TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ DJ SURGELES Kole Leijen is a true musician with a lot of energy. He started digging into his parent's records collection at the age of five and at the young age of eight his sister introduced him to house music. Soon after that, young Surgeles got his first set of turntables as a present for his birthday and started visiting regularly his local record dealer. While after a couple of years he started producing his own dark, deep and swerving techno. In 2005, while attending a Jeff Mills's show, Surgeles managed to give a demo CD to The Wizard. The very next day Surgeles received a personal mail from Jeff Mills claiming that his music sounded great and that it inspired him to let Surgeles make a mix for his Purpose Maker Label. Two weeks later Surgeles' mix was on Jeffs Mills' Axis Records' website for the 10th anniversary of the all-time Techno anthem "The Bells". In 2017 Jeff entrusted DJ Surgeles to take care of “the Betty Hill Case”, a 12” inspired by the story and the interviews of an American couple, who were allegedly abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of New Hampshire in 1961. 2019 starts very well with a exclusive contract on Axs records and been working with Jeff Mlls on his STR MRKD sub-label since. The constant advance in experimentation and music production influenced by early dub, electro, 90s and 00s Tribal Techno has led him to develop a particular vision with a futuristic perspective on electronic music, his productions explore exclusively Ambient, Deep and Techno. We stop off in Cork for this weeks Local Selection, as we hand the controls over to 1/3 of the Elision collective, Dave O'Neill, as he provides us with an hour of Wednesday afternoon power. There's nothing we love more than hearing from DJs around the country, which is what the Local Selection series aims to do. The Elison collective have been on our radar for quite a while as both promoters and consistently solid DJs, so this mix from resident Dave O'Neil is a great addition to our evergrowing series. Dave is a Resident DJ of the Cork based collective Elision alongside Jack Devine and Fionn O Regan where they hold a residency in Dali. Kole Leijen (1983) is started playing and making Techno music since 1998. Getting support from the biggest artists like Jeff Mills,Dave Clarke,DVS1,Oscar Mulero,Chris Liebing and many others, he is a well known character in the scene. Also Kole is owner of U.F.F Records, which has now 14 releases, with artist like, Jay Denham, Elektrabel, Oliver Kucera, Eric Fetcher and Mike Storm on it. Played at hundreds of parties in his career, he knows how to get the visitor at higher spheres with his hypnotic DJ-sets. As highlights he played also at Awakenings and Tresor Berlin. In 2012 he also appears on Axis Records with the Something In The Sky Mix . In 2007 he started with Jan Boekel, his own party-organisation, called ‘Civilized?’. They found a club called Escape in Amsterdam, where they gave the parties. With artists like Elektrabel, Regis, Anton Pieëte, Bas Mooy, and Rumenige & Loktibrada. DJ Surgeles played also with artists like Dimitri (nl) b2b, Echoplex, and Steve Rachmad. DJ Surgeles won the ADE 2005 Competition for best track with Dave Clarke.
