Derry's Connor Young digs deep into the darker end of techno for Local Selection 314, drawing on years spent chasing the sound across dancefloors. Rooted in the darker side of electronic music and shaped by years spent immersed in dimly lit rooms and packed dancefloors, Connor Young's sound is driven by a deep connection to club culture and the energy of the dancefloor. His sonic palette is eclectic, moving across house, electro, breaks and beyond, but deep, trudging and hypnotic techno is where his heart lies. For Connor, it is more than a sound. Sharpson returns with a Trance infused Speed Garage banger: Taste. The Irish-born, London based producer has drawn inspiration from classic trance acts such as Tiesto, Chicane and Underworld and brought it to the contemporary landscape of modern dance music with a high tempo Speed Garage bassline. Moving away from his usual Jungle and Breakbeat influences, Taste harkens back to his formative years as a Trance-lover growing up in Dublin City. The arpeggiated melodies and repetitive vocals sit this track would nicely fit in with the early 00's Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher compilation albums which formulated the producer's love for electronic music growing up. This week's entry to the Local Selection is a long-overdue mix from Stephen Keddy, a staunch supporter of Irish electronic music. Keddy has consistently championed Irish producers, often putting together mixes made entirely of Irish material, and this set is another strong example of that commitment. A veteran of the Irish club scene, Keddy began DJing in the late 1990s, holding residencies at venues such as the legendary Funnel Club and what is now Centrepoint. Alongside his club work, he has also contributed to short film soundtracks, blending experimental electronic textures with more dancefloor-focused production. In the mid-2000s, he hosted Squiggles MindFunk Inc from Michigan, focusing on early dubstep and forward-thinking bass music. After a period away from music, he returned during lockdown with live streams and the weekly K0rOna Sessions on Wicked 107.2, showcasing new dancefloor releases with a strong emphasis on Irish artists. Initially rooted in Sligo before making the move to Manchester in 2022 to pursue music, he has had some glaring success in that time as an artist and promoter of Lace. From spinning in a wealth of Manchester's venues such as The White Hotel, Hidden, Stage & Radio, DBA and The Progress Centre, as well as picking up gigs in Leeds and Liverpool. Nestor has also had the opportunity to throw parties in the city alongside his partner Adam Hunter, and in doing so has welcomed a wealth of formidable artists to their party. Some of which include Bas Mooy, Peder Mannerfelt, Anabel Arroyo, Kerrie, Sunil Sharpe and many more artists over the last number of years. In doing so, they have acted as a beacon to platform Irish talent. Showcasing genuine effort to platform talented Irish artists and fostering collaboration among two of Ireland's most reputable parties, Encrypted and Hidden Love, further strengthening the links between Irish and UK-based parties. As a DJ and producer, Nestor demonstrates his versatility often, playing a broad spectrum of genres across his sets, ranging from high-energy, gritty techno to feel-good house, alongside some of the biggest names in the underground scene. In 2024, Nestor released his debut EP titled ‘Movement', which featured on RTE Pulse, SWU.FM and Crop Radio. In addition, Nestor also performs under his Paragon alias alongside long-time collaborator Louie. More recently, Nestor progressed significantly with the release of his debut album ‘The Ramblings of a Sligo Man which explores field recordings, electro-acoustic composition and experimental sound design, followed by his second album Digital Methods', as well as multiple releases on various labels and an appearance on the iconic Rinse FM. This recording is a fine display of the range in taste that Nestor possesses. The mix allows the listener to experience Nestor's progression over the course of the hour. This week's entry to the Local Selection Mix comes from OneCanChan, who delivers an hour of chugging, Italo-kissed, acid-drenched jackin' house, an invitation into their expansive, dancefloor-driven world. A Dublin-based DJ with Chinese roots, OneCanChan's musical aesthetic is shaped by years spent working in record stores, digging deep across prog house, acid, breaks, and global sounds. They also co-run Shimmer Dublin, an open DJ and arts collective fostering community and creativity in the city. They've performed alongside some of Ireland's most respected collectives, including Foxgluv, HONEYPOT, and Club Comfort, and their mixes have reached both local and international airwaves. Appearances include Dublin Digital Radio, Refuge Radio Berlin, and The Cosmic Cast in Naarm. Recent highlights see them opening the White Claw stage at Electric Picnic, supporting Kapote and Cody Currie for Toy Tonics' first Dublin jam, and sharing bills with Moving Still and Coy Haste (Caribou). Their Local Selection contribution stays true to this all-encompassing approach, expertly sewing together slippery acid cuts, deep and lurching prog-leaning grooves, and dusky Italo-disco rhythms. Our latest Local Selection welcomes Irish-born, UK-based DJ, live-act and producer Adam Kelly, aka POSER. For this instalment, he delivers just under an hour of carefully shaped selections that are warm, fluid and effortlessly controlled. POSER is the electronic music moniker of Irish producer and DJ Adam Kelly, who has quickly emerged as one of the most promising names across the UK and Irish electronic scenes in recent years. Drawing influence from disco, hip-hop, house and modern club sounds, his output balances groove-led energy with an emotive edge. After cutting his teeth in Dublin's dance music community, Adam discovered a deeper passion for production during lockdown. His debut single, ‘Je T'aime', landed in June 2022 and picked up early support from BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Jaguar. Since then, a steady run of releases has seen him surpass one million streams on Spotify. Now based in London, POSER has immersed himself in the city's diverse electronic landscape, a move that continues to shape and refine his evolving sound while preserving his distinct musical identity. His momentum has been reinforced through his selection for the Roundhouse Resident Artist Programme and AVA Festival's Creators Forum, both of which played a key role in developing his live show. He has since performed live at Roundhouse, The Great Escape Festival and Culture Night Dublin. On the DJ front, he has secured notable support slots for Oden & Fatzo at Index, O'Flynn at The Racket Space and 49th and Main at The Bernard Shaw. HAVEN are back with their vinyl operation with a fresh plate of grubby Techno heat from Irish heavyweights Faetch & Sunil Sharpe on the Grotteca EP. Featuring 4 original rippers and a remix from Italian legend DJ Plant Texture of upfront club pressure, the NZ-based label are proud to transmit some of the finest in creeping electronics from across the globe. The A-side kicks off with ‘Bleed In' with its tough drum-work and hypnotising atmospheres eventually descending in to an all-out stomp with one of the filthiest synth-lines in the label's history hitting half-way through. This is followed up with ‘Test Breaks' - a broken-beat slammer with a ton of gritty synth design and rear-shaking rhythms. The first side is closed with DJ Plant Texture's remix of ‘Bleed In', where driving 909 hits combine with the original synth line for a club-ready weapon ready to get those feet moving. On the B-side ‘Vapornation' keeps the energy rolling with its rolling congas, heavy kick, and eerie atmospheres tailor-made for a concrete basement. This week's contribution showcases one of Ireland's longest-serving DJs, as we host Dublin-based DJ Aoife Nic Canna to the series. Lock in for the next hour as she exhibits her slick selections and effortless technique throughout. For our latest iteration of the Local Selection, we welcome a legendary Irish vinyl DJ, Aoife Nic Canna to the series. Her contribution acts as the 292nd edition, where she sifts through her library, sharing various old school deep cuts in house and adjacent genres. A range of soft, elegant and warm selections can be heard over the course of the recording. Ideal listening for this glum Wednesday. Aoife has established a significant legacy during her 30+ years as a DJ. Acting as a central force in the Irish dance music scene since its first moves in the early 1990's. She was a founding member of the seminal Horny Organ Tribe. Dubbed the 'first lady of Irish house', she earned regular appearances at culture-defining nights and institutions like Cork's Mór Disco, Dublin's Temple of Sound, and Manchester's Hacienda. Continuing to hold several residencies across Ireland over her expansive career, she has, since Covid lifted, returned to playing regularly across Ireland. Some notable venues include Connollys of Leap, Opium, Hen's Teeth, Izakaya, The Bernard Shaw and Pawn Shop. Some other accolades include support for Inner City, spinning at Ealú le Grá and Paradise Lost in Ibiza, Carl Cox for District 8 and perhaps the biggest of all, supporting Soft Cell and OMD at St. Anne's Park to an audience of 20,000 people. Introducing the first Local Selection of 2026, and the 290th edition of the series is Belfast-based DJ Keeva G, who has kindly contributed an hour of power which showcases her affinity for the harsher, mind-boggling edges of techno. A statement mix right from the off. No playing around here. Keeva G has steadily carved her place within the Irish techno scene over the last few years as a compelling, sought-after DJ. Recognised for her diverse sets that incorporate hypnotic soundscapes with raw, driving techno. Her love for the genre's foundations is unmistakable, with selections often nodding to old-school selections, drawing inspiration from the gritty, machine-driven sounds that defined techno's deep history. With a background shaped by years immersed in the dance music scenes of Amsterdam, London, and New York, Keeva has harnessed this time spent across a wide range of dancefloors and channelled her specific sound that is a staple in her sets, which is both dynamic and uncompromising.
