could the Brewers have two all-star starters for the first time in a decade? Remembrew When goes back in time to 1980, when an inside-the-park home run and grand slam happened at the same time. Then, JR sits down with Tyler Black, a rookie infielder with a bright future. Though he was optioned back to Class AAA Nashville at the end of the week, Black has been with the Brewers for multiple stints this year, and he discussed giving up hockey, Canadian baseball, his first memories of Milwaukee playing for Wright State at Hank Aaron Field, the automatic strike zone and his defense. How big is the concern for Bryan Woo right now? We're happy it's not an arm injury and we'll hopefully learn more later. Mariners were disappointing last night and the Astros gained some ground. Ian shares his dentist experience this morning. JJ Reddick had some bleepable things to say in his press conference as the new head coach of the Lakers and Ian finds it extremely unlikeable. We've got some Mariners news, as the team just traded Dallas Keuchel to the Brewers for cash. We ponder why. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins Ian for his weekly visit to break down the AL West and just how worried we might have to be about where the Mariners stand right now, especially with the Astros gaining steam. He gives us his take on the Dallas Keuchel trade as well. Joe also provides some analysis on the Mariners pitching staff, in addition to the offense. We have breaking news as Anne McCoy is officially named the new Athletic Director at Washington State. Ian thinks this is a great idea.
