When mutual friends in the diabetes community kept telling Rob he had a doppelganger in LA, he figured they were exaggerating. Then he met Dylan Leonard — creative director, documentary filmmaker, college basketball player, type one diabetic, philosophy reader, world traveler — and yeah, the comparisons held up pretty well. Dylan was diagnosed at 15, having dropped 45 pounds before anyone realized something was wrong. He went from a hospital bed thinking he'd never eat sugar again to playing college basketball while managing T1D without a CGM, without a pump, and without knowing a single other person with diabetes for his first decade. What carried him through was activity — six hours of workouts a day during basketball season — and a mindset he's been intentionally building ever since through reading, travel, and genuinely hard conversations with himself. This episode goes wide. Rob and Dylan dig into Dylan's upcoming documentary Breaking Limits: Life on the Edge, which follows elite athletes with type one diabetes across seven different sports — from Olympic competitors to IndyCar drivers to American Ninja Warriors. Dylan invested his own money and thousands of hours into this project, not to make a cent, but to hand a 15-year-old sitting in a hospital bed the resource he never had. They also get into the philosophy of travel as the cheapest education on earth, why our brains literally haven't caught up to the abundance of modern life, the difference between manifesting and obsessing, and what a five-hour train conversation with a Norwegian stranger taught Dylan about human connection. Oh, and they're making plans to run a hoop session next time Rob's in LA. Cameras included. Between 1918 and 1921, over a hundred thousand Jews were murdered in Ukraine by peasants, townsmen, and soldiers who blamed the Jews for the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. In hundreds of separate incidents, ordinary people robbed their Jewish neighbors with impunity, burned down their houses, ripped apart their Torah scrolls, sexually assaulted them, and killed them. Largely forgotten today, these pogroms—ethnic riots—dominated headlines and international affairs in their time. Aid workers warned that six million Jews were in danger of complete extermination. Twenty years later, these dire predictions would come true. Jeffrey Veidlinger's new book In the Midst of Civilized Europe: The Pogroms of 1918-1921 and the Onset of the Holocaust draws upon long-neglected archival materials, including thousands of newly discovered witness testimonies, trial records, and official orders, showing for the first time how this wave of genocidal violence created the conditions for the Holocaust. This week on American Grit, Dale Partridge delivers a bold, biblical defense of Christian colonization and shows how it built the strongest, freest, and most prosperous nation in history. He dismantles the “stolen land” myth, explains why colonization is the natural outworking of the Great Commission, and makes the case that you cannot love America while hating the Christian civilization that created it. In the Weekly Audit, we discuss why pleading insanity is a judicial disaster, why women rulers are a plague on America's political system, and why homophobia is not a sin. Join Lisa & Matt as we sit down with Paul, a former clinical psychologist whose life took a shocking turn from running a thriving private practice to serving time in federal prison for healthcare fraud. Get your copy of Paul's book 'Cruel and Unusual Punishment: A Memoir of the Psychological Realities of Federal Prison' here: https://amzn.to/3QHVs4c Paul shares how he built a successful psychology practice between 2007 and 2011 before everything unraveled, leading to his conviction and incarceration. Drawing from his powerful book, he explores the concept of “savage vs. civilized,” revealing how quickly societal norms can break down when survival instincts take over. We dive deep into his firsthand experiences navigating the federal prison system—from solitary confinement and unexpected transfers to the harsh realities inmates faced during COVID-19. Paul opens up about the unspoken rules of prison life, including how dominance and intimidation shape daily interactions and determine survival. In one striking story, Paul recounts a childhood moment on a farm where he learned the hard way asserting dominance can mean the difference between vulnerability and control. He shares how, despite initially trying to avoid conflict, he was forced to adapt quickly in situations that challenged his place within the prison hierarchy. This episode also explores bigger-picture conversations around criminal justice reform, questioning whether the system prioritizes punishment over rehabilitation. We discuss the urgent need for meaningful work, education, and reentry programs that can help break cycles of crime and give individuals a real second chance. If you're into true crime podcasts, white-collar crime stories, prison survival insights, and deep psychological perspectives, this episode offers a rare, inside look you won't hear anywhere else. *Please note all opinions in the show are our own and solely in regards to the specific case we are discussing in this episode* We made a one stop shop for all the Eye for an Eye links our listeners might want to check out whether its where to listen, our merch shop, all of our socials, our email, or ways to support the show, we'd love for you to visit the link below! https://msha.ke/eyeforeyepod/ Tired of Ads? This has been a rough winter for the world, but especially in for one of Downtown Carlisle's newer business owners. Earlier this year, Civil Eyes'd Optical's building caught fire and is in the process of repairs and being able to open back up. So the DTSB gang of Phil George, Cassie Fourlas, and Cody Myers sat down with Michelle Delp to talk about her journey to get where she is today and how she's weathering the storm. There's a lot of good discussions about how it feels to not be grounded by the stability of a place to go and how she's navigated it by offering to take her work on the road right to the client's house! There's so much good stuff in here and all I know is that we all need to go to Boscov's after this! Welcome back to The Chris Abraham Show. This episode collects Sessions 27 28 and 29 of our Dungeons and Dragons campaign The Curse of Strahd and turns them into one continuous descent into Castle Ravenloft. If you are not a D and D person, here is the simple setup. Our small band of adventurers is trapped in Barovia, a mist locked valley ruled by Strahd von Zarovich, an ancient vampire lord with the patience of a spider and the manners of a king. We have been trying to protect Ireena Kolyana from him, recover the Amulet of Ravenkind, and stay alive long enough to do something that matters. Recently we failed to retrieve that amulet in Vallaki, lied to Ireena's brother Ismark to keep him from charging into a suicide mission, and then finally had to admit the truth. Ireena was taken by Strahd. So when the invitation arrives, we accept it. Dinner at Ravenloft. Polite. Civilized. Completely insane. On the road, Barovia reminds us that travel is never just travel. Revenants on a skeletal horse ambush the party and an ogre zombie joins the slaughter. Ismark is dropped in the chaos and only survives because Urihorn rides in on his mountain lion and drags him back from the edge. The undead die laughing with a promise that they will meet us again. Then the castle welcomes us. An unmanned coach. A swaying drawbridge over a gorge. Doors opening by themselves. Rahadin, Strahd's chamberlain, arriving with a choir of invisible screams. A banquet hall glittering with chandeliers and a feast laid out like a joke.Strahd plays the gracious host and then reveals the knife. Ireena enters. So does Yeska, a young altar boy we once tried to keep safe. Both are vampires now. And Ireena is wearing the Amulet of Ravenkind, the holy artifact we lost and desperately needed. The room goes cold in the way only a story can go cold when you realize the villain has been moving pieces you did not even know were on the board. From there, we start exploring Ravenloft and the castle starts teaching us its rules. Vampire spawn watch from the walls. A ruined chapel dares us to touch what should not be touched. Secret passages lead to trapped rooms. A captive accountant named Lief sits chained to a desk keeping Strahd's books like bureaucracy is also immortal. A maid begs to be rescued. A centuries old portrait shows Ireena as if she has always been here. And then the traps get personal. A coffer releases a green gas that drops party members without a fair fight. An animated suit of red armor hunts like a machine and kills Ismark. When we wake later, the castle has rearranged the scene. Bodies are missing. The fire relights itself. Evidence disappears. A bell summons spiders. Burning webs threatens to burn the whole structure down. A tub of blood erupts with a screaming figure and then the blood is gone like it never existed. Finally, a dusty dining room offers one last bait. A wedding cake explodes. And Strahd arrives not as a man in a cape, but as a pressure in the air, an invisible silhouette reaching for us.This is the Ravenloft arc where hospitality becomes horror, where grief becomes motion, and where the castle itself feels like the weapon.Cast and charactersChris as Radley human Eldritch KnightSean D as Urihorn Tenpenny halfling Beastmaster with a mountain lionCary as Perlan Goodshadow halfling MonkTrip as Daermon Cobain elf Arcane TricksterDM Sean SIf you enjoy gothic horror fantasy, actual play storytelling, and campaigns that refuse to let anyone feel comfortable, you are in the right place.

Here we are again, gathered for our annual White Elephant episode of Fear and Loathing in Cinema Podcast, a tradition in which Bryan, Dan, Preston, and Chelsea select a movie and secretly foist it upon another unsuspecting co-host. Historically, this exercise has had a fifty–fifty chance of devolving into chaos of a nude and possibly indictable nature. But 2025, like so many strange years before it, surprised us. We went classy. Civilized, even. This development was especially alarming given that it runs directly counter to Bryan's personal brand. The post White Elephant 2025 first appeared on Boomstick Comics.

Why protecting even offensive words is the only way to prevent violenceBy Chris Abraham for SubstackEvery generation rediscovers an old lesson the hard way: words are not bullets, but if you confuse them long enough, bullets eventually appear.Lately I've been struck by how quickly our civic conversations move from irritation to punishment. A clumsy remark or ugly slogan goes viral; the mob mobilizes; firings and cancellations follow. It's tempting to say “well, that's accountability,” but the speed and severity of these reactions tell a different story. What we are really doing is rehearsing a very old drama: escalation without a ceiling.Think about Sarajevo, 1914. A teenager named Gavrilo Princip fires a pistol at Archduke Franz Ferdinand. One act of political violence sets off treaties, obligations, and mobilizations. Within weeks, a continent is on fire. The war that followed didn't solve the problem — the punitive Treaty of Versailles created conditions for something even worse. What began as one shot became decades of blood. In our own time, the weapons are reputations, jobs, and platforms. The principle is the same. A careless post spirals into professional ruin. A mob decision substitutes for law. The difference between a town that argues and a town that shoots isn't etiquette — it's survival. Civilized societies invest in procedures: courts, ballots, deliberation. Mobs invest in immediacy. And immediacy always tempts violence.I am not blind to the harm of speech. Racist, vile, or threatening words sting. But the constitutional line exists for a reason. U.S. law is clear: speech only loses protection if it incites imminent lawless action. Everything else, however ugly, is permitted. That boundary protects not just bigots but everyone who dissents from the reigning consensus. Without it, majorities punish minorities on impulse.Cancel culture, whatever name you prefer, is efficient at punishment but poor at persuasion. It does not change minds; it exiles people. It does not reduce resentment; it deepens it. Every mob firing creates martyrs. Every public shaming fertilizes resentment. And resentment, history shows, is a renewable fuel for conflict.Even in theology, escalation is a central theme. The Gospel's “go, and sin no more” joins mercy with responsibility. Mercy without limits collapses into indulgence. Punishment without procedure collapses into vengeance. Both errors invite cycles that consume communities.Revolutions prove this. Marx promised liberation through rupture. Mao promised purification through violence. Che romanticized guerrilla struggle. What followed was not paradise but repression breeding new radicals, one cycle after another. The dueling codes of earlier centuries made the same point: treat words as violence, and violence answers back.We flatter ourselves that the modern age is different because our weapons are digital. But doxxing, mass reporting, and professional exile are simply new swords. The old instinct is unchanged. There is also a dangerous illusion that pauses equal peace. Versailles looked like peace; it was only a ceasefire. Contemporary ceasefires often work the same way: an interval to rearm. Punishment without reconciliation buys time, not resolution. So what should we do? Protect the square. Keep the civic forum open even to speech you despise. Reserve punishments for true threats, not for dissent. Train institutions to resist the adrenaline of the mob. Encourage citizens to answer ugliness with argument, not annihilation. This isn't naivety. It's strategy. If you want fewer bullets, you must tolerate more words. Ugly words, even dangerous-sounding words, are less corrosive than the torches we light to silence them.History has already taught us what happens when we confuse offense with violence and treat every slight as existential. Once the crowd is chanting and the torches are lit, the path back down the ladder is hard to find.

In this episode, Peter Von Panda delves into a fascinating Hollywood trope: the idea that soldiers returning from tough conditions abroad struggle to adjust to the comforts of civilian life, particularly soft beds. Is this just a cinematic exaggeration, or is there some truth to it? Peter shares his own experience with camping, roughing it in nature, and the reality of returning to basic comforts. Join him as he explores this phenomenon and asks listeners for their insights. Could this be more than a trope? Tune in to find out! This week, in episode 216, Shawn Busse and Jay Goltz talk about the trendy job interview strategy of trying to get beyond canned responses by asking candidates unexpected questions along the lines of, “If you were a superhero, what powers would you have and why?” Or, “What animal best represents you as a person?” Not surprisingly, Jay isn't a big fan of those questions, and he offers an alternative strategy that features four questions of his own design. Shawn does like to ask unexpected questions, but specifically those that help him figure out whether a candidate is likely to work well with others. Plus: Shawn talks about what it was like attending the recent going-out-of-business sale of a company he had declined to take on as a client three separate times. Also, Shawn and Jay respond to a Reddit post, where a business owner asks what he can do about a large commercial client who simply refuses to pay a $40,000 bill. “Did I just learn a $40,000 lesson?” the devastated owner asks. “What now?”
