HAVEN are back with their vinyl operation with a fresh plate of grubby Techno heat from Irish heavyweights Faetch & Sunil Sharpe on the Grotteca EP. Featuring 4 original rippers and a remix from Italian legend DJ Plant Texture of upfront club pressure, the NZ-based label are proud to transmit some of the finest in creeping electronics from across the globe. The A-side kicks off with ‘Bleed In' with its tough drum-work and hypnotising atmospheres eventually descending in to an all-out stomp with one of the filthiest synth-lines in the label's history hitting half-way through. This is followed up with ‘Test Breaks' - a broken-beat slammer with a ton of gritty synth design and rear-shaking rhythms. The first side is closed with DJ Plant Texture's remix of ‘Bleed In', where driving 909 hits combine with the original synth line for a club-ready weapon ready to get those feet moving. On the B-side ‘Vapornation' keeps the energy rolling with its rolling congas, heavy kick, and eerie atmospheres tailor-made for a concrete basement. Finally, ‘Shinplant' closes the record with full-steam-ahead drums and squalid synth rhythms to end yet another plate of dance-floor ammunition from the HAVEN camp. credits releases February 6, 2026 All tracks produced + mixed by Faetch & Sunil Sharpe Remix by DJ Plant Texture Mastering by Conor Dalton @ Glowcast Vinyl cut by Simon @ The Exchange Artwork by Marie Celeste Lawrence
Introducing the first Local Selection of 2026, and the 290th edition of the series is Belfast-based DJ Keeva G, who has kindly contributed an hour of power which showcases her affinity for the harsher, mind-boggling edges of techno. A statement mix right from the off. No playing around here. Keeva G has steadily carved her place within the Irish techno scene over the last few years as a compelling, sought-after DJ. Recognised for her diverse sets that incorporate hypnotic soundscapes with raw, driving techno. Her love for the genre's foundations is unmistakable, with selections often nodding to old-school selections, drawing inspiration from the gritty, machine-driven sounds that defined techno's deep history. With a background shaped by years immersed in the dance music scenes of Amsterdam, London, and New York, Keeva has harnessed this time spent across a wide range of dancefloors and channelled her specific sound that is a staple in her sets, which is both dynamic and uncompromising. Fusing hypnotic textures with a relentless sense of movement, her sets balance the raw energy of classic techno with a modern, groove-focused flavour that typically draws influences from Bas Mooy, ø [Phase], and Sunil Sharpe. Having built a strong repertoire in a relatively short span of time, Keeva G has earned herself notable slots at Fuinneamh, Emerge, and If You Know You Know Festival. Not to mention Club M01 in Berlin with Nexus, as well as Belfast's iconic Telegraph Building, Banana Block, The Ulster Sports Club and Pawn Shop in Dublin. This recording applies tension right from the off, and continues to nudge at the ever-expanding intensity as the recording progresses. All while tapping into and embracing a selection of eerily hypnotic and ethereal selections, while keeping that consistent hard-edge at the mixes core throughout. GETSPART, formerly known as Adam Talbot, is a Dublin-based DJ and producer championing the nu-school house and garage movement in the Irish capital. His sound draws from the deep, punchy, and swung textures that live in the space between house and garage, music designed for the dancefloor, but resonating on a deeper, emotional level. A graduate of the renowned DJ and dance music powerhouse Bray Institute of Further Education (BIFE), GETSPART immersed himself fully in both the DJ Techniques and Music Production programs. Under the mentorship of acclaimed artists Sunil Sharpe and Doug Cooney, he honed his craft, delving into the subtleties, nuances, and mechanics that define high-calibre electronic music. As a producer, GETSPART has already made his mark with a release on Foundations Records, and he has two more forthcoming projects lined up with Talkbox and 9 Lives. His productions reflect a distinctive voice, a blend of rhythmic depth, groove, and character, inspired by legends such as Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry, Burnski, DART, Spray, and Jeremy Sylvester. His Local Selection mix embodies these influences, serving up steppy, rolling percussion layered with glossy, chord-driven lushness. It's a masterful balance between light and dark. Unafraid to explore the gnarly, murky ends of the house and garage canon, yet equally at home in the jazzy, floating sensibilities of classic Chicago house. GETSPART moves effortlessly between these worlds, keeping his sound balanced on a knife's edge, refined yet raw. Sunil Sharpe, spokesperson for Give Us The Night, discusses his group's report on the Irish nightclub sector.
The avant-electronic and experimental Irish music festival Open Ear returns to Sherkin Island on the June Bank Holiday weekend. Open Ear is known for its preoccupation with illuminating music operating on the fringes, and the remote island setting of Sherkin Island off the coast of Baltimore in West Cork reflects this outsider ethos. The varied programme is drawn from electronic, techno, experimental folk and trad, jazz EBM, bass music and art rock, and this year features the likes of Irish techno legend Sunil Sharpe, Scottish piper Brìghde Chaimbeul, Cork sean nos rockers I Dreamed I Dream, Belfast Sound Advice record shop owner Marion Hawkes, Limerick rap and production duo Citrus Fresh and 40Hurtz, Catalan/Italian EBM duo Dame Area, Autechre collaborator Rob Hall, and lots more. The programme features one artist at a time across various stages on Sherkin including the infamous Banger Cliff. I spoke to Open Ear head of programming Dion Doherty aka Belacqua about the challenges and uniqueness of putting on an experimentally-minded festival on an island and as it approaches its 10th year, how its planning to grow its European partnerships and unearths Irish music of the underground. * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Listen on Apple | Android | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link
For some time now, Irish DJ and producer Sunil Sharpe has been honing (no pun intended) his skills as a formidable floor destroyer, putting out a string of memorable burners for the likes of Works The Long Nights, BPitch, MORD or his own imprint, Earwiggle. Delivering his implacable two-hour missive through blends of breaks-laden rhythms, frenzied machine talk and murky, weatherbeaten ambiences, Sunil Sharpe boggles the mind and knocks senses askew, not letting loose on his astonished prey - understand the odd raver bracing themselves for the blast incoming. Unless they've already bashed their skull in the system's facade and got to taste the visceral high of sound flowing through their body. You think it's an image, but the man is a literalist.
Faoi Thalamh Records are set to release the next instalment in its various artists series. This third iteration aims to serve as a snapshot of Irish underground electronic music, with some of the most exciting artists currently operating in Éire and beyond. Today we premiere MEJMI's track from the VA entitled, “Tike Myson”. “Tike Myson” is a powerful exploration of identity and emotion, drawing inspiration from Sunil Sharpe's "Etaci." This track features a hard-hitting kick that drives the energy forward, complemented by a rumbling bassline that creates an uplifting "Irish drive," reminiscent of traditional Irish music. From the outset, a high-pitched tense drone establishes a sense of anticipation, which finds release in a beautiful choir during the breakdown—a signature element of my production style. TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ DAHRAXT DAHRAXT is the techno project of the electronic music artist Alessandro Mannella ( formerly known as Mannella ). Italian-born and Berlin-adopted, he expresses his multi-faceted talent producing music, DJing and performing live. Apart from being heavily influenced by the UK techno sound, DAHRAXT's musical narratives oscillate between industrial techno and distorted electro soundscapes, all the way to the more mental techno textures. Moving at a young age to Ibiza, he crafted his DJ mixing skills performing regularly at important venues like Space and throwing illegal parties around the island. Not long after, he moved to Berlin and immediately caught the attention of many, playing at the iconic Tresor basement and shaking the dancefloors of other major clubs such as About Blank, Arena and Suicide Circus, as well as hosting events at the former Griessmühle. Eventually, as one of the founders of the multidisciplinary event project ENIGMA, he brought a brand-new event concept at Tresor Club. Besides Germany, DAHRAXT has made appearances at other influential venues across Europe such as Gare (Porto) and FOLD (London) among others. Touring overseas and taking part in the underground festival circuit, DAHRAXT has performed with the likes of Ancient Methods, Ben Klock, Detroit Techno Militia, Nene H, New Frames, Tommy Four Seven, Scan7, Sunil Sharpe and many more. His unmatched dexterity in bringing the crowd into his own visionary trip and the intensity of his DJ sets allowed him to also gain a residency at the techno party Vocoder in Mexico City (2018) and most recently at ARIA, London. As a long-time vinyl collector and supporter, in 2015 DAHRAXT founded two record labels: “Jtseries”, (a techno dancefloor-oriented imprint) and “PicNic34” (having a more experimental direction). On those, he has collaborated with Blawan, Cristian Vogel, Charlton, Kucera, Santiago Salazar, Tobias, Vladislav Delay and VSK to name a few. With an arsenal of music ready to hit some of the most important music platforms out there, DAHRAXT's ever mind-expanding DJ and studio experiments are bound to be experienced by many. *The Mix was live recorded at Tresor Berlin* Follow DAHRAXT here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mannella.dahraxt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dahraxt/ Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/dahraxt
The 250th edition of the Four Four Magazine Local Selection is here, and we are ecstatic to showcase the Drogheda-based DJ and producer Hunteryx as the latest entry to the series. Find yourself encapsulated by his distinct style which stems from the house and techno era of the 90s and 00s. Having burst onto Ireland's techno scene over the past 12 months, Hunteryx has impressed a range of dancers, DJs and producers alike with his fast-paced, nostalgia-driven discography taking inspiration from the golden age of dance music. Gathering support from the likes of Yasmin Gardezi, Skin On Skin and Shampain during this short span of time. Constantly improving in every way, Hunteryx found himself making his festival debut this summer at Otherside's One In The Woods with Research and Slither while earning lucrative support slots for Sunil Sharpe, Fjaak and DJ Plant Texture too. This recording is a fine display of where Hunteryx finds himself stylistically at the moment. Quick, snappy mixing as he bounces between tracks with groove at its core. Elements of funk can also be heard throughout, fused with bumping basslines and vivacious vocals. If you are looking for a feel-good, funky midweek soundtrack, then look no further. Today's premiere is a free download from Dublin-native Aero as he shares a bumping production titled ‘I Know You Got Hardcore'. This funk-driven techno track combines meddling low-end and catchy vocals, resulting in a ferociously energising listen. To put things lightly, Aero has grown into one of Ireland's most prolific Irish artists in recent times, the youngster has carved out a career that is wrapped around the foundations of purist techno. His punishing style of techno has been haunting Irish dancefloors for over half a decade, as Aero's deep knowledge of techno sees him weave through hard-edged and groove-laden techno cuts from various time periods. Aero has played alongside some of techno's most formidable artists such as Stef Mendesidis & Dax J through to SHDW & Obscure Shape & Sunil Sharpe, to name a few. He has built a strong repertoire as one of the most trusted warm-up DJs in Ireland but is also equally versed in pulverising a dancefloor at peak time. Outside of the club, Aero's productions have been seeing heavy support from arguably some of the most influential DJs of our time from Freddy K, Amelie Lens, Slam, Richie Hawtin, Marcel Fengler & many more. With some more 12 inches forthcoming and a mountain of unreleased music 2024 is expected to be a colossal year for Aero. Aero now presents his first release of 2024 with ‘I Know You Got Hardcore', a snappy DJ tool that has been doing the rounds for the past 6-months. The highly anticipated track sees Aero gravitate towards the simple yet nuanced approach to making stripped-back, yet funk-fuelled techno. Sampling Eric B & Rakim, Aero flips the original hip-hop track into a catchy 140bpm groove that is made for DJs. We've already shared the first part of an exploration into Ireland's Night Time Economy, where DJ and Give Us The Night campaigner, Sunil Sharpe gave us a comprehensive overview of the topic. In this episode, the concluding part, Zara Hedderman interviews Mark Davies and Deputy James Lawless.Something discussed in Part One was the importance of a Night Time Economy Advisor - also known as Night Mayers in other parts of the world. As of this year, this role is being piloted in 9 cities across Ireland: in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Sligo, Buncrana, Galway, Kilkenny, Longford and Drogheda, where Mark Davies is presently working as its first ever Night Time Economy Advisor. Mark spoke to Zara about his previous experiences working with Cardiff County Council and as a DIY musician and describes how they help him effectively navigate his current position. He also explains exactly what's involved in the role of Night Time Economy Advisor - from organising community workshops, finding ways to enrich and elevate independent musicians and venues and much more. Zara also speaks to Deputy James Lawless of Fianna Fail. Deputy Lawless was appointed Chair of the Committee on Justice back in 2020, and a crucial component to reforming Ireland's licensing laws centres on the Sale of Alcohol Bill. In November of 2023, The Joint Committee on Justice published their report on Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Sale of Alcohol Bill, 2022. Deputy Lawless speaks about what's involved with this bill and how it will impact Ireland's Night Time Economy, as well as giving some indications into when we can anticipate this bill to complete its legislative journey and herald a new era of what we hope will be an even more vibrant and inviting foundation to a modernised night time culture in Ireland. Thanks for listening, I hope you've enjoyed these episodes and we'll be back again soon.
Today, we bring you the first of a two-part exploration into Ireland's Night Time Economy; where we'll look at what it is, who it affects, where we've been going wrong, and its current status as we approach 2024.From this two part focus, presented by Zara Hedderman, you'll see just how broad this topic is and how it extends way beyond headlines about nightclubs staying open until 6am. There's so much more involved in the process of positively reframing Ireland's Nightlife - from community-focused initiatives, creating employment, utilising cultural spaces to their fullest potential, the expansion of transport systems and developing policies which endeavour to keep venues alive and thriving instead of having to close their doors, as we've seen all too frequently in recent years. In many ways, this isn't just about strengthening the economy in this realm (although that is a significant element), this is also about reinstating a strong sense of community underpinned by culture.Part One features a conversation between Zara and Sunil Sharpe. A globally renowned DJ and Producer, Sharpe has performed in a number of cities around the world and experienced first-hand how proper infrastructures regarding nightlife culture can enhance the overall experience. He's also the figurehead of the Give Us The Night Campaign - an independent volunteer-led organisation who have worked tirelessly to promote the importance of modernising Ireland's archaic legislation, with some bills dating back to 1935. Sunil is extremely passionate about this topic, and in this conversation he gives us thorough insights into the “why” and “how” Give Us The Night have been campaigning for change with the aim of vastly improving Ireland's Nightlife economically, socially and culturally. If, after listening to this episode you're looking for more information on how you can help or get involved, you can visit GiveUsTheNight.com and you can also find them on social media. We'll be sharing Part 2 with you soon, but until then, here's Sunil Sharpe in conversation with The IMRO Podcast.

Oliver Rosemann is a DJ and producer from Leipzig, who has been active since the 90's. During this time, he has made his experience with timeless techno exactly in the time of its creation, which can be seen later in his productions and DJ Sets. In the Leipzig scene he played numerous live sets in the early 2000s, including at the 1040, one of the legendary clubs of the time. Increasingly, he began to show himself in public not only as a pure live act but also as a track producer. He oriented himself out of the local scene and tried to place his music directly internationally. With the collaboration with MasCon called "dualit" he had first big releases on labels like Earwiggle, CLR or Fith Wall Records and also international gigs e.g. in Antwerp. But after that his solo project should be in the foreground again. Oliver got his own EP on Sunil Sharpe's label Earwiggle. The "Pointing from the Moon EP" was released, which was the starting signal for numerous following releases. To date, there are close to 180 tracks and remixes, including 3 LPs, released on labels such as MindTrip, MORD Records, Warm Up Recordings, Pole Group, Stockholm LTD and many more. Another promising collaboration was to follow. Pfirter and Oliver started producing together in 2019 and presented their first joint 4 tracker “Alpha EP” in 2020 on MindTrip Music and it was a huge success. To date, the collaboration of the two includes several releases and B2B DJ Sets and there will be a few more. Oliver is also present on stage. Whether as a live act or as a DJ, he knows how to create a dark, driving, ecstatic atmosphere on dance floors. He has already proven this in clubs like Tresor Berlin, Distillery, Institut für Zukunft, About Blanc and also in other countries in Europe. Numerous podcasts recorded by him or live cuts from parties, which were released over the years by renowned crews such as "Reclaim Your City" or "Staub", show this. In 2021 he founded his own record label "Recorded Things", which he now runs together with Sebastian Rothermel. Also, here, his sound, which he produces or DJs, is formative and reflects what kind of techno he stands for. The latest release here is a new collaboration between Oliver and Alexander Kowalski! S-Agenda is a 22-year-old DJ whose versatile style and open-minded selections have seen her grow from strength to strength in the past year. Her mixes draw from a range of sonic influences including techno, trance, electro, rave, and house primarily. Having played piano and violin from a young age, she is extremely passionate about music and aims to carry that through to her sound by infusing uplifting, exciting and unexpected blends into her sets. While DJing since 2019, the young artist solidified herself within the Dublin scene after winning the Skin & Blister x Forbidden Fruit Emerging Artist Call Out last summer. That makes him a great guest for the show and we dig into some of the machinations of policy-making, as well as the more directly music-related issues of DJing with vinyl, crowd behaviour, the changing nature of how electronic is viewed, and much else besides. The NTA has ruled out a 24-hour Luas. We discuss what that means for plans to reform the night-time economy with Sunil Sharpe, Founder of Give Us The Night campaign and member of night-time economy taskforce and Dave Brown, musician and founder of Picture House.
This week's Local Selection is from Dublin native and rising DJ and producer Aoise, as we invite her to soundtrack your Wednesday afternoon. The young DJ and producer is a graduate of the Sunil Sharpe, Doug Cooney and DeFeKT school of excellence, having studied DJ techniques and music production at BIFE. There have been many high hitters to come from this course and after hearing Aoise's take on tunes we look forward to what's in store for her. Her sound stems from dark, dubby techno that has developed and matured through the years, taking inspiration from the likes of Ø [Phase], Sterac, Oscar Mulero and Sleeparchive. Having shared lineups with some of Europe's heavy hitters Christoph Faust (FKA Inhalt Der Nacht), Sunil Sharpe, Tommy Holohan and Shampain, we expect to see much more of her in the future. You can catch Aoise supporting Clouds this Friday in Dublin, plus at the Life Festival launch party on April 29th in Mullingar. We premiere a track from techno legend today, Paul Birken. Birken has put together an analogue techno bomb for Gombocs first release on wax. Paul Birken has been putting out wonky techno classic's for the best part of 25 years. Release's such as ‘Speaker Freakin” & ‘Surfin' Superior' helped launch his 12 inches into the hands of some of techno's most coveted and technical DJ's. Paul still receives heavy support from the likes of Sunil Sharpe, Jerome Hill & Bas Mooy. More recent releases on ‘Mord', ‘Earwiggle' & ‘Don't' have helped solidify Birken's name to a newer generation. Birken still holds down his classic style of hectic, machine driven style of bleep techno. This release marks the first release on 12 inch, for Argentinian label, Gomboc. The label have been throwing out, high octane techno since 2017 and have been home to artists such as Lars Huismann, Nico Moreno, Umwelt, D. Carbone, Joe Farr, Takaaki Itoh, Lag & more. Birken shares the release with some of techno's most influential names for the Gombocs first vinyl release. The release will be home to Thomas P. Heckmann, Jerome Hill, Martyn Hare & Paul Birken himself. “Four legendary artists that influenced not only us but probably thousands of people. With their own signature sound, each track resembles a unique style. From Acid, to Rave and just pure machinery communication.” Birken's track, Poaching Pickled Parcels, is a distorted piece of machine paradise. Screaming synths lye at the forefront of the track while a pounding a kick drum does its damage. The track is complete with shuffling analogue percussion that simmers in and out of sections of the track. A true hectic piece of hectic dance music, from the king of mayhem. Everything is a dance at the moment. Government are dancing between vaccine rollout, reopening plans and warnings from immunologists that it's too early, the events and entertainment industry are dancing on the spot and it's safe to say we are all dying for a dance. So we're talking to the man fighting for our right to dance - Sunil Sharpe from Give Us The Night - about the reopening roadmap. What does it mean for ppl trying to roll out events, what will the pilot event look like and will it in fact pilot anything, and maybe most importantly, what does the future hold for clubs and dancing in Ireland going into the future? Plus, the Texan abortion ban, land speculation on co-living plans and why can't ministers manage to figure out how to free up space on their phones without deleting govt business from their phones and what FOI really means?
