Active since early 2023, he is known for his energetic live performances and his unique style of psychological electronic music. His music is brimming with playful melodies and otherworldly acid basslines over frenetic and often aggressive beats that defy the listener to figure out its genre. 'A Break From The Psychic Torment' encapsulates a lot about our collaborative, and somewhat contradictory, approach to making dance music together - it's wonky sound design meets joyous hooks and grooves. Basically, we take the fun seriously, because creating art designed for cathartic release in such challenging times requires commitment to joy. Both 'Ooh Sorbet' and 'Prego' are designed for dark rooms and late nights, but began life in the bucolic woods behind Zo's then-home in upstate New York, with us both rooting through the undergrowth and recording the sounds of stick hitting rock, or twig thwacking bottle, all of which became the percussive building blocks behind the tracks. Again, this was definitely a fun process - but more importantly, it gave these tracks a unique sonic identity. 'Sorbet' works around an almost Todd Edwards style cut-up of a vocal, while 'Prego' builds to a breakdown made from another field recording, this time from a park in Beijing. 'Panda Beef' and 'Let's Giggle' were both languishing on Zo's hard drive, clearly sick ideas but just not quite gelling into cohesive tracks. Between marathon bouts of 'Alone' and essential trips to the bakery in Woodstock for almond croissants, we reworked and fashioned them into something much closer to finished products. Mexican vocalist Sirius Soundz sent over some raw vocals, which we chopped up over the slightly Dembow-feeling beat of 'Panda'; an extra layer of Dance Mania-style bleeps brought out the cheeky wink lurking above the bassline of 'Giggle'; and a final session back in Binga's studio in Bristol locked everything in place. And finally, the dog in the artwork is the ultimate Executive Producer behind the whole project, Sadie, who is a very good dog indeed.

STITCH has been making a name for himself within the Irish and UK dance scenes respectively in recent times. Playing a host of shows around the country as well as earning his first international gig in Bristol last year. Not to mention a residency on Subtle Radio which takes place every 2nd Friday monthly, along with a number of releases on Southpoint, Diamond Hand Records, Choki Biki and more where he has broadcast a plethora of bass-infused, club-focused cuts. In addition to his work in the studio, STITCH has built a reputation for his energetic DJ sets combined with his seamless mixing, having captivated audiences at renowned venues and underground parties garnering support slots for MJ Cole with AMPM, alongside upcoming support slots for High Fidelity with Incognito & Miley Serious with Equinox. The DOLLHAUS founder has provided us with a highly energetic recording which captivates her distinct approach to techno. Taurean's work with Dollhaus has shown that she is a fierce advocate for supporting FLINTA DJs and producers. She has done so by providing them with a platform to express themselves and provide a space for a vast amount of artists to flourish since the inception of Dollhaus. This This mix is a fantastic display of Taurean's vast discography, as she toggles between a range of driving and emotive cuts throughout. This week's Local Selection comes from Brazilian-born Ortega, who delivers an hours live set of stripped-back, powerful house. The mix weaves in and out of syncopated synth lines, swirling acid, and Drexcyian electro euphoria. Ortega, also known as Boomtz Boom, is a DJ and electronic music producer from Taboão da Serra, Brazil. His journey into dance music began at the age of nine in 1993, eventually leading him to pursue DJing in 2006. By 2012, Ortega had made his mark on São Paulo's club scene and became a key member of the Smile Collective, where he immersed himself in the city's vibrant club culture. In 2016, he shifted focus to production, blending elements of electro, house, techno, and acid with latin, jazz, funk, and disco influences. Ortega has played at several notable festivals and venues, including Electric Picnic, Tengu, Wigwam, Fidelity, and Skol Beats Factory, sharing the stage with many of his musical idols. His production highlights include the 2017 album Diggin' For Beats Batuque with Beat Maker Rasec, and three EPs released between 2021 and 2023, including Tropic Lines, a collaboration with Bunny Kawaii. In 2024, Ortega was invited by Kawaii to run the label Canario Records. Under his Boomtz Boom alias, he has also released a series of singles on his Bandcamp. Ortega's live set is steeped in deep, rolling basslines and intricate percussive grooves, as he expertly navigates the journey through hypnotic, atmospheric breakdowns and nuanced, minimalistic power. The hour mix showcases a producer and performer who has earned his stripes, shifting through various moods and crafting a seamless journey where it was hard to tell where one track began and the next ended. Our latest entry to the Four Four Local Selection welcomes Aran Mannion (MANNIO) to the series. The 22-year-old DJ and producer from Galway has provided us with an hour long recording for the 255th edition, tipping his hat to his Irish roots as well as traversing through elements of techno and trance throughout. Coming from a singer-songwriter background initially, MANNIO is well versed in the realm of live music and instruments as he has experience in playing the guitar and piano, which has stood to him in discovering his distinct style in an electronic sense. Allowing him to switch between genres and view DJing through a lens that has less focus on barriers with certain sounds. MANNIO has also co-founded the Galway-based club night Tús (Irish for beginning) Collective just over a year ago alongside the parties other co-founder Dylan Buckley. During this time they have ran a host of parties across Galway in Cellar, DNA, Cuba and Electric. They've joined forces with Dublin-based party Instinct on multiple occasions strengthening the link between Dublin and Galway dance music collectives while also welcoming acts like DATSKO and Tara Casey to their parties. Not to mention numerous other local artists in the process. With his first release planned to release in early 2025, it will be interesting to see where MANNIO's musical journey takes him. He manages to keep the energy high and driving, which can easily imitate the atmosphere of a packed, dimly lit basement. Daniel has also recently started his journey as a music producer in recent times and has quickly managed to release two respectable singles in ‘Worked' and ‘Northside' more recently.
