Monrella – Shank (Tensal Remix 2) Digital Only Release date: 15/03/2024 Formats: 12'' Vinyl & Digital Birmingham Techno paragon Monrella (Mick Harris) doesn't mess about, returning to Trauma Collective with 'Shank', a no-nonsense cut of heads down 909 techno. His analog production strikes a fine balance between solid groove and industrial rumble as the characteristically dry precussion crunches around a relentless synth stab. Alongside Regis and Surgeon, Harris was an architect of the dark Birmingham sound that blossomed out of club night House of God. He played a key role in the genesis of grindcore in the late 80s as the former drummer of Napalm Death and went on to translate his taste for raw, analog distortion into rugged 4x4 club tools with productions for Regis' ZET label in the mid 90s as Monrella. Several alias projects followed, the broken techno explorations of Fret, beatless dark ambient with Lull and the dub inflected trip-hop / illbient of Scorn. 'Shank' is remixed on the flip by the Berlin-based Force Reaction, a collaborative project from Kwartz and Kaiser, two purveyors of a particularly muscular strain of techno igniting dances across Europe. They last released together on Kaiser's K S R imprint back in 2021 but this is Kwartz's second outing on Trauma Collective after a link up with Monrella on TRM003. Their version introduces reverb and echo to the mix while firmly retaining dancefloor utlity. Rounding up the B-side is a polyrhythmic and densley textured remix from Héctor Sandoval as Tensal. Sandoval is one half of pioneering Spanish techno duo Exium, and he also contributed to ZET back in 2001. Tensal doubles up on this release, dispatching a second remix in the form of a peak-time thumper available as a digital only bonus track.

Kerrie started a label called Dark Machine Funk, a name which hints toward the kind of music she plays. And while the Irish artist might be a capital-T techno DJ, her idea of "dark" is a little different than the black-clad legions of her generation. You won't find whiplash-inducing BPMs or racy pop edits in her sets. Her idea of techno is more classicist, without veering towards the stuffy or the retro. Her DJIng and her productions bridge the divide between Euro and American styles. Hints of breakbeat or other broken patterns bring in ideas from the UK techno that she loves so much, such as the pivotal label Blueprint, where she's become a regular as of late. With her, the devil's in the details (listen to those deliciously twisted hi-hats in recent track "Transient Belief"), and that comes down to mixing records, too. Her RA Podcast is a fast but measured run-through of 90 minutes of techno by artists like Exium and Tensal and from labels such as Token and Soma. Though none of her own tunes make the tracklist, this mix perfectly captures Kerrie's style. TECHNO After a loooooong break in this series, I am very pleased to restart it again with ona:v | Dj, producer, and promoter from Poland based in Edinburgh. I discovered Vera through her radio shows and podcasts always containing little gems. So I'm glad today that she participates in the reopening of this podcast with a techno set containing tracks of Norbak, Tensal, Translate, CJ Bolland, James Ruskin and many more. Enjoy! Founder of the female and non-binary collective EPiKA, she curates a bi-monthly party called CiRCLE, where she books female and non-binary names from the harder side of techno and electro. In 2021/22, she streamed from Berlin's HÖR Radio. In addition to her residency and internal work at Sisu, she garners three radio residencies on Fnoob, EHFM and Threads. Jay began DJing at ripe age of 16 and by 18 he was asked to be resident at Disco Nouveau, a long running underground club night in his hometown of Mullingar. Fast forward a couple of years and he was invited to be resident at Twelfth Planet until he decided to begin his own journey as an independent promoter. With a career spanning well over a deacde Jay has graced some of Irelands most iconic venues such as; Tripod, The Tivoli Theatre, The Twisted Pepper and more. The Twisted Pepper (now Wigwam) has been home to many of Jay's show's and provided cathartic techno experiences for many punters. Since 2013 Mutate Events has been focused on bringing quality techno to Dublin with such artists as; Jeroen Search, Roman Lindau, Lewis Fautzi, Stefan Vincent, Abstract Division, Tensal, Abdulla Rashim, Tripeo, Mama Snake, Volvox, Amotik, Jamaica Suk, Rune Bagge, Héctor Oaks, Silent Servant, UVB, Charlton, RIVET along with many, many more. From the dangerous part of the city of Montevideo, Uruguay in the late ’90s, William started his journey in music at the early age of 11 helping programming music and DJing for a pirate radio station. Since that moment, he never stopped to define his own style and taste of music while improving his technical skills. In 2009 he started to release his own productions under different monikers, releasing several works in digital and physical format. In 2017 things changed when the decision was made to focus exclusively on his new project called William Arist and also the launch of his own record label Perseverancia Records. Since then, he has played with artists such as Anastasia Kristensen, CTRLS, Adriana Lopez, Aleja Sanchez, Dax J, DVS1, Eduardo De La Calle, Ellen Allien, Kolpos, Mekas, Pfirter, P.E.A.R.L., Setaoc Mass, Vinicius Honorio and many more. His eclectic productions have seen his music land on a variety of labels such as Animal Farm (UK), DEAD CERT. Records (UK), Tauten (SRB), Abstraction (CUB), Liberta (UK), Knowledge Imprint (ZA) amongst others. Nørbak is Artur, born is the late nineties, in the North of Portugal. His devotion into making music begins early in his life, and since then, keeps working in his studio, day after day, discovering and developing his own sound, diving into ambient and experimental techno. In 2016 releases in labels such as ‘Illegal Alien Records' and ‘Circular Limited', reaching the point in 2017 where he sees his recognition going further and releasing on labels such as Affin, Faut Section and Granulart Recordings for the first time, his debut in the famous Tresor Berlin club was also a huge highlight for him in 2017. Feeling supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene like Oscar Mulero, Dasha Rush, and Tensal, his future can only be brighter than what it is right now, with so many boundaries to achieve, discover, learn and cross.
